Stealing a Marquess’s clothes is just part of the equation.

Miss Olivia Forester
is calculated, tenacious, and has never met a math problem she can’t solve. Love, on the other hand, is an equation she can’t seem to crack. Determined to show her childhood sweetheart she is worthy of his love, Livy ventures to London to prove she is more than a poor baron’s daughter. All she must do is ascend to the upper echelons of society. When she stumbles upon the influential Marquess of Dunmore, she knows he is the key to accessing the coveted circles of the ton. And how does one gain the assistance of a powerful Lord? By stealing his clothes, of course.

Scoundrel Roderick Blackwood, the Marquess of Dunmore,
hasn’t met a line he won’t cross—blackmail, murder, seducing a virginal unmarried miss. Life has never granted him any favors, so why should he offer any in return? Obsessed with control, Derek lives strictly by the rules he has set for himself, the most important Never more than one night with a woman. When blue-eyed angel, Livy, falls into his lap asking for his assistance, naturally his answer is yes. His goal? One more woman in his bed. But he never imagined agreeing to this bargain would put his rules, and his heart, at risk.

As each seeks to use the other, temptation—and unexpected love—flare. For love to triumph, Livy and Derek must dare to break their own rules… before their time together runs out.

Ruthless with a Rogue is a spicy Regency romance featuring an overbearing lord who needs nothing more than a brazen woman to put him in his place. Reformed Rake, Bluestocking, Scandalous Alliances, Bold Heroine, Forced Proximity, Grand Gesture and Grovel. Please note, this story contains adult language and FOUR scenes that are deliciously scandalous.

Livy has a problem. The neighbor boy she's been macking with for five years just told her she's not marriage material and his parents are taking him to London to find a better wife. She's the daughter of an absent-minded professor, and is quite the math girl herself. She's been chipping away at her personality to be what he wants, but apparently not enough. So she decides to go to London and make a social success for herself so his parents agree to the marriage. Derek also has a problem, most immediate that Livy caught him mid-tryst at a ball and low-key blackmailed him into helping her through his connections by holding his clothes hostage. Great set up.

These two characters are both wearing masks. Livy has to hide her intelligence and math abilities to try to conform to society's vision of an ideal lady so she can win either the husband of her dreams (her frankly quite mid neighbor). Derek hides his hurt and vulnerabilities under the facade of iciness, of not caring about anything or anyone apart from his bestie and bestie's grandmother. He thinks people only want him for his money and position, (or his swordsmanship), and he's made sure that's right.

Which makes them perfect for one another. The thing her stupid neighbor tried to train out of her is the very thing that delights Derek and that he celebrates. I loved the symbolism of early on in their arrangement he gives Livy an actual mask to wear, so she can show off her abilities at a gambling hell. It's literally the last time he lets her wear one, from then on it's praise and positive reinforcement for her brains and abilities. "His clever girl liked the praise. All praise? Or the fact that he'd praised her intelligence?"

She sees the vulnerability behind his mask pretty early on, and when she gets a full glimpse of the hurt and vulnerabilities he's trying desperately to hide, it doesn't deter her at all. And she's not at all interested in spending his money, or in a quick tumble, despite their extremely strong mutual attraction. "She might be the first woman he'd met who didn't want him for his purse or his prick." She doesn't want the only thing he thinks he's worth, and he does want the thing she thinks no one does, her brain.

I love that fairly early on Livy realized how she had evolved past her neighbor as a partner. It helped that the great Truth Teller friend Quint was like, he really didn't treat you well and you deserve better. He's also a person with no mask, just out here showing his emotions and being kind. You know who does wear a mask all the time? The whole rest of society who pretend to be one thing and are deep down terrible. We know this because Derek tells us many, many times. To the point where my kindle note was just "settle down sir."

Which leads to Koz as an author. She's a maximalist to the extreme, and will show AND tell, and then tell you again a little later. It's like the old english drawing rooms with tiny tables with trinkets on every surface and gallery walls full of paintings and clashing patterns and many rugs. It's definitely a vibe. I would love to see her under the hand of a strong editor, because her books are both slightly repetitive and quite long (nearly 500 pages). But her style is very evocative of old school books, with villains and side plots and twisted paths to an HEA. At one point there is an obstacle to their HEA that my kindle note was "respectfully this is a boring problem" (respectfully because it had to deal with helping orphans, I'm a monster). But of course that problem was but one link in a giant plot chain that Koz successfully brought tightly home.

So speaking of old school plots, this takes quite the turn into the dark, with some kidnapping and attempted SA, and some revenge killings. You know, as one does. It's a testament to Koz's storytelling that it all seems fine. Is it a wink to the Third Rail of Romance that Derek has plenty of raking opportunities after meeting Livy but of course can't stomach the idea? "He had even gone to a room with a wench. And immediately left." Yet shows up in public where he knows she'll be with a scantily clad woman on his arm. "Was there truly something so wrong with letting a second-rate actress rub against him as a distraction?" Maybe it's a wink to the Community meme, we can excuse [x] (in this case murder), but not [Y] (cheating). Don't worry, it's all because he's so sad he thinks she still wants the loser neighbor, she doesn't, and they are back in the groove immediately.

I really enjoyed this book even though (or perhaps because) it was a LOT. Koz is a fun writer, with a distinct voice, and a skilled hand at laying out improbable plots and bringing them home. If you can go with it, you are going to have a great time reading her.

Thank you to the author for the arc.

Miss Olivia Forester is like "The neighbor boy I grew up with will totally offer for me because we've been secretly been shackin' up for years." Said neighbor boy is like "Sorry it's not me, it's you being poor and awkward" Livy never met an equation she couldn't solve, however, and decides she's going to London for the season to accumulate clout like names in a dance card.

Derek has just finished participating in his favorite pastime, cuckolding a peer's wife in a dark room at a ball, when a slip of a woman stumbles upon him. It turns out she's got a bite to match her bark, because she has just confiscated all of his clothing and is threatening to bolt unless he agrees to help her climb the social ladder. Derek really has no choice but to comply, but decides to keep things interesting by informing her that he plans on seducing her in the meantime.

This will go super well for both of them!

Y'all know I'm just a girl asking you to give Lizzie C. Koz a chance every two to four business days. I think she's one of the freshest voices in historical romance and absolutely an author to keep on your radar! I've read just about everything she's written so far, and was lucky enough to beta read Ruthless with a Rogue. Since beta reading I've re-read it twice more so Livy and Derek have quite literally been holding me hostage for literal weeks. They're just two broken ding dongs who really see each other and eventually recognize that they're just better together.

Derek is my absolute favorite type of hero: a man with a degree from the School of Babygirls at Jamie Fraser University. If you're unfamiliar, it's a growly man who will proudly mortally cut a bitch on behalf of his woman, but whose insides are made of trauma and marshmallow fluff. Livy is a goal oriented unassuming bad bitch who is proficient in both math and verbally sparing with rakes. Otherwise known as a woman after my own heart. They have American Ninja Warrior obstacles to overcome because there are villains around every corner and just keep rolling with the literal and proverbial punches like it's their part time job (because it kinda sorta is).

Oh also the teaser at the end for the next book in this series (a little treat for all of the Jessica Trent stans) is f*cking incredible? Inject the Duke of Ironcrest's HEA into my veins!

What more do I need to say to convince you to pick up a Lizzie C. Koz novel? Because I'll say it! Out of love of course because I care about you and want you to read good books, duh. JUST DO IT! Oh and then slide into my DMs so we can gush together.

5/5 stars

4.5 ⭐️

I always love when a first meeting is tension-fueled, a punch is delivered, and a bargain is struck! Olivia (Livy) has been in love with her childhood neighbor forever but he’s recently unceremoniously dumped her since she’s not “marriage material” with her wild ways and passion for mathematics. When she meets Derek, woman hater and all around slut, he’s concluding a dalliance and intrigued by the bluestocking. When she threatens to steal his clothes if he doesn’t help her become a darling of the ton, you know it’s gonna get hot. And when he makes a bargain that she won’t be able to resist his seduction…..I’m all the way seated.

The chemistry between these two is so hot right from the start, and the sexual tension is so very palpable in every one of their interactions. But beyond the super hot attraction these two share, they also have very similar backgrounds and share this deep feeling of abandonment from their families. It creates this really beautiful connection between the two that further cements them beyond just the physical. Derek is also one of the few people who appreciates Liv for her mind and doesn’t want her to hide her brilliance, if anything he’s incredibly turned on by it. Which honestly, may have been my favorite part of this book. I love when the brilliant heroine is finally appreciated and WORSHIPED as she should have always been.

Lizzie likes to make her characters’ work, and this book threw so many obstacles in Derek and Livy’s way I was really unsure how they were going to make it to their HEA. But I loved how both Livy and Derek continually fight for each other (even at opposing times). Lizzie does an excellent job building this tension for us but also giving us winks that these two are soul mates. I’m a stan of the Kozverse as you all know, and this one was another solid entry into this ever expanding world. There’s so many peeks at future characters and storylines I can’t wait to explore!

Thank you to the author for an eARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

I really hate to give an ARC less than four stars, especially when I enjoyed other work by the author, but I feel in this case three stars really is more appropriate.

There are many things to love in the book. The microtrope where the heroine asks for hero's help to win over a lesser man is always catnip to me, and Lizzie Koz gives Livy a nice character-development arc through which Livy understands what her teenage infatuation with Warren was, that he wasn't ever right for her, and that Derek is a much better match. Derek and Livy are instantly attracted to each other, and the visceral pull between them is nicely rendered, even though the book overall isn't overtly spicy. When they finally do come together, it's hot and emotionally devastating for the couple (especially Derek) and the reader. I love that Livy is a math wizard (we need more book-smart heroines who are also pretty and socially adept) and how much Derek sees and appreciates her for who she is. With their mirrored motherless childhoods and fear of abandonment, they understand each other at a deep level and find pleasure, safety, and hope for the future in each other. For a rake, Derek doesn't have much of a problem committing to one special woman. And his dirty mouth is quite a treat!

However, the book really needed to be edited further, both for length and for the maddeningly nonuniform pacing that made it a struggle to stay immersed. There were many scenes where tension would start building and then you'd get paragraphs of internal monologue (with thoughts we've seen over and over) that would kick you out of the scene. This happened so often I wasn't sure I would be able to finish the book. There were also whole chapters that could've been removed without detriment to the story. The first half of the book was quite slow whereas the second half packed a ton of action with arson and Rafe's injury, honestly a bit too much action for how quickly the challenges were introduced and resolved. The novel almost felt like two separate books, simultaneously too long for the story it told and not long enough because the second half felt rushed.

Despite the somewhat rough ride, I remain a fan on Lizzie Koz and look forward to her next books.

Lizzie C.Koz has effortlessly clawed her way to the top of my fav HR authors list. She had this way of seamlessly etching words on my heart. She has once again created a world of characters that feel like family.i am emotionally invested in every one of their stories. Livy & Derek’s romance is a story the runs the entire gamut of emotion. Agonizing angst in their shared feelings of worthlessness. They both grew up with very different upbringings, but equally lacking in close affection. The way these two saw through the masks of society expectations to the truth seldom shared, it was breathtaking. Derek hid his pain behind a rogues mask antagonism and apathy. Livy tried to hide her desperate longing for love, but it was so clear in every action. Their story is a lesson in Murphy’s Law, if it can go wrong, it will. One mishap after another, from simple to devastating, their struggles broke my heart again and again. Touching on some tough subjects, Koz handles them with grace. What stands out with these two is their absolute ease in each other’s presence. Whether it’s their undeniable sparks and banter in the early pages or easy playful rapport in intimacy. The way they play with each other left me breathless and giddy. I loved the parrallel found family themes. Derek with Rafe and the duchess and Livy’s with Quinton. I cannot wait for those future stories. This story is intense, combustive and full of heart with a surprising amount of playfulness. I could not love it more.

What happens when a clever country bluestocking strikes a deal with the ton’s foremost one-night-stand, a glowering marquess playing by his own rules.

After being unceremoniously dumped by her childhood crush, Livy sets off for Town to have her belated Season, prove the idiot wrong and conquer him back.
Except, Society isn’t exactly welcoming to a penniless baron’s daughter.
Looking for a moment’s peace at a crowded ball, she stumbles upon him, Derek – infamous, cocksure and barely dressed.
To her he’s a golden ticket. To him she’s a tasty morsel, a lamb ready for slaughter.
Little does he know she’s a calculated lamb – and two can play that game.
Dangling herself as bait to ensure his aid, she unknowingly embarks on a journey to reform the rake...

Unlikely soulmates, a fascination for numbers and true colours, nerdy dirty talk, deft deflecting, seductive surprises, slutty little glasses, indulging chaperones, found family, midnight outings & promenade preening, a safe haven in need of funding, urchins & puppies, angels & demons, callous dastardly foes, suspicious accidents, deep-seated abandonment issues, touch-her-and-die (him), I-will-burn-the-world (her), quiet comradery, sly wit, unconditional friendship and reaching for the impossible.

The way these two show up for each other, for better or for worse, is breathtakingly, heartrendingly and utterly magnificent! The way she feels his pain without words, never runs, and instinctively knows how to sooth him. The way he admires her intelligence; he teases it out of her, gives her confidence, loves her just the way she is... it’s simply wonderful!
There’s so much I love about this book, but saying anything more might ruin the experience – and trust me, it’s an experience! An exhilarating ride with heartwarming humorous highs, scrumptious steam, moving sinister lows and gruesome reckonings.
An emotional rollercoaster of the best kind!

Livy is my favorite kind of heroine that reminded me a little bit of Jessica Trent. She's determined, resilient, intelligent and downright ruthless in getting what she wants. She pushes through the doubts in her mind, comes up with a plan and enthusiastically jumps in with both feet. She's not completely reckless though, her mind is quick, calculating and can read the room in an instant. And what a room to stumble into! Naked man! Naked INFLUENTIAL man. His clothes in a pile - leverage. Block his escape - cornered. Let the bargaining begin.

Derrick is the worst kind of rogue. He's cynical, depraved, jaded and mocks anything to do with love and relationships. He's a one and done kind of guy. He keeps strict control over his emotions, convinced that getting close to someone will only lead to pain and disappointment. So when a blue-eyed angel threatens him with exposure, he's amused rather than affronted. He'll agree to her terms, but she has to agree to his.

At first glance, they seem like opposites – Livy is bright and nurturing, he is guarded and cool – but deep down they both share a sense of abandonment shaped by their past. As they get to know each other, their differences begin to break down. Livy starts to see the caring side of Derrick that he tries so hard to hide. While Derrick struggles to hold on to his cynicism, Livy’s vivacity and warmth slowly change his perspective on life and love. He admires not only her intelligence but also her strength and determination. Livy begins to understand Derrick’s protective nature and learns to trust him, finding affection in his words and compassion in his actions. What they each feel is a weakness about themselves is what the other loves most about them. Together, they create a perfect team, standing strong against outside forces that threaten to keep them apart. No “third act break up because I’m denying my feelings” in this story which I highly appreciate!

This beautifully written story is filled with banter and tension, creating a perfect balance of light and dark moments. It captures Livy and Derrick’s struggles and victories, showing how love can survive and thrive even when faced with challenges. The emotional highs and lows completely engaged me, and I found it unputdownable once I started reading it. The side characters add depth to the story, enriching it with different views and experiences. It’s a love story that has everything I want: steamy moments, (the mouth on this guy!!) emotional depth, levity and just a little bit of darkness to keep me on edge. This story is a refreshing take on love, friendship, and personal growth – one that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a brilliant and heartwarming read.

I was honored to beta and ARC read this book. (Thank You!) All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Oh, my what a fun, laugh out loud story along with unbearable sadness, hurt and pain. This book will have your emotions all over the place. Olivia Forester is the daughter of Lord Forester and an astronomer who has his head in the stars and planets more than on his daughter. Her mother left claiming she would only embarrass her in society with her talk of mathematics; neither her nor her father was worth staying for. Lizza has never met a math problem she could not solve. Olivia/Lizza spent her days growing up running wild with the boys in the neighborhood. Quinton, Quint taught her how to throw a wicked right hook, if she was in trouble. He is the older brother she always wanted. His friend, Warren became her friend, boyfriend then much more as they gave in to the feelings and for five years were together. Then he goes and tells her she is not good enough for him to marry or for his parents. He left for London to find a Lady his parents would approve of. With her heart acing she enlists her Aunt Mellie as a chaperone and plans to head to London to prove Warren wrong. Aunt Mellie is fun, caring and a really bad chaperone, or is she? This is just another problem for her to solve, and she will. Roderick Blackwood, Marquess of Dunmore hides his true self behind a number of masks. He is known by the ton for being cynical and heartless. He doesn’t hide his dalliances and most knows of his debauchery ways. Yet he is invited to most ton events and along with his best friend, Rafe, the duke of Iron crest. The only family he has is Rafe and his grandmother the Dowager Duchess. Dunmore and Lizzie met at the Chesterfield Ball where she stole his clothes. So, starts a deal between then he will help her prove how wonderful she is so she can win Warren. And she will try to stop him from seducing her! Neither will ever be the same again. Both will learn they have much in common that they know and feelings and emotions they never let anyone see. Both have had people leave them. This is an amazing story of seeing who one truly is, second chances, overcoming one's fears and learning not to hide or be ashamed of who you are. So much going on you will not be able to put it down. Grab a copy to see how it all works out for more than just our couple. I can wait for the next book. I received an ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion, and I am freely leaving it. You can always tell a great story by how long the reviews are. This one has nothing but long ones.

Get ready for a thrilling journey through Regency romance, filled with twists that’ll leave you swooning and gasping in equal measure. First off, major kudos to the author for crafting such an engaging, heart-tugging, and downright delicious tale. You’ve outdone yourself!

Miss Olivia Forester—Livy to those brave enough to keep up—is expecting happily ever after with her childhood sweetheart. But when he ditches her to chase someone more "worthy," Livy doesn’t reach for the tissues. Oh no, she grabs her courage, packs her sass, and heads straight to London to prove she’s more than just a poor baron’s daughter. Enter Roderick Blackwood, Marquess of Dunmore—or as I like to call him, the ultimate bad boy with a title and a penchant for breaking hearts (and maybe a few rules). How does Livy get his attention? By stealing his clothes, of course.

Roderick thrives on being a bad boy —blackmail, seduction, even murder if his reputation is to be believed. He’s all about control, with a strict "one night only" policy for romance. But Livy crashes into his meticulously managed life with a plan: get his help to make her ex regret ever letting her go. He says yes, thinking she’ll be just another conquest. Spoiler alert: she’s not.

What follows is a breathtaking, heart-wrenching, and utterly magnificent journey. Livy sees through Roderick’s scoundrel facade, peeling back layers to reveal a man terrified of loss yet desperate for connection. Their unlikely bond—rooted in shared quirks, fierce loyalty, and undeniable chemistry—had me hooked. The way they show up for each other? Absolutely perfect.

But wait, there’s more! This isn’t just a love story. We’ve got dukes, sinister accidents, noble causes teetering on the brink, and villains lurking in the shadows. Toss in some witty banter, a touch of angst, and heartfelt moments, and you’ve got an emotional rollercoaster that’s impossible to forget.

Thank you for this unforgettable adventure. It had me laughing, crying, and swooning all in one sitting. I am anxiously awaiting Rafe, The Duke of Ironcrest’s story and what else Lizzie C. Coz has in story for us.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Ruthless with a rogue was everything I hoped it would be and more! I will try to describe what it felt like reading it with as little spoilers as possible. The battle of will and wits between Derek and Livy, their undeniable chemistry, how similar their childhood trauma was, how starved for affection they both were, are evident throughout the whole book. All these factors provide the reader with a story that escalates from fun to tender to deeply emotional. She is an intelligent woman who lacks confidence at first and tries to mold herself in what society deems a woman should be in order to be acceptable. Thankfully thanks to a certain rogue Marquise it doesn’t take her too long to realise she is perfect exactly as she is. He wears a facade of haughtiness and indifference towards almost everyone especially society and women. Deep down he simply is adorable with a golden heart and Livy sees right through his armour even from the start. Once they let their guard down it is obvious they are meant for each other. I really enjoyed his downfall to Livy and how smitten he was at first sight even though he didn’t dare to admit it to anyone, especially himself. His efforts to seduce her were so steamy and delicious and I never thought conversations about mathematics could be so sexy. All their moments were beautifully written, the carefree ones the steamy ones and the traumatic ones and all of them shape and evolve their relationship from something uncertain to forever. In hindsight this is a love story between two people who overcome their insecurities and fears, who accept and cherish each other exactly for what they are and who do everything in their power to reach their happily ever after, no matter the obstacles they encounter. I definitely recommend Ruthless with a rogue and any other book Lizie wrote! they all are great for any reader that loves historical romance with some modern elements and steamy moments between the hero and heroine!

There’s an exception to every rule and as someone who doesn’t enjoy a love triangle plot, this was the exception to that rule. Not that I ever had much doubt with this author but it did cross my mind in the beginning.

What I loved about this book was getting the fully fleshed out character arcs for both MC. Not only do you get Livy and Derek overcoming their initial obstacle but you also get them overcoming obstacles together and with each other’s support to strengthen their bond; knowing without a doubt they have what it takes to make it. Sure this book is almost 500 pages but I flew through this book faster than some half this length.

I loved all the facets to Derek, his journey, and how utterly hard he fell. I adored Livy as well, with a storyline that reminded me of the ugly duckling despite being beautiful. She was a strong heroine and I liked how once she sort of started blossoming, it gave her the confidence and strength to be there for Derek when he needed her.

There are so many parts to this book that add up to make it special. It has math puns and dirty talk, mental health rep, slutty little glasses, touch her and die (literally), Legally Blonde vibes, mathematician heroine, surrounding yourself with those you can be your true self, overcoming high stakes, “clever girl”, and endless side characters with potential future stories. I think I’d even be intrigued with a Warren redemption story.

I’ve also been looking forward to Ironcrest’s book since he was first mentioned in Compromised for Christmas and there’s a lot of backstory and build up for his character.

Ruthless with a Rogue is the second book in the Lords of Second Chances series. You could jump in here if you wanted and then catch up with the rest after.

There are four open encounters.

Be sure to check out the content warnings provided in the front of the book.

I received an advance reader copy from the author. All opinions are my own.

I am a huge fan of Lizzie Koz, and this may be my favorite of hers yet. I love how she really takes the time to develop her characters. Her books are not your typical HEAs (though this was HEA) - her characters are more fleshed out, multi-dimensional humans with traumatic pasts, painful wounds, and flawed coping mechanisms. We see that in both characters here (Derek and Livy), with both working through their baggage and taking an emotional journey together. The author's made an earnest effort to show us who Derek and Livy are, what makes them tick, and how they have come to view the world around them. As a result, seeing them fall in love makes for a deep and moving read.

It's a bit of an enemies to friends/allies to lovers tale. Our hero and heroine share similar past traumas. Livy has suppressed her true self, but Derek celebrates all of the qualities she has had to hide - her intelligence and intellectual curiosity (she's a math wizard), her wit, her fiery spirit. She is guarded, but is a warm and genuinely caring person who opens her heart and mind to Derek. He is a deeply wounded man with a dark side - we see this in two shocking acts of revenge that were fairly jarring. He's far from a perfect hero, but is fiercely loyal to his small circle of found family (which comes to include Livy). The tension builds from the time the characters first meet, and they are sizzling hot when they finally recognize that they love each other. Lizzie Koz is a master of writing steamy scenes.

I love historical romance and read at least 4 books a week; this is one of my favorite books of the year. Cannot wait to read the next installment about the Duke of Ironcrest (Down Bad with the Iron Duke)!

Received this book in ARC version.

Livy is a woman on a mission. After the man she loves tells her that he can’t marry her because she’s not the polished society lady that his position requires, she sets out to London to make her overdue debut and prove him wrong. Things aren’t going great until she stumbles upon the notorious Marquess of Dunmore. Stealing his clothes, she forces him to agree to help her take society by storm. His condition? That he can seduce her in the process. She agrees, with no intention of succumbing, but we all know how that goes….

Livy’s big, blue eyes might make her seem like a naive, innocent country miss, but she has fire. She’s a maths whiz and has had to hide her light under a bushel for too long to conform herself into society’s expectations of a woman. I loved seeing Livy get to reclaim herself - both her brains and her sexuality. She’s sassy, smart, compassionate and determined. So much fun!

Derek goes through real emotional growth in this story. He hides behind a sardonic mask, keeping his feelings buried but being very open about his disgust for the ton in general. Then, he’s completely bamboozled by a blue-eyed beauty who doesn’t instantly fall to his feet and gives as good as she gets. His protectiveness towards Livy and his complete adoration for her (even when he’s trying very hard to resist it) melted me. I loved seeing him confront his demons, with Livy’s support, and be vulnerable with her. Plus - I love a MMC with ‘touch her and d*e’ energy that really does live up to it.

The chemistry between Livy and Derek leapt off the pages and I was squealing with delight at their interactions. They were such a great match - her openness was perfect against Derek’s cynicism.

Lizzie once again writes such a steamy, emotional story that also buzzes with humour. The plot line around the foundling home and the funding issues added just enough stakes to drive the story forward and add tension to the development of the romance. There’s an amazing cast of side characters, many from previous books, and plenty are ripe for their own stories. I’m already chomping at the bit to read Rafe and Theo’s!

*I received a review copy from the author. This is my honest opinion.

Miss Olivia Forrester is determined to be seen by the one young man who says his parents would never approve of her! Him a mere Mr but Olivia aka Livy was in love with one Mr Warren Thornton her childhood friend and Livy fancied she loved him! Her other best friend Mr Quinton Sheffield was more like a big brother! Livy has suffered the neglect of a father a minor Baronet immersed in his studies and a mother that took off and never resurfaced!
Like does recognize like this happens when you meet someone who is your mirror image! Livys aunt patches up some clothes and takes her to London for a season all dreams seem just that!
Until Livy steals one notorious rakes clothes after he engaged in a tryst at a ball! Roderick Blackwood, Marquess of Dunmore wears his exploits as armor to protect him from wretched feelings! But when a mathematical genius steals his clothes and makes a bargain with him for once in his life he’s intrigued!
But what seems to be easy becomes complicated as Livy is determined in her goal to get Warren to notice her and properly court her!
This give and take of two strong willed people at first try to best each other than they realize they are on the same team!
They are terrified, brave and willing to give all the messy uncomfortable parts to each other! But in all true love stories they face villains and adversity!
One villain seems harmless and literally almost burns their world down around them!
If Livy is ruthless in getting Roderick aka Derek to face his feelings you should see what he does to their enemies! You won’t put this one down and it will stay with you long after the last page!
Bravo well done!

Welcome back to the world of Koz!
As I read all Lizie Koz books in a week I could not wait for Livy and Derek story. So, for the first time in my life I applied for ARC version and there it was 😁
This story is the continuation of the intricate world of rich and in love, highly amusing and heartfelt.
Livy is a supreme heroine, the banter between characters great, the only thing that was a bit too much for me was the sheer number of obstacles and twists getting to HEA. Nevertheless, the story shows that they stand by each other through everything—flawed, fierce, and completely devoted. She carries his pain as if it were her own, without needing explanation. He sees the brilliance in her, draws it out with love and patience, and never once asks her to be anything but herself. Watching them is nothing short of magnificent.
I like my readings HOT and Lizzie delivers. From the first moment, their connection crackles with intensity, and every glance or word between them is charged with undeniable tension.
Now I can't wait for the next story, both in the Lords of second chances and Jennings family!
Thank you for an eARC of this book.

A story of opposites attracts and scorching tension that will leave you breathless.

Livy, a brainy beauty, is trying to fit into society and deem herself as a someone worthy of marriage after unceremoniously dumped by her longtime beau. In a time where women should be seen and not heard, she tries to mold herself into what a man would want in a proper wife. But her love for numbers makes her undesirable. She finds the courage to ask for help from a popular Lord who can elevate her status, hoping to change her ex-beau's mind about marriage. But as she spends more time with the Lord, she discovers there is more to the rouge than meets the eyes and suddenly her math is not adding up.

Derek is a known womanizer and proud to flaunt it. He takes pride in his rake reputation. But when a blue-eyed beauty catches him in a compromising situation, he is coerced into helping her make a name in society and help catch her ex's eye once more. He soon realizes she has an aptitude for numbers and is awed by her brilliance; finding himself attracted to her brain. Complicating all matters of the heart as he tries to keep his emotions of the equation.

The tension between these two characters is scorching. Giving them their own voice while they attempt to heal from their broken past. I adore Derek, he encourages Livy to be her true self. And Livy is an anchor for Derek in his darkest moments. An unlikely couple will have you rooting for them and their happily ever after.

Please read the TW before you read this story! There can be triggering situations for some.

Lizzie does an amazing job writing brilliant heroines and their simping men. I highly recommend reading all of her books and fall in love with her world.

This is the 2nd book in the series.

Olivia/Livy thought she was going to marry her childhood sweetheart. When he tells her that she is not the type of women his parents want him to marry, she decides to do something about it.
She goes to London to hopefully change his mind and after ending up in a potenially risqué situation with the notorious rogue Derek/Lord Dunmore, she ends up striking a deal for him to help her.
He finds himself drawn to her, thinking that once he beds her then his need for her will disappear. But the more time they spend together, the more he wants her, even though he finds himself fighting his own thoughts about her. She starts to feel the same and after being assaulted by another member of the ton, he is the only man she feels safe around.
Will they give into their feelings and be with each other after all.

I really enjoyed reading this book and enjoy that it is linked to other series' by the same author. I would recommend reading this book.

Livy is quite intelligent, a whiz with mathematics. She tries to hide it and act the proper lady to please the young man she loves. Because his parents want him to make an advantageous marriage, Warren tells Livy that he must do as him parents wish. When she goes to London, it is with the intent to find a way to prove to Warren and his family that she is worthy of him. She stumble upon the perfect person to help her when she catches Derek, Marquess of Dunmore, in a compromising situation in the library at a ball. What starts as a scheme develops into so much more. Livy and Derek are great together. The smart brainy bluestocking and the arrogant Marquess see through the masks they wear and come to know each other as they truly are. There story is filled with emotion, discovery, and understanding. It turns out it’s a good combination. And Warren, he just misses out.

I knew this book was going to be good. But it totally surpassed my expectations. So. Much. Emotional. Depth! Derek and Livy are both great main characters.

This is a very moving and intense story of two people with deep trauma and personal issues, who meet eachother and instantly feel a connection. Of course they don’t acknowledge this right away, but as a reader you follow their journey, see their attraction, feel it grow into love, leading up to the ultimate HEA.
The author has the ability to really let you inside the heads/thoughts of the main characters. Thats really kept me glued to my ereader. Could not put this book down and read it within a day.

The book ended with one chapter from Detek’s friend Rafe’s pov. The next installment in this series is his book (Down Bad with the Duke) and I can’t wait to read it.

I have been reading A LOT of historical romance lately - some books by long-time authors and others by new talent. I have enjoyed much of it, but having experienced so many books and authors, the recurring themes are starting to bore me… the helpless damsel in distress, the notorious rake who suddenly changes his ways, the silly misunderstandings that are needlessly dragged out to the last moment, etc. I always finish books (can’t bear not to - must stick it out) but recently I have been tempted to leave some unfinished just to end the monotony of the “same old same old”. Gratefully, joyously, I have never had this issue with books by Lizzie C Koz.

I adore Lizzie’s fresh take on the romance genre. Her storylines are refreshingly original and I have devoured all her books so far. Her FMCs are so interesting and strong, and Livy in Ruthless with a Rogue is no exception. Livy may be in some distress, but she is definitely no helpless damsel. She sees her situation for what it is and boldly executes a plan to improve her own chances in life, without waiting for someone to fix it for her. She is such an interesting character… I love her intelligence and her amusing little quirks and sayings. I also respect that in spite of her attraction to Derek, she doesn’t immediately succumb to his charms - she stays focused on her goals to change her situation. As for Derek, he may be a notorious rake, but I appreciate how the author gives him great depth (more so than in many other romance books I’ve read, when it comes to MMCs) and shows how gravely he is struggling with his childhood trauma. There is so much beneath the surface of this interesting character. Livy and Derek’s love story develops and evolves in such a beautiful way. The storyline itself was very engaging and had many interesting supporting characters… I couldn’t put it down! I found myself laughing at some points and at other times a bit tearful (which doesn’t usually happen for me with books). Oh, and the love scenes are fabulously spicy (as with all the stories by this author)! I can’t wait for the next instalment in the series.

I was fully intending to wait for the release of a hard copy so I could mark my favorite spots and put tabs in all the awesome places. But I couldn't wait! I had to get an early ebook copy from Lizzie's store! I loved this book just like the last one. It deals with some heavy issues, but it is done beautifully. These two were so great together, they understood each other and didn't judge. Such a beautiful and tender story! Can't wait for Rafe's book! Also, there were several fascinating characters introduced that, I hope, will get their own stories, like a certain gamehell owner, or a tattooed doctor, or brothers with a cheeky last name, one of whom is a famous pugilist. Oh, and I will definitely be buying a hard copy of the book, because there for sure will be many re-reads.

Emotional love story!

I loved this romance. The plot is full of emotions. The main characters, Livy and Derek, are breathtaking. She is wily and brainy. He is rude and arrogant. Both are wounded people, abused in different circumstances. Each truly sees the other and the essence of who is hidden underneath. If any couple deserves a happy ending, it is these two.

There are intense and chemistry-driven moments in this novel. The emotional depth and the back-and-forth game between Livy and Derek captivated me.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Incredible! I was immediately drawn into this book. The way Lizzie Koz writes is wonderful. You can feel the ebb and flow of her words as she weaves a story of strength, perseverance, trauma, and acceptance. Her characters have strength and vulnerability and she totally brought Olivia and Derek to life. They are so full of depth that I felt like I was getting to know both of them so well. The side characters brought a lot of depth as well. The humor had me laughing out loud while those intense dramatic moments had me sitting on the edge of my seat. I would definitely recommend this book. I cannot wait for Rafe's story.

Ms. Koz you are a genius with weaving the angst and healing in this story. The salvation was a perfect blend to the trauma of the characters. The avenue you chose to bring the light to the story couldn’t have been constructed any better. Even though this is a historical setting, the actions and thoughts of the main characters were so realistic. The subtle shifting of thoughts and awareness was brilliantly done.

The most awesome deal was struck!
Livy, you are so shrewd!
I love you dearly!

But will Derek?

Reform him?
Hmmm.
Not so sure that's possible!

Ms. Koz penned a steamy, interesting, historical romance I couldn't put down!

Wonderful dialogue and even better characters!

This is my first in the series and by the author!
Looks like I have a lot of enjoyable catching up to do!
Cannot wait!

Such a well written story with deep, developed characters. Both of our main characters had very sad, troubled childhoods but that is part of the draw between them. Both need the other to help heal and gain a new kind of strength and purpose. Some really good twists with some tearful scenes. Definitely worth your time.

Once again incredible writing. These two are perfect. The ability to write realistic characters who are dealing with mental health issues shouldn’t be underestimated at all. This does not distract from this amazing love story. Ooo and he has spectacles!

I really enjoyed the previous book in this series, but this one fell flat for me. While there were a few sweet and steamy moments, the story was bogged down by excessive drama, an overwhelming number of characters, and far too many pages.

Ruthless with a Rogue is the second book in the Lords of Second Chances series. Lizzie C Koz is one of my favorite authors and all of her books have been some of my favorite reads.

Based on his appearances in previous books, I was eagerly awaiting Lord Dunmore's turn in the spotlight. He was as delicious of an MMC as I thought he would be. His "touch her and die" energy paired with a softer need to take care of Olivia in his own ways made the romance in this book a home run. (Look at me getting in the right mindset to read this author's next book.)

I always say that Lizzie writes the best MMCs, but that doesn't mean that her FMCs are any less fabulous. A strong character was needed to match Lord Dunmore's rake with a side of anger, and Olivia was just that person. She is innocent in some ways, but she goes tit for tat against Derek. She puts him in his place and that makes him OBSESSED. I love a smart heroine, especially when she finds a partner who appreciates that. Their equal, but different energies made the spice super hot and some of the intimate dialogue made for my favorite quotes.

There is a lot of action in this book. It's definitely not a cozy read, but it's the book I want to have in my hand any free moment I have to spare.

Always a fan. Can't wait for Rafe's book!

Fantastic. I was hooked from the beginning, loved the characters immediately and the story just kept me reading, far longer than I should have been at night. Fantastic read and cannot wait for the next book in the series.
