This book is a first hand account of life in Bosnia by a CAF doctor over the course of an eight-month deployment. It’s very readable, full of anecdotes, interesting facts and insights about one of Canada’s greatest peace keeping efforts. As a medical advisor to the CO, Dr. Ménard shares his perspective on the Army, the Canadian Contingent Stabilizing Force and the amazing Humanitarian Aid Operation Shoebox, that Canadian soldiers provided over that time. This is an account that will leave you very proud and humbled by the sacrifices made by the CAF soldiers to make the world a better place. As a bonus, Dr. Menard’s diary shares real insight into the strategies he used to maintain his (and his fellow soldier’s) mental health. Exercise, faith, family and keeping a wonderful sense of humour in incredibly difficult circumstances. A rich read, I recommend to everyone.
