The All-inclusive Christ

Rate this book
All of the types and figures found throughout the Old Testament present a wonderful view of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. One of the most significant yet overlooked types is the good land, the land of Canaan. In The All-inclusive Christ Witness Lee expounds portions of Deuteronomy, showing that the land inherited by the children of Israel is a full type of the all-inclusive Christ, who is our New Testament inheritance. He presents a detailed study of some of the unsearchable riches of the good land, including its brooks and streams, its wheat and barley, its figs and vines, and even its iron stones. Each type is explained and applied to our experience as believers. Every believer needs to enter into, abide in, possess, and fight for this all-inclusive Christ. From beginning to end The All-inclusive Christ encourages God's seekers to daily enjoy Christ, experience Christ, and apply Christ as the good land for the fulfillment of God's eternal purpose.

Witness Lee (李常受, pinyin Lǐ Chángshòu) was a Chinese Christian preacher associated with the Local Churches movement and the founder of Living Stream Ministry. He was born in the city of Yantai, Shandong Province, China, in 1905, to a Southern Baptist family. He became a Christian in 1925 after hearing the preaching of Peace Wang and later became a close coworker of Watchman Nee. Witness Lee moved to Taiwan in 1949 as the Communists were advancing in mainland China. During the 1950s, his ministry extended throughout Southeast Asia and in 1962 Lee moved to the United States, relocating the base of his ministry to Southern California. He gave his last public conference in February 1997 at the age of 91. Many of Lee's spoken messages have been published in over 400 books and translated into more than fourteen different languages. Lee's major work is Life-study of the Bible, comprising over 25,000 pages of commentary on every book of the Bible from the perspective of the believers' enjoyment and experience of God's divine life in Christ through the Holy Spirit. Lee was also the chief editor of a new translation of the Bible entitled the Recovery Version.

This book helps us realize our need to enjoy Christ, but also brings us into God’s purpose and His desire for a corporate expression. A must-read, and a very enjoyable one.

The last paragraph does a great job of summing up this book:

“This is what God is seeking today. May we be faithful to Him and learn by His grace how to enjoy Christ, how to experience Christ, and how to apply Christ to our daily lives. Then we will continually grow in our experience and enjoyment of Him, until that time when with the saints we enter the good land, labor upon it, and the temple and the city come into being."

Wow. All-Inclusive Christ. These two words mean so much in the spiritual realm and it just shows how rich our wonderful Christ is (Eph. 3:18)

Many times, I often think that my five senses prove what is real and what is not. If I can see it, touch it, smell it, taste it, or hear it, it must be real. However, all these things when I look around is all but a shadow of what is actually real, Christ (Col. 2:17). I tend to forget this fact many times as I venture around day by day. I think that I need to focus on my studies to get a good job; I need to exercise to stay healthy. All these things appear to be very important in my life. However, I realize the things that I see are just temporary and I need to put on my Christ-glasses (2 Cor. 4:18). As I look around, Christ is the chair that keeps me stable and firm to the ground; He is the bed on which I can rest, and so forth. Because, truth be told, Christ is the reality of every positive thing in the universe.

On the other hand, the All-Inclusive Christ by Witness Lee does not only endeavor in our realization that Christ is the reality of everything positive, but also challenges the reader to press on and continue on in my Christian life to a much deeper and richer Christ that is set before me to enjoy. As I continue to enjoy Christ day by day, He will become many things to me. In the beginning, He was just my Redeemer and the manna to feed us day by day. However, I realized that this is not sufficient. I need to strive to enjoy Christ more and more. I further realized that I can't be satisfied with the Christ I enjoy morning by morning as the heavenly manna. There is so much Christ ahead of me for me to enjoy.

Our Christian life has a definite beginning and has a definite journey. If we remain the same year in and year out, Christ can not accomplish what He wants in us. We need to be mindful that Christ is not just our Savior and our Redeemer, nor is He just our manna and living water, HE IS MUCH MORE THAN THAT! Strive to enjoy Christ more, and we will experience Christ as the land whose dimensions are the breadth, the length, the depth, and the height. We must experience the unlimited, inexhaustible, immeasurable Christ!

Hmm...this wasn't really a review (oops). But I highly recommend this book to all Christians that want to pursue the Lord further in a deeper and richer way. A must read.

The All-inclusive Christ is a typological exposition of the geographical features (ch. 1-8) and the historical conquest (ch. 9-16) of the land of Canaan.

The Old Testament is a book full of types—actual people, places, and things that prefigure Christ, the church, or New Testament spiritual realities. The New Testament authors made abundant use of the types in the Old Testament, and the allegorical method flourished in the early church through people like Augustine.

The greatest type of Christ in the Old Testament is the land of Canaan. The good land was the focus of all the action in the Old Testament. It was central to God's purpose. Just like God promised to bring Abraham into this land, God has promised to bring us fully into Christ. Exodus 3:8 shows that the good land is the goal of the Exodus. Our Christian life is not just about salvation from something (sin/the world), but more importantly salvation into something (Christ). Many Christians have come out of Egypt, but haven't yet fully come into Christ. God wants to bring us fully into Christ.

Just like the good land provided for all the needs of Israel, God wants to bring us into a Christ who can meet all our needs. Christ is not simply a lamb; He is a land—an all-encompassing realm with an all-inclusive supply. The problem is that although Christ is in us, we are not that much in Him. How big is Christ to us?

This book will cause you to look at the good land in an entirely new light. And it will cause your realization of who Christ is to radically expand.

an excellent book - eye-opening to see what Christ is to us. Going through the Old Testament in the type of the good land and linking it with the New Testament in the Gospels and the writings of Paul to show us that God's desire is that Christ would be EVERYTHING to us. And by everything it literally means everything - all the positive aspects of the universe and all the positive things are a shadow of Christ!

I need to read this book again. And this time, with someone else - the riches of Christ in the Body of Christ are immense, immeasurable, and also... so available!

An excerpt from the book, "The life after the possession of the good land is a life of laboring upon Christ. It is a life of making Christ our industry and producing Him in mass production. We are working for “Christ Incorporated,” and day by day we are producing Christ. Many farmers are fruit growers and fruit producers. We are Christ growers and Christ producers. We are working diligently day and night on the farm of Christ. Yet we are working happily, and our work is such a rest to us."

This is a typological presentation of Christ to the soul that delights in Him; one who has been graciously redeemed and settled into the royal family of God. Beyond merely expressing theological facts, Witness Lee had quite a help from the LORD, to unveil the experiential developments of the New Creation Man.

He makes no mistake about his presentation being systematic as the reasoning of an average theologian demands, but he simply, yet deeply, expresses the truth about our experience of Christ in a neat and progressive way, which still makes him very systematic. He shows from the history of the children of Israel that, we enjoy Christ in a progressive manner, even though we already have Him fully at the point of redemption.

This is what accounts for our growth. We enjoy him as the "manna" and the different "offerings" and "drinks" without any effort on our parts, save reaching out to take what is offered us. All these we can experience independently, but Christ is much more! He wants us to enter into the good land, which is the fullness of Him that fills all things. And this, we can only experience collectively with fellow saints. Such that each of us can share our enjoyment of Christ with our fellow believers, which gives us a full and ever-increasing experience of the LORD.

There could be one or two things that you may think differently about, but in all, the underlying principle of our brother's exposition is flawless, as it deals with our experience of Christ and not a defense of Christ. It deals more with your personal life than settling some scores with your intellect. I praise God for this work and all such work that are focused on helping the saints to really apprehend and experience the LORD Jesus in a genuine way.

Found this hard to get into at first because of all the symbolism. Started it before going to Israel, lost interest and then picked it up again after coming back.
Going to Israel helped me appreciate this book better because you can see the pictures and types being carried out today in Israel. Christ is the all inclusive land and we need to labour on Christ. The Israelites after returning to Israel had to labour on the land to recover Israel to what it is today. If we want to experience Christ and see the riches we need to labour on Christ.

It’s such a great book to describe the inexhaustible riches of the All-Inclusive Christ! Every Christian must read this book.

Praise the Lord for His sovereignty and His all-inclusiveness! Even when I want to do something so much, I fail because I am limited. But it is a way of the Lord to make me realize how unlimited He is. The flowing of Himself is unlimited and is all-inclusive! And He flows in us! Even when the environment is limited and is limiting our every move or even our physical supply, much more do we experience this Unlimited Christ!

Oh Lord, You are all-inclusive! How wonderful that Christ is! I truly appreciate how this book shows us that through the journey of the Israelites, the Bible clearly shows us how we have can such as growing in our experience in Christ! Christ is our Lamb, but He is not just our Lamb. He can be our daily supply! He can be the center of our corporate life! Through Him we can live a life that's absolutely for God. In the land we can even labor on Christ to not only build up His dwelling place but bring Hims kingdom and authority down to the earth!

This is a must-read for any Christian. Forget waiting until you "go to heaven" - there's so much Christ to be pursued in our lifetime, and we should never be satisfied with the Christ we have. We need to progress from experiencing Him as the Passover Lamb to experiencing Him as the all-inclusive land so that He becomes everything to us.

A very good book. Explains the insights of Christianity as humanity rather than a mere religion.
This book talks about the aspects of Christ, experiencing him not just as Christ but inculcating him in your day to day life. He is present in you, in your drinking water, food, daily necessities....everywhere. A very nice book.

A simple theme: Christ is the fulfillment of the Old Testament promises to Israel. He is the land of Sabbath rest. But Witness Lee makes that intensely personal and very applicable to the modern Christian. I'll have to think over this some more.

we know from john and corinthians and other places in the new testament that many items in the old testament are types of christ, such as the manna, the lamb, the living water, the grain of wheat, etc. these aspects of christ are to be subjectively enjoyed by us and are the "riches of christ." the brethren opened a lot of that up. in that vein, this book explores the good land as the all-encompassing type of Christ to be experienced. God's goal with Israel was to bring them into this land, and through their experience in the land the temple would be built so that He could have a dwelling place/manifestation on the earth. This book was one of the foundational ones that turned the page in my christian life.

Just got done reading this book of types and figures of Christ found throughout the Old Testament, but it did leave me wanting as many of the types and figures truly seem to be far reaching for me, but the thought behind this is a powerful message giving a new respect for the world around me. Worth reading for sure.
