It's a Rendez-Vous

Rate this book
Ever since they got caught in the rain, the day they first met, Zoé and world-famous Everett have been inseparable. They even move to Paris, the busiest city in the world, to attend university together. Little did they know the ride they’d be on.

Navigating the tricky line between faith, friendship, and desire, Zoé grapples with the boundaries she has created that keep out a man who is lost in a carnal world. But as she pushes away, she realizes Everett may be committed to her in more ways than she first perceived.

Add to it the mixed pressure of the media, and the failing relationships that they both have with their parents, and the thought of a relationship starts to feel scarier than ever before.

Will they risk losing everything they have, stepping away from the very foundation their friendship has been built around? Or will they submit to the fears in their minds and forgo a chance at love?

guys this book was actually so cute & perfect read if you're looking for a clean, sweet, christian romance <33 it is a really slow burn so keep that in mind. also the writing may not be super flowy at the start but you get used to it. everett, everett, everett... guys he's such a cutie and 100% husband material. wdym he'd buy her something before he could ask her so she wouldn't be able to say no, and always respected her boundaries since she was a christian. he was so sweet and understanding of her, knowing what she needed and always giving her space.

𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞: 2 soft kisses, nothing more, no tongue/making out
𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: 11/12+ super clean
𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠: none
𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫: nothing

𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐭 - this follows zoe & everett as they guide through their friendship and problems they face from the public. everett is a famous singer in france, they are in paris together for college. both of them have had feelings for the other since they've met, but are scared they'll cross a line and feel like it's one-sided. so basically 2 oblivious best friends who are in love. everyone but them sees it, there's rumours from the paparazzi and they have to stop them. zoe is also trying to be a better Christian and everett is a non-believer.

𝐳𝐨𝐞 - she's a super sweet, relatable, anxious Christian girl. she's a strong believer with a good church family. sometimes I did find her super unrealistic, but everyone is different so maybe not. she had firm boundaries in place especially with her friendship with everett and letting him in too close, like they didn't go to each other's houses or avoided physical touch even in platonic ways unless it was necessary. like she didn't want to dance with someone of the opposite gender unless it was a significant other, which was fair. i liked how she always prayed before she did anything, whenever she was in doubt (which I should be doing way more) also her waiting on God, for his timing. it was written really well, and her always having feelings for everett but not wanting to do anything unless it was in God's timing. anyways i kinda hated on her too much, she's a very sweet girl with a firm foundation in God

𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐭 - your honour i love him. his character was done so well and I loved his journey in faith, esp when he started questioning the most simple things. also he wasn't exactly an atheist, but he just didn't follow a religion, maybe had things against supreme power but he wasn't opposed to the idea of a "god" like he saw the Jesus glow in zoe and knew that there was probably something real there. which is what I want others to see in me, which means I need to work on myself spiritually. growing up christian I didn't question anything and just accepted my faith, blindly up until a few years ago where I actually started growing my relationship with God. and seeing everett, who's been through many things and has childhood trauma finding the Lord, and actually growing as a person was so so precious and when he actually gave his life to Jesus, I teared up. that was such a beautiful moment in the book and I think Poppy wrote this book so well. like for a debut novel? amazingggg

𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥 - i'd definitely recommend this if you want a clean sweet romance <33 just don't judge the writing, the character development and plot are worth it.

i may add some quotes later but I didn't annotate this soo probably not 😭

Oh how I adore this book! If you are looking for a sweet Christian romance story that is so much fun i’m telling you this is the one!! It will also have you mad “ why aren’t yall getting together yet”😖 but in such a good way. this book healed the little part of me that said, men didn’t know how to love correctly like this one definitely goes with the rest of the boyfriends that have also healed up part too. 😭🫶 Oh how I LOVE Everett 🥹 He is so precious and I hope one day I got a man like him. he’s so well written, and portrayed. I love how he loved Zoé enough to respect her beliefs, but I think, even if he didn’t know Zoé, he would still respect the beliefs of others because that’s just who he is!! then that leading him to God, it is so beautiful and shout out to Poppy at for writing this so beautifully and making the story not seem forced and writing Everett‘s character, so sweet and so pure🥹 I LOVE Zoé!!! she’s so darling, precious, sweet, and so pure everything that you would expect in a woman of God Zoé has. she stands firm and what she believes in and she doesn’t let a boy or anybody else make her go against that, and she always sticks with God, even when it gets hard!!! that right there is so beautiful such a good story such a good testimony and I love it. I love how she is just so strong in her faith💗 honestly, one of my favorite reads and I can’t wait for everyone to read the story and get to experience this beautiful couple and beautiful love story💗💗 Thank you Poppy for giving me the ARC and letting me be apart of this story 🫶🥹

This is a YA book, but I’m almost 40 and I loved it! So I would highly recommend it, even to adults.

I can see how much hard work and effort has gone into this book, it shows 👏

Review #1: for those deciding whether to buy or not. NO SPOILERS
I definitely recommend buying this and giving it a read. I loved the way Leanne wrote about church community and friendships. That was one of my FAVORITE parts of the book. Although the fmc is a little predictable (the clumsy but in a cute way stereotype), her love for God makes me appreciate her for who she is.
The mmc is an honest, respectful and loving MAN. His arc really captivated me. It was really interesting to read about (I can’t say about what because of spoilers sooo…) To wrap up my opinion on Everett: I want him.
I really enjoyed certain similes and metaphors used in this book. The book was very… creative (?) What I mean is that there’s a quirkiness to Leanne’s writing. But, because of this, sometimes the writing felt too informal and a little cringe. I like fancy writing and am very critical about that, but that’s just me. People who don’t read and enjoy as many classics as I do may love this. .
Overall this book was a 4 star read for me, I cannot wait to read about project “Berry” which Ms Leanne keeps us waiting for over on her instagram.

Review #2: for those who read the book. SOME SPOILERS
something that I actually didn’t like about this book was that I feel like Zoé made a lot of mistakes in having the friendship that she had with Everett. A lot of times I found myself actually angry at her because she just kind of strung Everett along. And even after that one scene when he tells her to dance with him and she doesn’t, she still calls him “Every” and treats him all cute and stuff. (I’m not saying “stop being friends with unbelievers” because we need to show them love (of course) What I am saying is:) although I understand that she really liked him, she needed to distance herself even more. Were this to occur in real life, I believe that there’s a big possibility that if Everett would’ve liked Zoé back immediately, the real life Everett could easily just say “ I’m a Christian now” just so that he could be with Zoé. (I know that Everett isn’t like that … that’s why we love him but… A real life man could be another story.) I think it creates a dangerous pretense.
But, of course, I understand that this is fiction.
I will shut up now.

I'd like to add that I had some contact with the author, and she was actually one of the kindest people I've ever spoken to
I was neither paid to give this review or was
sent the book without charge.
And, none of this information is going to influence the love and criticism I have for It’s a Rendez-Vous.

xoxo 💋

Have you ever been in a complicated friendship that you wished was more?
Zoe and Everett are two best friends studying literature in Paris. But while Zoe loves Jesus and wants to be more like her Saviour, Everett is a famous singer who is still searching for the truth. These two young people learn that while friendship is a good basis for a relationship, it's important to have the same eternal values too.
Zoe is such a sweet girl and I loved her strength of character throughout the book. Everett's journey to salvation is slow and Poppy cleverly included some great questions in his search for truth. I also appreciated how church, Scripture and prayer were woven throughout.
What a beautiful story about how two souls have been Divinely intertwined and how they will discover that sometimes God's plan is not as straightforward as we like. It is often through many tears and prayers that a lost soul is found and brought into glorious light!
It's a Rendez-Vous will tug at your heart strings and speak to your soul!

Content guide:
Language - gosh x4, crikey, crappy, crap, darn

Sexual content - some barely detailed handholding
- couple barely detailed kisses
- multiple la bise/cheek kisses (used as a greeting, not romantic)

This book is such a hidden gem! I found this on instagram looking for good clean romances, and this one was set apart cause it was Christian based which I loved. Everett's growing faith and character development was awesome. It was amazing seeing him not be following God for Zoe and instead for himself. My absolute favorite aspect of Everett was the fact he GREW FLOWERS (specifically TULIPS THAT WERE HER FAV) for her. Makes me realize that God has someone out there for me that will make me happy like that. Overall, great book, wish she'll write another one soon!!

5 ⭐️ This book was so cute and perfect for the Christian girlies. Everett was amazing and his character development was so good. I will say some parts were a little confusing but I still loved this book. I also loved how relatable Zoé was. She wasn't a perfect Christian and neither am I but she stood strong in her beliefs and she knew that God loved her no matter what. 🥰

When I tell you that it has been a STRUGGLE to find good Christian fiction let alone ROMANCE that's actually good???? It's been insanity and quite frustrating. But PRAISE GOD FOR POPPY BECAUSE SHE ATE WITH THIS ONE <3 I don't even know what to say. I could never verbalize the Christian book I've been wanting to see and read, and yet this book embodied exactly what I have been wanting to see. And not only that, it felt REAL. As in real characters, real imperfection, and (my fav lol) real God. I wish the book went on forever. I have literally not been so calm reading a book in idek how long. Well, calm but also freaking out with excitement and having fun. That sort of thing. So Poppy, I have no idea if you will ever see this, but if you do, just know that I am so grateful for you. You have been such a blessing to me and I bet countless others too. Keep writing because we are here for you. You have such an amazing gift. DONT STOP; KEEP GOING!!!!!! Thank you writing a book that made my love for reading and God meet. I hope you get your favorite flowers today, and I hope God blesses you in every way. (Sorry for the yapping I just finished the book and am up late even though I told myself I would go to bed early Im hyped lol). So anyways, if perchance, you are not Poppy, which is more likely the case, and have not read this book, WHAT. ARE. YOU. WAITING. FOR?????? GO BUY IT!!!! That is all. Farewell :)

Poppy Leanne’s It’s a Rendezvous was a page turning, slow-burn, friends-to-lovers romance. Zoé and Everett are long standing friends, who met through divine intervention. This friendship is all they’ve ever been comfortable with, but as they both journey through faith, they start to wish for more than just friendship.
This novel was beautifully written, with God being at the centre of it all, including emotion that left a lasting impact. Poppy weaves faith into every chapter in a way that feels natural and powerful, reminding myself of the beauty in His divine timing.
The characters are deeply real and relatable, causing me to genuinely care about their journeys. Their growth, struggles, and trust in God made the story both emotional and inspiring.

Poppy’s novel is a heartfelt reminder that one’s outward beauty and appearance isn’t what God uses, it’s our willingness to listen and obey. This tender and faith-filled read is suited for long-time and new Christians alike, even non-believers would find this story a rewarding read. I’ll be thinking about this book for a long time to come, and highly recommend. God has given Poppy Leanne a gift for writing, and I’m so excited to see what comes next!

2.5

i was very disappointed by this book.

I was even reading reviews on this and were was a lot of 5 stars and I was just thinking to myself how am I the only person here who didn't think it was that good? but I guess it's just my personal opinion. I was really excited for it.

the first thing that bothered me, but overall this is one of my personal icks in books, is that the french and english was Mixed in sentences like one random word french and the rest English. no one actually talks like that unless you can't think of the word in one language and like this was there throughout the whole book and it bothered me so much 😭

another thing was that there was so much written in italics it was like 3 sentences in italics every page and that was just too much. it doesn't need to be in italics every time they speak a different language.

one more thing, that Everett and Zoé got engaged after just one year was kinda eugh.

the ending was really sweet though and I was also gonna address that this book isn't really that realistic cuz the characters seem too perfect (example: when Everett went to buy that C.S. Lewis book that Zoé recommended to him and of course he bought it second hand, making him this overly perfect character and you can't always get everything second hand.)

Oh my gosh!! This was probably the sweetest book I’ve ever read!! I loved every moment of reading this.
The characters were perfection. I absolutely loved Everett and all the little things he would do for Zoe. Like the tulips!! The redemption story was so sweet and very realistic in the way it was written.
My only complaint would be when they would speak in French it wasn’t really explained what was said. This didn’t really bother me though because the book more than made up for it in the storytelling.
I would ten out of ten recommend this to any Christian girl looking for a sweet faith filled romance!!
No spice ( obviously☺️)
No language

My first ever Christian romance. This book is a MUST! It was so cute. I'm usually not a fan of slow-burn books, but with this one, I couldn't get enough. I was constantly giggling and kicking my feet. When I read the last one hundred pages, I was doing happy dances every five minutes. This book made me so happy. I also don't annotate my books because I never find the need to, but this book is LOADED with tabs. I might have to buy a second copy just to have a copy without tabs, honestly. I hope someone else enjoys this book as much as I did. It's a fantastic read.

This book is incredible!!! I would encourage every Christian teenage girl to read it. It brings faith and relationships together so naturally and beautifully. I have never read a book like this, it gives me so much hope for this dark world. The characters are so lovable and relatable: I honeslty wish I could read the books they write and hear the songs they write and sing. LOVED IT.

This book was amazing! I loved the romance and chemistry between everett and zoe. Everett was great, I loved how protective he was, and he was just so great. The christian aspects in it were amazing. I got so much meaning out of it. I loved seeing Everett’s journey to becoming christian. Zoe was a great christian but still had her battles, she was so relatable and was a great character. This book was great and you should definitely read it.
