A.K. Evans is a contemporary romance author of over twenty published novels. While she enjoys writing a good romantic suspense novel, Andrea’s favorite books to write have been her extreme sports romances. That might have something to do with the fact that she, along with her husband and two sons, can’t get enough of extreme sports.
Before becoming a writer, Andrea did a brief stint in the insurance and financial services industry and managed her husband’s performance automotive business. That love of extreme sports? She used to drive race cars!
When Andrea isn’t writing, she can be found homeschooling her two sons, doing yoga, snowboarding, reading, or traveling with her family. She and her husband are currently taking road trips throughout the country to visit all 50 states with their boys.
This started so good and I was sure it was going to be a 5 star review because who doesn't like a 2nd chance where both MCs were celibate and an MMC who was so in love with FMC that he couldn't even look at another woman for 8 whole years?
So what went wrong? See below but be warned - 🫸🏼⚠️SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!⚠️🫷🏼
MCs were HS sweethearts. They were - and still are in the present - each other's first and only. When heroine was 18 years old and just out of HS, Hero decided to propose to her because he loved her so much and wanted forever with her. However, heroine turns him down and leaves town and is gone for 8 years!
Why did she leave you say? Well for one of the stupid reasons I've ever read.
Heroine sent him 3 letters in the first year she was away without explaining anything and with just an "I'm Sorry". On the 3rd letter, she tells him to move on in his life. She did this because in her head she thought she would make it big immediately in NY. How? Who knows especially as she didn't even go to college and had zero experience in anything. So she stayed in NY struggling to make ends meet by working in a movie theater or Broadway theater as a ticket manager or something like it. Makes enough money to pay rent but not enough to save and have money in the bank.
Hero, hurt and unable to move on as he couldn't understand what he did wrong, spent 8 years focusing on work and his family and shut down his emotions. He had no interest in dating or hooking up with any OW because in his heart it was always heroine! See? Right there is what we all need in our fictional romances and hence for the 3 stars.
In the present, heroine comes home to take care of her Mother because she was in a car accident and the coward she is, she tries very hard to avoid Hero because she thinks he would rightfully be mad at her for hurting him and may have moved on with someone else. She never seeks to get confirmation or pursue him in any way, just hides constantly and acts like the coward she is. I can't tell you how frustrated I was with this FMC throughout the story.
She was constantly telling him "I'm sorry" for hurting him but then would say something like "I only came back for my Mother" or "I never intended to come back", etc. and is always either pushing him away or running away. And she had the gall to be hurt whenever he was upset with her! If he expressed any anger of what she did or didn't do, she would say something like "he is not the boy I once knew and loved" or she would cower like a rabbit and hightail it out there. If she was abused or he abused her, I could understand. But this? Ugh. No way. Lol.
And she kept stumping on his heart over & over again up until the very end and poor Hero kept being hurt again and again. Honestly, it came to a point at 70% or so where I wanted him to find someone else. When he finally got fed up at the end and told her that he had enough and that if she left again he wouldn't follow her and would move on with someone else, I cheered for him! Lol. Also, we learn that in the 8 years they were apart, she returned several times to see her Mother but never once attempted to seek him out and he was devastated. Did she care? Nope.
I could go on and on with how much this FMC frustrated me but I won't because she was just so unlikable to me. Author wrote the MMC so well that I don't understand why she made this FMC so unlikable. She was a selfish cow throughout who was willing to walk away from him in past & present and not value the gift he was giving her - one of true love & devotion. She had to be constantly pushed to talk to him or go after him by others. I hate fictional character who act so selfish and are so clueless & cowardly. This one hit my nerves and then some! But what ticked me off the most is the fact that as a reader, we never really feel she truly loves him as much he does her. It just felt too one-sided to me. Also, what is up with his family being so forgiving and nice to her? I would have ripped her head off if someone did that to my loved one! Only his brother at the end gave it to her straight and I cheered him on! He told her to "make things right". To do the work as she was the one in the wrong - not his brother.
BTW, she never would have seeked Hero on her own to patch things ups and there was no grovel. No big attempt to make things right. Just a pathetic attempt of a non-apology and an agreement to stay put. And author, after they supposedly make up, takes us several times into the future of months out where we end up a year or so later with them getting married and The End.
This was like the verse roles where we typically have the Hero acting this way but this FMC came across as a robot at times and very dense & selfish. I truly hated her and couldn't find anything to like about her at all. She didn't even grovel for Pete's sake! Lol.
Anyway, as I said, my enjoyment here was only with the Hero. I loved this MMC. I loved how devoted & true he was to her in past & present when she didn't deserve it. I just wished he had found a different FMC who deserved a great guy like him. Also, the conflict of reason she left never gets resolved BTW and the ending was too bland and unsatisfactory for me.
Quotes:
“You could have fooled me. You keep saying you’re sorry, but it doesn’t mean anything. I’m only hearing words. Meaningless words. Being sorry would have meant coming back and actually seeking me out. Being sorry would have been offering an explanation. Being sorry would have been taking action to fix what you’d done.” --- “I’ve spent eight years watching my brother disappear. The guy you might remember him being is gone. He’s still around in the physical sense, and he puts forth tremendous effort to celebrate the big moments in the lives of his family members, of the people he loves, but he’s a shell of himself.”
“A few weeks ago, my brother came to me and asked for me to cover for him at work, because he believed he was getting a shot at a second chance with you. He was going to do whatever it took to grab hold of that opportunity and make every effort to ensure things didn’t go south. I remember him coming back to work not long after and seeing an immeasurable change in him. For the first time in eight years, there was a spark there. Hope. And I thought it was possible he was finally going to get the one thing that’s mattered most to him. I don’t know what happened that night when you two got together, but whatever it was, it destroyed him worse than it did the day you rejected his proposal. So, I can only assume that you really don’t know what it is that you’re giving up?”
I’m aware what being married to a Westwood would mean for me.”
His eyes narrowed. “That you said a Westwood and not Liam tells me you don’t have a clue.”
“Excuse me?” Maybe I’d been right to feel intimidated by Cooper.
“That man would die for you,” he declared. “Some might say he already did. Because he’s not the same. He hasn’t been since you left. When I asked you if you understood what you were giving up, I wanted to know if you realized just how far Liam would go to make you happy. He loves you. Liam loves you in a way I know he’ll never feel whole again without you.”
---- “I’d always assumed that you’d be okay. I never doubted that you’d be hurt by me leaving and turning down your proposal, but I suspected you’d be alright in the end, because you had your family and friends around you. But this… I thought I was alone all these years.” I closed my eyes and sighed. “It was you who was alone.”
“I’m okay with that, though, because I didn’t want to move on with anyone.”
“You were gone for a long time. Over the years, opportunities arose for me to move on. I was approached on more than one occasion by women who were willing to hook up randomly for a night or to find something serious with. “In those moments, my thoughts drifted to you. But I wasn’t sitting there thinking about how I wished it was you approaching me. I sat there feeling sick about you, wondering about you and your new life. And I couldn’t do it. The thought of being with anyone else was never an option. But I spent so many nights in this room speculating. Wondering where you were, what you were doing, and who you were with. I thought about the future I had wanted for us, and I couldn’t stop myself from thinking about the woman you had grown into. I was constantly curious about who you’d be when you got old, and I was worried about who the man would be to steal your heart.”
Safety:
No OW/OM Celibate MCs Each other's one and only and first everything. No cheating HEA with marriage
SELF NOTE❌ — mostly likely avoid. FMC doesn’t pursue or come back for MMC after initial separation. He is heartbroken & faithful while she doesn’t come back for him. The circumstances leading her to come back (outside of control) are only reason they get together (she wouldn’t have sought him out). MMC deserved better.
I was really disappointed in this book. Liam deserves so, so much better than Layla. I don’t think one human being should ever give another human being that much power over them. He needed higher self-esteem. To value himself as a man.
I would’ve liked to have seen his rejected heart healed by another woman who would come into his life, who would break down his barrier, really heal him, and give him healthy, wholehearted love.
Not his selfish, self-centered, self-absorbed, self caring ex-girlfriend Layla. She did not deserve a second chance. And she did not deserve Liam. What a piece of work she was!
And while I’m enjoying this author’s writings in general, I’m always puzzled by the huge gaps in time she puts on her characters. One of them hadn’t had a single date for over a decade, this couple spent 8 years apart. The gaps are just too big. I could understand if Liam and Layla had spent maybe 5 years estranged - at the most. But she has her characters wasting too much of their lives.
But I am really disappointed that she would have her character to go back to someone who had abused him, thrown him away like he was worthless. Why would any human being ever take someone back who treated them as disposable?
Maybe, just maybe the story would’ve been slightly more palatable if the author had Layla return to Liam, specifically for Liam, of her own accord. Instead she tells him she would’ve never come back if her mother had not been in the car accident! Wow! That really let Liam know that he was not worth the time and effort.
While the story technically had a happy ending, it was not the ending I would like to have seen. I was not rooting for this couple to reconcile. What I was really hoping for was for Liam to get out of his own head, to have some self-worth, and to meet a really wonderful woman who had the heartfelt love and mentality that she could not imagine her life without him.
𝐑𝐞𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 is the 5th book in the Westwoods series by A.K. Evans, featuring a heartbreakingly emotional second chance romance for Liam and Layla! She shattered his heart 8 years ago without an explanation, now she’s back in town for a family emergency and is forced to face the devastation she left behind in the new Liam. Is there hope after so much time and pain has festered?
Ok, wow! Liam I’ve had my eye on Liam for awhile, and I knew his story would be a doozy, but this man wrecked me! All that raw emotion and unrequited love for all that time?! Gah! I lLoved him, even as he brought me to tears!😩🥰 I had some trouble connecting to Layla at first, though, as her excuses didn’t fully work for me. Maybe when she was a confused 18 year-old, but to continue to grind it out for years without changing course the tiniest bit for 𝘩𝘪𝘮? Plus, everyone was over-the-topway too forgiving! If someone did to one of my older brothers what she did, I would have had to say my pieciece, before I welcomed her back!😂 But I’m a country girl from WV, so maybe it’s a cultural thing.😂 They did have a beautiful connection and chemistry, and I enjoyed them together, especially since it made Liam happy., and the Westwood family banter and relationships were a major highlight as usual! Liam as an uncle? Total heart stealer!😍 I can’t wait to read Jules’ story next!
I received an ARC for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶
In this latest installment of the Westwood series, we finally get Liam’s story. I knew it would be emotional, but I didn’t expect the kind of weight he’s been carrying since such a young age.
Liam and Layla met in high school and were very much an opposites-attract couple. Of course, he’s a Westwood, and while Layla wasn’t exactly from the wrong side of the tracks, it was just her and her mom trying to get by. Layla was always a little guarded with Liam and her feelings for him—and she seemed to stay that way through the entire three years they dated. She kept him at arm’s length, and when he finally made his big move, she ran.
I liked both Liam and Layla—though I’ll admit, I liked Liam a bit more. Most of the story focuses on the two of them grieving what they lost and being unable to move on. If I had one gripe, it’s that we spent a lot of time stuck in the past—so much longing and regret—only to get a pretty quick resolution in the end. I was more interested in seeing them navigate things as adults.
That said, the book is still a great read. The whole Westwood family is present and accounted for, chiming in whether their input is wanted or not. They’re a tight-knit bunch, and it was interesting to see whether Layla could fit back into that dynamic. There’s one sister left—Jules—and I’m already excited to see what kind of trouble she stirs up in her book!
A.K. Evans never fails to deliver stories that dig deep into the heart, and Rejected Heart, the fifth book in her emotionally rich series, is perhaps her most heart-wrenching and heartfelt yet. Whether she’s writing romantic suspense or stories of healing and second chances, Evans has a way of capturing raw emotion with grace—and this story is a standout.
This book tells the deeply moving second-chance romance of Layla and Liam Westwood. Once young and deeply in love, their future seemed certain—until fear and doubt led Layla to walk away, believing it was the right thing to do. But time didn’t dull the ache. Eight years later, she’s back in home looking after her mom and so is the man whose heart she broke.
Liam Westwood has been a quiet presence in the series—steadfast, loyal, and impossible not to fall for. I’ve loved him from the sidelines in earlier books, and seeing him finally step into the spotlight to get the love he’s always deserved absolutely warmed my heart.
This is a slow-burn romance with beautifully built tension, heat, and emotional depth that left me breathless more than once. Ms Evans captures the pain of lost love and the hope of rediscovery in a way that feels both relatable and deeply romantic.
Rejected Heart isn’t just a second-chance romance—it’s a testament to the kind of love that survives heartbreak, time, and distance. Powerful, poignant, and utterly satisfying.
The Westwoods series is one where you think the book you just read is the best of the series until you read the next one. Well, this happened to me because Rejected Heart is my all-time favourite. MS. Evans never disappoints with her storylines and characters. She writes a story that is flawless, emotional, intriguing and one that will live forever in your heart. Rejected Heart is Liam Westwoods' story and I have been waiting for his story since the first book in this series. I knew he was going to get me emotional and wanting to give him the biggest hug and tell him that he will find the love of his life. The only thing is that his heart belonged to Layla, the person who ripped it out of him and took it with her. Communication was their biggest downfall, which led to Layla shattering his heart and turning his world upside down. Eight years later, she returns and the love that had always been there but pushed so far down, Liam didn't know if he could love and trust her again. The two of them loved one another from day one and deep down, the love they shared was still there but needed a push to the surface. Right from the start, I was pulled in by the story of their past and how it moulded who they were in the present. Love knows no boundaries and doesn't have an expiration date for Liam and Layla.
After four strong installments, Rejected Heart was a major letdown—especially considering how much Liam Westwood’s story had been teased throughout the series. His arc had so much potential, but the execution left me frustrated and, honestly, furious on his behalf.
Liam proposes at eighteen to the love of his life, Layla, only for her to walk away without a word and disappear for eight years. She doesn’t return to Landing out of choice, but because of her mother’s accident. Meanwhile, Liam spends nearly a decade as a shell of himself, haunted by her abandonment. For a man who has consistently come across as a gem—devoted, loyal, and deserving of someone who puts him first—this was a brutal setup.
The problem is that Layla doesn’t pay enough for what she did. There’s little accountability, minimal groveling, and it feels like she gets away with years of heartbreak far too easily. Yes, the book ends in a happily ever after, but it doesn’t feel earned. Liam deserved so much more than the scraps of love she offered after nearly a decade of silence.
This was the most enraged I’ve ever felt toward a female lead in the series, and while I pushed through to the end, I was left more angry than satisfied. Disappointing and unbalanced, Rejected Heart is easily the weakest book in the Westwoods series.
We are back with the Westwood siblings, who little by little have found love. This time Liam, whom we have met in other stories in the series, finally gets his story. Eight years ago, Liam Westwood and Layla Snow were HS sweethearts . But that all changed when she walked away. Leaving a devastated and brokenhearted Liam . A shell of himself, even nowadays. Fast forward to the present and Layla is back in town due to a family emergency. Back to the place she had no plans of returning. Will they be able to reconnect and heal old hurts? The rollercoaster of emotions was at times heartbreaking as well as heart wrenching. This listener has to confess that as much as I love Liam, I had a hard time with Layla. Warming up to her was not easy and frequently I wanted to “march up to her” and give her a lecture about how her treatment of young Liam, changed the boy and the man he became. As always, it was wonderful to “see” how the Westwood siblings supported each other. Lastly, the narrations of Jason Clarke and Ava Erickson, brought the story to life. I was entrusted a copy of this audiobook. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Liam has been key to helping his brother and sister go for love in the previous books in the series, but he, himself, was never happy. In Rejected Heart, we get to find out his story. We are hit with all his emotions in ways not typical of romance novels. It is gut wrenching and you can't help but want to wrap him up in your arms and tell him it will be okay. I love that his family understand and accept him without trying to change him. He becomes the beloved, fun uncle to his niece. Layla is a bit hard to like, but I get her point. Her mother was a stay at home mom whose husband left her with nothing. Her mother struggled and Layla wanted to make sure she had something to fall back on. Unless you have lived in that kind of poverty, it is hard to understand why she would feel so strongly about that. Her point of view is kind of hard to take because she didn't talk to Liam and tell him anything. It took Liam exploding at his brothers and Cooper going to see Layla to get it through her head she was destroying this man. The narration was perfect for this. Liam's pain and anguish was brought to life in a way that made it seem real.
Liam and Layla, I've waited for this book and Andrea sure didn't disappoint! 100% Recommended. Through the first 4 books I've been waiting to find out why Liam has a deep sadness to him. Liam's story is special and one you don't want to miss! He seems so insightful with his siblings and always leads them in the right direction with relationships. I now get to know what happened with him and Layla. I love this family, so understanding and forgiving. First, Liam's back-story of how he met Layla and how they fell in love. She had issues she never explained to him, but she did mention things he kept saying would fall into place, but they didn't. After 8 years apart she comes home from Manhattan, only an hour and half away from Landing PA. Her mother had a horrible accident and need Layla to come home and help her recover and run her consignment shop. He has waited for her and never moved on, she was his first and he hoped his last. Thank you Andrea for a heartbreaking story with an extraordinary HEA! I received this book as an ARC reviewer and voluntarily leave my honest opinion.
Liam Westwood thought he had his life figured out- and that included spending it with Layla. They were high school sweethearts with their future ahead of them. There was no doubt that Layla loved Liam but for her she wanted to be able to prove something to herself. Breaking Liam’s heart wasn’t part of the plan but she did. She just didn’t realize the devastation she left behind. Now Layla is back in Landing and Liam must deal with the past. I love a good second chance romance. Liam and Layla must work through their insecurities and past if they ever had hope for a future. Liam has been the brooding Westwood sibling and how his family are ready to see him thrive again. Layla has a lot of internal emotions to work through but reading them work through their emotions and memories. Sometimes I wanted to shake my head at Layla’s decisions but when you are young, sometimes things only make sense to you. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and I love the love and support the Westwood siblings have for each other. This series has been amazing and I can’t wait for the next one!
Layla’s guilt is so consuming that it feels cloying at times. And while her reasons seem flighty, the bone-deep fear that caused her to run and keep running somehow went unnoticed for eight long years. Not until a slip of the tongue do those fears get thrown into the light. But she never really moved on. Existed but didn’t live. Until now.
Liam and his misery are palpable also. But now we really understand it and why it was so soul-crushing for him. This is a man who is truly meant for his One and Only, and until she comes back to him, he remains a shell. But the work still needs to be done. Trust needs to be rebuilt, conversations need to happen, and fears need to be confronted.
While the Westwoods are a tad nosy, they also mean well. They don’t blame. They support and love and welcome Layla back and wait for her to share her reasons. And the first one to welcome her back is the one sibling we have left to find forever with, so I sort of can’t wait for that to happen.
It’s said time heals all wounds. For Liam and Layla, those emotional wounds are still as fresh as the day they happened. The two being high school sweethearts, Liam ready to start forever with Layla, but she ends things with Liam. She never gives him the reason as to why. When she returns home eight years later, they both want to rekindle the love they still have for each other. But first, she needs to tell Liam why she left in the first place.
I truly enjoyed Liam and Layla’s story. While I didn’t agree with Layla’s reasoning for leaving, I could also see why she did as well. She had such growth while they were apart. Liam was also so understanding and loving in the past and when Layla returned, even being heartbroken and unsure, he still wanted to rekindle that relationship. I received an ARC of Rejected Heart. I voluntarily read and reviewed it. All opinions are my own.

This book….THIS BOOK…I just can’t say enough about it….Sigh.
Rejected Heart - part of the Westwood Series by A.K. Evans - is a heartbreakingly good book. I cried many times throughout reading it, but couldn’t help but root for them along the way.
Layla and Liam are one of my favorite couples thus far in this series. They were high school sweethearts…but due to fear and lack of communication, they parted ways and both were excruciatingly broken. BUT circumstances beyond their control bring these long lost lovers back together after 8 years apart. This emotional book keeps you guessing throughout their story.
Will Layla and Liam get their second chance at romance and be able to find their way to the future they both have longed for? I highly recommend reading the story to find out.
It’s been eight years since Layla left her hometown and her first and only love Liam. She allowed the insecurities from her past to damage the love they shared and now that she finds herself back in her hometown for her family she will have to face the past and the man she hurt.
Liam has never been able to move past the devastation he felt when Layla left. Seeing again brings up all the pain and the feelings he has always had for her but will this be their second chance or are they destined for heartbreak once again?
Layla may have been misguided and caused unnecessary pain to both her and Liam, but she couldn’t see another path forward. Despite the turmoil of the past the love they have for each other is stronger than ever and they are surrounded by a loving family who are always there to assist.
Liam's story was one I was anxious to read and it didn't disappoint. I listened to this on audio and the way Jason Clarke brought the raw emotion in Liam's story to life was truly exceptional. In the beginning, I had a harder time connecting with Layla. It felt like she just left without having a conversation about how she felt. I had to remind myself she was barely an adult at the time and running purely on emotions and fear. Later on in the story I connected with her reasoning on such a deep, real level that I absolutely felt and related to everything. Liam's heartbreak was so utterly painful to listen to, but this man did not waiver one second on his love for this girl. 8 years?! That is TRUE LOVE. This one really shows if it's real love, no amount of time, space, or heartache will keep you apart.
Liam has been so sad and broken from the very beginning of the series. I was a little nervous starting his story because I wanted the best for him. The best was delivered! Liam and Layla meet in high school during a field trip. From that day they are practically inseparable. Unfortunately, Layla’s fears cause her to run away and separate the two for years. This is a beautiful second chance romance story. I loved his and Lana’s story. I loved how they were both able to get over their past fears and heartbreak to be able to find each other a second time. This is a wonderful series. Each story is different, and perfect for the characters involved. This was no different. Liam’s story was perfect for him, and his evolution through the story was fun to read.
This is the fifth book in this phenomenal series, and this is Liam and Layla’s story. These two were high school sweethearts, until a lack of communication had Layla leaving town. Liam is a shell of the man he used to be after losing Layla, and now 8-years later a family emergency has her returning home, and she must face the devastation she left behind. This is a well written easy to read, emotional roller coaster, with family, friendships, heartbreak, tension, miscommunication, second chances, soulmates, humor, witty banter, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, and haunting, small-town romance. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
We have read about Liam and we knew his story would be one of heartbreak but wow!!!
Rejected Heart is book 5 in the Westwoods Series.
Jason Clarke and Ava Erickson are incredible together and these two being the voices of Liam and Layla really brought out the characters!
If you love second chances then this is the perfect book for you. Liam and Layla were together for 3 years and everyone thought they were it for each other but Layla got scared, not wanting to stay in the small town, she fled to NY. Liam never got over Layla even 8 years later. Determined to never put himself out like that again, Liam kept to himself.
A.K. Evans did a great job with Liam and Layla and I have to say, I was pro Liam more so, than Layla on this one!!!
OMG this was another great book. It was a steamy page turner and the suspense was so intense. I was on the verge of my seat and I couldn't even put it down. The book cover caught my attention as I saw the book. Liam and Layla chemistry was sexual desire of passion and the physical attraction was spicy of hottness of forbidden romance. It was like a cat and mouse games when he catch her. She is going to be his forever in this moment and right now. I highly recommend this book and you won't be disappointed. I received advance copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving my honest review. Trina Jones
Oh Liam broken and feeling rejected at such a young age. The last how many years since Layla left him, he was watched all of his brothers and sister fall in love and get married. When would he get that and feel the love they all do? one bad car accident brings a certain someone back to town to help care for her mom. All these years Liam and even his family always wondered where Layla had gone so they were all shocked to hear from Jules she was home. Liam had alot to get off his chest. but both of them never in all these years stopped loving each other. Will they make up and love happily ever after???
Layla and Liam have been a pair since freshman year in high school. She can't believe Liam is spending time with her, but soon they are inseparable. Fast forward to summer after graduation. Liam proposes and Layla says no. She leaves Landing for NYC. She needs to prove to herself that she can make it on her own. Yet she has no college degree or any real experience to make it big. She sends Liam letters saying she's sorry but not explaining why she left. For eight years, Liam has been devastated. He's been living in his family's hotel and maintaining their amusement park. Layla returns to Landing to help her mom recover from an accident. They finally have that convo about why she left and how bereft Liam has been since then. I get it. I get her reasons, but I also don't. They were young...18, with the whole world in front of them. For all the time they spent together, I would think they had real conversations, the raw and deep ones where you pour out your soul. And in the end, what did her leaving prove? This was a good second chance romance.
Ava Erickson and Jason Clarke were amazing narrators for this story. They got the characters' personalities to shine and brought the emotions that were evident in every interaction the characters had.
I received a complimentary copy of the audiobook at my request and voluntarily left this review.
While this story seemed sad at the beginning, it was one of the many emotions that I felt while reading this book. Layla walks away from the man she has loved since childhood. Liam is heartbroken and has never moved on yet when she returns, emotions between both come to the surface. All I could think of while reading their story was to just communicate and when they finally did, all the heartache, tears and their love for each other bubble to the surface and begin to overflow. A beautiful second change love story that proves it’s never too late to begin again.
A heartfelt second-chance romance filled with regret, longing, and emotional growth. Layla Snow returns to her hometown carrying the weight of the mistake that cost her the man she loved. Liam Westwood has never truly recovered from her leaving, and when fate brings them back together, old wounds reopen. The chemistry is still there, but so is the pain. Set in a small town where everyone knows everything, this story pulls you in with its raw emotion and the slow, tender unraveling of trust. A satisfying, emotional read—just wish we had a little more depth into Layla’s side of the story.
I have been waiting for Liam’s story for soo long… Liam and Layla shared a love not many find in their teens but young hearts are fragile, like their minds and their insecurities. Layla runs away from their future and Liam’s heart shatters forever. When life brings Layla back to Liam’s orbit, so long have passed that it feels like it will be difficult to overcome all the hurt and guilt. Their story of second chances and forgiveness was narrated by Jason Clarke as Liam, raw and emotional, and Ava Erickson as Layla, young and hopeful but lost.
Liam has held a special place in my heart since the first book. The Westwood family is truly something special; I wish they could exist in real life and be a part of my family. I wanna be a Westwood so bad!! :) The Westwood couples’ HEAs, from the grandparents down, have all been wonderful, and I’m completely in love with this series!
That being said, I knew, even before I started reading his story, that it would break my heart. The raw emotion on each page was palpable. I felt Liam’s emotions intensely all series, and I was driven to find out what had happened. The story and its smooth flow hooked from the very first page, the pages turning themselves. This author masterfully captured the anticipation, nervousness, and excitement of Liam and Layla’s developing teenage love, making me feel it alongside the characters. Their connection was fantastic and utterly adorable. And then - their world imploded, and Liam’s fate left me heartbroken.
This is why I adore this author. Her writing allows me to escape into these character’s lives, and feel ALL the feels. The absolute giddiness at finding “the one”, to the unfathomable grief when you realize that dream is not to be, and running through all the emotions in-between made for an excellent read. For me, this isn’t as steamy as some others from this author, but it is absolutely full of angst, longing, love, and regret, and makes this hard to stop reading this book. I highly recommend reading this series in order, so the situations align and you avoid spoilers. Believe me, when this couple FINALLY gets it figured out, their HEA is wonderful.
This is a heart-warming and utterly heart-breaking read that I absolutely loved. Don’t miss out on the rest of this author’s compelling works; check out their complete catalog when you’ve finished this one. Her creative and original works are addictive, steamy, entertaining and unforgettable.
I cannot WAIT for Jules to find her forever next. I was fortunate to receive an ARC (thank you) and happily leave my thoughts.
From Young love and heart break, to true love and forever. This book is an emotional journey of heart break & growing pains, forgiveness & reconnecting, and love & trust. Emotions blanket you like a cold misty fog on a dreary day, that is eventually broken by that first ray a sunshine followed by blue skies and a sunny aftermath. Strong character development ,fantastic world build and well written words make this book a must read.
I loved this story of Liam and Layla! We have seen Liam throughout this series and saw how broken hearted he was. Now we finally get the backstory of what went on with him and Layla. The love that these two had for each other was amazing. So glad they finally got their second chance, although it wasn't easy. Then again, things that are truly worth it never are. I love this book and series. I highly recommend! I can't wait for Jules story!!
