Faeries of Door County #3

Return to Mooncrest Inn

Rate this book
She’s the woman he can’t forget. He’s the man she can’t forgive. When she returns home to help her ailing father, sparks fly... along with tail fins, fur, and fangs.

Mona Lisa DeMaris is a witty mermaid who loves to travel and never got over that one guy from high school. She’s on temporary leave from her cruise director job to help her ailing father run Mooncrest Inn, the only five-star resort in Wisconsin designed for supernatural guests.

Jake Grayclaw Spellman is a werewolf alpha who’s afraid of commitment and never got over that one girl from high school. He’s also the fire chief and mayor of Riddle Hill, a supernatural village in Door County.

When Mona accidentally “wins” a date with Jake on New Year’s Eve, the evening ends in disaster... but not before feelings they’ve buried for years begin to resurface.

While Mona is more convinced than ever Jake is the last man she could ever love... Jake is absolutely certain Mona is the only woman for him.

But how will a Midwestern werewolf persuade a mermaid with wanderlust not to return to the sea?

If you’re looking for sweet, slow-burn romance with swoony kisses, second chances, and funny, heartwarming characters, don’t miss the Faeries of Door County, a clean paranormal romance series for fans of K. M. Shea and Dusty Rose. Set in the same interconnected world, each book is a happily-ever-after standalone story that can be read in any order.

I was so excited to be able to continue this series and head back to the paranormal small town of Riddle Hill!

I absolutely adored broody and burly werewolf Jake and loved getting to know him better in this book. I loved that he definitely fell first for Mona and would do anything for her. But at the same time acted like a total fool every time he was around her. I loved seeing him protect her, plan a perfect date, surprise her, and just know how much he adored her.

I loved Mona too. She is definitely the perfect other half for Jake. I love that she knew how to push his buttons, call him out when he was getting broody and accepted all parts of what makes Jake unique.

I also loved that this book had quite a few pride and prejudice references because I am totally picture Jake as Mr Darcy…just make him a werewolf/firefighter. It’s a perfect combo!

If you are looking for a small town paranormal romcom that will make you swoon, giggle, and smile definitely give this one a go!

I was so happy to return to the cozy, supernatural town of Riddle Hill for Jake and Mona’s story!

Mona Lisa DeMaris finds herself on a temporary leave from her cruise ship job to help her father get the well loved but falling apart Mooncrest Inn back into shape. When her former high school crush, who broke her heart years ago, joins a fundraiser and Mona somehow wins a date with him, the past and buried feelings start to resurface. Jake Grayclaw Spellman wears many hats-well maybe too many hats-as fire chief, mayor, and alpha of his werewolf pack. When Mona, the mermaid who had captured his heart for as along as he can remember, wins a date with Jake, Jake knows that this is his second chance to finally tell Mona how he feels. Well, things don’t go as planned, and with the help of his family, and honorary uncle vampire Malaki, Jake and Mona come to realize that they are more than just destined to be together-they are mates. Oh, and that Jake does indeed like red velvet cake…and pride and prejudice.

This story was so much fun, and had so many heart felt, raw moments. I loved how Jake and Mona complimented each other and also drove each other crazy, all at the same time. I can’t wait to continue reading this paranormal and whimsical series!

"Love is the deepest, truest, fiercest of all emotions."

An adorable romance between a headstrong mermaid and a hunky werewolf! This book picks up right where Half a Faerie left off, and I was so excited to return to this spunky little town in Door County. The characters are so lovable that it feels like visiting old friends!

I haven't read many urban fantasy novels featuring a mermaid, but I thought it was really fun how Toni brought Mona's character to life. It really added to the magic of the story. Also, the chemistry between Mona and Jake was off the charts! The slow-burn romance was definitely worth it.

One sassy, strong-willed mermaid.
One sweet, broody werewolf.
One sweeping tale of pining, swooning, and love.

Toni Cabell weaves a magnificent masterpiece in this perfect successor to Half A Faerie. Her illustrious descriptions of werewolf and mermaid culture, all of the angst and swoon you can handle, and the emotional, heart-wrenching moments that will make you sob... Suffice to say, you need to read this literary marvel.

Picking up right where Half A Faerie left off, Jake Grayclaw Spellman is roped into being a bachelor for a New Year's Eve fundraiser... Only to find out that his teenage crush, Mona Lisa DeMaris, is suddenly his date.

Mona Lisa DeMaris is a strong, confident mermaid with a complicated past, who knows what she wants... Which all comes undone when she spends time with Jake on New Year's Eve.

This romance will have you flipping pages until the very end!

If you're a reluctant romance reader like me, this series is a treat! If you're a mama of teen daughters and want a clean buddy read to share, this is also a perfect match!
With enough 'sizzle' to build connection between the characters kept completely appropriate, I can say this is one novel and series I'll be recommending often.

While the tropes of faced mates, childhood sweethearts kept apart, and hometown hero/wandering beauty are familiar, the touch of paranormal lends them new charm in this novel. My favorite touches from 'Half a Faerie' return (the gargoyles really deserve every cameo they get!) with well developed characters. It's a joy to find the male protagonist and the supporting men given the attention the gals get in a romance book.

As a grown-up who still needs Fairy Tales and a reminder to offer grace to others, this is a lovely book to pull out and enjoy just those things!

This is the first-ever paranormal romance I've ever read, so I wasn't sure what to expect going into it. It was absolutely delightful! Toni Cabell did such a fantastic job with the setting--vampires who make awful concoctions with tart cherry juice and pepper! A meddling ancestor auntie in a picture frame! Teasing kitchen gargoyles! And the story of Jake the werewolf and Mona the mermaid was fantastic!

Some favorite things:
🐺 Jake watching the Colin Firth Pride and Prejudice
🐺Jake rescuing Mona from the fire
🐺Malaki the vampire and his matchmaking
🐺The red velvet cake recipe in the back of the book! I want to try it now!
🐺The wolf pack's loyalty to Jake
🐺That last chapter--IYKYK
🐺The strong friendships--I really felt that the Door County people had each other's backs. Such a cozy community!

I highly recommend this clean romance!!!

4.5 stars

I’m sad to have reached the end of this series. This was an enjoyable cozy paranormal romance with a mermaid faerie and an alpha werewolf. Mona comes home from her cruise director job to help out her father with his inn. She’s known Jake since he was 5 years old. Unbeknownst to her, he has had a strong crush on her for almost that long. He’s the fire chief and the mayor as well. And, he closes down their inn because it’s not up to code. With feelings of forced proximity, second chance, and more, this romance also throws in a love triangle and some danger. It was a lovely read with some great characters and happenings. The romance is just kisses, intimacy level 2. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.

I loved this book! It was intertwined with magic but not overrun by it. I loved the pulls between land and water, sand and the sea. I laughed out loud at Auntie Emogen! She just might be my favorite snooping character. (Don’t miss the gargoyles) No spice, just swooney kisses. I love the small town feel. I could get into everyone’s story in this town💗

I totally get how Jake feels like he has to do everything. He feels he has to be strong for everyone around him, If he doesn’t do it, it’s not done right.

Now Mona in the other hand is sassy and says what she’s thinking. Doesn’t let peer pressure over take her.

The bath tub is a little girls dream! Ever since I was little I would pretend to be a mermaid at bath time.

I am so happy we got to hear Jake’s story. He and Mona were destined to be together! And who doesn’t love a second chance at happily ever after❤️
The only thing is I wish Jake didn’t have so many near death experiences. I understand it helped him realize what he was missing in his life, but so many hospitals visits.
But still a super fun read!!

This cute standalone romantasy book is a fun read for those who love urban fantasy. It’s set in Door County, WI which I loved. It had a few more fantasy elements woven in than the first book in the “series” which elevated it even more in my eyes.

Return to Mooncrest Inn by @tonicabellwrites

Blurb: She’s the woman he can’t forget. He’s the man she can’t forgive. When she returns home to help her ailing father, sparks fly… along with tail fins, fur, and fangs.

Review: I liked this book more than the first one I read in this series. I have always been a sucker for mermaids so that definitely sparked my interest! This book was fun and definitely felt like a wild ride! Jake and Mona had a rollercoaster romance but it was fun to ride it with them and I enjoyed the mermaid of it all. Jake is a great character too and I loved his protective nature. Also fun fact my husband is 6’2” and has a beard like Jake so I think he got bonus points from me for that. If you like paranormal sweet romances this one is for you!

Trigger warnings: Past trauma (loss of parents), past mental illness (parent), Fire (injuries but no death), car accident (injuries only), and werewolf fight (no death).

This was such a darling read. I loved Mona and Jake, and all the messes they get into and out of. I don't think I have ever read another paranormal romance before, but this was so fun! Mermaids and werewolves were fun to read about. And I enjoyed the sizzle with no inappropriate scenes.

My only complaint was the vampire Malaki. I loved the character, but I really struggled understanding what he was saying and since he was so integral, that is why I gave it 4 stars.

Even with that, I would say this book is 100% worth the read!

Do you like shifter stories and Hallmark movies??

If yes, you need to read this book.

This book was so sweet and adorable!! I used to love reading werewolf books, but they are always spicy. I was excited to find a closed door author who writes paranormal romance!

This book gives serious Hallmark vibes. If you like the cozy feels and sweet romance of a Hallmark movie with just that touch of drama added in, this is perfect for you.

Poor Jake, he goes through quite a lot in this book. He is kind of a gruff guy, as expected for a werewolf… but he has a really sweet and gentle side.

Mona is feisty but fun! I like her relationship with her dad. He is so protective of her and she finds ways to express her freedom without being rebellious and disrespectful…which is wonderful.

The side characters in this story are all likeable. The town is full of funny and quirky characters.

I look forward to reading the next book in the series!

Read if you like:
🧜‍♀️Paranormal Romance
🐺 Quirky Side Characters
🧜‍♀️ Taking care of each other
🐺 Protective but sweet MMC
🧜‍♀️ Feisty but kind FMC
🐺 Family Dynamics
🧜‍♀️Only one Bed
🐺Second Chance Romance
🧜‍♀️Hallmark Vibes

Warnings: some violence, dealing with grief, anxiety, some medical/hospital scenes. Nothing graphic.

Probably a 4.5🐾

What a fun read ! This book has interesting characters and a world that is unique, intriguing while still easy to follow.

The main characters are relatable. Aunt Imogene is my favorite. I wish I had a fairy godmother like her!

I highly recommend this clean romantasy!

This book delivered just as much as the first in the series did! It's the perfect cozy romcom for every Hallmark movie lover, just in book form! I also love that it could still most likely be read as a stand-alone story with very little confusion.
Jake made me laugh so often. He's trying so hard and he's just a big ol teddy bear, trying to be everything he can for everyone but realizing that he needs to chillax by the end of the book.
Mona is a sassy sweetheart that really is what I imagine a Sour Patch Kid personality to be like except the sour is her sass.
Mona's dad is the epitome of overprotective father that just makes you face palm, roll your eyes, and chuckle.
I was so happy to see more of the vampire in this book, he's such an awesome side character! I also love that a vampire and werewolf are really good friends, it's just so funny.
The romance was cute though I didn't love the love triangle, at least Mona didn't either! The happily ever after made me swoon and gave me all the happy giddy feelings I expected. Really just a good book.

I don’t read a lot of paranormal romances, however I loved this one! Cabell does a fantastic job of creating a paranormal world and crafting a story that is both entertaining and sweet. I loved how although the romance was the main story, there were side stories going on throughout it. I enjoyed all the characters and the small town feel. This was such a fun read and if you like paranormal romances I would definitely give this one a go!

Disclosure: I received an early readers copy of this book and my review is given freely as a courtesy to the author.

This was such an enchanting story! This is such a wonderful story of first loves and second chances. Head strong mermaid meets rule following werewolf.

I enjoyed following the story of two fated mates and their journey to true love. No spice, swoon worthy romance, sweet moments filled with love, personal growth, and lots of witty banter, this book had it all! Do yourself a favor and read this book, you won’t be disappointed! Job well done!!

This was my first book from Toni and I was pleasantly surprised. This is book 2 and having never read book one (I know Ive read it now though!) I wasn’t lost. This was great it told enough back story to where I was able to enjoy these characters without having to be involved with the first book.

Toni has created a wonderful world that is cozy and sweet… like a hallmark movie. The main characters are a warewolf and a mermaid and no I am not one for spoilers so I wont dive in too deep but I do wanna say I think they we were well developed and so were the minor characters. It felt very comfortable and complete, like its a real place you could visit. (like the Halloween Town movies!!)

This book was a definite page turner for me personally with its slow burn and twist and turns. I had to see how it was going to end…. I did go back and read book 1 and truly same results wonderfully written with great build up and easy to see why this is a series… I do hope there is more to come… like a lot more and having some of the minor characters move into main.

This is the best closed door paranormal romance!! I am going to have fun rereading this book over & over. This is my 4th book by Toni & I am going to look at the rest of her books & add them to my wishlist so I can buy them!!!
Jake is the werewolf alpha who’s the mayor & fire chief. His old crush Mona comes swimming back into town to assist her father & help maintain Mooncrest Inn. Which she quickly finds out is on the verge of being shut down due to many fire safety violations. Mona quickly finds herself in a love triangle with Jake her school crush & Emilio the Captain of the cruise ship she works on who is ready to take the next step in their relationship. What is Mona to do??

This is the third and final book in the trilogy about The Faeries of Door County and I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically recommend you get this entire three book set to enjoy this romcom fantasy series about a
supernatural family in Door County Wisconsin who find their fated mates after experiencing the highs and lows of their interactions with each other leading to humorous and tear filled experiences you will love to read again and again!

Love doesn’t run smooth for our three couples as you’ve discovered in the first two books and the third one may just be the rockiest yet because this couple has had their fated mate bond erased from their memories even though there has always remained a strong bond of love/ hate between them they find frustrating to explain to themselves!

Jake has remained in Riddle Hill his entire life while Mona has left after high school to sail the seas working on cruise ships rising to crew ship director which fills her need to be near the water as she is half mermaid. Jake on the other hand is a werewolf but also mayor, fire chief and alpha pack leader of the local wolf pack.

When Mona returns to help her ailing father run the family inn while he recuperates, Mona and Jake meet again but things get off to a rocky start and then really go downhill as Jake as fire chief shuts down half the inn’s business because of fire code violations.

However, things start to improve when Jake saves Mona from a fire in the part of the business that he closed down and things start to improve until her friend/ ex boyfriend from the cruise ship shows up.
A typical lover’s triangle!

You will enjoy this heartwarming story of true love being hidden because of a spell that prevented them from really knowing they were fated mates until an incident occurred which broke the spell they were under.

I loved this book and this series. Each book will leave you wanting more as you read these books and since no more currently are being planned you like me will have to reread these three books to recapture the magic you enjoyed the first time you read them!

I urge you to get and read not only this book but the other two in this series if you haven’t read them yet! I can promise you you’ll not regret it! Toni is a masterful storyteller who tells a story so believable you just know these characters are real! There is no spice in this series so you can read them just enjoying them without worrying about something awkward happening later!

If you’re looking for a sweet romantic series with characters you’re going to love and identify with look no further because this series has everything you’re looking for!

It’s the perfect escape from the daily bad news that seems to plague us now. Why not escape into a book you’ll love and take your mind off the troubles around you for a little while!

I loved this series and so will you I guarantee it!

I received the eARC for my honest opinion.

If you ever wanted to read a cute paranormal romance book that will give you the most perfect Netflix movie vibes too? Well, you need to read this book! Here are some of the tropes you will find: paranormal romance, closed door romance, small town, second chance, werewolf and mermaid, great banter and just so sweet that you will find yourself wrapped up in your favorite bookish blanket, with fuzzy socks, a cup of tea nearby. I loved the first book of this cute series Faeries of Door County, and I am even more in love with book two.

You will meet Mona who is a sassy, strong minded mermaid who has come back to her hometown to help her ailing father, but she has always planned on returning to her job as a cruise director in the tropics. Jake is a werewolf alpha who is the mayor of Riddle Hill and the fire chief. He has been head-over-heels about Mona but after a mix-up in high school he has been so scared to talk to her, but after Mona accidently wins a date night with Jake on New Year’s Eve things start to snap into place for the both of them.

I loved the plot of this book; I found the pace to have been perfect. There were times I didn’t even want to finish reading the book because that meant that it was getting closer to ending. I loved the banter that these characters had and even the side characters adding their own banter throughout the book. I want an Uncle Malaki who is a vampire, he was one of my favorite side characters. You will find heartfelt moments in this book, I was swooned by what Jake did to rescue Mona from the fire, and I couldn’t stop swooning over all the sweet moments that he planned. I loved that even though they’re mates, they drive each other crazy; then the next moment they were all loving over each other. I loved that even after Jake found out that Mona was his mate, he still was understanding that she needs to have her own independence, and he would never want to take that away from her. You can tell that he truly loves Mona, and he wants the world for her even if that means that she won’t be with him. The chemistry between these characters was chef's kiss, the slow burn to their HEA was soooo worth it. The way that Cabell writes will make your heart melt and want to be in the small town with them. You will be fighting yourself to not want to flip those pages to see what is next.

I can’t wait to see what is next in this series!

I want to thank Toni Cabell for the opportunity to review this book.

I normally read fantasy books with a bunch of action, this was a nice change of pace as I’ve been wanting to get more into romance books and this is how the book felt.
Mona is a cruise director who’s come home to help her father at his inn. She also happens to be a Mermaid 🧜🏻‍♀️.
Jake he’s the Mayor, Fire Chief, and Werewolf Alpha 🐺.

This book reminded me of a cozy hallmark movie just with some fantasy mixed in. Mona is trying to help her father fix up the inn and Jake seems to always be in the right place at the right time. While as fire chief he does shut down the inn until they make some repairs, he does show up and save Mona when a fire breaks out. Then offers his help in making repairs. Then he spoils her completely when a car accident happens that is somehow “his fault”. Like every wonderful book or at least the ones I like the most there is a happy ever after.
“Love is the deepest, truest, fiercest of all emotions, It can fill you with joy and happiness all your days. But the opposite is also true. Love is despair… and pain.”

Tropes:
🩵 Small Town
🩵 Fated Mates
🩵 They Save Each Other
🩵 Love Triangle
🩵 Second Chance

✨All Swoon, No Spice
✨No Swearing
While this is part of an interconnected world book “series” it can be read or listened to as a stand alone.

The Narration of this book was amazing. Sometimes dual POV books are hard to listen to when only one narrator does both the MMC and MFC. However Lisa Lynn did an amazing job giving both characters voices their own sound and feel without trying to sound like a raspy man. Lisa’s way of narrating drew me into the story and made it hard to pause and “put the book down”. I would highly recommend you listen to this audiobook if any of the above tropes catch your interest.
I don’t get much time on the weekends so this listen took me about 4 days.
I listen at a 1.1X speed.
