Flash 50 features an eclectic mix of 50 finely crafted, very short stories. Fifty unique takes on life and the human condition. Each is sure to captivate, move and nourish.
Another excellent dip-in read from Don Tassone, the master of dip-in reading. His fiction might be quiet, but it packs a punch. As his stories finish, the reader is usually left with a ‘did I just read that?’ sense; there’s always more to them than there seems at first. Even the structure of this latest collection – split into three sections, Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow – is subtly significant. So Red, in Yesterday, looks back on a life and lessons learned; Today’s Dinosaur provides a wry commentary on contemporary life; and Tomorrow’s Save Yourself offers a glimpse into a possible future Tassone sees ahead. They’re not lectures, though, and the future according to Tassone remains – largely – hopeful.
The stories are short, and the overall volume is short, so the reader never tires. One thing: I do wish there was an audiobook of these works of Tassone’s. He’s got a great ‘reading’ voice, which I heard once on radio.
