Can Cade get his second chance? He had made plenty of mistakes in his life, many involving Dani. The biggest being breaking up with her while grieving his mother’s death.

Their story is a journey of healing and realizing what they had lost. She has returned to town and needs his help with training her horse. With this comes a little drama, but it is all part of healing. The family makes for some fun side stories.

A new to me author, and I am excited to read more of this series.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

"I have been handed a second chance, and if you let me, I'll do everything I can to show you I'm a man worth loving again."
"You trying to make me cry in front of people, CT?"
"I'm trying to never make you cry again."

Second chance romances are a favorite and I have to say I think CT (Cade) is one of the hardest working MMCs when it comes to winning Dani's heart back. It has been six years since he crushed both of their hearts and while he never thought he would get a second chance with her when the opportunity presents itself...he is all in to win her heart back.

Dani is skeptical of CT at first. She trusted him with her heart and soul once before and doesn't know if she can again. She tries to hold out and stay strong but her heart wants what it wants and that is Cade. As they spend more and more time together at his ranch it becomes inevitable that she cannot resist him. She still has a lingering fear and soon that fear starts to become a reality.

Cade loves Dani with all he has but there is still tragedy from his past that he has not gotten over and it soon surfaces forcing him to take a deep long look at himself and figure out who he wants to be. I love how the author has this issue just slightly below the surface throughout the book until it comes to light. Yes, I wanted to shake him and tell him to wake the heck up but what the author did had to happen in order for the ending that she gives readers. She gives readers amble examples of how far Cade will go to protect Dani (really nothing he wouldn't do for her).

This was my first JS Wood book but I thoroughly enjoyed her writing. She has many side characters in this book that are involved in a good percentage of the story and I loved meeting them and cannot wait for more of them. I am ready to jump into her backlist as quickly as I can while waiting for the next book to release.

ARC Review✨

Cade PINING after Dani to try and win her back after she comes back into his life; realizing that for the past 6 years he’s been missing out on the love of his life? It’s a yes for me!! 😜
Dani and Cade dated for several years until CT’s mom passed away and he broke up with her with no real explanation.. He was definitely dealing with some internal grieving, but now that she’s back in need of his help, he’s realizing that his feelings are still there, and making it known that he wants her back. 🤭
My man CT was very persistent but not in an “annoying” way, ya know what I mean? Probably not.. but oh well 🤣 He even stated he was gonna continue to ask her out until he got a definite NO but she never did say no; until she said yes…
I love the main characters of this book and their development from going to a young couple in love, to strangers for years, back to friends and lovers again.. 🫶🏽🥹 it was something truly special! I feel like the book was very well pasted, and nothing was rushed. Sometimes in my opinion with second chance romances, they will hop back into their relationship and admit their feelings again with no pining or yearning! That was not the case here!! CT worked to win Dani back, and when he did!! Whoaaaa 🥵❤️‍🔥

Did I mention he helps retrain her horse? 🫣😜 andddd gives his niece riding lessons? Swooooonnn 🥰🙃

I started reading this and couldn't stop. Before I knew it, it was 245 AM and I was 60% in. I was able to read through it so quickly because it flowed so well! These two characters were perfect for each other despite their differences. Their relationship has its growing pains and struggles but they were both willing to compromise.

Cade was a man who didn't put up with anything that wasn't good towards the ones he loved and he made true on those promises. Not just other people but himself and what he said he wanted out of life.

Dani had sooo much to give to those around her and she was busting at the seams to do just that. But with her circumstances she wasn't able to fully launch what she wanted to do. But she was willing to make it happen if it meant she had to leave the ones she loved behind.

Cade really was a good guy, but he just didn't deal with trauma well. Most people don't, let's be honest. BUT he let it continue to build until it couldn't anymore. I don't think it should have taken things to happen for him to just abandon the one he loves to be able to deal with things.

I received a complimentary copy via the author. All opinions are my own, honest and voluntary.

Dani knows the time has come for her to see her first and only love. She needs help with her horse and only Cade can help. But all she will allow is help with her horse. No second chances, no allowing Cade in only to break her heart again.

Seeing Dani again has made him realize just how far down he's pushed his feelings for her in the years since he pushed her away. He knows she's not here for him, only for her horse. But he has a second chance staring him the face, and he's not letting her go again. He'll need to do more than work on her horse, though, if he wants Dani to trust he's the man she deserves.

Cade and Dani's second chance is not without its obstacles, but all the pain they went through both in the past and in the present, was worth it when they finally got to their happy ever after. Dani made Cade work for her heart this time around, not giving in easily, and forcing him to finally realize he had to work on his serious issues left over from the death of his mother. I may have wanted to scream at him more than once, especially near the end, when he let those issues hurt Dani (and himself), but I also wanted to give him a big hug. Grief isn't something that's easy to get over, and Cade had not stopped grieving, nor had he even dealt with that grief. Thank God his first love came back into his life and helped him get to the point where he could do something about that grief. Dani is amazing, strong enough to reach out for help from the person who broke her heart, and not crumble. This is a heartfelt second chance love story. I can't wait for more of this series now.

4.5 out of 5 stars

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is the first book of the author's that I've read and I don't mind reading more from them. The book's blurb gives you an idea of what to expect, though be aware the book deals with grief and mentions animal abuse/drugging of animals. It's a good first person dual pov romance about finding love again after heartbreak.

After their break up, Dani continued on her dream of getting her license to practice equine therapy and still competed in showing in reining. When trouble with her horse leaves her no option but to ask Cade, her ex, for help, she's not sure if she can be around him. She never got over him and the pain of their break up is still there. However, she wants to do what is best for her horse and can't resist the mutually beneficial deal that Cade presents her. Being around him scares her to open up her heart to him again but she loves him too much not to give him another chance. What I liked about Dani was that, although she loved Cade, she protected herself and made Cade prove his feelings for her. She didn't make things difficult for him out of spite but for both of them to know that they truly wanted to be together and be there for each other.

Although Cade never stopped loving Dani, his fear overwhelmed him and made him push her away. Since then, he's been a shadow of who he used to be. When he learns that he could help her with her horse, he doesn't hesitate to offer his assistance. He understands Dani's reluctance to be near him and it only makes him regret the decision he made years ago. As they continue working together, he is determined to let her know how sorry he is and that his feelings for her never went away. Being reunited with her also gives him that push that he needed to return to competing in showing. But, although he is happy with being reunited again and having another chance to be together, he can't stop the same fears he had from lingering. While readers may not like how Cade handled things, I could understand his grief and fear taking control. He never properly dealt with those feelings so his actions made sense, even if they weren't always likable for readers. &, once he did get himself together, I liked how active he was in proving to Dani that he wanted a life with her.

Being a second chance romance, this had the perfect amount of angst and longing. You could feel Cade's fears and regrets as well as Dani's hurt and wistfulness. The pacing of the story was done well so that their reconciliation didn't feel too fast, even though it was easy for them to fall back into how they were before. There was spice but not too much to overshadow anything else. Aside from their feelings about reconciling, there was other conflict in the story that was interesting , though I did feel as if it was conveniently resolved. I also liked the competing in showing storyline and not difficult to follow. Apart from the romance, I liked the relationships that they had with their families. Overall, I enjoyed this book and think others will too.

Here's a heart-pounding journey that will take your breath away, even when death tries to steal it!

On the Fence by JS Wood is a contemporary second-chance Western romance that follows the story of CT Trevors and Dani West. CT made the biggest mistake of his life when he walked away from Dani, thinking he was saving her from heartbreak. However, when Dani's cousin reaches out for help with a skittish horse, CT sees an opportunity to make things right and win back Dani's heart. Dani, still hurt from the way CT ended things, is reluctant to accept his help. However, she knows that CT is the only trainer who can get her back in the ring. As they work together, secrets from her past trainer come to light, and old wounds begin to heal. The forced proximity and tension between them reignite old feelings, making it clear that their story is far from over.

The novel is packed with rich details of ranch life and the challenges of horse training, adding depth to the romance. CT's determination to fight for Dani, despite his fears, and Dani's struggle to trust him again create a compelling and emotional journey. The story explores themes of forgiveness, redemption, and the power of love to overcome past mistakes. On the Fence is a swoon-worthy romance that will steal your heart with its rugged cowboy hero and strong, resilient heroine. It's perfect for anyone ready to dive into their cowboy era and experience the highs and lows of a second-chance love story, so get your copy today to find out what happens!

This was the first book in the Three River Trevor Ranch series! This story was super cute and I finished it in one day. Super easy read and the perfect palate cleanser!

Cade and Dani have been dating since they were young teenagers. Cade’s mom passes away after a lengthy fight with cancer. Right before his mom passes away, Cade feels the need to protect himself and despite the love he has for her, he ends their relationship. Fast forward 6 years, Cade is a rancher and small town horse trainer and Dani has moved back to their hometown after being let go from her job. Dani needs help getting her horse ready to show and Cade is the only one who can help her. Dani is focused on maintaining a professional relationship but Cade has other plans.

Cade is surly, closed off, and a shell of his former self since his mom died. He threw himself into maintaining his family’s ranch. Cade also stopped training and showing horses. Cade lacks the ability to communicate and denies there is anything wrong. When the only woman he has ever loved comes back into his life, Cade will stop at nothing to win her back. Cade is persistent, but not aggressive in his pursuit of Dani and is determined to show her that he can change.

Dani is a sweet, small town girl stuck in love with her ex-boyfriend. Dani needs help with her horse and after extensive searching, discovers there is no one but Cade left to help her. Despite Cade’s persistence, Dani is determined to guard herself and her heart.

🌿✨ On the Fence by J.S. Wood is a soul-stirring, deeply emotional romance that lingers long after the last page. This book isn’t just about love—it’s about healing, trust, and the unexpected ways life brings the right person into our path when we need them most.

From the very first chapter, I was hooked. The writing is effortlessly beautiful, drawing you into a world where emotions run deep, and every glance, every unspoken word, carries weight. The slow-burn romance is achingly perfect, filled with stolen moments, hesitant touches, and a connection so profound that you feel every bit of it in your heart.

The characters are flawed, real, and unforgettable. They carry their scars—both seen and unseen—but watching them navigate their fears, open up to each other, and choose love despite the risks? Absolutely breathtaking. The push and pull between them is written so well, and when the walls finally come down? Pure magic.

J.S. Wood has crafted a story that’s not just about romance, but about resilience, self-discovery, and the quiet strength it takes to love when love has hurt before. It’s a book that wraps around you like a warm embrace and leaves you utterly wrecked—in the best way.

💛 If you love slow-burn romance, beautifully raw emotions, and a love story that feels like a whispered promise under the stars, On the Fence is a must-read. It’s tender, heartfelt, and completely unforgettable.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A breathtaking journey of love, healing, and finding home in another person.

I loved this book!

When I started this one I thought I wasn’t going to be able to like Cade. I truly felt like he wasn’t going to be redeemable, but the more I read the more I understood him. Grief makes you do completely irrational things for the sake of self preservation.

Seeing Cade and Dani both go through their own ways of finally processing their grief over losing someone they loved very much & the pain of losing the love of their life (even if that part didn’t have to happen) was so real. They both had a lot of trauma they had to work through individually as well as together. Cade had to work through his fear of losing the people he loved & Dani had to work through not feeling worthy enough that he’d fight for her.

When they weren’t getting sucked into their own trauma responses their relationship was the absolute sweetest, well not only sweet there were also some very warm moments too! 🌶🌶🔥🔥🥵🥵 This book also had so many fun side characters with all the cousins…I can’t wait to see what’s next for Three Rivers Trevors Ranch

Okay, if you’re a fan of second-chance romance, cowboys, and ALL the tension, you’re gonna love this one!🤠

Dani and Cade were once inseparable—until Cade walked away, thinking he was protecting Dani after the loss of his mom💔 Fast forward to years later, and Dani needs Cade’s help to get back into the ring—so they’re forced to spend time together again. Dani insists they’re JUST working together, while Cade is out here trying to win her heart back.

🩵What I loved: the TENSION. I mean, the “I’m trying to resist you but can’t” gets me every time. Dani is such a strong, independent character, and I adored watching her stand her ground even when Cade’s charm was working overtime. Plus, the ranch setting? PERFECTION. Sunsets, wide-open fields, and horses galore—it’s romantic without being too cheesy🌅🐎

😤What frustrated me (but in the best way!): Cade. I mean, ugh. I really wanted to love him, but he made it sooo hard. But honestly, his messy journey was necessary to get to that sweet HEA.

This was my first book by J. S. Wood, and I really enjoyed her writing! It’s emotional, raw, and packs just the right amount of drama and romance🩵 Would I recommend it? Absolutely!

A new-to -me author and overall I had a good time. It says this is the fifth book in a series but I had no issues following along. Thanks to the author for not throwing too many past details in because that’s when I feel confused.

Cade and Dani, Dani and Cade… the couple who everyone assumed would get married and live an idyllic life together. Hmm, well maybe this would have happened if Cade hadn’t flipped out and dumped Dani during a period of grief. 6 years later can they reunite and get a second chance?

Dani was the shining star here. The h who never badmouthed her ex. She seemed strong and resilient, and able to overcome anything because of that. Cade, you pushed my buttons. You had a woman who adores you and you let her go so easily. It’s also for the reason I hate most. The whole “I have to let you go for your own sake” bs. No, don’t make decisions that affect both people. It drives me insane.

The book was also a little long and felt draggy in the middle. Highly entertaining though and I would read this author again.

Thank you to the Author agency and JS Wood for the arc and this is my honest review.

This was such a sweet, adorable and amazing second chance romance that had my heart in a chokehold right from the start and never let it go!

"I have been handed a second chance, and if you let me, I'll do everything I can to show you I'm a man worth loving again.
You trying to make me cry in front of people, CT?
I'm trying to never make you cry again."

Dani and Cade took me on a heartbreaking journey of finding their happy ending. The love that these two share was the kind of love rarely found. They grew up together, shared all of their firsts with each other, went through an incredible heartbreaking tragedy, lost each other and then reconnected once again. There were so many bumps in the road for them but together they were able to conquer those bumps – even if it seemed impossible.

Their banter was filled with so much emotion that I found myself laughing, tearing up and swooning with love. I just could not get enough of these two.

This is my first book by this author, and it will not be my last. I loved the writing, I loved the characters and the emotions that were pouring out of the pages, and I loved the incredible storyline.

When cowboy small town romance meets second change trope. I think the author did a great job showing the angst and characters being afraid to start again and why. The small town community and big family (some also are main character in other books by J.S Wood) were a great touch. But I have to say, I really liked all the thing cowboy here. I know, some people might find it too extensive and therefore boring, but I think it truly adds to the universe authors creates and makes the characters so much more.
And I also appreciate the Kindle Edition graphic design - might be a small thing, but it counts too.

However, I would have like it, if the message was more about it being okay to experience fear and/or anxiety (and seeking help when it becomes too overwhelming) and not okay to shut down and alienate from all your loved, instead it being generally that anxiety is a flaw and you should work on it.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

I’ve officially decided this summer is my cowboy era summer. Since this was my third cowboy book so far in June!

I went into this book not really knowing what it was about but boy, I wasn’t disappointed! Thank you to J.S. Wood for this ARC copy!

We first meet Cade and Dani when they’re both going through something that they don’t know how to handle. Losing a loved one isn’t easy and they both didn’t know how to deal with that and their grief. It is six years later though that they are pushed back into each others lives and how their love for one another never left. Going through their own issues and finding a new path together and how they got there was done beautiful. It wasn’t always easy, a little bit messy, a little bit spicy, but as always, love ends up on top.

I'm in my cowboy/small town romance era for sure, and this was such a lovely read. I'm also a whore for second chance romances.

Cade deals with a devastating loss which ends up scarring him so deep he ends up breaking up with long term girlfriend Dani. After their breakup, Dani continues on her dream of getting her license to practice equine therapy when she ends up needing the help of Cade with her horse. The reunion is quite emotional and I've got to say, I felt it all.

Cade never stopped loving Dani, his fear overwhelmed him and made him push her away. When she comes back to his life asking for her, he jump at the opportunity of having her close and does everything he can to win her trust back.

Personally, I loved so many aspects of the book, but Cade made it really difficult for me to love it truly. His second guessing, his insecurities and his trauma (totally valid) made me want to scream most of the time.

Even though it has been years Dani was devastated when Cade ended their relationship and being around him only make it difficult. That is why she is hesitant for him to help her with her horse, but she does relent as she knows it is the only choice that she can make. She is determined to keep their relationship professional as she would not be able to survive the heartbreak a second time.

Ending his relationship with Dani was a decision that Cade made from desperation and pain. It is the biggest regret of his life, so he is not about to let this opportunity pass by. He is determined to show her that they have always belonged together, but he is also patient and allows her to set the pace.

The love that Dani and Cade have shared has always been there despite the mistakes and missteps along the way. They take us on an emotionally wrenching journey as they not only need to heal from the past but ensure that history does not repeat itself.

Thank you to the author and The Author Agency for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I'm obsessed with cowboy romances, so I was really expecting to love this one. Especially after reading that prologue. Good lord that thing tore my heart out. But I don't know. I'm like 20% in, and I'm just not loving it. You mean to tell me that they've been living in the same small town after she moved back, but he doesn't know anything about her and hasn't at all tried to reach out to her? And he just let everyone think that she was the one who dumped him during his mother's death? I also just didn't love the tip toeing the author did around what kind of sickness his mother had. I'm assuming it's cancer, and that reveal might be a big part of the book later, but this just didn't grab me enough to care enough to get to that part or the part where the MMC starts trying to really win back the FMC.

Thank you to Love N Books and the author for this ARC!

Cade and Dani were childhood sweethearts but when CT lost his mother, he pushed Dani away.

6 years later, Dani needs help training her horse. She’s trying to become an equine therapist, but her horse has had some bad behavior. The only person that can help her is her ex everything.

CT knows he messed up and wants to try to make it right. He agrees to help with Lady and in exchange Dani helps his brother ride again. When Dani opens her heart to Cade again, he has to prove he can show up for her. Although Cade is a bit frustrating at times, you can definitely see how much he loves Dani.

Can these two have their second chance? Definitely check out this small town, second chance romance with a cowboy!

I really enjoyed this book! I LOVED how technical it was to cow horsing, showing, training & ranching. I felt like I learned a lot which was really cool. I adore how strong willed & kind Dani is. She knows what she wants, knows what she’s good at, and how to treat people kindly. CT… I wanted to fight him several time BUT I understood his fears & anxiety. The two of them together are the best little power couple & I loved it. It did feel a little repetitive at moments but all around great. Now I wanna be on a ranch in Colorado.

On The Fence is part of the Three Rivers Trevor's Ranch series. The chemistry between these two MCs was really portrayed in this story! J. S. Wood creates a great book that highlights the rancher/ cowboy lifestyle while also giving that much needed second chance for these two.

Cade has let fear make some poor decisions in his life like pushing away the one girl that he loved, Dani. He soon realized that was the biggest mistake of his life, but a little to late to fix it. Now he hears from her cousin that she is needing help with a rather unruly horse. Dani definitely does not want help, especially from her ex she has been trying to block out of her life. Unfortunately, she is left with little choice, but is determined to stay away from him at all costs.

I love a cowboy, and a groveling cowboy to boot, yee haw!

This was my first read by J.S. Wood and I will definitely be diving into more. I enjoyed the writing style and the relatable and realistic story and characters. Cade sure did make a mess of things with Dani when he walked away, but when she comes back into his life needing help, he doesn't hesitate to step up for his woman.

It was clear through all their struggles and differences that Cade and Dani genuinely loved each other and were meant to be together but he had to fix himself before he could give her what she needed and deserved.

I love a little suspense with my romance so kudos to J.S. wood for giving me what I love with On The Fence.

I really enjoyed this one! Cade and Dani were the love of each other’s lives. Until Cade pushed her away to “protect” himself from losing one more person he loved. After 6 years apart, Dani needs Cade’s help. Feelings that were buried but never went away, surfaced again. Can Cade and Dani overcome the past?

As frustrating as Cade was at times, my heart broke for him. Fighting anxiety over losing a love one is so hard. I loved his protectiveness over Dani. I adored Dani so much! She loved so fiercely, even with a broken heart, she loved Cade.

This was my first book by this author and I’m so excited to see what comes next in this series!

“I was absolutely terrified to lose the love of my life.

So instead of losing her, I pushed her away and made the biggest mistake of my life.”

I got this as an eARC & I am grateful to have been able to peek into the world of Three Rivers Trevor’s Ranch. At times I wanted to reach into my kindle and punch Cade in the face, Dani is so sweet and has been through so much unnecessary BS, but cowboys gonna cowboy & you can’t help but fall in love with this pain in the ass. I love the way J.S. Writes, fast paced but good back story & character development. I can’t wait to see what’s next in the TRT Ranch!

I really enjoyed reading On The Fence by J.S. Wood. This is my first Cowboy Romance, can you believe that?
The FMC Dani is such a sweetheart character, the girl next door, everyone loves her, she is perfect.

The MMC "CT" Cade Trevors is a morally grey cowboy, (with a touch of touch her and find out...) who after loosing his mother has issues with his mental health and fear of loosing Dani to the point that he almost lets it ruin their relationship.

This is a second (or you could argue, 3rd chance) romance, small town, love story with a HEA. If any of these tropes are your vibe I would definitely give this book a try!

C.T. and Dani were childhood and high school sweethearts on their way to forever. C.T. ended things before they could find happy ever after. Now 6 years later, fate throws them together again. Will they get a second chance or stay on the fence?

I really liked this story. The characters had great chemistry and I actually enjoyed learning about the horse stuff that served as a side plot. The family characters added to the story. There was some spice but a lot of it was not very detailed…I would have preferred more spice that was not just alluded to. Overall, it was a solid cowboy-themed romance.

On the Fence
By J.S. Wood

“She needs me? I gotta go.”

This was a sweet second chance, small town, cowboy romance.

Dani has to find a new trainer, because the previous horse trainer was the absolute worst. Dani is told the only person that can help her horse get over her scared issues is to go to CT, her ex.

She sees him for the first time in six years, and can’t get out of the truck. When CT finds out she needs help, he doesn’t hesitate.

CT has loved Dani, but will she forgive him? Will she even let CT work with her horse? CT has to learn to deal with his issues.

At one point I wanted to throw my kindle (the previous horse trainer is literally the worst), and I just hated him.
