Killer on the Potomac is a gripping intrigue that will keep you on the edge of your seat as Dora and Logan chase a serial killer. Once again, KD Richards has crafted a taut, emotionally charged story that expertly balances a high-stakes police case with a sizzling, second-chance romance between Dora and Logan.
From the first page, we’re plunged into the case. A serial killer is stalking the D.C. area, always leaving one calling card, a delicate flower placed in the woman’s hair. Dora Madison catches the case, but her professional and private world is rocked when the FBI sends in their top profiler, Logan Elkins, her former lover. He's still brilliant, frustratingly handsome, and he wants her back. You can cut the tension between Dora and Logan with a knife, and their shared history adds a rich, if not complicated layer to the investigation, forcing them to confront their past while trying to catch a cunning killer. As they work to unravel the killer's motives and find a pattern among his victims, it becomes a delicate dance of rekindled passion that holds a large amount of lingering hurt for Dora.
As the suspense builds with each new move on the board, the killer's identity is cleverly concealed until the final reveal that is both surprising and satisfying. Dora and Logan make a great team both in the field and in their private life.
If you're a fan of thrillers that are as much about heart as they are about heart-stopping action, Killer on the Potomac is an absolute must-read. I’m so excited for the future books in this series, as KD Richards always gives the reader a thrilling mystery with a wonderful romance to keep you turning the pages!
I have read several books by K. D. Richards, especially the West Investigation series (all of which were very good). Killer on the Potomac is the first book in the Guardian of Justice series. A DC police detective (Dora) and an FBI agent (Logan) chase a serial killer despite their romantic past and breakup. I would have given the book a 4 rating, except I was distracted by poor editing. Some mistakes were grammatical, and others involved calling a character the wrong name or misidentifying car types (for example, a car chase where a potential suspect drives a Mercedes down the street but then drives a Camaro on the wrong side of the road).
So many inconsistencies in the book. The murder victim was drowned like the others, makeup and hair perfect. Oh wait a second, the victims have all been strangled. Michelle moved to London and worked at the Louvre. That’s a heck of a commute as the Louvre is in Paris. Michelle worked at a gallery. Whoops, she was an investment banker.
Liked the story line but should really make sure these glaring errors aren’t in the final copy.
This is an easy to read police serial killer mystery - not intense. The story is developed well. It’s a second chance romance. Easy to put down if you need to. I had an idea of who the killer was but that didn’t negatively impact reading the book. I read it as it was part of a subscription. I wouldn’t seek it out to read. Minor point - The cover is misleading as the female lead is a detective and as such doesn’t wear a uniform.
Good story with believable characters. Surprise killer throughout the story. It was more insightful because a few times we were able to get in the mind of the killer.
This was a great blend of love and danger. I highly recommend if you enjoy the following tropes: second chance, forced proximity, and workplace. I can't wait to read more of KD's work.
