If this is a rescue, it sucks.

Bartholomew

After two years of captivity, I’ve been “rescued” by another alien. But the supposed rescue quickly goes south when we crash on an icy planet. Freezing and in a broken shuttle, I have to work with this alien to survive. But as Mindy keeps smiling at me and moving closer and closer, I can’t help but wonder if this isn’t as horrible as I thought.

Serlotminden

My plan to rescue the captive human didn’t quite work, but it’ll be fine. My brothers will find us. Until then, I will protect him. But the longer we spend together, the more I want to touch him and make him laugh. It’s only natural, right? It’s because we’re friends, though why does that thought bother me?

This is a spicy stand-alone MM romance in the Cosmic Romance series. It’s a sci-fi romance on an icy planet with a serious human, an easy-going alien, MCs who save each other, and a happily ever after. This book is for adult audiences only and has explicit content. Content warning inside.

TLDR: i may be cringe but i am free

thoughts n feelings:
- ok something weird I keep noticing about all the books in this series is the author will often have the narrator repeat something they've said in their internal monologue earlier in the book almost verbatim. I can't tell if it's in an effort to reiterate the information or if they've genuinely just forgotten they already said it earlier. but it happens in all 3 of the books and it just kind of pads the pages and gets boring.
- this author is decent at writing main characters that act and feel different (which is a challenge!!) although all 3 of the human boys have used the word "hella" in their internal monologue and.....it's a no from me baby
- I REALLY liked this couple together even though I was certain Serlotminden would be my least favorite of the 3 so far - i KNEW book 4 was gonna be abt Vince/Don and I am....incredibly psyched. despite how much I'm nitpicking these books I am having a great time regardless.
- I did not love how much of this book was set in one particular place, although the pace of their relationship seemed appropriate there was just a lot of like....extra stuff that didn't add very much to the story in my opinion ( )
- DEMISEXUAL REP????????????? PRAISE
- in each of the books this author focuses on a specific mental health struggle and does it really really well. there's also themes of guilt/survivor's guilt, forgiving yourself, grief, overcoming fear of abandonment, etc, and I loved how it was done.
- why are we using the word "butt" in adult romance novels? I'm sorry but if we're saying "butt" during sex it just sounds wildly juvenile to me and it took me out of the story every single time (over 30 times to be exact)
- to the author I would like to say: sweet angel. dear heart. these names are really bad. Mindy as a nickname for Serlotminden is diabolical, and so is naming your main character BARTHOLOMEW (I know it was mostly done bc the alien species' culture says the longer the name the higher class you are so they think he's royalty and YES it's silly and fun and YES he has a cute nickname of Teddy but they're using Bartholomew so often.......we're shouting Bartholomew during sex? ok I guess).
- this series is so very consent-focused and I love that very much
- ps this is listed as a standalone but I really don't think you'll get as much out of it if you don't read the others. this one is the spiciest one out of all of them tho despite being slow burn as well

Love this stranded alien romance!

I was eagerly waiting for this book after the little snippet at the end of Cosmic Soul and it didn’t disappoint! I just love Teddy (Bartholomew) and Mindy (Serlotminden) to pieces and their romance was so adorable.

This book feels spicier than the last one but it does still take them awhile to get together. I loved seeing their romance develop as they attempt to survive stranded on a frozen planet, waiting for help that will hopefully come.

I love a good grumpy/sunshine trope (one of my faves), but I feel like this is a new twist, more like apathy/sunshine. Teddy was just apathetic about everything, that seeing him open up and begin to love sunshiney Mindy was beautiful.

The mental health rep was again wonderful. I love how this series showcases so many different types of people and honestly more types of intimacy rather than just penetration. I can’t quite find anything else like these books, and I love them, so I’m so glad MQ wrote them!

There were so many swoony things that I just can’t list them all. But I freaking loved this book and I cannot wait for Vince’s next. And please, let Wyn and Monty get together!!!

terrific story and great characters

Rating: 4.5🌈

Cosmic Castsway is the third book in Mars Quinn’s Cosmic Romance series about a family of alien brothers and the abducted human beings who end up as their fated mates.

Quinn’s been able to create very diverse characters and layered backgrounds for each of the novels even within the same framework. Every human, while having been abducted, has had a very unique experience to go along with their story. And each human has their own distinctive traits, some with accompanying disorders or others (Caleb was a ghost then had to deal with body dysfunction), that figured gradually into the narrative. As did the struggles of their alien mate counterparts.

Bartholomew is among a huge number of humans abducted and sold as slaves by illegal alien marketers. His life as a slave has been one of barely surviving amidst daily violence and terror. Until he’s seen, and kidnapped by a huge alien who says he’s saving him as he’s carted off world again.

Serlotminden aka Mindy is the middle brother and the most impulsive of the five. He’s just gone to a shady corner of the universe and spotted humans where they shouldn’t be any. So he decides to rescue one.

The result doesn’t go as planned.

Quinn does a great job in creating multiple worlds, complete with detailed flora and fauna, ferocious ones. A stumbling romance, that has the characters learning about each other’s lives and their own experiences. Which, in Bartholomew’s case, means the trauma of his recent enslavement and the survivors guilt he carries.

Mindy and Bart’s story is well worth reading. It’s got an extra twist in it regarding another human slave Bart was living with before Mindy saved/kidnapped him.

Cosmic Soul is still my favorite but I love seeing how all the couples are doing together and progressing in their lives.

Highly recommended!

Forced Proximity Done Well

This book was so interesting in that the majority of it takes place on a foreign planet with zero of the cast that we’ve come to know through the previous books. Our two MMCs are crash landed on an alien planet and forced to mostly stay inside due to healing and bad weather. The book should be boring in its limited cast and setting but somehow this book just worked.

Teddy was fun to read, he obviously was dealing with a lot of trauma but I really enjoyed his humor and how he slowly opened up more and more and became much more brave and confident.

Their romance was also really cute to read. They have such different personalities but the author does such a good job in these books showing how the characters genuinely fit well together and why they are believable as mates.

The “drama” in this book was done SO well. I was honestly shocked when everything was happening but the dual POV chapters were so crucial in keeping me calm enough to keep reading. All I’ll say is that the way these MMCs get off the planet they crash landed on is intense in the best of ways!!

This book easily could have gotten four stars but I have to admit after thoroughly enjoying the chapters of the book where these two were stranded on an alien planet all alone, the chapters with the “full cast” were really boring for me. And after all of that buildup, when Teddy is reunited with one of his friends, I was kinda pissed at how that whole thing went down.

I’m curious about the next book but the introduction to one of our next MMCs was not a good start for me.

Tropes: Forced Proximity, Black Cat / Golden Retriever, Opposites Attract, Trauma / Mental Health, First Times

I absolutely get lost and so invested in these Drakcol brothers and this series! So much so, in fact, that when I tried switching to an audiobook (multi-tasking for the win), I'd barely get through one whole chapter before Mindy and Teddy beckoned me back to share their story. There was so much going on around these two, much less between them, it's no wonder they glommed onto one another, supporting, protecting, learning one another all the while. The author made me cry! This story has such emotional depth; at one point - maybe more than one? - I was devastated, shocked, heartbroken for them. I was somewhat disappointed at seeing so little of the other mate-brothers & brothers, but I got more than I expected before book's end, so I'm a happy reader. One thing I adore about each of these stories, thus far, is: the relationships each evolve and develop completely organically - maybe not quite in Seth & Kal's case, but still) There's no forcing jagged edges to fit into smooth lines. The character development is well done; very relatable, realistic, layered & flawed, they make me feel for them. The various aliens, pets, abilities and friends is also very cool to discover each time. Looking forward to more!

Not as good as the first book, but better than the second. Bart has had a shitty last few years. He was kidnapped because of the new every alien has to have a human fad and he ends up as basically a blood and bodily fluid cleaner at a fight club in the outer edges of the universe. Mindy gets invited to said fight club but becomes horrified when he discovers a human, Bart, being held against his will and kidnaps him to set him free. Nothing Mindy plans ever goes the way he wants it to and the escape to freedom becomes a crash landing on an even more alien, and unfortunately not deserted, planet.

I liked the chemistry between Mindy and Bart. It wasn't quite instalove which was nice. And I liked how Bart was depicted as strong, for a human, and how he took care of Mindy when the alien needed it. All in all a decent read.

Serlotminden and Bartholomew's story. For two years Bartholomew spent his time as a slave to a fighting ring after his obduction. By chance Serlotminden sees him and "abducts" him again, trying to save him. They end up crashing on an icy planet and must wait for rescue. They are stranded for several weeks and get to know each other. Slowly they fall in love and are rescued. This was an enjoyable read with lots of heart. Serlotminden had to work to woo Bartholomew's affections, something he wasn't used to and because of that, they built a strong foundation. Spice level: 3

There's Someone for Everyone

Bartholomew has lived the past two years as slave labor in a gladiator arena cleaning up the filth and death. He has a friend named Vince who works with him. Life is hell and one day bleeds into another.
Serlotminden leads an enchanted life as a prince, a diplomat, and a popular race pilot. And he's drop dead gorgeous. He has it all but a life mate.
On a trip to a gaming planet Serlotminden sees Bartholomew, a human, and rescues him. They crash on an ice planet and fight injury and aliens to survive.
Bartholomew suffers from survivors guilt. Serlotminden suffers from middle child syndrome. Together they heal eachother.

Cosmic Castaway is the third book in the Cosmic Romance series. I have to say that I love this series.
We continue with the siblings, in this case with Ser/Mindy, a ray of sunshine and optimism.
It mixes the tropes of survival and forced proximity.

Mindy/Ser “frees” a human, Bartholomew/Teddy, from slavery. During their escape, they have an accident and crash on an icy planet. Ser is injured, and Teddy doesn't even know why he is there or where he is. There is some miscommunication during the first half of the book.

I like their love story, and since I was already reading, I read the fourth book as well.

If you love cuddles and snuggles, this is the book for you. Same as with the first one, there's the adorable yet hysterically possesive alien prince who falls for a scrawny, unremarkable human.
The story mostly happens in one place as they are stranded on some alien planet. There aren't many adventures, although they stumble upon a hostile alien or two.
The plot is kind of thin and stretched over an insurmountable number of pages.
Weirdly, I think I'm going to read the next one as well.

This could have been so much better. While I love Mindy and Teddy… I was really missing the rest of the family. They spent entirely too much time stranded on that dang planet. At first, I enjoyed the change of scenery, the ‘what-if’ of it all and the new creatures. After a while though, it just got really really boring. Once they’re finally rescued, too much got shoved into such a small portion of the story.

This was my least favorite of the series so far, but I did enjoy it. The first half seemed very repetitive and not much was going on. Bartholomew was a difficult character to get a read on, but I did eventually end up liking him a lot. Serlotminden was the perfect golden retriever, and this was a satisfying story for him.
I’m super excited for the next one!

While this claims to be a stand-alone, I think you'll get more out of it if you read the series in order. I read this first, and now that I've finished book 2, I feel like I'll need to reread it despite it being less than a week since I first picked it up.

Side note: I adore the pet in this book.

Up to the 40% mark this book was absolutely gold. I guess after this point Mindy and Teddy got together and it became boring and repetitive. I didn’t feel invested in them and there were some good parts but overall it failed to hold my interest like the first half of the book did.

Additionally I absolutely loathe Seth. I don’t even want to start his book so that’s not a good start.

A bit darker

This book deals with a bit darker subject matter. Not in depth, but still there. Overall, still a great book in this series. Best read in order starting with Cosmic Husband.

The story was good despite the fact that I don't really like stranded on a deserted planet stories. What sold it for me was the two Mcs. I thought they suited each other. Overall, it was a good addition to the series.

I love this series so much. This was interesting because much of it was spent away from the array of great secondary characters that have been introduced so far, and as a reader I brought more knowledge of the family unit than was really given on page.

Equal parts survival drama and slow-burn romance, this one brings the icy tension-both emotional and environmental. Bartholomew’s trauma and guarded demeanor clash beautifully with Mindy’s sunny optimism and boundless curiosity. Their forced proximity and mutual reliance create an intimacy that grows into something tender and real. The humor is light, the emotional beats land well, and the frozen setting makes their growing warmth all the more poignant. It’s about trust, resilience, and love blooming in the harshest of places-literally and figuratively.
