Resolute: Dawn of Ruin Book 6:

Rate this book
Cheyenne Mountain is within reach - but even if Liam and Derek succeed in reaching it, they still have an even longer journey to reach home. Meanwhile, Desi and Adrian are left with virtually nothing as they make their way through West Virginia back to their family, who are struggling not only with the weather but with former neighbors turned hostile in Dawn of Ruin Book 6.

Brought to you by the #1 best-selling - and most prolific - post-apocalyptic author Mike Kraus, writing with best-selling author Stacey Upton, Dawn of Ruin is a gripping tale of survival, family and good versus evil in the face of an overwhelming natural disaster.

A firestorm rages across North America, destroying everything in its path.

In its wake, a lone firefighter survives the conflagration - but his survival and journey home is anything but assured.

In a quiet suburb, a young boy finds himself to be the only survivor in a city full of the dead.

On the other side of the country, a family watches the devastation grow closer, though the flames are not the most dangerous threat they face...

***

Extreme drought conditions in the West cause wildfires to spring out of control, tearing East across the country, destroying everything in their path. Caught in the midst of this firestorm, Liam Hayward - a smokejumper - is the only survivor of his unit. Injured and on his own, Liam's journey home means crossing a burned, irradiated wasteland where death may be the easiest way out.

In the Midwest, Liam's family watches the devastation growing ever closer, but the real danger comes from those around them. Panic grips the populace as the first ashes and embers rain down from the sky, and fire becomes a secondary danger as their fellow man will stop at nothing to try and stay safe - even if it means taking the lives of innocents.

A very satisfying conclusion!

Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2025

Resolute is the final book in the Dawn of Ruin series and is a fitting and satisfying conclusion to the series. The way everyone comes together is a bit complicated, but the satisfaction from finishing the series is second to none. Desi and Adrian face several new challenges as Rose tries to unite 3 disparate communities, who were once one community. Derek and Liam face several new hurdles as well, but I am not going to give spoilers. Just know, if you've been enjoying the series so far, you will not be disappointed with the finale! 5/5 stars!

I just finished reading all 6 Dawn of Ruin Thrillers.

They are aptly named. I read about a book a day until I got to book 6 that was just being published. The thrilling stories were back to back throughout. Character development was superb and I will miss each person. Even characters who had small roles in the book were memorable. I highly recommend this series! One of the joys was to discover that Yavapai County, AZ (where I currently reside) was part of the story. Buy the books, read them and enjoy the romp of truly well told tales. They will echo in my ears for some time.

This concludes what has been a generally very good series. I will admit to be frustrated by the cause of the disaster since there can be no real science to explain a west coast fire spreading across the country without abatement and then causing worldwide destruction (so the science is a 2 at best). However, the story of the impact to the people involved and their reaction was very good. This ended being a story of perseverance and resilience and we saw a lot of strong characters (Rose, Peter, Derek , Bunny especially) and a lot growth (I'm looking at you Adrian and Akemi). The ending of what happened some time after the various reunions was very, very satisfying (so I set aside my discomfort with the lack of a scientific explanation). The short message by the author regarding the ordeal by fire that she and her family endured was also a message of resilience and very much worth 5 stars.

Resolute - a review by Rosemary Kenny.

The last in the Dawn Of Ruin series by Stacey Upton and Mike Kraus, Resolute concludes the Haywoods' intense fight for survival, as the weather deteriorates and many conflicts arise.

Salvation seems far away for three generations of the family, and their new friends, all struggling to be reunited in a world gone mad.

This action-packed, post-

apocalyptic survival-thriller will keep you guessing, with all its many twists and turns...but who will make it?

Finally! I felt like I was waiting for so long for the conclusion of this series. So happy to see the family reunions! I loved seeing how Derek grew through out the series.
Poor Desi and Adrian really went thru it especially when they met those people in the tunnel. True grit got them home!
Excellent series!

This is the 2nd series I've read by Stacey Upton & Mike Kraus which I really enjoyed, the characters were brilliant. The other series Nowhere to Go was better in my opinion as Dawn of Ruin was a bit predictable, it's as if the authors had hit on a winning formula & so repeated it! Even so I loved the characters & learned a lot about the different states the survivors travelled through & also survival skills which may come in handy one day!
I've read book 1 of Foliant by Mike Kraus but not sure if I'll continue with this series!

Thrilling Ride

Amazing series. A real page turner full of interesting characters. I'm amazed how the author can turn a hugely unlikeable character at the beginning of the series into a somewhat favourite character at the end. You know whom I'm talking about. Great writing and a thrilling ride.

Awesome Series!

This is my very favorite of the many survival books and series I've read. It just draws you into each storyline as you journey with them. I laughed and cried throughout and hated to see it end, but what a ride it was! Loved the ending!

Great series, so many things going on. So well written. Rose Peter were amazing grand parents. Super nice family. It was sad in some parts but very happy in others. It’s one of those books you don’t want it to end. The series is well worth it to read.
