I enjoyed this clean story. Earl Adam had l8ved in Scotland but he returned to England to take over his title. He was regarded as a brute and a savage, simply because he did not fit the accepted way of life in London. Lady Beth was a widow but she needed to remarry. When Adam advertised for a wife, she offered herself so she could escape her unhappy life. They married and it was to be a marriage of convenience and would only last one year. Gradually feelings grew between them but Beth had a secret and it threatened the growing contentment in their marriage. Would they be able to resolve this issue and find happiness or will their marriage end after one year? Read on and enjoy this well-written story.
A chaste romance between a Scottish earl, as the title says, and an aristocratic Englishwoman. As in most of Haverton's novels that I have read so far, they have a marriage of convenience. They gradually get to know each other and learn to work together for common goals. They have cruel parents, which makes them slow to trust. The Englishwoman keeps something from her husband that almost breaks them apart, but they solve their problems and get their HEA. The dialog is lively and the descriptions vivid. My only quibble is that the cover makes the hero look like Prince Harry, and I did not want to visualize him that way!
Adam Winston, the Earl of Colton had tried to escape his life for 10 years. When his legacy was threatened he knew he had to return to London and marry. In an unconventional twist he placed an advertisement for a wife. Beth Harvelle answers his ad for a wife. After explaining his needs Beth agrees to become his wife for a year. After that year they are both free to go their separate way. But is that how the year ends or would they find themselves wishing it wouldn’t end? A wonderful story with some surprise twists. A must read till the end!

A unique plot involving a man from Scotland is destined to return to London, and justify his title before another relative tries to claim it. He needs to find a wife, so he places an ad for an English bride. Beth is selected but realizes Adam needs more polishing to fit in to London. Through her efforts they become closer, and she realizes her pre-judgement of Adam being boorish was incorrect. This is another captivating story by the talented writing of Ms Haverton. I received a complimentary ARC, but I am voluntarily offering my personal opinion.
Adam and Beth were different characters as was the storyline. It was interesting although I feel like it could have been a little better, the interactions between them was a little stiff. I found the explanation for her “problem” and why her parents were so hard on her lacking. I would recommend this book it was readable.
Prepare to be swept off your literary feet by a narrative so enchanting, it'll make your bookworm heart do backflips of pure delight. The characters? They're not just characters—they're your new best friends, ready to tickle your imagination and serve up a reading experience so scrumptious, it'll leave you craving more with every turn of the page.
I enjoyed this story it was nice to see their differences in being raised and how they turned out and what they believed. Loved the characters but it dragged in some places, and he should have come back sooner the sisters should have been more involved in his life they were great characters.
An unknown heir from Scotland becomes an Earl & does all of the wrong things..and refuses to acknowledge the correct way to behave. But he must have a wife so he acquires one.. and his wife of convenience becomes one who is not!!
Very interesting read that focuses some on the difference in Scottish and English people. Adam and Beth come from very different families and neither have had a happy childhood. But when Adam runs an ad for a wife and Beth responds, their adventure only begins. I think you will enjoy this read.
The Scottish Earl by Patricia Haverton is a throwback version of romances that did not throw in intimate scenes but do portray the way real relationship should work. I found it pleasant reading.
It took Adam a while to get used to England, especially as he had inherited the title of Earl. Then he married Beth and his life changed again. This time for the better as they fell in love.
When you need to marry an English woman, what does a Scot do? Advertise for one. It is a cute story on how their relationship developed into marriage of love.
This was a great story! The characters were very interesting . The parents were atrocious to the point of unbelievable. Another excellent read because it was clean.
This was a very interesting story. I loved reading it and did not want to put it down when I had to. I’m looking forward to reading another of your books.
Yeah a different plot from the overdone ones. Loved the subtle humour nad great characters. Some of the minor characters were a little 2 dimensional but they helped make the point of the story.
