Evelyn McCarthy did not expect a call from ranch owner Brant Kaspen after nearly a decade, the same man she loved who had stood her up back in high school. He chose the family ranch over her and hadn’t spoken to her since that lonely prom night. But now, he needs her help.
After a decade away from home, traveling abroad to bring books to underprivileged children and to help them learn to read and write, Evelyn’s extension program has run out of funds. During a pit stop in Ireland to visit her sister on her way back to the states, Evelyn gets a message from long-silent Brant.
Now in charge of the Bramblin’ Family Ranch and a fatherly figure to his young nephew, Brant needs the help of someone he can trust. His nephew is struggling in school, and everyone else has given up on him.
Evelyn can’t turn down the chance to help a child in need and meet up with a few old friends, so she returns to her rustic hometown for a temporary stay at Brant’s family ranch in Colorado. But her boss at the city learning center wants to know when she’ll be back. And her boyfriend, Josiah, is eager to see her again.
The moment she leaves, Brant’s nephew seems to forget all of his lessons and slips back into his silent, shy self, leading Evelyn to make repeat visits to the ranch. It isn’t easy to be around Brant, the one who stole and broke her heart as a teen.
An autumn frost hits the ranch hard, making each trip more dangerous the closer they get to Christmas. When Eve finds herself stuck at the ranch, secrets come out from her family, Josiah, and Brant that will change her future forever.
Will she spend a Christmas with Brant and his nephew on the ranch and be able to confront the truth about why Brant stood her up? Or will Evelyn find herself running as far as she can in the opposite direction?
A clean and wholesome small-town, western, holiday romance.
A Rancher’s Christmas Gift is an emotional, funny, and heartwarming story of a popular high school couple that something happened to on prom night in Hope Hollow and they have been apart for the last decade. Brant is now running the ranch that his parents built up and ran. He also helps just about everybody in town in one way or another. Not the young boy she was in love with in high school. And Eve has not been sitting on her laurels all these years. She has been working on taking education to foreign counties. She still has the heart of gold but is way more independent than the high school Eve. And Brant has straightened out his best friend Billy from the drinking he fell into in high school and after to make him another cowboy that he depends on to help run the ranch. The Brant and Billy Eve meets is trying to take care of the newest house member Nickolas, Brant’s nephew.
Brant’s sister Grace dies and since she never really told who the daddy was Nickolas had no where to go except to Brant and his parent’s ranch. Shortly after he lost Grace, his mother and then his mean daddy all passed. His brother didn’t want anything to do with his parents and the ranch and that leaves just Brant to takeover the ranch. But his friend Billy stayed by his side and has been helping with Nickolas but the little boy is having trouble getting over the trauma he has suffered. He doesn’t talk and has stopped eating. The teacher says he is withdrawing from everyone and suggests maybe home schooling him for a year. That is when Billy tells Brant to call Eve or he will. They both knew that the little boy needed Eve’s help to learn what he needs and especially to get him to talk and eat. She came for a couple of days but thanks to a snowstorm and a crashed on the highway she couldn’t go home. She couldn’t believe when Brant knocked on her window and shows Billy pulling people so they can turn around and go back to town as they are not going to be able to open the highway. She had formed such a bond with little Nickolas that when she left he stopped eating and crying most of the day in his bed. It got so bad Brant took him to the doctor and he called Eve and begged her to come back on a day when her whole world in Denver crumbled. She agrees but now Billy is trying to date Eve while Brant has never stopped loving her and wants her back. Is she going to take Brant back after he tells her why he didn’t show up for senior prom that broke them apart?
Brant Kaspen is now in charge of the Bramblin’ Family Ranch. He needs Evelyn McCarthy’s help. She has not heard from Brant since he stood her up in high school on the night of the Senior Prom. 10 years ago, instead of taking Eve to the prom, he left and disappeared. There was more to Brant’s past that he needed to tell Eve.
Evelyn is in Ireland visiting her younger sister Patricia and her husband Cian and their son Daire. Eve travels the world to impoverished countries to help children learn basic reading and writing skills and to take them new books. She basically does humanitarian work. While in Ireland, Eve receives a call from Brant.
Brant’s sister Grace died leaving Brant to take care of her son, Nicholas. Nicholas is in first grade but will be held back if he does not start talking, reading and writing at the first grade level. Eve grew up with Brant and Grace in Hope’s Hollow. Right now, Eve’s home base is Denver which is 7.5 hours from Hope’s Hollow. Eve agrees to help Nicholas. When she arrives in Hope’s Hollow, she stops to have coffee with her two best friends, Georgia and Jackie. Growing up, Eve, her sister and mom lived with their Uncle Damien, who was a police officer. Eve bumps into Uncle Damien, who is now retired. He tells her to not be so hard on Brant when she goes to the ranch.
Brant and Eve both had to deal with their past while helping Nicholas and making him the focus. I received this book as an ARC copy and fell in love with the characters.
A Rancher's Christmas Gift is a well written book about a second chance, heartwarming story of two people who fell in love at school, but through parental interference, they were torn apart.
Ten years later, Brant is the guardian of his sister's son, Nicholas, who is only 6 years old, has withdrawn into himself from grief. His mother died, and a father who abandoned them, are gone, and Brant has stepped up to care for his nephew.
Evelyn (Eve) since the night of the Prom when Brant stood her up has been traveling abroad, dedicating her life to teaching children in poor countries and opening their minds to literacy.
She is in Ireland visiting her sister when Brant calls and persuades her to come to the ranch and assess Nicholas. Her life is now in Denver about a 7 and a half hour drive away from Hope's Hollow. She goes to the ranch but tries to avoid Brant as she is still upset, but Brant is still in love with Eve and through the guilt in leaving her has trouble expressing himself.
Our beautiful couple navigate the pitfalls of love while helping Nicholas gain confidence in himself. I'll leave it there for you to read and make your own decision on this delightful book with wonderful characters.
I received an ARC copy from the author and voluntarily leave this honest review.
Is a sweet small town, second chance, western, Christmas romance with no cliffhanger. Some of the lines I really like --- “Everywhere is home as long as we know we are loved. And true family loves, no matter the distance.” --- “You know, I struggle to rein it in when it comes to sweets.” --- “We are not friends. Friends don’t abandon each other. Friends talk.” -- --- "Experiences give the gift of memories, of knowledge, things that can last forever. Chocolate is…” --- "Wishing doesn’t change anything. Action does." --- "the only time we fail is when we give up. So as long as you’re trying, that’s what matters.” --- “But you have to learn to slow down, rest, and enjoy life. Otherwise, it will be gone before you’re ready.” --- “A person’s worth is not tied up in how much money they have or don’t,” -- “It’s okay to want things for yourself. You can’t help others if you have nothing left to give.” --- “But do you know what the best gift is that anyone can give or get? A hug and the love that comes with it.” --- -- I loved Nicholas an adorable 6 year old who is slowly coming out of his shell. What's Billy up to? What's Josiah up to? What does Uncle Damen know? What's Killian up to? I loved Evelyn and Brant's story and I'm sure you will too. I've loved everyone of her books that I've read and can't wait to read her next book.
Brant needs Eve's help, but is not sure if she will even talk to him. Ten years ago, he stood her up for senior prom and hasn't spoken to her since. Hurt and wanting to escape, Eve has spent the last ten years traveling the world to bring books to underprivileged children and teaching them reading and writing. Brant has taken over the family ranch and has recently become guardian of his six year old nephew. The young boy has been struggling both in and out of school since his mother died, and Eve is the only person left that Brant feels could help. Pushed by his best friend, Billy, he finally reaches out to her. When she agrees to come and help, Brant discovers that he has to find a way to explain what happened and to win back the girl he never stopped loving. Eve has to decide how to proceed when secrets about her boyfriend, job, and family emerge. Will it lead her back to Hope's Hollow, or will she feel compelled to leave again? A great setting , interesting story, and likable characters made this a very enjoyable book. I received an arc copy of this book, and this is my freely offered and honest opinion.
This was a sweet second chance story about a man seeking redemption. With the woman he had loved from school days, the one he never felt he deserved. From the town, for being his father's son and for all the pain his father had caused the community. From his young nephew, for the loss of his mother, Brant's sister. I loved how Eve was so very dedicated to her job for the past decade -- more of a "calling", to be honest -- to open children's minds to the power of literacy. She even took personal time at the holidays to try to help the nephew of the man who broke her heart in high school cope with the loss of his mother. It is a long, and quite frequently painful, road to healing and reconciliation for Eve, Brant and Nicholas as they learn that Love is the best Christmas gift of all.
I received a free advance copy of this story from the author via BookFunnel and voluntarily chose to share my review.
Brant has the challenge of providing for his (for all intents and purposes) orphaned nephew while still trying to run a productive ranch. He's thrown himself into work for so long, he doesn't know how else to live.
Eve has been running from her grief by pouring out her life for others, particularly children in disadvantaged environments when she gets the SOS call from her ex. "For the child," is her mantra which we get the privilege of watching it morph and grow as she learns more about her current boyfriend and the murky past around their decade-old breakup becomes clear.
The genuine desire to help others, revealed in greater detail as the story progresses, is refreshing.
This was another well written emotional story by Elysia Strife that kept me flipping the pages as I'd read. The characters: Evelyn, Brant, and Nicholas were engaging and likable. This warm feel-good story is set around Christmas time as Evelyn who been traveling abroad helping underprivileged children to read and write returns back home to help Brant her old flame who hurt her by leaving her on prom night. Brant been taking care of his nephew Nicholas who's been acting disengaged and having a hard time learning in school after the death of his mother. So, when Evelyn comes back into his life to help Nicholas is this Brant's chance to win Evelyn heart again? This was an enjoyable clean romance that I'd received a copy and volunteer to read and review.
I loved this heartwarming second chance romance for Brant and Evelyn. They were high school sweethearts until Brant never showed up to take her to their prom and left with no explanation. Now a decade later, Brant calls Evelyn asking her to help him with his nephew, Nicholas, who he became the Guardian for after his sister died and the father is unknown. Evelyn had been working for a nonprofit as a teacher for underprivileged children in other countries. When she agrees to help, she realizes how much she missed her hometown and friends she had left behind. I liked the characters. Will Evelyn and Brant overcome what happened in the past to have a future together? You will have to read the book to find out. I highly recommend this clean romance. This is my voluntary and honest review.
This is a nice feel-good romance. Eve is very talented with kids and has a big heart. Brant is doing great things for his community but needs a kick up the bum to be honest with Eve about his feelings after breaking her heart years ago. It started getting a little frustrating for me just over half way and started being a bit too unrealistic for me to still be as engaged. I also didn't buy the reason Brant deserted Eve so wasn't invested in him. Billy was a better character and Eve's contradictory judgement of him made me begin to dislike her and was then just ready for the book to finish. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
I liked the characters in this book. Brant was the guardian of his nephew Nicholas, who was struggling after his mom died. His nephew wasn't eating or talking so Brant needed to call his ex, high school girlfriend, Eve for help. This story was sweet, romantic, and really showed the kind of man Brant was and how he was not like his father. I really liked the ending of the book and how "spending time together and being grateful for what we already have" is more important than any gifts one receives for Christmas. Brant's family and his ranch family were the most important things to him. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review,
I really enjoyed this book. Brant had custody of his sister's six-year-old son, after she died. He wasn't doing good in school or at home. Brant tried everything that had been suggested to help his nephew, but nothing seemed to work. He thought of one person who might be able to help Nicholas. That was his ex-girlfriend, whose heart he had broken years ago. Would he call and ask for her help? If so, would she be willing to help him?
I received a free ARC, and this is my honest opinion.
Brant: trying to live his life differently than the dysfunctional way he was raised. He strives to make amends to the community for the mistakes his father made. He becomes guardian of his nephew after the boy's mother died. He constantly "grieves" for a lost love that he abandoned on the night of the prom. This is an engaging story of trying to make amends for past mistakes, and willing to make sacrifices for the sake of his nephew's well-being. I was provided with a copy of the book and this review is my honest opinion
I really enjoyed this sweet, second chance, romantic Christmas read. The characters were all very likeable and it was easy to fall in love with them. Eve and Brant came back together to help a grieving young boy and this gave them their second chance. Their need for forgiveness and healing was real as they worked through their damaged histories. Highly recommended and it is clean and safe as usual from this author. I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest voluntary review.
Evelyn and Brant have a wonderfully sweet and heartwarming story. Brant has become the guardian of his nephew who recently lost his mom. The loss of his mom is so great he doesn’t speak or eat. The only person Brant can think of that might possibly help him is his ex who he had wronged many years ago, yet he still reaches out to her. Evelyn has become a champion for children in need all over the world. In spite of her anger at Brant, she cannot say no to helping his nephew. I highly recommend you read their second chance at romance.
Loved reading this story. Eve and Brant have history but haven’t seen or talked to each other in a decade. Desperate for help with his sister’s son after her death, Brant calls Eve. I love all the characters that are well described especially Nicholas. You feel drawn into their lives and problems. Very emotional dealing with all the past hurts. I can’t wait for the next one. I received this book from the author and this is my voluntary, honest review.
I like a good second chance romance, and this one had a good mix of angst, and anger, and forgiveness. It had great, well-fleshed out characters, and the story was really helped by both leads being really mature and willing to (finally!) talk it out. It was a realistic story, so it was dark in parts, but it had sweetness in just the right parts to balance it out.
If you love clean, Christmas-themed love stories which have a bit of a different story line, this one’s for you.
A Rancher's Christmas Gift is an emotional journey of forgiveness, second chances, healing and a special little man. Eve cannot deny a child in need. Nicholas doesn’t talk, barely eats and is withdrawing from everyone. When Eve gets stranded at the ranch, will she and Brant get a chance to resolve their past? This well written, heartwarming book kept me reading far too late at night!
If you’re looking for a beautifully written second chance romance, I highly recommend this book. Evelyn and Brant were over before they got started back in school. Now, it’s a decade later and Brant reaches out to Evelyn for help with his nephew, Nicholas. Grab your copy and fall in love with all these wonderful characters.
Brant and Evelyn share a special sweet romance, full of ups and downs, as their relationship meanders through a medley of emotions. Hope, forgiveness, and love surround Brant and Evelyn when they work together to build a happy future. Being together, building confidence to establish a loving home, and remembering to count your blessings are what really matters. Home is where the heart is.
This is an emotional story about a young couple that broke up and stayed apart while doing the right thing with the information they had. After avoiding each other for years, they come together to help a little boy.
Really enjoyed this slightly different story. loved the main characters. Loved Nicholas, especially. Felt so bad for Brant. Couldn't imagine losing a big part of your memories.
This was a sweet second chance romance. I enjoyed the read as it was the first read by this author for me. I didn't know what to expect but I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading more.
This is a great story that is well written and entertaining. The characters are captivating and complex. I enjoyed from the beginning to the last page.
Delightful story, A Rancher's Christmas Gift was to read. Eve was hurt by Brant many years ago. Brant still loves her, but hates that he hurt her. She is the only one he knows that can help him with his nephew, Nicholas. Can the two of them, work together for the sake of Nicholas? Eve has become stronger and more independent, since Brant last saw her, but he will do whatever it takes at this point. Will the love they had in the past, endure through this all. Wonderful characters and a beautiful, loving story. I was given an ARC of this book by the author for an honest review.
Eve and Brant have a past that neither one of them has really ever gotten over. Billy was definitely one of the most instrumentally secondary characters that I have ever seen. Eve amazed me by how she handled the situation when Brant called her about helping his nephew, Nicholas. He was such an adorable little boy who has already at such a young age experienced a lot of grief. Loved seeing these three together. I kept thinking what on earth could Brant's reason for breaking things off in high school be. Glad they were able to finally communicate. A really sweet and sad story that made me sad and happy. Loved the ending.
