Alex Spanos Co was the largest builder of multifamily in the 1970s. Well worth the read for the student of real estate. This book contains some gold nuggets. I am going to keep on my real estate book shelve for reference. I also like the fact he owned the San Diego Chargers- golf partner of Bob Hope, etc.
Very entertaining autobiography. It is the first book about a real state entrepreneur that I read, and it didn’t disappoint. I read it pretty quickly and got some valuable tips!
The story of how a poor Greek kid grows up to start a sandwich cart that he parlays into one of the largest real estate holding companies in the United States, and ultimately buys the San Diego Chargers. Truly inspirational story of how real estate and small business creation can accelerate wealth creation, and help you achieve the American dream -- even if you start with nothing.
This book is a good book, not great, but good enough to read. Mr. Spanos gives valuable life lessons and virtues that helped lead him to where he is today. Although my purpose of reading this book wasn't really for pleasure, I got quite a bit of pleasure out of it.
Excellent book about a self made man. I read this approxamately 10 years ago. He started out with an electric meat slicer making bologna sandwitches for migrant workers in southern Calafornia. He became a relestate developer and owner of the San Diego Chargers.
Great book. I wish they would update it to include the previous 10 years of his life. Great rags to riches story, I wish they got more into the details of his business ventures.
"How will you know when you've found your purpose in life? Simply look to your heart. Do you love your work? If the answer is no, then you haven't found your purpose, no matter the size of your paycheck. When work doesn't seem like work, when you do it purely because you derive pleasure from it, that's when you've found your purpose in life." (Alex Spanos, Sharing the Wealth: My Story, Page 230)
"Every success is comprised of a myriad of small, incremental, step-by-step goals. The slow and steady achievement of these goals will advance your cause and provide the emotional satisfaction of knowing that you're getting somewhere." (Alex Spanos, Sharing the Wealth: My Story, Page 232)
Billionaire, Alex Spanos, writes his life story thus far at 70 years old. The year he finished the final draft of this book is 2001. His final dream, according to his book, is that his team, the San Diego Chargers, would win the Super Bowl. I checked google and this dream is still not a reality (April, 2017). His team under his ownership did; however, make it to the Super Bowl with the 49ers in 1994. There is no doubt in my mind that this man will persevere until this dream becomes a reality.
All chapters tell his life story. In the last chapter I found the most value. It is titled The Fundamentals of Success. In this chapter is summed up golden words of wisdom he has learned for business, life and success.
