DEAD IN THE WATER
When a hurricane slams into western North Carolina, Carver decides it's time to leave his remote mountain cabin and head to the beach.
Before he can get far, his pickup is taken out by a landslide, along with all of his weapons and equipment. Now he's on foot in gale force winds and pouring rain.
He soon discovers that the area is swarming with escaped prisoners and mercenaries using the storm as cover for an insidious plan. A plan that involves turning a natural disaster into a full-scale apocalypse.
Carver would rather be on the beach, but there's no way out. All the routes are blocked by landslides, washouts, flooded creeks, and fallen trees. And the mercenaries are kidnapping or shooting anyone on sight.
After Carver takes down a few of them, they realize that he's a direct threat to their plans and start a massive manhunt.
But they've made one major miscalculation. Carver isn't trapped in the hurricane with them. They're the ones trapped in the hurricane with him.

You know how some ads call books 'Pulse Pounding' and 'Exciting' and you shrug it off as just marketing lingo? Well, that's not the case here. This story grabs you right from the start and was pulse pounding!
All Carver wanted to do was leave a lake and forest behind and find a nice beach somewhere. But while heading out, he finds that he has to escape a hurricane. Working his way through landslides, rising waters, and falling trees, he comes across a family trapped in their vehicle. Carver stops to help them and things spiral badly out of control from there. Carver senses that something isn't 'right' about this family and something is off about the unusual devastation and landslides. Carver can't help but get involved, and his involvement leads to an absolutely thrilling and well written story. If you are a fan of thrillers that are truly exciting, grab this book, find some place where you won't be disturbed, and dive into this story. Better yet, if you haven't read this series from the start (lucky you!) pick up Dead Before Dawn, the first book of the series, and settle in for a wonderful binge read. I highly recommend this series.

Instead of being at the beach, Carver opted for the mountains of NC. He's been there a while but one day it's time to move. He's restless, a lake is not a beach.
The day he decides to go, a hurricane that was forecasted hits. This has never happened in the mountains. Downed trees, mudslides, roads missing are all in his path and he hardly gets going when he stops to help a family in trouble when his pickup and belongings are washed out by a landslide.
After helping the Aikens family back to their home, Carter decides to try to get back to his place. He's on foot in tennis shoes without his "tools aka weapons". His path crosses escaped felons & mercenaries placing explosives- something beyond a hurricane is happening here. Although he tries to stay out of what's going on, he somehow can't not help.
There are a lot of landslides, raging waters, downed trees, hiking in mud, rain, tunnels & avoiding bad guys over and over again in the plot. It was exhausting just thinking about it.
Since there was a recent hurricane in Asheville, NC it seemed true to life.

This is my favorite in the series so far.
I have been reading John Corwin books for many years. Most of his books are urban fantasy which is a genre I love. I'm not as fond of action adventure but this series has captured me because of the writing and character development. In the course of seven books we have learned that Carver really is a good person even if he doesn't want to admit it.
This book puts Carver in a position of having to save people during a natural disaster which turns out to have not so natural elements. Carver really wants to leave and get back to the beach and leave the people on their own, but he just can't leave when people are in danger. And there is the mystery to solve around who is using a natural disaster to cover up their own unsavory plans.

This is the best of all seven which I have read! I am from NC, and am very familiar with what happened! I resented the attachment of red neck to these people since I see them as salt of the earth people! Although you never gave the Governor a name; I have one for him, and it fits perfectly! Amos Carver is my hero and only wish he was not fictional! There are few books on Kindle that I would pay for but I would yours so keep writing you are a phenomenal writer!

Having lived through hurricane Helene, this book was so haunting with the possibilities of reality...and who knows, we may have had more truth in this story than fiction! There are parts that are based off real events, some that were openly reported in the news, so out of all the death and devastation in the North Carolina mountains it was a nice story to emerge from that. I found it a very enjoyable read!

Slower than the other Amos Carver books but still good
I enjoyed this book, however it moved slower than the other Amos Carver books, due to the need to set up the complicated storyline and the movement between locations in the plot taking a lot of pages between action. Still a good book and I will continue to read future books from the series.

There was a lot happening right now. He'd been shot at twice, found explosives where he shouldn't have, and discovered a laptop with military-strength hardware. He'd been attacked twice by escaped prisoners, sent two to their deaths and shot another in the leg. All in all, it had been a memorable couple of days, and it didn't look like his problems, or this hurricane would be ending anytime soon.

A really really good book!
It wasn't but one thing wrong with th book I couldn't put it down I didn't want to eat or sleep this was the best book I have read in a while if you like good books pick this one up! Thank John For win and Austin Rising!

Dead Weather Days is an interesting and enjoyable book. The plot and characters were intriguing. However, it was apparent that John Corwin had no experience and limited knowledge of C-4 explosives. None the less, I would recommend the book as a good read.
