Kerana is being sent to Earth to begin her duty as an Eldurian. Hers are a perfect people, without flaw and without sin, never experiencing the fall of man. Created by God to shepherd His people on Earth, they remain in the shadows, unnoticed. Kerana looks human, speaks like them, and has been taught to act like them. Above all her mission is to serve the humans.
Arriving on Earth, Kerana meets Eli at school. He is an ordinary human, with a father suffering from alcoholism, and a past that threatens to ruin his life. A star scholarship lacrosse player, Eli has to forget his true passion and live in a shell that doesn’t let anyone in. Until he meets Kerana. They find themselves intertwined in a connection that neither can quite explain. When this connection puts the two of them in danger, they find comfort and protection from each other. When Eli discovers that there is more to Kerana than just her stunning looks and grace, the Eldurians and their home planet of Eden may not remain a secret for very long.
I have been writing and creating stories for as long as I can remember. I had written several stories by the time I was a teen, but Homecoming was the first full manuscript I had ever written with the intention of sharing it with other people. I attended Houghton College, where I received my Bachelor’s degree with a dual-major in Writing and Psychology where I honed my skills. I now live in Florida with my husband, a youth pastor at a local church, where I happily spend my time writing, ministering to teens, and enjoying the life God has given me. Homecoming is the first book in a trilogy, and I am working hard on the second one!
Homecoming drew me in right from the start. I became caught up in the stories of the 2 main characters, and quickly began to care about what happened to them. I love that the story alternates by chapter between the 2 main characters and that the story is told completely through their eyes. It creates a nice rhythm to the book. It's a compelling story about the power of love - both human and divine - to transform hearts and lives. I look forward to the next book!
I read this book while traveling and I found myself wishing for the sequel! The character development and perspectives of Kerana and Eli are amazing. I have read many books from the first person perspective and I was able to really feel like I was in their heads, seeing and experiencing the world through their eyes.
If you looking for a great read from a new author this is it!
What an amazing debut by Kate! It wasn’t a huge action story or even a big romance one, but there was such a plain spiritual message that makes this novel very unique and special!
I really enjoyed the way the story started off and how Kerana and Eli were introduced. They both have such a different background and history, but are both equally fascinating in their own way.
Eden (the place where Kerana is from) sounds so beautiful! Probably one of my favorite parts of the story itself is experiencing it through Eli’s eyes since he’s a human. The Eldurians even sound amazing, but their homeland even more so.
I could go on and on about the Gospel message that is presented through “Homecoming,” but it would take so long to write! However I will say that I was very moved and even in awe of the simple truths that are spoken.
I highly recommend this novel to anyone who is in need of a story that reveals God’s desire in having a personal relationship with us. Kate shows the reality of having to trust God as well as why where here despite hardships or other doubts that we face in life. Plus the romance was very sweet as well!
I am giving this novel a 4.5 stars rather than 5 stars, but only because I felt there were a few places that lagged.

OK - you can judge a book by its cover - and here is the proof! The cover of Homecoming pulled me into the book - it is so beautifully rendered. After reading the story, the cover is much more meaningful. I love sci-fi and I love romance, Kate Hasbrouck has a "handle" on both! I am looking forward to her next book.
This book is a Young Adult Christian Fiction novel. It is a romance, but there is other things happening in the story so I would say the romance is not the main focus. Each chapter switches between the two main characters. I felt like the writer did a great job with the pace and flow of the story between the two characters. The book does touch on a few topics such as lost of love ones and how people handle that situation (not always in a good way). The way the writer talks about these issues still makes the book appropriate for teens without parents needing to be concerned. All in all, I thought it was a cute little book.
Homecoming is the sort of book I thought I'd be bored reading. However, from the first page I was sucked into the world that Hasbrouck presented, enthralled with the characters and finding myself diving deep into their stories as they unfolded. If you know someone that loves a good romance story with a strong fantastical world attached, hand them this book!
Today's we are taking a peek at Homecoming by Kate Hasbrouck. This has been a fun read, but first let me tell you a little about the author!

In addition to ^^^ all of that, she is kind and such an enthusiastic author. She's a good egg. << The Book

My Review
The Story: I'm so excited to report that this story is not only intriguing, but I can genuinely recommend this for the young adult age of readers. The characters are in college, but I can say it is 100% appropriate to pass on to a young teen. Thank you, Kate! There are so many books I love, but because of sensitive material I don't feel comfortable passing them along to youth age kids. You can definitely tell that Hasbrouck helps minister to young people—she is mindful of where they are in life in her writing.
I also really enjoyed the character depth in the story. While Kerana is pure and innocent, Eli is broken and has a past that cripples him from being who Adonai has called him to be. We all have things in our past that are huge hurts, and I love that Hasbrouck has addressed that reality.
The story really starts (seemingly) focused on Kerana, but I find that the story leans into a "self-discovery" for Eli. It's really a story of searching for wholeness in our broken Human world, and finding comfort in a God who is real. Plus, some sweet romance too! ;)
The Writing: Hasbrouck has remained within her target audience!!! Again, let's just give some finger-snaps for this. :) Highly recommended for young adults.
There were a couple of things that I would have loved for Hasbrouck to dive into more in her writing. I think that the point of view needed to be deepened in places. Just because I wanted even more action beats of what people were doing, but I would say over-all that is nitpicking!
I loved her two secondary characters Steven and Ev. It would be so awesome if she wrote a book about those two! They were both funny and dynamic, perfect supporting roles for the more serious and focused Eli and Kerana. AND...let's just take a moment and applaud that name—Kerana—SO. COOL.
SO. I hope you guys check out Homecoming! Also, make sure to check out more reviews via this blog tour page. Would you be interested in Homecoming? Leave me a comment and we can talk about it!
In Homecoming, by Kate Hasbrouck, Kerana has finally entered adulthood, which means she has to spend a year in the human world. Going to college on Earth and trying to blend in with the humans is harder than she first anticipated. She draws the attention of nearly everyone around her, including Eli. Kerana’s encounters with Eli might just spill the secret of her home planet of Eden.
Homecoming was different than I expected. I’m not quite sure what I expected, but it was certainly unlike any other book I have read. In a good way, of course. I confess, I could barely put the book down.
The characters were sweet and had depth. Seeing Kerana experience earth and both the dangers and joys of it was entertaining. Both of the main characters grew in many ways.
The plot was intriguing. I barely knew how the events would play out. I was seriously stressed about how the romance would turn out. How could it be possible for someone who is perfect to marry a non-perfect person? Especially with the other major problem going on.
One of the things that impressed me the most was the Eldurian race that Kerana was a part of. I was curious to see how the author, Kate, would portray a perfect race, a race like the humans that had never given in to sin. Because of this, I was extremely curious as to how Kate had come up with the idea. Kerana’s impressions of Earth and the comparisons to her perfect world brought home the consequences of the Fall of mankind. I was surprised to see that Kerana and the other Eldurians had selfish or jealous reactions or emotions. If they are merely emotions, than they are not sin exactly, but if they are more than that, then they are sin? All the same, I loved the perspective on the two worlds and the differences therein.
Overall, Homecoming was a sweet romance with an intriguing look on human nature and the comparison to a perfect world. I look forward to new books from Kate Hasbrouck.

Homecoming is the story of Kerana, an Eldurian from Eden, who, having reached adulthood, has to go to Earth (college in California to be precise) and spend a year among the humans to learn how better to protect and serve them on behalf of Adonai (God). Coming from a perfect world and her knowledge of humans limited to books and stories from elders, she must learn to adapt to the imperfect world of humans, in particular, learn to cope with negative emotions such as sadness, frustration, and fear, as she tries to discern her mission on Earth.
Enter Eli, the fellow student who intrigues her and is not quite who he seems. Is he the one she is supposed to help? What happens when Eli finds out more than he should about who Kerana really is?
An enjoyable debut novel.
This is the first book of a trilogy, so watch for the second installment.
I received a copy of the book in a giveaway, but the review is voluntary and reflects my own opinions.

I absolutely love love loved Homecoming! The author has created a reality in fiction that is both intriguing and mesmerizing. I love supernatural inspirational fiction and this story is top notch! I love that the characters were opposites in a lot of ways and the story touches on some sensitive issues…such as brokenness and one character’s unwillingness to accept God’s plan for his life. I loved seeing the world through Kerana’s eyes and the chemistry with Eli. This story pulled me in on page one and did not let go. I’m thrilled that this is the beginning of what will be a series, because I need more….now!
okay, to start, I really did enjoy the book. the characters are very likeable, and you're able to feel for them. it's always amazing watching characters change throughout a story, and being able to actually see them develop. the plot was good, though it could have been a bit stronger. I wish some characters had been developed a bit more, but that's only because I liked them so much. I would really recommend this book for others, because I really did enjoy it. I'm so glad I got the opportunity to read it!
One of the best I've ever read. But it loses a star for serious spelling errors throughout the book. I could figure out what was going on, but it really got on my nerves.
