“In a word, THEHOLYCRAPBOMBYESMOREYES.”
—LIA RILEY, USA TODAY bestselling author, on The Hook Up

Now in print with exclusive new bonus content!

It’s lust at first sight in the fourth book of New York Times bestselling author Kristen Callihan's Game On series.

Unreasonably sexy NFL star Finn Mannus plus a few guys from the team agree to do a charity calendar photo shoot—naked. With a name like Chess, Finn assumes the photographer is male. But when Chess opens the door to her studio, Finn’s confidence comes off as cocky arrogance. Even while in the buff, Finn manages to firmly plant both feet in his mouth, setting Chess’s teeth on edge.

With their flinty chemistry, it’s going to be hard to keep things strictly professional.

Kristen Callihan's The Hot Shot is chock-full of delicious tropes, including:
• Lust at first sight
• Opposites attract
• Grumpy sunshine (she’s the grump)
• Friends with benefits
• Plus, a sexy playboy football star who wants a lot more, and a heroine who just…doesn’t.

You don’t find love; it finds you. It’s got a little bit to do with destiny, fate, and what’s written in the stars.

Love found me when I dove into The Hot Shot by Kristen Callihan, a deep and dreamy love story that soared straight to my soul.

Maybe it’s because I love FOOTBALL and watch it obsessively.

Maybe it’s because I love sports romances, my favorite romance genre next to rocker reads.

Maybe because friends-to-lovers romances are my weakness…my kryptonite.

Maybe it’s because I need to lose myself completely in stories, feeling every word.

Maybe it’s because I get a thrill when meeting a new or new-to-me author.

No...not maybe at all...but YES!!! YES to all of these and more! Kristen Callihan wrote SO MUCH MORE than a sports meets friends-to-lovers romance!!! The Hot Shot is a love story of FEELS and FATE, a romance of DREAMS and DESTINY. This book wholeheartedly CAPTIVATED ME, calling to my heart and soul, as The Hot Shot CONSUMED ME from beginning to end. There haven’t been many sports romances that have made me FEEL EVERY WORD like The Hot Shot did, a story that shot stars along with tears in my eyes.

The first thing I noticed about The Hot Shot was how smooth and seamless Kristen Callihan’s writing flows, as if this book were an ocean and the words were waves, separate but perfectly intact and intertwined with the story. I can’t exactly explain it but this book just FELT RIGHT. From the very start, The Hot Shot CLICKED in every way. I felt this natural ease when reading The Hot Shot with words that not only perfectly flowed but were FLAWLESS. Reading this story felt as natural as breathing, and at times I held my breath in excitement and anticipation.

Is there anything sweeter than a friends-to-lovers romance?!? A friendship that blossoms like a flower into more. The Hot Shot is sweetness meets smolder, a friends-to-lovers romance with passion in spades. This story is SWOON in spades and oh did The Hot Shot hero make me swoon like I was watching a sappy Hallmark movie during Christmastime.

Finn Mannus is an all-star NFL quarterback, a player on and off the field. Gorgeous with sun-kissed brown hair and sky-blue eyes, tall, chiseled, and cut…beautiful inside and out. The last thing he wants or needs is to entangle himself into a relationship, lose his focus from the ball.

I suspect Ms. Chess Copper is going to take me down and make me feel it.

Except Finn didn’t count on a sassy, spitfire, tattooed, pin-up looking beauty with dark hair and green eyes to throw him off his game. Chess Copper has dated a bunch of frogs and has yet to find her prince. Her prince is bearded and inked, eccentric, an artist of some sort. Her prince is not supposed to look like the pretty boy quarterback who pushes her buttons.

It’s too bad that fate has other plans…

The second I touch him, I know it’s a mistake…In that instant, I know him. I know him. I feel like I’ve known him my whole existence, like I’ve been waiting for him to return from wherever he’s been.

Friends…the friend zone is easy. Chess and Finn will be friends only…

Until lines are blurred…

“You and me. We could be real.”

With each of Finn’s heart-hitting words, my heart blossomed, blooming, as it bled for love.

Feelings develop…

“One day, Chess, you’re going to feel safe enough to let go. And I’m going to be there to catch you when you fall.”

Oh Finn…this sweet and sexy man stole my heart. Caring. Considerate. Cocky. Complex. Utterly perfect! Finn…this brave and beautiful man OWNED me. I cried happy and sappy tears as this big and strong quarterback is vulnerable inside, and that itself is powerful. Finn held my heart in his hands. My heart was all Finn’s! I LOVED this hero, this knight-in-shining armor so very much.

Those lines are crossed…

Finn presses his mouth to mine. The kiss is sweet and swift, a touch of lips to lips, a slight exchange of air. And it still manages to stop my heart and send heat flaring up my thighs.

That kiss, so sweet and delicate was EVERYTHING!!! I could not help but smile, as this kiss lifted me up to the clouds, swooning all the way.

The chemistry between Chess and Finn is a play they can’t fake. They have crossed the Friend Zone and jumped into the Point of No Return…

"Tell me again that I'm a bad bet. Because I can't wait to prove you wrong."

"Prove it."

Their connection is real. Somehow whatever it is between Chess and Finn feels right…but neither do relationships…

“Everything is right when I’m with you.”

Sweet. Sexy. Soulful. I SMILED a lot. I CRIED at times. I HELD MY BREATH a few times. I FELT ALL THE EMOTIONS the whole time. The Hot Shot with its hero quarterback with a huge heart held my heart the whole time reading. I don't think I could love Finn any more as this PERFECT Prince Charming POSSESSED ME!!!

Feel-worthy and flawless, The Hot Shot is a football love story flooded with feels, and I dare you not to feel every single word! I FELT ALL OF THE FEELS in The Hot Shot like a spiral ball straight to my heart! This story is a slow burn of the soul. I am still soaring in the clouds with stars in my eyes, floating on Cloud Nine. I still can feel one hell of a hangover heating me like the Summer sun from The Hot Shot, a sweet and swoon-filled sports romance that shot through my soul and made my heart dance!

Why did I wait so long to meet the master writer and word magician known as Kristen Callihan?!? I was a fool to not inhale this author's books sooner! There is no greater BOOK BLISS for me than discovering and then LOVING a new or new-to-me author's writing, such as Kristen Callahan's. I am a fan girl for life! I am in UTTER LOVE with this author's powerful writing, as Kristen Callihan made me experience every emotion through mere words!!!

Kristen Callihan rose to my all-time favorite authors with one book: The Hot Shot. One book that made me smile, swoon, smolder, and snicker. One book that hit my heart and soared through my soul. One book that was beauty in words. One book where I felt every word. One book that was MINE IN EVERY WAY as I was its.

I was WOWED and WOUNDED, my heart breaking in the best way, as The Hot Shot did one hell of a heart-stopping number on me. This tale is one tender-loving TOUCHDOWN!!! This book is PURE MELT-WORTHY MAGIC! The Hot Shot is a shot to the heart, PERFECT IN EVERY WAY!!!

“Do you understand? Your life stops, mine does too.”

I'm starting this "review" off with a tangent. You're shocked, I know.

I am a moody as FUCK reader.

description

Maybe I watched a football game that afternoon and then wanted to read a football romance.

Maybe I saw a pack of bikers on the freeway that day and then wanted to read an MC club romance.

Maybe I saw a friggin' preview for Downton Abbey reruns and felt like a historical.

There is no rhyme to my non-reason.

description

Sometimes I want said historical...

description

...sometimes I feel like some PNR shifter/vampire/werewolf/cyborg/alien/what have you action...

description

...sometimes I want a dark read or a 'lil BDSM...

description

...sometimes I want smutty bullshit with no actual plot or story line...

description

...and other times...

I want a new adult-esque sports romance where the H and h start off as "friends" and engage in an unending stream of witty conversation and underlying sexual tension.

ENTER KRISTEN CALLIHAN

Because this be homie's forte.

And I like it.
I love it.
I want some more of it.

LIVE! go! go! get it! :p

➦Picking a right rating for a book is an ongoing struggle for me. A lot of bloggers will probably agree with me on this. You know how sometimes you finish the book and you sit there thinking "ok. 3 or 4 stars?"

➦Because, I mean, I did LIKE it... but did I love it? Hold on. *proceeds making a pros and cons list*

➦You're probably rolling your eyes at me. And even though this is no rocket science, THE STRUGGLE IS REAL.

➦But then once in a while you pick up a book and by the end of it you have this kind of reaction:

➦And you just KNOW. You are giddy because you know without a doubt it's a 5 star read while simultaneously you are fighting an urge to go and start removing stars from your previously read books. Because god damn it, you were too generous!

➦Sorry for the lengthy beginning but, as you have probably gathered, this was one of those books for me. I definitely recommend this one to those who love sports romances with sexy quarterbacks. This was definitely one of the best football romances I've read and will be on my 2017 favorites list for sure. The sports aspect is prominent but not overpowering, so if you don't usually read sports romances I still encourage you to give it a shot!

➦This book also has a "friends first" trope and two awesome characters who at first glance appear to be a very unlikely pairing. The "getting to know each other" stage was my favorite and the anticipation was KILLING ME. I seriously couldn't drop this book and that alone says a lot because normally this is me by 11 pm:

➦I promptly fell in love with this swoony hero and strong heroine! I will definitely be re-reading this one. Hoping for an audiobook!

So were going to…What? Be friends.”
He looks almost boyish then. “Yeah. We are.” His eyes spark. “Fair warning. I’ll still be picturing you naked half of the time. So get used to a bit of leering.”
I snort. “You just had to go and ruin the moment, didn’t you?”
“Probably should get used to that too.”

GAH. All of the stars! ALL OF THEM!

Do you know why I love that one quote up there? Because it's the perfect summary of this book. It's this incredibly endearing combination of humor, emotion, and passion. I seriously couldn't get enough of it! Opposites attract in this sweet and sexy sports romance and I was absolute putty reading it. A happy pile of swooning goo. Can goo swoon? Hmm...no matter. What's important is how much I seriously loved this book!

From bickering, to unlikely friendship, to roommates, to lovers, Chess and Finn stole my heart...and I never want it back
Like an inevitable collision with a charging linebacker, I suspect Ms. Chess Copper is going to take me down and make me feel it. Bitch of it is, I’m not sure if I hate the idea or kind of like it.

The last place Finn wants to be is in front of the camera. When the photographer hired by their team to shoot their annual calendar doesn't automatically swoon at his feet like so many other women, he's intrigued. She's so far from his usual type, but there's something about her sharp wit and sarcasm leaves him hooked.

Chess has just about given up on relationships, and the last person she would ever date is the playboy quarterback with the easy smile and a horde of women in his past. But then when she sees the depth hidden beneath his easy smiles, she's intrigued, and what soon begins is the unlikeliest of friendships even when both of them yearn for something much more.
I want her with a ferocity that aches low in my gut, and I find myself reaching for her without thought, only to restrain myself at the last second. Because she is not mine.

I loved reading their budding relationship develop. There's so much more than first meets the eye with Finn and watching his layers reveal themselves was utterly delicious. He's so much more than Chess expected and watching that slowly crumble her walls left me a grinning fool. I adored their easy camaraderie. They were so different and yet so perfect together. I loved the slow burn; until the sexual tension was sprung so tight, I thought I might explode if they didn't finally didn't give in to the pull between them.

Finn was the perfect easy-going humor to off-set Chess's prickly sarcasm. I simply couldn't get enough of these two together. I loved their friendship but I definitely loved watching it develop into something more.
Finn, what am I going to do with you?” His smile is an easy glide, but his eyes hold mine a beat too long. “Keep me. I’m pretty sure I’m good for no one else.”

And then there was that epilogue. GOD. That epilogue deserves 5 stars for it alone.

Book four in what's become one of my favorite sports romance series delivered on the promise with one swoony, funny, and sweet read. I adored every single page of it. If you're a fan of this series, this book is an absolute myst read. I'm already in need of my next fix, I just don't know who I want more, North or Jake.

“…I’m so gone on you. There’s no coming back from it.” I kiss those candy lips. “Haven’t you figured it out?” I say against them. “Every time I call you Chester, I’m saying I adore you. I fucking adore every part of you.”

The Hot Shot = swoony hero, fantastic banter, HOT HOT HOT scenes, and an overall great story. For those who haven't read this series, this book focuses on Finn Mannus, NFL quarterback, and Chester (yes that’s her name) Copper, a photographer who has been hired to photograph Finn and some of his teammates for a nude calendar shoot.

 photo tenor_zpslk4g9l9c.gif

Right off the bat, Chess and Finn have that great banter I think Kristen has become known for:

“So? Are you coming or what?”
“Longing to see me, are you?”
“Yes,” she drawls. “I need to reconfirm that your head truly is that big.”
I’m grinning wide now, even though she can’t see me. “Which head are we talking about?”
“I’m hanging up….”

I saw Kristen say if Drew and Gray had a baby, it would be Finn. And I have to agree. He's playful and funny like Gray, romantic like Drew, and so damn sexy and lovable just like the rest of her heroes. And while NO ONE can replace Drew, man oh man does Finn come close. After the 60% mark, I honestly highlighted everything that boy said. It's been a while since a book has made me so giddy that I had to stop reading and clutch my chest while smiling like a loon. But Finn did that.

“Are you staying?” I croak out. Chess drops her gaze to the stove, and her fingers tighten around the handle of the spatula. “I like it here.”
I lean against the counter so I don’t make a fool of myself and fall to my knees. I love you here.
I clear my throat. “You keep making me breakfast, and you can stay here forever.”
She snickers. “I’d hold back on that declaration until you’ve tasted your breakfast. I’m not known for my cooking.”
Then I’ll make you breakfast forever.

___

“It’s not going to go away for me.” My arm slides from him as I look up.
“What isn’t?” Finn’s expression is solemn, but when he catches my eye, the corner of his lip quirks.
“Wanting you.”

You know what I also love? When you read a scene you LOVE so much, you need to go back and re-read it a few more times because you can't let it go.

“So…” My mom says in a voice that is distinctly meddling. “Chess is nice.”
A smile pulls at my lips. “Nice isn’t how I’d describe her.”
“Oh? And how would you describe her? Here, use a plate.”
Perfect. Fuckable. Stunning. Funny. Mine.
Mine.
Mine.

I just want to say their first kiss was my absolute most favorite part. Besides fantastic banter, I think Kristen also writes some of the BEST ‘first kiss’ scenes.

And I realize this review is mostly just quotes from Finn, but I can't help it, I ADORED HIM!

God, I love her smile. I want to keep teasing her just to see it bloom again and again. “It would have worked. I would have kissed you the way I’d wanted to since we met, and you would have been mine.”
“Oh really,” she deadpans, but I see the knowledge in her eyes.
“Really. I was made to kiss you, Chess.” She goes soft at that, giving me those bedroom eyes. And her voice grows husky, making me hard and tight with anticipation.
“Maybe I was the one made to kiss you, Finn.” Emotion rushes through my chest, taking my air, and I have to breathe deep.
“You were.”

UGHHH FINN JUST SHUT UP AND MARRY MEEEEEE!

 photo 46798-Mom-I-Love-Him-So-Much_zpsqvdmagsm.gif

There are two minor things that kept me from rating this a full 5 stars. 1. I found Chess to be a little....flat. Or maybe she just came across as cold? Whatever it was, I didn't really connect with her as much as the other heroines in this series. And 2. I didn't really see the need for the "conflict" that occurs towards the end. It kind of came out of nowhere and I could have done without it.

Other than those things, I clearly enjoyed this book. Even if you haven't read this series (but you really really should), I HIGHLY RECOMMEND reading this awesome story.

FABULOUS!!!

I say this every time I read a book by Kristen Callihan – she is one of my most favorite authors out there right now. Her GAME ON and VIP series are truly phenomenal! She creates the most charismatic and swoony Heroes that make me wish so darn hard that I could just live out the rest of my life within the pages of her books. This series is one of the best in the sports romance genre, and that is no exaggeration. Up until now, Gray Grayson has been my most beloved hero in this series but now he’s going to have to share that #1 ranking with Finn Mannus.

It is almost impossible not to fall completely in love with Finn Mannus, NFL Quarterback of the New Orleans Saints. Even the way he is first introduced in the book is one of the most memorable scenes ever. Chess Copper is a photographer whose latest assignment is to photograph the pro football players of New Orleans for a calendar to raise money for charity. They will all be posing in the NUDE! Chess and Finn start off on the wrong foot at first but during their photo shoot, Chess sees a vulnerability to Finn that has her thinking that she just may have judged him unfairly. There also is no denying the sexual tension that quickly builds between them. At first glance, they both seem like polar opposites. Finn is the all-American, gorgeous football player and Chess appears to be goth with her outward appearance and snarky attitude.

At first, this seemed like an “opposites attract” romance but when Chess and Finn strike up a friendship and the bond that they share becomes pretty intense, it is clear that they have quite a bit in common. There is no denying that they’re perfect for each other. Finn has been living the bachelor life and has had countless hook-ups. No one has ever touched his heart until Chess. Chess also has never been in a serious relationship with a man. Guys usually don’t make it past the first date with her.

The two agree to keep things platonic between them because Chess is not looking to be one of Finn’s many conquests and deep down Finn doesn’t know if he has it in him to commit fully to anyone. There are moments when we get to see that Finn isn’t entirely happy living the single life and that he envies some of his married teammates who don’t have to go home to an empty house. Finn seems to be missing something in his life and Chess quickly and easily fills that void, and he is doing the same for her. When an electrical fire destroys Chess’ loft, leaving her homeless, Finn quickly comes to her rescue and moves her in with him. Their lives only become deeper entwined and the lines between friendship and something more are beyond blurred. But the fear of the unknown have a crippling effect on both Finn and Chess, and it just may be what ends up tearing these two apart.

I don’t think there is anyone out there who hasn’t read any of the Game On books yet and those of you who have been fans of this series are going to 100% fall in love with this one!! I predict that there will be a lot of cat fights over who Finn Mannus belongs to.

A solid, entertaining read but nothing more for me. I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first two books.

I’m not motivated enough to write a review. Must be a reviewing slump.

::: FULL REVIEW NOW POSTED :::

WOOHOOOO!!! This book was so good! It's a sexy, swoony, slow burning friends-to-lovers romance with a strong, feisty heroine and a famous football player hero who was her complete opposite in almost every way and yet, even though they did their best to deny it, the sparks flew between them! After an unfortunate house fire left her homeless, they became roommates and again tried to stay friends only but when they had to pretend to be boyfriend/girlfriend for a holiday weekend, their feelings became too intense to ignore... I loved their romance!! It was funny, hot, and well-written. I highlighted so many quotes! A great romantic comedy perfect for fans of fun, sexy, light-hearted sports romance!!

So the whole thing started with a naked photo shoot. Him the naked football player with a cocky attitude. Her the no-nonsense photographer who took exactly none of his shit. But despite getting off on the wrong foot, their undeniable attraction to each other led to an intensely charged shoot.

“She isn’t the sweetly pretty or stunning beautiful kind of woman I usually spend time with. She’s severe, elegant. It would be easy for me to say she isn’t my type. But I’m fairly certain that goes both ways. And I’m beginning to think my “type” has just changed.

They genuinely couldn't have been more opposite. As the quarterback of a world famous team, he lived in the spotlight while she preferred staying behind the lens. He was Mr. One-Night-Stand, she was looking for commitment. He was everything she was trying to stay away from, and he wasn't looking for a relationship, but something kept drawing them back to each other and they became very close friends.

“Chess is just Chess. I don’t need to fuck her. I just want to be and not have to explain it.”
“Frankly,” he says, as we jog up the stairs. “I’m more surprised she even talks to you. I could have sworn she hated you.”
“I grow on people.”
“Like fungus.”

He might have been allergic to relationships and she might have been solidly anti-hook-up but that didn't stop their friendship from growing. They partied together, talked, texted, confided in each other and had the best time ever on their non-dates.

“You should see your face right now,” he says. “You are in total smit.”
“Smit?”
“Yeah, smitten. Totally fucking smitten.”

I'm gonna be honest, even though I usually prefer the romance side of books, I actually really loved them as friends. Taking the romantic side off the table during this time gave them a chance to really just be who they were without any worries about anything else. There was nothing on the line to lose by showing their differences and they were able to show each other their true selves, and yet the more time they spent together, the closer they became... until eventually they just couldn't deny that what they shared was so much more than just friendship.

“It’s not going to go away for me.”
“What isn’t?”
His expression is solemn, but when he catches my eye, the corner of his lip quirks. “Wanting you… I said I wouldn’t push you, and I meant it. But one day, you’re going to feel safe enough to let go. And I’m going to be there to catch you when you fall.”

I loved all the light hearted humor that was sprinkled throughout the book. So many of their interactions had me laughing and chuckling and this genuinely is a book that kept me smiling a lot!

“Are you going to get in this bed?”
I stand a bit straighter and huff out a breath. “That’s all you have to say?”
His lips part as if he’ll speak but then he closes his mouth before opening it again. “In the spirit of friendship, I feel I should point out that your nightshirt is transparent when backed by the bathroom light.”
I jump out of the bathroom doorway, flicking off the light as I go.
With a glare, I hustle my ass into the bed, sliding under the cool covers as he laughs low in his belly.
“Asshole.” I pull the comforter up to my chest. “You could have told me sooner.”
“The struggle was real.”

Their romance was a smoking hot slow burn. I actually loved how functional they were both as friends and as a couple. They communicated, worked through things (even the difficult things), and when the kind of drama flared up that could so easily have torn them apart, I was really impressed with the way they handled it both together and separately. Things did get a wee bit eye-roll-y at the end for a minute but it didn't last long and things worked out sooo well in the end. I couldn't stop smiling after reading the epilogue!!!

His expression turns tender. “I fucking adore you.”
God, my heart. I can’t take it… “You’ve grown on me too.”
“I’m like fungus that way,” he agrees happily.

You can read this book as a fully complete standalone. It is technically part of the Game On series — which is a series of interconnected sports romance standalones where each book is about a different couple from the team. But I haven't read the previous books, so I read this totally separately, and was never confused. Also, as I mentioned, this book has an epilogue so it's genuinely readable as a complete story if you want to just dive in. As I said, I haven't read any of the other standalones in this series, but I have read her other rock star VIP series and I fell in love with her writing then so when this blurb intrigued me, I was excited to read it and I'm so so glad I did! It was a winner!

If you're looking for a fun, sexy, light-hearted opposites attract friends-to-lovers sports romance with a strong heroine, a swoony hero, a lot of fun banter, smoking hotness, and a dash of angst, then definitely try this book!

Rating: 4.5 stars! Contemporary Adult Romance. Can standalone.

Chess is a photographer and she landed a job which requires her to take pics of the New Orleans football team. In. The. Nude. On a regular day the bodies of models, athletes or actors are shapes and shadows. Today she has Finn, quarterback of the team, before her lens and while he rubbed her the wrong way from the start, she does everything to ease his discomfort.

Finn isn't happy about the shoot, he hates being reduced to his body. He is a bit of a jerk towards Chess and he'll probably be the first to admit it but when she shows him kindness he opens up and his flirty side comes out to play. Despite their issues and misgivings in the beginning they connect during the shoot.

She isn’t the sweetly pretty or stunningly beautiful kind of woman I usually spend time with. She’s severe, elegant. It would be easy for me to say she isn’t my type. But I’m fairly certain that goes both ways. And I’m beginning to think my “type” has just changed.

They become fast friends and underneath their affection for each other there is an undeniable and irresistible attraction. But Chess doesn't do hookups and Finn doesn't do relationships so they are at an impasse.

“Pay attention, Chester. I said I want to know you. I don’t get to know my hookups.”
“So were going to… What? Be friends.”
He looks almost boyish then. “Yeah. We are.” His eyes spark. “Fair warning. I’ll still be picturing you naked half of the time. So get used to a bit of leering.”
I snort. “You just had to go and ruin the moment, didn’t you?”
“Probably should get used to that too.”

When Chess loses her home Finn doesn't hesitate and gives her a place to stay...and himself a place to come home to. So what, if he has been lying to himself all this time? What if what he wants with Chess is EVERYTHING? How can he convince her that he isn't the player she thinks him to be?

“I love coming home to you,” he says with a content sigh. “I have from day one. But now…” He glances down at me. “It makes it all worth it.”

When I say that I loved the two main characters of this story it's an understatement. There are no words to express how good and real they were.
Chess is strong, she doesn't show her belly to anyone except her best friend and often times not even to him. She is good at deflection but Finn is good at reading people and most of the time he knows exactly what she is doing and why. I loved that he was one step ahead of her most of the times.

“So don’t come at me with this, ‘we’re best friends’ bullshit when you want to use it to drive me away.”

Chess yearns for something real and profound and Finn gives her everything she needs at any given time. She needs his friendship and she has it, and when she is ready for more, he gives her that too. He goes by pure instinct where Chess is concerned and gets it right most of the times. He has a quiet kindness and thoughtfulness about him, the one that doesn't require a thank you. For Finn it is what it is. I am utterly in love with him.

“I’m crazy about you,” he says softly. “I don’t need time to figure that out.”
“I’m crazy about you too,” I whisper. “I’m just scared.”
Before I can blink, he leans in and gives me a firm kiss. It’s more tender than sexual. I need that more right now. How does he know to do that?

Where Finn goes by instinct, Chess is all reason and logic. She needs to feel safe and she does with Finn. But there are realities which might become insurmountable obstacles. And when they are finally being addressed they can make or break a relationship, depending on how you approach them.

Finn's and Chess' relationship develops at a deliciously slow burn. Their friendship and witty banter are my most favorite things in this book. Kristen Callihan is the Queen of hilarious inner monologues and funny dialogues.

“You know, if you colored your hair black, you’d make a pretty good young Elvis.”
She blinks up at me. “Do you know ‘Hound Dog’?”
“Cute.”
“‘ Jailhouse Rock’?”
“Now, Chester, ‘Don’t be Cruel’.”

They are also insanely hot together. Their chemistry is off the charts.
I'm sorry for going nuts with the quotes but I have so many favorites, I can't decide which one I like best.

There are books that touch me profoundly. The Hot Shot is one of those, it hits close to home and as we all know these are the stories that stay with us for a long time. I was not prepared for this book and it packed quite a punch. I didn't cry buckets but the last 15% were so angsty and emotional, Chess and Finn had my heart in such a tight grip, I teared up. A lot.

I adore Kristen Callhian's writing style, it's magical. It draws you in from the first page and doesn't let go until you're done. And even after you close the book the story resounds. These wonderful characters just won't let go.
I also love that it's located in New Orleans, which is one of my favorite cities in the US. I can see every street, every place vividly in my mind.
The side characters are pretty amazing too and I'm very much looking forward to Jake's story. I've read some really good books already this year but The Hot Shot will make my Best of 2017.

She smiles up at me, and my chest suddenly hurts. Ink black hair spread out like a fan on the sheets, bottle green eyes glinting with happiness, pretty pink mouth smiling wide, she’s the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen.
“Oh, fuck, Chester Copper, I’m so gone on you. There’s no coming back from it.” I kiss those candy lips. “Haven’t you figured it out?” I say against them. “Every time I call you Chester, I’m saying I adore you. I fucking adore every part of you.”

I need Finn Mannus in me my life!

Chess and Finn's chemistry was instantaneous and had me on the edge of my seat from the very moment they met. Which is one of the best meetings I've read about in a long time, by the way. It also showed me that I need a career change and someone needs to teach me how to take really amazing photo's so I can one day photograph a naked Hockey team. Any volunteers?

Anyway, back to the book and out of my daydream, this story was fantastic. Finn and Chess were friends before they moved on to more and I really loved their slow moving relationship. Even when they were both denying their true feelings for each other their connection was right there at the forefront of their characters, and I loved seeing how they fit together. Friends, lovers, or they didn't even know what, it was all brilliant.

There was more angst and emotion involved in this story than I was expecting but I really liked how it all came together. Finn and Chess both really developed into wonderful characters and they were written so well that I couldn't help but fall in love with them. Flaws and all. The bottom line is that this is a must read book and I hope you will pick it up. It is part of a series but could be read as a standalone with no issues.

5 stars!

Review and Excerpt at Of Pens and Pages.

I’d say “move over, Gabriel Scott” but I love that man to bits. So, scoot over a little, Sunshine. Finn is joining you in my top Kristen Callihan book boyfriends!

It wasn’t love at first sight for photographer Chester Copper and quarterback Finn Mannus on their first meeting. A feat considering Finn was in the nude, posing for her. But after the photoshoot, the two surprisingly become friends and enjoy each other’s company.

Even with the attraction and chemistry palpable between the two, Chess is reluctant to jump into bed with him. She wants a relationship, and Finn doesn’t seem the type to want to be in one. So, they stay friends, even though Finn wants to prove to her he’s not a bad bet.

Days pass into weeks. Before I know it, Finn has become a fixture in my life.”

Their relationship changes from friends to roommates when Chess loses her home and Finn offers her a place to stay. Then from roommates to fake boyfriend and girlfriend, Chess joins Finn in his home in California for Thanksmas, where their relationship finally changes from fake boyfriend and girlfriend to real boyfriend and girlfriend.

Kristen Callihan has mastered the wonderful art of build up and sexual tension. The pacing was perfect, and just what I was looking for in a contemporary romance read. She made me fall in love with the characters as they fell in love with each other. Eased me in slowly then drowned me in the love, affection, and FRIENDSHIP between Finn and Chess. She definitely knows how to write a good book boyfriend and how to write it well.

I have a lot of love for this couple. I love their banter and flirtations and loved their friendship and natural chemistry. They’re both likable characters who are strong on their own and even stronger together. Chess is a fierce woman who has the wit and temperament that perfectly complements Finn’s. She keeps her cards close to her chest but would give her whole heart for those she loves the most. And I love her sense of humor! As you can see, so much love. Haha.

And Finnegan Mannus. This man. I am so in love with him it’s insane. This man turned me into nothing but mush. He’s sweet, funny, thoughtful, and everything I want in a book boyfriend. Plus with that face and body, he’s pretty much cemented his position in my top 10 book boyfriends of all-time. My cheeks still hurt from smiling too much.

Finn, what am I going to do with you?” His smile is an easy glide, but his eyes hold mine a beat too long. “Keep me. I’m pretty sure I’m good for no one else.”

And two words—delayed gratification. It was a pleasure watching these two get to know each other, become friends, and fall madly in love. There’s no insta-love here. The attraction, yes. But their story had the perfect build up I was looking for. I love it! Plus their banter was ace. I’m going to re-read this book over and over again.

The Hot Shot is the fourth standalone in the Game On series told in alternating POVs. It’s a perfect balance of sweet, funny, hot, and downright swoon-worthy with a strong and admirable heroine and an unforgettable hero. 5 stars for sure!

Title: The Hot Shot
Series: Game On #4
Author: Kristen Callihan
Release date: April 18, 2017
Cliffhanger: No
HEA

The Hot Shot is my sixth Kristen Callihan book, and with each new reading experience, she enforces my love of her witty writing. Sharp, and delightfully entertaining, her stories are pure fun from beginning to end. This story was no exception, in fact, it may have claimed a spot in my top three favorites of her books. And that's really saying something, because my affection runs deep for her past characters.

Chess and Finn charmed me right from page one, growing on me even more as I got to know them. And a naked calendar photoshoot? It's not your average first meeting, but Chess held her own and dealt with the team like a pro. She had spirit, fire, and put them all at ease with her straight-forward attitude. Finn didn't leave a favorable impression, he was a bit too cocky for her liking and stuck his foot in his mouth. But I sure loved to see the sparks fly when she gave it back to him just as quick and easy.

I really loved the fact that they had that immediate attraction to each other despite their outward appearances. He's the pretty boy of the team, and she had a harder edge with the goth girl look going for her. They saw past surface superficiality to the core of what mattered.

Like an inevitable collision with a charging linebacker, I suspect Ms. Chess Copper is going to take me down and make me feel it. Bitch of it is, I’m not sure if I hate the idea or kind of like it.

Finn is working through his mysterious feelings from the start, shuffling, rearranging what he's always thought he was looking for in a woman. It's not instantaneous, his knowledge that he wants a relationship with her. But he knows that she's real. She puts him at ease, and allows him to be more comfortable, more himself that he ever has with anyone before. To him, there is nothing more valuable as honesty and comfort. Living in the public eye, he never knows people's true intentions towards him. Unfortunately, Chess has had it with the dating game, and never was a girl who could do casual hook ups. Which lands them firmly in the friend zone.

I don’t know this girl. Not really, and yet I’ve inserted myself into her life with a determination I usually reserve for winning games. Except I have no endgame here. I told her I want to be friends. But how does that work for us?

I loved seeing these two work through their feelings and navigate what was growing between them. There was tenderness, laughter, and a growing certainty on Finn's side that he needed to do whatever it took to convince Chess that what they had was worth fighting for. He was everything in a swoon worthy hero you could ask for. Fiercely protective, determined and persistent, supportive, and most of all, he got her. He may have had some hang ups and heartbreak from a past experience, but that didn't prevent him from recognizing how special she was and how perfectly they fit.

There was a minor conflict with his ex, but it wasn't frustrating or overdone. As well, Chess had lingering fears because of the impact of her parents' impulsiveness on her life growing up. Leading with her heart rather than her head is a challenge that she has to learn to overcome. But they work through everything together, and always with maturity.

I did not know what true joy was until Finn. Every emotion I’m capable of having amps up with him. I feel. I live. I breathe. The world is more real when he is there. He wants to just be. Not think. I don’t know if I can. But, for Finn, I’ll try.

Simply put, these two were the entire package. Sweet, sexy, and so adorably funny with their wisecracks and teasing. I ate up every minute of their relationship with a silly smile on my face. This is the definition of what a feel-good sports romance is supposed to be. Kristen Callihan has done it again, and I can only hope that she doesn't finish this series anytime soon, because I won't know what to do with myself when there are no more books to look forward to. If you're on the fence about reading this, do not hesitate. Jump on over here to the party. You don't want to miss a minute.

Find all of my reviews at: http://52bookminimum.blogspot.com/

Good golly, Miss Molly, I am seriously behind in reviewing. I read this sucker nearly a month ago. When I went to check what kind of notes I had left for myself regarding this one I found the following:

“Finn is so perfect he’ll make your crotch catch on fire.”

The eloquence. It just pours right out of me, don’t it?

As you can see from both the placeholder “review” as well as the comments below, The Hot Shot ended up being a surprise little bonus from the porny librarian even though it wasn’t available in Kindle format. I originally thought I’d finally force my company into fixing the glitch which is the status of my employment by reading it on my computer monitor during my lunch hour . . . . .

But thanks to the kindness of a stranger (who is now my bestie for the restie whether she likes it or not), I was informed . . . .

And I could, in fact, read pornographic ePubs using Overdrive on the Kindle and keep my dirty little secret away from the prying eyes of Big Brother. The only downsides to this feature were the tiny font which made me all up on the screen like a real perv due to old lady eyeballs that don’t see so great and no highlighting available. To make matters worse, although I attempted a game of beat the clock, this sucker disappeared before I had a chance to double-check my bookmarked pages. Long story long, you’re going to have to take my word (*cough expert opinion cough*) on this one.

The story here is about a photographer named Chess(ter) Copper(pot) . . . . .

(Quite possibly the worst of the endless list of terrible character names, but at least it made me chuckle.)

Chess has been hired to take some “artsy” (Ha!) pics of the local football team for a charity calendar where they go the Full Monty . . . .

It’s impossible to deny Finn is quite the male specimen – however, Chess is nothing but a professional and even though her ladygarden is hinting it could use some watering from the ginormous gardenhose Finn is hauling around in his jockstrap, the two wrap up the photo shoot and part ways. But there wouldn’t be a story if it ended there, so of course they run into each other like 47 seconds later at a bar while Chess is on a date with no potential and Finn is channeling his inner Kylie Minogue by whining to his homedog about how he can’t get Chess out of his head . . . .

The only problem? Finn is kind of damaged goods and is not interested in a relationship. Good news is, he’s not interested in a wham bam thanky mam with Chess either so he proposes the two become friends – which they do. When Chess finds herself homeless due to a . . . . .

Finn offers her a place to stay. And eventually the inevitable happens and they make many of the sexuals which had me . . . . .

It was a veritable Seussical romp with these two. They could do it in a bed, but first she might just give him head. They could do it against the wall, and even in the SHOWER STALL. Hygiene is of the most importance, yo.

If you’re like me, you have failed at reading romance after romance complaining about how . . . .

The Hot Shot might be a winner for you. While there is some angst, it’s not crybaby bullshit and best of all WHEN THESE TWO HAVE A PROBLEM THEY TALK ABOUT IT. Like immediately. They don’t run away from things or make a mountain out of a molehill. It was so refreshing. Although the first book in this series wasn’t a big winner for me (because stupid female lead and drama llama), I’m so glad I gave it another shot. If the porny librarian can provide me a hook up, I’ll probably even read another : )

ORIGINAL “REVIEW”:

I just discovered that when a book is only available as an "ePub" (meaning not Kindle friendly) from the library's Overdrive site, there's an option to read it directly on your computer. Today is probably the day I will officially be fired from my job . . . . .

5 Falling For Finn Stars!

 photo 01C854E9-435E-4806-899A-23B004BACDAD_zps2azs4rpk.jpg

Finn Mannus aka Manny is a gorgeous pro football player in New Orleans. As an NFL quarterback, he lives his life in the public eye. He's a bachelor known for playing the field & he never gives a woman more than a one night stand. His career is his top priority & very demanding. He doesn't have time for relationships.

Chester Copper aka Chess is a design major who has been working as a photographer. She's been hired to shoot an annual charity calendar for the local NFL team. She usually keeps her cool & is totally professional, but she's having trouble around Finn Mannus. Finn is an extremely hot, almost pretty football player. He's cover model beautiful & is an absolute perfect specimen. She usually isn't affected this way, but he has her flustered. Then he opens his mouth & acts like an entitled, arrogant jerk.

 photo 7F458869-3884-4B20-A695-B406004AC7FF_zps60ekbv1p.jpg

Finn's team's marketing director has asked him & his guys to pose for a calendar for charity. They soon learn it's to be shot in the nude. Finn is pissed & extremely uncomfortable. Something about the photographer is getting under his skin & making him feel vulnerable and exposed. She's feisty, and not his usual type, but for some reason he can't explain everything about her just does it for him. He's so turned on around her & having a hard time pretending she doesn't effect him.

This unlikely pair become more comfortable together & begin running into one another all over town. Soon a friendship forms & they really enjoy each other's company. Their chemistry is undeniable, but Finn isn't the settling down kind, and Chess is looking for something more long term than a hook-up. Even though they have this intense attraction, they decide to just be friends. Finn feels this need to be close to her, and wants to know her better. Suddenly Chess finds herself homeless & Finn becomes her roommate. Friends turn to lovers, and they both want more. Finn is crazy about her, & soon wants to be hers in every way.

 photo 9362BA47-756D-4EED-AB6A-0CADBF94C65B_zpskrq8znz9.jpg

-"I want to know you, Chess Copper. I don't know why. I just do."

-I want Chess. I've wanted her since the beginning.

-"Oh, fuck, Chester Copper, I'm so gone on you. There's no coming back from it."

 photo 0674E8F1-920F-43AC-9223-734FE85A6C55_zpsf7ntipcd.jpg

Before he realizes what's hit him, Chess has become everything to Finn. She's become essential to his happiness & a permanent fixture in his life. He can't imagine not being with her. Chess is falling hard for Finn & it scares her to death. They can't keep their hands off each other & are insatiable. Every time he touches her he takes her breath away with his beautiful heart and the way he looks at her.

This was such a fabulous book! I've read this whole series & loved them all, but Manny is my #1. This man totally does it for me with his delicious body & the way he loves. Get ready to fall in love with Finn. :))

 photo 3ECDD682-0F03-4346-A598-F65F78E712E5_zpsxvmvwaxs.jpg

-"I don't think you realize how irresistible you are, Finnegan."

-Nothing compares to kissing Finn Mannus. It is glorious, delicious. Perfect.

-Finn was made to be worshipped. And he is mine.

_______________

The Hot Shot is the SHIT!

The opening of this book was beyond funny. It’s bathroom humor, literally! The football team has arrived at the photographer's studio where they think they’re getting photographed by a guy. When they knock on the door and no one arrives right away to answer the door the guys assume the photographer is in the bathroom because of the delayed response. They’re beyond surprised when the door is opened by a female. Starting a book off with an awkward moment that leads to the reader laughing out loud is my type of book.

The scenario created by these fun-loving football players has them in an awkward position because they assumed wrong about the photographer. From the girls perspective, about this scenario, that is your worst nightmare to have a group of guys thinking you’re in the bathroom doing number 2. From the guys perspective, they just screwed up big time because they just told a stranger through a closed door to ”nip it off” thinking it was a guy and it turned out to be a gal. Definitely, not the best way to impress a female you’ll be working closely with over the next day or so.

Chess is a ferociously independent woman who is accomplished in her own right as a photographer and business owner. Her bluntness mixed with her sarcasm keeps Finn on his toes.

Finn comes off as the stereotypical quarterback but as you peel back his layers you’ll see he’s a good guy with a soft heart. He's swoon-worthiness who will make your heart melt.

description

Chess and Finn are polar opposites in the attraction department. Chess goes more for the tatted guys and Finn goes more for the model types. But there’s was something beneath their first impressions that drew them to each other.

At the core of their relationship is a friendship. A friendship that is coated with friendly flirtiness. They both are dancing around in their attractiveness to each other because it feels safer to pretend they’re only friends than to explore their feelings.

I love that just like Gray’s mom did in “The Friend Zone” Finn’s mom offers her wisdom to her son:

”Just remember, Finnegan. Love with your heart, not your head. Think about things too much and it all turns to shit.”

As a lover of sports romance, this one is TOP NOTCH!! Don't miss it!

Overall Opinion: I was super excited for this one, and unfortunately I think I set my expectations a little to high. I know that I'm part of the minority club here, and I just didn't love it *shrugs*. I really enjoyed the characters, and I also really enjoyed their progression into more. But...I feel like something was missing once they do finally get together romantically. The sex was hot! Don't misunderstand me -- it definitely wasn't that. I'm just not quite sure what it was. The ending also felt rushed and it didn't fully address their issues in a way that I didn't fully feel confident that they would make it in the long run. I didn't hate it, but I just didn't love it either :/

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Chess and Finn story. They meet when Chess is hired to photograph a charity calendar for Finn's professional football team. They instantly bump heads, but for the first time in a long time Finn felt he was treated as a person and not as the celebrity he is and this draws him to her. The meet again, and decide to start up a friendship. The friendship turns into living together, and that turns into something more and they fall in love. There is some personal baggage that both of them have to deal with, some sexy times, a few laugh out loud moments...and they get a HFN ending.

POV: This alternated between Chess and Finn POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good until the end. The ending felt rushed, but I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well otherwise.

Instalove: No, they take a while to develop stronger feelings.

H rating: 4 stars. Finn. I liked him. He was hot, sweet, and funny. I liked that he was portrayed as struggling with because a lot of the time we don't get the man's perspective on that.

h rating: 4 stars. Chess. I liked her sassy, independent ways. I appreciated that she knew she couldn't emotionally handle a ONS and that she didn't fall into a pile of mush and have sex right away anyways like some of these hs seem to do.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Hot. They have some hot tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Safe sex: Yes and no

OW/OM drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This (again) didn't have enough closure for me. I felt like the ending was rushed and it didn't give us any closure as to how some of their big relationship issues that they faced were worked out . I would call this a HFN ending.

How I got it: I paid the $4.99 on Amazon for it.

Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers

I am absolutely in love this book.

I mean, it has a hot football player, a feisty heroine, and a “friends to lovers” trope…what’s not to love?? Kristen Callihan is definitely one of my favorite M/F authors.

rumplehappydance.gif (250×250)

I fell in love with the two main characters, the moment they met, at a photo shoot for a naked calendar!

Finn is the quarterback of his team and even though he loves his “job” and the attention that comes with it…being photographed while naked is not really his thing. These feelings only get worse, when he meets the photographer…a feisty little lady with a weirdass name.

So what is a man to do…Right…be a cocky asshole.

“Let me guess, …You’re obsessed with finally finding One-Eyed Willie.”

52a5c14a6ea056828843b090be787f89.jpg (500×750):

Good thing that Chess (Chester Copper..why yes it's from "The Goonies") has dealt with cocky assholes before and she is not intimidated by the hot quarterback.

“Make all the dick jokes you want. They won’t save you.”

She is attracted to him though, which throws her off her game a bit because, for one, he isn’t her normal type and for two…

…she is a professional for god’s sake! 😀

Unforgettable+beautiful+girls+smiles+%2821%29.jpg (500×668):
Finn feels the exact same way about Chess. But Finn doesn’t date and Chess is not interested in a hook-up. He doesn’t want to say goodbye to her though, they are so good together and she makes him feel at peace. So he proposes to be friends, which is what they become…

The best of friends…friends that lusting after one another. 😛

Neil-Patrick-Harris-Lets-Be-Friends-On-How-I-Met-Your-Mother.gif (250×141)

I loved the two of them together. Their banter was so funny, but it was also sweet to see how much they cared about each other. They can’t contain their lusty feelings for too long though…

…and something that started as a great friendship soon becomes so much more.

“You’re my girl and I’m your guy. Fate knows it. Now get with the program” 😀

tumblr_mgo2agYQC81roskk1o1_500.gif (500×199)

These two were absolutely perfect together.

10+++ Stars!!!

First, let me say that before reading this book I was unwavering in my love for Gray Grayson. I was 100% sure that, no matter how endearing or cute, or hilarious, or romantic or hot Finn would be, no one would top my Cupcake.

Secondly, let me admit Finn may have just done that. Forgive me Gray, but Finnegan Mannus is simply too amazing for his own good.

Now, let’s proceed with order. This story started right with a bang. The idea of the nude photoshoot added a sprinkle of awesomeness, hotness and intimacy to their first encounter. Even though it’s not love at first sight (thank God!), it’s clear from their banter and from the sparks flying around that these two have amazing chemistry.

I also loved how the angst levels were set on “really low”. Only the last section of the book made my heart ache, but given how we have both POVs, it was clear that even when they weren’t together, they wanted to be and they needed the other. So it made even the ache bearable and kind of bittersweet.

I can’t move. All my brainpower has gone south to take orders from my rising dick. And said dick is insisting that we get closer. He wants a formal introduction

Being in Finn’s head was hilarious and it made me crack up with laughter as much as it made me swoon. There were moments when he would describe what they were doing, or looking at Chess doing something and in my mind I could taste the golden atmosphere of happiness. That feeling of completeness and rightness and utter joy he was feeling. Callihan is a pro at portraying smitten guys

I mean, read this:

“I’ve never been walked home by  man without him expecting something, Dr. Phil.”
“You’ve been walking home with the wrong men, Chess.”

At first, even though they feel the attraction, they both agree on just staying friends. Finn is not the relationship kind of guy and Chess thinks he’s only a player. And I loved how Finn showed her time and time again what an incredible guy he is instead. He truly goes out of his comfort zone for her, and he may not know that he’s heading towards relationship territories, but when he gets there he couldn’t be happier to finally share something so special with Chess.

Chess, or Chester, is a unique character. She looks bad-ass with her tattoos, dyed hair-tips, but all she craves is stability, a safe harbor where to rest. They are very different people, but somehow they work perfectly together.

“Don’t coddle me,” I mutter, even though I can’t find the strength to move away. “I don’t need it.”
Finn hums in his throat. “Yes, I know. You’re a total badass. But you’ve got this wrong. You’re coddling me. I have needs woman.”
A broken laugh escapes me. “I’m already regretting my confession”
“Chess?”
“Yeah?” My voice is a rough mumble in his sweater.
“Shut up and let me hug you.”

I cannot decide whether my favorite parts were when they were doing just random stuff like eating catfish or going to a costume party or when Finn went 100% into swoon mode and came out with stuff like this:

Hey, Chess, I don’t jut want you. I need you. I need you so much it hurts. I’m pretty sure if you leave me it will end me.

She makes me grateful for every sunrise. Because I wake up knowing she’s in the world.

As I said, there isn’t much angst going on inside the relationship, but things happen around them which they are call to face. Finn was her rock when she needed him and Chess helped him come to terms with something that happened in his recent past. Now, I’m not going to spoiler anything, but I’m going to say that there’s a scene in which, usually, the heroine would have flipped out, freaked out, thrown a tantrum and dropped the hero for the lame misunderstanding. And instead, Chess did the most mature, selfless and wonderful thing of all: she helped the person who was causing her pain. I know it sounds super cryptic but if you read it (AND YOU SHOULD!) you’ll know what I mean and you’ll be awed by how things got resolved, because it’s so unconventional and yet so adult and human it humbled me and made me love her character, and this book, even more.

“Finn, what am I going to do with you?”
His smile is an easy glide, but his eyes hold mine a beat too long. “Keep me. I’m pretty sure I’m good for no one else.”

See the nerve on this guy? How dare he be so wonderfully cute and sweet like this? In his mind, it’s clear that Chess is his one and only, but the knucklehead that he is, he doesn’t actually make her understand it through words. Men. It was fun, though, seeing this big football player, charmer by nature, being brought to his knees by this girl who, at first, he writes off as anything special and who will eventually change his life.

I kind of want to put up a commemorative plaque. ‘On this site, Finnegan Mannus gave Chester Copper five orgasms and reduced her to tears of pleasure.”
“I believe you were the one tearing up.”
“It was an emotional moment.”

We don’t get to see all the previous characters in the series. There’s only Dex who has a active role. Drew is mentioned in the end, but doesn’t really do anything. This bummed me at first, but then we’re introduced to this new cast of fun, boisterous football players and it compensated. I’m really curious about Jake, especially after what happened in the end, and hope he’ll get a story too!
The style, as usual, is flawless. It’s fast paced, there’s never a dull moment, and when you read the words “the end” you want to throw a fit because it’s over and it feels like you lost two friends. I wanted their story to never end.

“Finn… You don’t fight fair.”
“I never will hen it comes to you, Chess. You’re my girl and I’m your guy. Fate knows it. I know it. Now get on with the program.”

I am in love with a fictional character, and I don’t care who knows. That’s right. Finn from Hot Shot by Kristen Callihan has stolen my heart. You might have heard of him: 6’4”, gorgeous, talented, professional quarterback, sensitive, and witty. Yeah. He’s mine. All mine!!

Chess is a photographer and the kind of total badass I want to be when I grow up. Finn isn’t her type and she isn’t his. Yet despite a rocky beginning there is an instant connection between them. As the two spend more time together, their friendship grows as does their mutual sense of belonging.

I find friends to lovers stories to be hit or miss. It’s all in the timing. It doesn’t work for me when two people have been platonic best friends forever, but in the span of five minutes are suddenly overcome with the need to rip each other’s clothes off. No. Just, no. Finn and Chess are friends, but they never lie about their mutual attraction. Finn’s flirt game is on point, and the buildup pays off in a big way.

I can’t even narrow it down to one aspect that made me love this story so much. I ate up the banter, the vulnerability, and the delicious sexual tension between Finn and Chess. Finn’s relationship with his teammates is well developed, bringing additional humor and heart to an already entertaining story.

I’ve been a huge fan of the Game On series, so I approached this book with excitement and a bit of hesitance. There’s always the chance that your favorite series will go downhill. Kristen Callihan pulls out all the stops with Hot Shot and it exceeds my expectations on every level. You can easily enjoy this book without reading any of the other books in the series, but this story makes me want to go back to the beginning and read them all over again.

Bis auf das Ende und ein kleines Randthema, was mir beides etwas too much bzw. auch echt unnötig war, fand ich das Buch wieder perfekt. Typisch Kristen Callihan einfach.
Werde mir demnächst wohl erstmal ihre andere New Adult Reihe anschauen müssen...

IT'S ALIVE!!!

***4.5 stars***

He’s more than just a pretty face

I’m fascinated by beautiful people. It’s not unusual for me to point out to hubby, men and women who I find striking. Obviously, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and what I find striking could be very different from the next person. While I may be fascinated with beautiful people, I’m also intimidated by them. I know most gorgeous people are born that way and can probably thank genes for their fine looks. Do they get embarrassed like normal people? Do they get used to people staring at them? Do they get sick of people staring at them? Is life easier because of their looks? Do good looking people get a better chance at becoming a hot shot because of the way they look?

The fact that I'm even contemplating these things...maybe it's not all fun and games being a pretty face.

ANYWAYS… Geez, completely off tangent. I started thinking about Finn and I wondered whether I would be able to talk to him. I mean, if I went by the cover of The Hot Shot alone, I know I’d make a fool of myself. Seriously, HOT is an understatement. So, I think I would struggle to have a normal conversation with Finn…let alone take a photo of him...in the BUFF.

Chester has just won a contract to photograph the New Orlean’s NFL team…NAKED!! Bloody hell!! Most women (and some men) would die for the gig, but Chess can’t seem to get excited over it. She’s physically exhausted and not in the mood to rein in a bunch of overgrown, muscle-bound boys. The fact that she’ll be taking photos while they have their bits and pieces swinging, doesn’t get her heart pumping like it should. It’s just a job. The fact that she's even thinking that is just plain sad. Imagine her surprise when one of the men actually catches her eye...and she's distracted by his swinging bits and pieces.

Finn is not looking forward to having his picture taken. It’s part of his job and he’s used to it but doing it in the buff is definitely out of his comfort zone. Finn’s quite used to being in the buff around strangers in the locker room but this is different. He’s going to be exposed. It’s for charity and that is the only reason why he’s doing it…and maybe because the marketing director told him he had to. Well, he’ll do it. Not because he wants to because he has to.

Ummm…PROBLEM!!

Finn’s a wee bit uncomfortable having his photo taken in the buff when he finds the photographer striking, enthralling and riveting. His bits and pieces swinging aren't swinging down anymore. Poor Finn's brain is scrambled and he is sure that Chester Copper is going to take him down…and he's pretty sure he’ll like it.

I really enjoyed The Hot Shot. This is not a cheesy love story where the pretty girl falls for the pretty boy. Oh, there’s plenty of pretty faces in there but looks become somewhat insignificant as Finn and Chess get to know each other better. There’s plenty of attraction, but it has a lot more to do with personality than looks. These two are friends before lovers and they get to know each other better before they even contemplate a relationship. I liked getting to know them too.

The Hot Shot touches on some very interesting subjects that made me think outside of the square I live in. Chess’s best friend James is bisexual. James and Chess have an interesting conversation about fitting into moulds and how sometimes it’s easier to stay unattached than take a risk. There is also a look into the process of recovering after a loss. When I say loss, I actually mean in more ways than one. There’s the loss of a loved one, the loss of property and the loss of something you never knew you wanted but was taken before you knew you wanted it. Kristen Callihan handles all of these subjects well. It was real, hurt a little but did try to show that there can be rainbows after the rain.

The Game On series has been one of my favourites and The Hot Shot was a fabulous addition to the series. We are told at the beginning that The Hot Shot and The Game Plan played out simultaneously. If you haven’t read The Game Plan yet, it won’t affect your enjoyment of The Hot Shot. One is not needed to be read before the other.

Definitely a winner for me and I can’t wait for more in this series…pretty please with sugar on the top.

I’ve enjoyed every book in this sports romance series and The Hot Shot was no exception. Kristen Callihan writes a great friends to lovers story and I loved watching Chess and Finn become friends and fall in love.

Omg I'm sitting here thinking what a perfect read this was, all the butterflies, all the feels, EVERYTHING that I wanted and needed in this read it was.... It was honestly an read that ended with the biggest SMILE on my face, no word of a lie the words, the feelings and how Finn loved his girl just got better, and more intense the more I read. So I apologise if this review is slightly over the emotional side cause it was perfect in all the ways I thrive in when I pick Sports Romance up.

So what's it about?
This book is about LOVE as the core of this story. I don't really know how to review this so I'm going to keep it simple. This is the reason why I love Kristen she story tells and pulls you into her world. Grabs hold of you until you finish. So what starts as a friends to lovers Romance leads to a more intense read. It's develops and you really see how much Finn loved Chester. But a little on the story, I'll say Finn is the quarterback to his team, a leader in his craft and that is easy for him, he knows how to lead. Yet what he finds hard is the emotional side of it all, that maybe just maybe he wants to be loved. Have something for him.

Chester is a professional photographer and the way they meet is 'ahem' intense and friendly, caring and sensual at the same time. Chester kind of makes Finn feel more at ease in their surroundings and that leads to a friendship and then the all the rest is history as they say.

I want you ALL to enjoy this read the way I have so I'm going to leave it there, just know this book is beautiful, arousing, deep. It gave me those butterfly feelings I love so much to feel when reading and MORE. It's PERRRFECCT omg I just felt LOVE AND LOVED by them. It kind of cocoons your every pore. There is no other way to explain it, the way Finn loved Chester and Chester- Finn makes me teary eyed.

So yeh that is all.. READ IT!

Enjoy Xo

Chester Copperpot!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: ☹️🙃☺️😍
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Chess Copper - she is a successful photographer whose next job is to take pictures for a New Orleans NFL nude calendar. She feels she has been apathetic to the other sex lately based on years of dating crappy men. She was a design major who started doing fashion photography for her college roommate who was a fashion major and her career took off from there, but took the NFL job because it was high profile and they asked for her specifically.

The Hero: Finn Mannus - He is an NFL Quarterback for New Orleans and a player in every sense of the word with a big fear of commitment. He is surprised to find out the photo shoot he and his team are sent to is for a nude calendar, so he makes his feelings known to the photographer, who immediately thinks he is a jerk. Though is surprised to find out how attracted he is to Chess, despite the fact she is not his usual type.

The Story: The relationship between Mannus and Chess is acrimonious from the start. They are attracted to each other from the start. Though Chess is disturbed by the fact that she is attracted to the annoying guy and she soon has to take naked pictures of him. Yet she is determined not to be distracted by a mouthy quarterback.

I liked that Finn showed some vulnerability early on which broke his tough, mouthy exterior for both Chess and the reader. It made him more real and approachable. Though Chess still feels that in a world full of men that are bad bets, he would come in at the top. When Chess and Finn coincidently meet up in the next few days, they decide to try a date.

I love sports romance and this had a good storyline. Though it did have some of my pet peeves. Like the fact that Mannus’s first thought about Chess is that she wasn’t beautiful. I hate that, since he was attracted to her from the start. I think attraction can make anyone beautiful to the eye of the beholder so outright saying she wasn’t beautiful wasn’t necessary to the story.

Though I have to say I love how protective Finn gets at one point in the story and how he takes charge and takes care of Chess. I am all for an independent woman, I am one myself, though I am a total sucker for a man who will step in and take care of a woman in need, without any ulterior motives. It is nice to see and I wish I could find a man like that.

The story is told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Teddy Hamilton and Grace Grant. I love Teddy Hamilton’s voice and style and will listen to just about anything he narrates. I wasn’t as fond of Grace Grant’s voice, it is loud and clear, and just a tiny bit annoying to me. Though overall she does a good job.

Loved the first half of the book, the last half was a mess with the OW drama and separation and the push and pull.
I was so frustrated by the last half of the book, I might have pulled out chunks of my hair out.
I love Kristen Callihan, love love her, but this book is one of her weaker works in my opinion.

Click. Click. Click. Snap.Snap. Snap. Do you hear the sounds of the camera clicking and snapping away as we await to see the final picture as it develops? Well, no need to wait because I am here to tell you that Kristen Callihan has captured and developed one of most breathtakingly honest and raw love story in The Hot Shot.

photo dd265ee39a2e31a7e7556b3adb3fe1_zpsvk5pg0nq.gif One day, Chess, you’re going to feel safe enough to let go. And I’m going to be there to catch you when you fall.”

There are no right words to describe this book. The Hot Shot is one of those reads that sucks you in immediately. I found myself getting consumed with Callihan’s sharp, raw, and vivid prose. The writing itself was absolutely stunning. Each emotion was captured perfectly. Facets of vulnerability, truth and love were being poured onto a literary masterpiece. They say a picture can capture a thousand words. And let me tell you, Callihan did just that and more as the essence of love and friendship spoke volumes in this book.

#HotShot

One meeting was all it took for Chess and Finn to feel the spark. That tingle in your spine that you know that this person has an affect on you. Chess is a professional photographer and so when she is hired to photograph Finn and his teammates for a charity photo, it entails Finn and his football team to get naked. Yes, a naked photo shoot. Typically, staring at hot men and their junk should be no problem as Chess is a total professional but when it came to photographing Finn, it was different. As much as Chess tried to act cool about it, she couldn’t help but feel something.

photo dd265ee39a2e31a7e7556b3adb3fe1_zpsvk5pg0nq.gif And when I kiss Finn, I know I won’t stop there. When I kiss him, I want to consume him.”

Fast forward to a few banters between Chess and Finn, they soon find themselves easily forming a friendship. This friendship was indescribable because the bond they formed was natural, raw, and intense. For so long, Chess has been looking into the lens and capturing the lives and moments of strangers. But what happens when she finds herself as the subject. The subject of Finn’s heart.

As Finn got to see the many layers and sides to Chess, he knew instantly she was the one. The one person who would make him complete. The game changer. Yes, my fellow romance bookworm addicts, Finn is the one that you will swoon head over heels for. Hearts will be exploding as his love for Chess Copper will be felt throughout the pages.

#HotShot1

I honestly don’t want to say anymore about their relationship and connection because the very essence and joy about this book is feeling and embracing Finn’s love for Chess. Love is an easy word to spell. Four simple letters. But the definition of love is something that can’t be easily explained. But what I can tell you is that Finn’s definition of love is what every romance author and readers defines as LOVE. It’s about focusing on the good times. Capturing every moment. Developing from the negatives. And finding the right subject or in this case the right person to love. And for Chess and Finn, their love for each other just clicks.

photo dd265ee39a2e31a7e7556b3adb3fe1_zpsvk5pg0nq.gif I did not know what true joy was until Finn. Every emotion I’m capable of having amps up with him. I feel. I live. I breathe. The world is more real when he is there.”

I will say this again. Kristen Callihan is an amazing author. Her stories are unique, fresh, and palpable. As always, her stories have this magical way of making your heart melt as every facets of emotions are captured in this one book. From humor to passion, Chess and Finn’s relationship came full circle. Their picture or in this case their story developed into one beautiful, heartfelt, tangible story of real intense love of completion. So if you are looking for a book with all the FEELS, then I highly recommend you to read this book. Prepare to fall madly in love with Finn because I know he has definitely captured my heart with his devotion for Chess.
