*Married to the Ruthless Highlander is a steamy Scottish historical romance novel of 80,000 words (around 400 pages) written by Eloise Madigan and published by Cobalt Fairy.
No cheating, no cliffhangers, lots of steam and a happy ending.
In the first book of this series, Emma, twin sister of Freya and younger sister of Adam, Laird MacGordon, had be seeing Laird James Stewart. When James threw her over for Emily (who is now married to Adam), Emma took off for parts unknown. Eventually she sent word that she was ok, but needed some time and would come home when she was ready. Meantime, Adam was determined to find her, which is how this story begins. Unlike Emma, who was outspoken and thrived on physical activity, Freya was quiet, obedient and liked to read. So when Adam thought he had a lead as to where to find Emma, he made arrangements for his friend Doughall, Laird MacGordon, to guard Freya while he and Emily went off to find his other sister. Freya, who thought Doughall was the Devil incarnate, was furious to be left behind and snuck out on her own. Of course she got into trouble and Doughall arrived in the nick of time to save her. He promptly relocated Freya to his castle where he felt more capable of protecting her, and introduced her as his betrothed, which created a whole new set of problems. From there the story involves Freya and Doughall fighting their attraction to each other, while Doughall attempts to eliminate the threat to Freya’s life. This story has a rather interesting man-at-arms, an emotionally shut down Laird, a forced marriage, steamy encounters, lurking danger, and a surprise villain. It moves quickly, is exciting and engaging!
I loved this one so much! Laird Doughall has been called a devil, emotionless, and fearless. Bent on avenging the death of his parents. When he is asked by his best friend Laird Adam to watch over his sister Freya while he searches for her twin, Doughall is surprised to find that the quiet mouse Freya has left the castle following her brother. Unfortunately she didn’t get far before she is attacked by 3 men. Now he is bound to protect her and keep her safe from the man who wants her dead. A lot going on in this book. Doughall’s past holds secrets even he does not know about. Freya finds her voice when she is put in a position to marry a man who doesn’t love her. Betrayal, missing twin, vengeance, danger, passion, surprises and so much more kept me turning the pages. Loved, loved, loved Doughall and Freya.
I do enjoyed my time following thru Doughall’s healing from isolating emotions from pain. Freya was the perfect catalyst to bring him out of those walls erected about his heart. Their marriage will never be boring. The lovemaking was handled so tastefully, adding to the imagination with terms that lifted the mind rather than graphic words numbing the imagination. Well done. Ersie was a fun character I would like to follow! Thank you for story to not put down!
I loved this story. Freya has been the overlooked little mouse all of her life until she has to stay with a stubborn and bitter laird, Douglas while her family searches for her missing sister. Without her family to thwart all of her wishes, Freya begins to discover a side of herself that had been hidden. Doughall begins to discover this side of Freya, as well and finds that she helps to uncover a softer side of him. With a surprise villain threatening to destroy their happiness, they finally give in to to their unspoken desires.
This is the story of a young lady who is furious with her brother for going off to hunt for her twin sister but leaving her with his best friend who is Laird to another clan. But she is fearful that the one being left in charge of her is the Devil himself. She slips away from her castle before he arrives following her brother. Before nightfalls she is attacked but rescued by the man she fears the most. Now what will happen to them all.
I enjoyed this book. Cold, detached Laird Doughall promises to protect his friend's sister Freya while her brother goes seeking her twin sister. Freya from a childhood memory hates the Laird and wants nothing to do with her brother's request. Doughall's demeanor comes from a childhood trauma and could care less what Freya wants. Their interactions make for a good story, culminating Freya becoming braver as the story progresses. There is a mystery to be solved, with a good ending.
Freya was trying to follow her brother and sister in law but she wasn't as good at riding and was ambushed and almost murdered when the "Devil Laird" came to her aid. She ended up staying in his castle and when found in a compromising position they were forced to marry, but life is never that easy in the Highlands and you need to read the story to see if you figure it out.
I love the way you turn their tragedy into finding their one true love. I love this story line. These two characters really complemented each other. I hope their is a story on his man of arms. She will be hilarious. Can't wait to find out what happens next. Great story.
I'm enjoying this series of "Unwanted Highland Wives" so far, the mystery, suspense, action, friends, family, villains all held my interest. The characters are well written both main and supporting, also the continue search for the sister, all of this made for a good read, so looking forward to the next story in this series
What a wonderful book. Filled with love and struggles. The characters are people who you care about and understand what motivates them. The plot keeps you guessing and the ending unexpected but satisfying.
This adventure was really exciting and intriguing! I didn't even guess who the bad guy was. I was shocked. The characters were awesome. The story was what dreams are made for. Thanks for sharing your story.
She was having the life choke out of her. When the pained stopped and the attacker stopped to protect himself. But the laird killed him. And took to his home where she would have someone to help her anything were to happen again.
I disliked Uncle Flynn due to his Covetous ways. I liked how Doughall and Freya fell in love. I would recommend "Married to the Ruthless Highlander" to lovers of Scottish Highland Historical Fiction.
I'm recovering from a nasty chest infection. This wonderful story just what I needed to help me cover. So well written and filled with amazing characters.I highly recommend this book.
This was a great one I love this one. Only thing I don't like about this book is the way the uncle acted But everything else was great But if you don't have a villain and a book it's not a very good.
These historical romance stories are so great but even more so when they have that mystery in them to solve! The story carries you, the colorful characters bring it to life and the romance holds you there. It lets you dream and live through them!
3.5 These books read just like Lydia Kendall's books, but maybe a tad better. The steamy scenes in the book are not as ridiculous as hers.
I find this author's books somewhat entertaining, however they don't feel like medieval romance novels. The story line is there, but the interactions and behavior between the characters is more of a contemporary romance.
Little did Freya realized what her little adventure would get her into so much trouble. It's great how they each pushed each other to change. It has some real twists to it that will keep you reading to find out how it will end.
