The trees have eyes, but they didn't see. Neither did Maisie.
It's been six months, and Maisie isn't any closer to finding her sisters' killer.
When she joined the coven three years ago under the tutelage of Daphne, Maisie didn't think it would mean her life. Her magic and an onslaught of danger from both inside and outside the coven has left her unable to function.
The danger isn't over, even if others are able to move on. Her coven wants to be back at thirteen witches, and when covens start getting slaughtered, they must be at thirteen witches. Maisie fears her coven will be next.
As much as she wants to help, she doesn't trust her magic over the last earthquaking disaster or her sisters who let the murderer in.
Read the thrilling conclusion to the Coven Thirteen duology.
Sophia-Rose Johnson, who has already written under the pen name S. Johnson, is from Minnesota, USA, and she is a northerner by heart and accent. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Superior in 2018 with a writing degree, and she argues about commas constantly. While she first published in 2022, she’s been writing since 2011. When not working at her day or night job, she enjoys reading, hanging out with family and friends, playing with her dogs, making sarcastic comments, being a fake blond, chugging energy drinks, and wearing high heels as a tall woman.
I read this right after reading the first coven 13 book. I absolutely loved the duo. Magic, sisterhood, injustice, what more could you want. The thing I did not love, was at the end of the book. This wasn't a HEA, which is okay. But I just felt it wasn't completely finished. Like if everyone dies (they don't) then what happens next? I felt it needed a little bit more detail beyond who survives. You don't get all the answers. Or I just had more questions. Otherwise, I don't see any flaws, this book is a great read. You fall deeper into Maisie's spell in this book. The tension and suspense keeps you on edge. The bonds between the sisters seem to deepen and the connections grow. I would have loved for this to be a series, to continue the coven's story.
This continuation of The Favorite Kind of Wild Magic definitely dives deeper into the connections between the members of the coven. It’s interesting to see the relationships evolve from the first and throughout this one as well. It has you rooting for them the whole time! I enjoyed the involvement of Sophia’s other characters from her Castle of Skulls series, I love when authors do that!
