I’ve trained my whole life for this—elite level gymnastics, gold medal dreams, proving I belong in a country passing laws to erase transgender athletes like me. It's not enough to compete. I fight to exist on the podium.
Other than my mom, my best friend Weston and his dad, Wyatt, are my only constants. They’ve been my anchors through everything. But Wyatt isn't just the man who's always been there to catch me when I fall—he's the man I've been in love with for as long as I can remember.
He's finally looking at me like he sees something more than the boy I used to be.
Wyatt sees the man I've become.
Wyatt
I've known Niles since he was a kid—sharp, driven, fearless, impossible not to admire.
But lately, that admiration has taken on a dangerous tone. There's an edge to him that has me noticing him in a way I'd never fathomed before. He's grown into a confident, stunning young man with an audacity that both intrigues and intimidates me.
Now every time he looks at me like he wants something more, I forget all the reasons I should say no. He makes me feel alive like I never have before.
Except, I'm his coach. I'm seventeen years his senior. And he's my son's best friend.
Full Split is an engaging forbidden romance between gymnastics competitor Niles and his best friend's dad, Wyatt. They share a strong bond that is tested as their feelings and attraction evolve, but the age difference and Wyatt being Niles' best friend's father create many complications that threaten their developing relationship.
Overall, this story has everything: a great relationship between Niles and Wyatt, a strong friendship between Weston and Niles, and a strong theme of identity and perseverance. Full Split delves into the pressures of navigating a complex sport, public scrutiny, and personal self-doubt. Niles and Wyatt face many obstacles, yet their bond remains unbreakable. I admired Niles' tenacity and his ability to overcome so much without withdrawing or downplaying his talents and efforts to become a top gymnast.
This story is full of heart and touches on many important topics, enriching the narrative and making it truly compelling.
** I reviewed a complimentary copy of this story.***
niles and wyatt were both cute and incredibly hot together. i love a best friend’s dad plot, or any forbidden + age gap story, and this was no exception. i really enjoyed how high the stakes were and how messy things got. i was in a messy mood and this delivered.
i also really loved the trans rep in this book. rebecca rathe is very clearly passionate about lgbtqia+ and trans rights and it really came through in this story. there was a very strong message of unconditional love and acceptance in this book that i adored.
dear god, the spice. rebecca always comes through in this area but this book was insanely spicy. well freaking done.
ahh, i just really love this series so much. i think this book has become my second favorite (still no one can beat noah and lane).
MY HEARTTTTT😭 rebecca… you always do this to me. i was not expecting to feel so connected to these two. both wyatt and niles are so sweet. nile’s is my favorite character from this series for sure. I LOVE THIS REPRESENTATION 🏳️⚧️
Full Split centers trans joy. Niles's self-confidence and allure are everything. The chemistry and spice are incredible: Wyatt's love for Niles borders on worship. As a transmasc reader, I adore how much this book highlights the perks of being a trans guy. So hot and heartwarming.
I closed this book with a little more hope in my heart. To protect my mental health, I've been cautious about reading stories that face transphobia head-on. Full Split balances the all-too-real impact of the current political climate with community solidarity and, ultimately, triumph.
I'm so grateful to Rathe fort the chance to check out an advance copy. I'm leaving this review of my own accord.
I was fortunate enough to be a sensitivity reader for this book, and all I can say is Rebecca Rathe has done it again. Rebecca Rathe is the kind of writer that can satisfy your desire for a hot-as-hell spicy romance while also speaking about larger issues that impact the LGBTQ+ community. I loved Niles and Wyatt and can’t wait for the rest of the world to fall in love with them too.
"We need to be the role models we needed most" Full Split by Rebecca Rathe
With every book Rebecca releases in this series, I find myself saying, “This one is my favorite.” But this time, it truly feels different, this book didn’t just become a favorite, it became something deeply special and meaningful to me as an ally to the queer and trans community. Wyatt and Niles are characters filled with such strength and determination that it’s impossible not to admire them and celebrate every victory along the way.
Niles’ resilience from such a young age was both heartbreaking and inspiring. Watching him face hatred yet still move forward with his head held high was powerful, emotional, and unforgettable. After reading Rebecca’s author notes, I appreciated even more how she intentionally represented a trans man with honesty, care, and respect. She highlighted the importance of access to proper medical care from the start, something that can change lives. I loved that Niles had such a strong foundation in his mother, who immediately embraced him, did her research, and made sure he had the care and support he deserved. That unwavering love helped him grow into the incredible Olympic athlete he became.
Niles’ circle of support was beautiful. Wes, who I adored, stood by him with fierce loyalty, acceptance, and love. And then there’s Wyatt. Some might pause at the age gap, but Rebecca handled it with honesty, transparency, and tenderness. Through Niles, Wyatt discovered himself. He grew, he healed, and he learned he wasn’t broken, he simply needed someone who saw his worth and spoke to his heart. Niles gave Wyatt a second chance at love and intimacy, and watching that unfold was breathtaking.
This story is more than a romance, it’s powerful, timely, and hopeful. In today’s political climate, where so many people’s rights and identities are under attack, this book offers courage, education, and a voice. It’s a reminder of the importance of standing up for what you believe in, while also showing the beauty of unconditional love and support.
And, because Rebecca always knows how to make us smile, there was a delightful surprise cameo from a beloved character in the series. Seeing him, his husband, and their son step into this story to support Niles made me grin and kick my feet with joy. If you’ve read the earlier books, you’ll know exactly who I’m talking about.
It’s easy to see why this book holds such a special place in Rebecca’s heart, and now, it holds one in mine too. I can’t wait for the audiobook, because I just know hearing these characters brought to life will make the experience even more extraordinary.
Beautiful, stunning, and absolutely wonderful. This is everything I could have asked for. The transgender representation was done beautifully, and compassionately, and Niles is one of my most favourite MCs I’ve ever read. I’m not ready for this series to be over.
—————-
Listen, if Rebecca read it, I’ll write it. You know it, I know it, everyone knows it. So to say I’m absolutely devastated that there’s only ONE book left in this series is the understatement of the year. Rebecca says this series change her life? Well, yeah. Same. I read HITG early in my MM journey, and I haven’t stopped since.
Anyways, let’s talk about Niles and Wyatt. We’ve got Best Friends (who’s like a brother) Dad, Age Gap, Transgender Rep, Forbidden, all the yumminess, a bit of a brat, a lot of teasing, a lot of Gymnastics, both physical and mental (poor Wyatt) and some hard hitting truths about LGBTQ+ representation in professional sports. There’s a lot here, I’ll break it down for you.. a bit 😏
Basically all you need to know is Niles has been in love with Wyatt for.. well as long as he can remember what love felt like. Firstly, like a father figure, the man who introduced him to the world of gymnastics and always pushed him to be his best. Then secondly, as the man who he could never have but always wanted.
Niles is on his way to the top. He’s determined to get there, no matter what. So when Wyatt starts returning his playful banter, safe to say total destruction is to come.
Come for the beautiful, stunning, heart warming story. Stay for the delicious spice, love that conquers all, and honestly? The beautiful friendship between Niles and his best friend. Weston is a gem, we need to protect that man at all costs.
Rebecca, you’ve absolutely outdone yourself with this book. Niles is stunning, and I’m so endlessly grateful to you for bringing his story to life for us all to enjoy. 💙
Rebecca always delivers on the intense intimacy/chemistry between the main characters, and this couples’ was no different. The transition from Wyatt seeing Niles as just his son’s best friend to more was done really well in my opinion. He never felt attracted to or had feelings for Niles up until recently, where Niles is an adult who is pursuing him. Wyatt was Niles’ safe space and someone he trusted wholeheartedly. He had loved and depended on him since he could remember and was determined to make their relationship work.
I loved how informative this was about trans people, especially the athletes. It was heartbreaking but also real to see how the media and other athletes made a spectacle about Niles once they found out that he was trans. Niles handled everything with grace and was a role model for the LGBTQ+ community. I admired how confident he was and that he could stand up for himself.
My favourite character was Weston. That man had me wishing for a best friend like him. He was so supportive of Niles, always having his back and treating him like his brother. Niles was pretty lucky to have him, Wyatt and his mum as his support system from a young age.
Overall, this was an emotional yet powerful read that I would recommend anyone to read.
- Age gap - Best friend’s dad - Coach X gymnast - Secret relationship - Trans rep - Found family
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🫦🫦🫦🫦 ✨✨✨ OMG — what a story. I loved every word of it. Full Split was my first read featuring a trans main character, and it was everything I hoped for and more. Emotional, raw, and deeply resonant, this book offers a powerful, intimate look into the LGBTQ+ community while delivering all the tension, spice, and heart Rebecca is known for. 🧠 Niles — sharp, bratty, and beautifully guarded. A trans man navigating grief, identity, and desire with a mix of sass and vulnerability that makes him unforgettable. 💪 Wyatt — once just a mentor, now caught in a storm of forbidden feelings. Seventeen years older, his son’s best friend, and his athlete — but Niles has grown into someone impossible to ignore.
Their story is a slow unraveling of pain, trust, and connection. What starts with tension and resistance evolves into something tender, healing, and deeply erotic. Rebecca doesn’t shy away from the messy parts — she leans into them, and the result is a romance that feels real, raw, and revolutionary.
Rebecca, thank you for writing this story. For the representation, the honesty, and the heat. Full Split is a gift — and Niles and Wyatt will stay with me for a long time.

3.75 🌟 Love a good best friend’s dad romance but this one felt a bit rushed. When I read a taboo romance I want our main characters to fight their attraction/potential relationship and give in 50-75% through. Our MMCs gave in right away. Also, one of the MMC’s son was so upset and betrayed (rightly so) and they barely apologized to him and he was suddenly supposed to be immediately okay with the relationship. I enjoyed how strong one of the MMCs was as he had to face many obstacles, especially as a minority in sports. I also appreciated cameos/mentions of other characters from the previous books in the series🤸♂️
💙Gymnastics 💙Age Gap 💙Best Friend's Dad/Son's Best Friend
This book was everything!!! I’m a sucker for good best friends dad romance and anything forbidden and taboo but omg this book was so such more then that!!! It’s also touches on the hard reality that we are living in right now with the rise of bigotry and fascism it’s so important now more than ever that we have these conversations and these stories. This book was such an emotional read for me the strength of these characters and the community they have around them that supported and loves them every step of the way was everything! I adored Niles he is funny, strong and unstoppable when he put his mind to something. I related a lot to Wyatt character in the the way he felt about past relationships and the way felt l like something was wrong with him for not being interested and having to pretend this why I can’t stress enough how in important it is to have these conversations and have diverse characters in all forms of media!! maybe if I knew more about sexuality I wouldn’t have spent my high school years thinking something was wrong with me for being demi. This book was so beautifully written and handled with so much care. It’s definitely my favorite in the series now!!!
Full Split A Forbidden MM SPorts Romance Rebecca Rathe
Niles & Wyatt ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶
Age gap Elite Gymnast Forbidden romance Trans Masc. Rep Athlete & Coach
So this was everything
Rebecca rathe can do no wrong in my eyes
This story was incredible
To highlight and focus the challenges so many Trans people face in everyday life was challenging to read but so important to tell.
I loved how Niles had such support in his circle.
“You’re dangerous because you’re beautiful. Because you’re confident. Because you’re sharp and funny and everything about you makes it impossible to ignore you.” “That’s a lot of pretty words to say I make you hard.”
Wyatt saw Niles for the incredible man he is. Their love was so beautiful. So spicy too.
“For the record. It was you. It was always you. Then and now, you’ve always been my dream.”
I have loved this entire series, I love all Rebecca Rathes books lol But this was a special one for sure
Love is love, human is human, sheesh it hurt my heart to see what Niles had to go through
Such an incredible story
“I want you every which way I can have you,”
SO glad Niles and Wyatt found their way to each other.
This book left me completely and utterly speechless for a good few days. I have never felt so seen and understood before, I’m not trans but I am gender fluid and the way the Niles thinks and describes certain things as well as the exhausting fight to just exist the way he was meant to made me feel like I’m not alone and that somebody gets it. Even though me and Niles have different situations and identify differently, I feel like this is a very well thought out and researched character with how accurate the character thinks, feels, and the challenges he faces. Wyatt was also a truly amazing character with how open and accepting he is and god I absolutely melted over how loving he was and his own self discovery good lord quick somebody grab them up for the puddle I have melted into is making a mess! It was like these two were absolutely made for each they compliment each other perfectly. As for the story itself and the world building I’d give it a 10/10 wouldn’t change a thing the author has a gift for painting a mental picture that will have you hooked and unable to put it down and have you ravenous for more! I can’t wait to see what this author comes up with next in this series because each book in the series just gets better with every book!
Rating: 4/5 🌟 Spice: 3/5 🌶️ Characters: Niles and Wyatt
I adored these two together. Niles is a competitive gymnast and Wyatt is Weston's father. Weston is Niles's best friend. There is so much that I loved about this book. I adored Weston and how he was a true best friend and so supportive. The trans rep was incredible. And the way the age gap/forbidden aspect was handled was fantastic. Niles is such an amazing character. He was authentic, real, and a truly original character. I wanted the world for him. The romance and the steam were great, like always. I went into this one a little unsure. It could have been a very heavy book and given me that weight on my chest feeling, but it wasn't. It surprised me in the best way with showing the mostly joyful side of things and the support, and Nile's just being authentically himself.
This story was really well done. From having a trans masc character who faces obstacles from the outside world but who is so secure in who he is because of a safe and secure upbringing.
Age gap romances always have to be handled with care and that was definitely done in this book. This is a book that you need to read because it’s a perfect example of showing the nuances of bigotry that is part of a marginalized person’s lived experience without making it the only thing they ever experience.
4⭐️ Forbidden romance and a tale of perseverance and pride. This book follows Niles, a trans gymnast who, along with his best friend Weston, is skyrocketing in his career. Weston’s sexy dad, Wyatt is their biggest supporter. This book follows Niles and West as they give into their attraction to each other, and navigate situations that try to bring Niles down
You’re going to get: -best friend’s dad -trans MC -scandals and success -secret relationship -treehouse hookups
The dynamic between Niles and Wyatt was really fun, especially at the beginning when they were dancing around each other. Niles going after what he wanted, and Wyatt trying to be responsible was so much fun. The rest of the story interspersed their secret hookups with Niles and West’s career success, and scandals around a transphobic colleague. There is transphobia in this book, but it’s definitely outweighed by the awesome support and positive messages from most of the other characters. I wish the real world was this supportive.
I really loved having a trans MC and I liked Niles a lot. Though there wasn’t really much character development in this one, the MCs still showed deep love for each other. Though I found the plot to be a little stressful, it was still a happy story in the end.
A best friend's dad, age gap, sports romance that is so much more.
I initially picked up this book as it was an MM romance featuring my favourite sport, gymnastics. Add to that it also had a trans man MC and I was sold.
I wasn't sure what to expect but was far from disappointed in this amazing story of a trans athlete at the top of their sport, fighting for his right to compete but having so much support and love backing him. Niles is an amazing character. He recognises his privileged transition but still has to fight to be seen as the spectacular athlete he is.
This book has so much hope and love in it. It is a story I needed to read in this time of negativity towards trans people like me. Thank you so much Rebecca Rathe for writing Niles and Wyatt's love story and for giving Niles such an amazing best friend and ally in Weston.
Another great read from Rebecca Rathe! Her writing to me is so flawless, I love everything she puts out! The tension and chemistry between Niles and Wyatt from the beginning was off the charts! Absolutely love the evolution of their relationship and how Niles finally breaks through to Wyatt. The emotion in this one is real. Pretty sure some tears were shed, of all kinds. Rebecca also included so much that is relevant to our current political climate here. There were so many good things in the book I wish everyone could read. I love that this focused on Niles after his full transition and how he was making his way in the gymnastics world. Really enjoyed his and Weston's relationship and was glad West didn't make them suffer too long. :) Always fun to see characters from past books, as well.
I like Rebecca not only as an author, but also as a person. She cares about others and selflessly stands up for them. I really appreciate that! With this book, she has taken up a topic that is important to bring closer to people. And she did it very well and sensitively. I liked the story of Nilse and Wyatt. Niles comes across as cheeky, funny and wild, but also very sensitive and in need of love. He doesn't hide, he knows his needs and is good at showing and expressing them. But that also makes him vulnerable and open to attack. Wyatt's love for Niles is unconditional, his support and devotion is just great ❤️. But I also like the close relationship between Weston and Niles, I wish everyone had a friend like that! The Spice was excellent, as always 😉🥰🌶️! So go and read this great story, it's really worth it!
This book was so good! I finished it two days ago and it still hasn’t left my mind. Niles is such an amazing guy that knows exactly what he wants and goes for it. And Wyatt never stood a chance against Niles charms. They are so cute together and love each other so much. The push and pull at the beginning was the perfect amount of tension and when they finally give in 🥵 it was such an amazing love story to read
ugh i loved everything about this book! rebecca never fails to bring the emotions & the ABSOLUTE ANGST to forbidden stories & they get me every time! but what REALLY got me with this one…surprisingly, was that afterword. no kidding i cried! i love you rebecca for everything you stand for & the positivity you share in your inclusive stories!! they make it that much better!!
One thing about me, I’m going to immediately download any book by Rebecca Rathe! Full Split is another edition to the Forbidden Goals series (standalone MM). I know I say this every time but this one very well may be my favorite!! This is a forbidden romance between Niles and his BFF’s DAD, Wyatt. The story is packed with so many emotions and feelings and it’s great to see the confidence that Niles has for himself.
I’m also obsessed with the friendship between Niles and Weston. There is nothing better than a supportive best friends!
I don’t want to give away too much of the story line, but as always anything written by Rebecca is going to be fantastic and you’ll finish the story and think you’ve known these guys for your entire life.
The speeches in this book are absolutely legendary. This has outstanding trans rep and be sure to also read foreword and afterword, because they're just as meaningful as the book itself. I'm appalled by what's happening in the world. I wish everyone got to be their authentic selves and got the transition experience like Niles'. Overall, this series is absolutely amazing and you should immediately pick it up 🩷
Rebecca, you’ve done it again. This book is powerful. The LGBTQ+ representation is raw and real—not just the joy, but also the heavy reality of being in the public eye, where you’re constantly made to prove you belong. It’s thought-provoking, emotional, and yet still manages to be downright filthy in the best way.
Niles… oh Niles. He may just be one of my all-time favorite MMCs. His authenticity and strength are inspiring. At times I wanted to wrap him up in a blanket burrito to protect him from a world determined to break him, and at others I was cheering loudly for the unapologetic badass he is. Then there’s Daddy Wyatt—the rock, the ultimate support. Their relationship? A little taboo. But life isn’t black and white. We live in shades of grey, and what they share is unconventional, valid, and beautifully real.
This book made me feel everything—the joy, the pain, the heartbreak, the triumph. It even pushed me to learn more and reflect on things I wasn’t fully aware of. That’s the magic of Rebecca’s writing—it entertains, challenges, and stays with you.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5 stars. Check your triggers and prepare yourself for a Rebecca Rathe experience… which is always, without fail, a bloody great time.
The book was good but slow burn for sure with Wyatt & Niles. First time I read a book with gymnastics as the focus and it was really good. Did I understand any of the tasks? No but I learned a lot. Weston is such a great best friend to Niles who has so much support from everyone.
Very well written and had a lot of potential, but I sometimes characters are just too awkward and sheepish to handle. Especially when it’s an age gap romance and the older character is so uncertain and bumbling. Ugh.
Really wanted to like this - I have loved each of Rathe's previous books. I had a hard time connecting with the story and characters. Turns out that my IRL dislike for gymnastics transfers over to the written form. This is 100% a me problem, no shade to Rathe's writing.
Still, it is a well-written book, just not for me.
