After satisfying the demands of the religious cult with her world-changing cartographic abilities, Aleeya is determined to find a way to pay off the debt that her beau Veritas has taken on to free her from slavery. Returning to Ka’ai, the city of her enslavement, seems foolish, but it’s the only place to find information. Nowhere else has clues to her own mysterious origins.
Unfortunately, her miraculous new abilities have attracted attention from powerful people in Ka’ai and beyond. With so many vying to control her, untangling friend from foe proves difficult. Who can Aleeya trust as the stakes mount and the emperor himself joins the competition?
Continuing the story from Book 1, Mapmaker—Book 2 is a Roman-inspired tale of geographic wonders and self-determination that readers of action-oriented fantasy will enjoy.
N. E. White is the author of the Mapmaker Trilogy, a new adult fantasy series set in a Roman-inspired world where wingmen fly and heroines refuse to give up. She also recently published the start of her next series, the Draghi Chronicles, with The Lgened of Damndrake, a new adult fantasy with shapeshifting dragons. Her stories blend found family, adventure, and unique world-building that lingers long after the final page.
She lives in Northern California with her husband. When she's not writing, she's hiking, kayaking, or out doing field archery. All her stories feature unlikely heroines taking extraordinary adventures across magical worlds. And of course, she loves to read, too. Visit www.nilaewhite.com to learn more.
Aleeya has only recently gained her freedom but doesn’t have time to relish it. Not when everybody wants to kill or control her. Aleeya’s cartographic abilities can potentially change the world, which has everyone riled up.
To make matters more complicated, Aleeya has a growing group of loyal followers, starting with her found family. She’ll have to find a way to keep them safe while doing the impossible.
My Review:
I was lucky enough to read Mapmaker: Book 1 about a month ago, so imagine my excitement when I got offered to read Mapmaker: Book 2 shortly after! The sequel is just as intense as the first, if not more so.
Aleeya’s story got to me. She’s one of those characters that readers will want to bundle up and protect. This adds tension to the world as we have to watch Aleeya struggle to navigate a safe path in life. On the bright side, it makes rooting for her very easy. It’s impossible not to wish the best for her.
There’s a lot to digest from Mapmaker: Book 2. It’s well-crafted and yet so emotionally raw. The combination of which gets under your skin and won’t let go. So, if you’re sitting down to read the first novel in this world, be prepared to dive straight into book 2; you won’t want to walk away until you’re done.
When I finished Book 1, I was full of questions about the world and magical systems. Many of those questions have been answered, yet I still crave more. That’s how I know I’m enjoying the worldbuilding - I can’t get enough details.
Mapmaker created a foreboding and magical world with high stakes and compelling characters. And obviously, I’m giving extra points for the inspiration (Roman Mythology) and cartographic elements.

The second book of the trilogy did not disappoint! Just as good, if not better than the first. It's so easy to take Aleeya and her friends to heart and feel her pain as she fights to keep her freedom and keep her found family together and alive. The action is good and fast moving. The story heart wrenching and yet warming at the same time. I'm anxious to dive into book three to find out what happens next.
N.E White’s Mapmaker series picks up Aleeya’s story and continues in an epic fantasy of her quest to find her roots, be with the one she loves and protect those she cares for in a roman-like world where politics and a power plays abound. Non-stop action. A great read I enjoyed. I’m voluntary leaving this review after receiving an ARC copy.
