Beck: Driving away from the scene of a crime I've just perpetrated in a millionaire's house is bound to cause trouble. That’s to be expected, though; I'm always in trouble. What I don't expect, however, is for two beautiful green eyes to find mine as I speed off in my stolen vehicle, hundreds of miles from home.
Now that she’s seen my face, I can't just let her go. But what the hell do I do with this gorgeous, sassy, untouchable woman?
Mazzy: I've had a difficult life, and all I want is to be left alone to live out the rest of it in peace. What I really don't need is some charming, manipulative, hot-as-hell bad boy to take my car with me in it, while trying to get away from the boatload of trouble he's involved in. Unfortunately, I've never had very good luck, and that's exactly where I've found myself.
But I've been surviving my whole life. I'll survive Beck DeLuca, too.
Christina B. Rose lives in the New York suburbs with her hubby, her daughter, and her son. When she’s not nurturing the minds of America’s tiny humans, she’s writing dark romance stories with vivacious, tragic heroines and the deep, dark heroes that love them. She realizes that this is quite the contrast.
She loves to teach, sing, read, and make dumb jokes. She believes that life is simply too short not to have fun and be ridiculous most of the time.
I liked this a lot. It was a different take on most mafia books that I’ve read. Great banter, lots of chaos and suspense, and some really great supporting characters like the couple that takes care of Beck’s house.
It wasn’t as hardcore bad boy as most mafia reads out there though it is insinuated that they are in fact a Mafia not to be messed with but the writing of the characters almost made them more frat boy like lol. They were playboys, master manipulators, and the Don was truly just a spoiled brat with power.
I felt awful for Mazzy because her entire life was just one big trauma fire. Her story was really intriguing because it kept unraveling the whole way through the book. She was a little spit fire but also poor girl was the queen of being involved accidentally in really awful things.
This was most definitely one of those painful slow burns of a book 😂. I could have used a bit more spice to be totally honest. I was kind of getting annoyed with their cat and mouse game but I guess it made sense for their situation.
I’m not excited to see where Christina takes this story!
Can’t say I’ve seen anything from this author before Lauren Biel posted about her. I added it to my list cos I sometimes like to add a little mafia rom to my reads…lol who am I kidding if you know me, you know I read all sorts depending upon my fancy at the time 🤷🏻♀️
Just…well, it’s a well paced mafia romance not that you get that from the beginning, though it does come out quite soon on his part. It’s a little like a reverse hitch hiker 🤣 They are encompassed in a vehicle for a road trip to NYC though that doesn’t go off without a hitch (get it? 🤣) She is not having any of it but they do eventually chat, things progress when they stop at a motel 🤭 From here we have a lot happening, running into other Mafia. Getting back to his place, their whole world takes a turn, betrayal felt, lies told, mafia from other cities involved with one another…where does one stop and another begin? The intrigue and suspense is string with this one 🤣
Seriously, the writing pulled me in and kept hold of me I couldn’t put it down and then p**sed me off cos it’s only the first of three as you know I’m not a fan of starting a series without the end due to the amount of books I read lol However, she is releasing the next one in March phew! Suffice to say with a mafia rom there’s a dominant male, spice, push and pull, touch her and caput, a twist in the story and violence let’s not forget about that 😈
Not the typical Mafia romance, but plenty of angst, spice and plot twist to capture your attention immediately and keep it in its grasp until the end!
Amazing start for this series! Character and plot development was on point and not a lot of nonsense to confuse and muddle the story while still having enough depth and detail to really get you into it.
Beck and Mazzy were both brilliantly entertaining on their own and get them together it is off the charts fantastic! I loved them both so much!
Let’s just start with I finished this book in less than 24 hours 😂 if I didn’t have to go to bed for work, I would have finished it in one sitting. I can not express enough how amazing this read is. Mazzy and Becks’s unexpected meet not so cute sparks at the very beginning. I absolutely adored how relatable Mazzy is, and devoured how in love Beck is with Mazzy. Prepare yourself to be crying waiting for book 2! I HIGHLY recommend this book to each and every one of you!
I loved this book! It’s a mafia romance with a slow burn. I loved how our main character decided to travel with this mafia man and slowly fell for him. I loved that he found himself opening up to her and loving her. I loved how he became super protective of her and started wanting to spend more time with her rather than do jobs for his boss. I loved how he arrived just in time to save her from being killed yet again. Definitely would reread.
Wow! This book had me right from the beginning. Mazzie is just trying to do her own thing and Beck just blows up her world. I loved watching their story unfold, but HOLY! I’m on edge waiting for the next book!
This book has angst, has HOT spice and the story is mind blowing. Christina B. Rose is a one click author for me and this just reconfirmed that! Bravo!
Another amazing book by Christina. This was about Mazzy. She was living in NYC and she went to Utah for her cousins wedding. She left immediately after. She started her drive back. When she was on the road she saw an alert for a stolen vehicle. She happened to drive along and saw it. She looked at the driver as she passed and he looked at her too. She got off a few exits down the road for gas. She thought she got away from the trouble but she was wrong. He followed her and he gave a proposal she couldn’t refuse. So they started the drive back to NYC but they ran into some trouble along the way. They spent a lot of time together and they got to know each other. Beck was working for the Italian Mafia. I highly recommend this book.
Steamy, sexy, and fun!! I am shipping so hard with Beck and Mazzy! This book was light and dark all in one. The character development feels natural and slow rather than rushed and complicated. The writing is smooth and perfect. I need book 2!
This is a new to me author and OMG! This is definitely the mafia read I needed 😍 Couldn’t put this book down! I seriously love books with twists and turns and ERRRMAHGAWD moments! And Collateral Affliction did this! I was walking around reading this while, working and doing my day to day tasks, that’s how consumed I was by this book 📕 I generally lean towards reading books with lots of spice, so even though this book was about. 1.5 🌶️ spice, it didn’t matter the story was THAT GOOD This is the first book in what will be a trilogy and hawt Dayum I cannot wait for books 2 and 3! Read this! You’ll love it
What a ride - both the book itself and the actual car ride in the book! This was my first read by this author and certainly not the last.
I really enjoyed getting to know Beck and Mazzy throughout the book. The chemistry they have, the connection between them, just builds beautifully throughout. I love the banter!
I also love when an author writes characters that I just totally hate, and that happened with this one. The ability to create a character that evokes such strong emotions takes talent and skill. This author has that talent and skill.
There are lots of little twists and suspense-filled moments, which I always love so I can try to figure out who did what, with who, and why?!
Without spoiling, I really like how the author finished this chapter of the trilogy, and I can't wait for the next book.
Book Summary: When Mazzy, a tough and independent sonographer, crosses paths with Beck, a reluctant mafia enforcer fleeing a crime, her life spirals into chaos. What starts as a forced partnership soon becomes a complex connection as they navigate betrayal, hidden pasts, and forbidden love.
With danger around every corner, Mazzy and Beck must survive a world of deadly enemies and unraveling secrets while grappling with an undeniable pull toward each other. This suspenseful, slow-burn romance sets the stage for an intense story of loyalty, survival, and a love that defies all odds.
Book Review: This book offers a refreshing twist on the mafia romance genre, delivering humor, suspense, and a cast of chaotic yet memorable characters. Unlike the darker, brooding bad boys often seen in similar stories, the mafia men here lean more toward frat-boy charm—playful, manipulative, and power-driven. The Don himself comes across as a spoiled brat with authority.
Mazzy’s character stands out as a deeply compelling heroine. Her trauma-filled past, combined with her feisty, antisocial nature, creates a layered and intriguing protagonist. Her journey unfolds slowly, with each revelation adding to the tension and emotional weight of the story. Her accidental involvement in Beck’s dangerous world is as heartbreaking as it is fascinating.
The romance is a painful slow burn, filled with cat-and-mouse games that, while sometimes frustrating, feel justified in the context of their complex situations. The action-packed plot is rife with betrayal, secrets, and moments of intense connection between Mazzy and Beck. Their dynamic is a rollercoaster, and their chemistry shines despite the darker elements of the story.
Though I appreciated the suspense and emotional stakes, I found myself wishing for a bit more “spice” to balance the slow build of their romance. The cliffhanger ending leaves a lot of unanswered questions, making me eager to see where the story goes next.
Overall, this book delivers a thrilling, drama-filled ride with a unique take on love, loyalty, and survival. Fans of slow-burn romance with high stakes and strong, resilient characters will find much to enjoy in this first installment of what promises to be an epic trilogy.
Mazzy is a sonographer in New York City, 26, beautiful, feisty, and a loner. She has a trauma filled past that makes her antisocial. She has a cat as well. Her boss makes her take a two-week vacation that is long overdue. She attends her cousin’s wedding in Utah and is driving away when she notices a sign about a stolen carit is right in front of her! She just cannot resist! She passes it, staring right at the male driver.
When she pulls into a gas station, her whole life is about to go up in smoke! Beck is in the mafia. He is right under the Don, Tony, who decided to show up to take the position after his father was killed by a rival gang. Beck had temporarily been in charge prior. Most the men were loyal to Beck, though he does not want the position. Beck offers Mazzy two choices…she smartens up and takes the one for an accompanied drive.
Everything was to go off without a hitch. They would part ways soon. Only, really, once the attraction set in, they were together, and everything was blown away. Too many coincidences, her past, his past, the wedding, his job, and so much more will lead to discoveries neither knew was waiting for them. Now, betrayal, death, war, and more await them around every corner.
This is an action-packed story filled with dangerous love, alarming discoveries, hidden pasts, secret plots, murder, war, misunderstandings, unfulfilled love and answers, a ride or die relationship, and an intense deep connection between two people from rival families. As mentioned within the story, a favorite book of Romeo and Juliet…is this the same ending these two will face in the gamut of the lives they just discovered are more intertwined based on huge coincidences? The book ends with a cliffhanger! Things are just getting good, and you will definitely want to own the first book in a trilogy that promises to take you on many highs and lows of emotions. I hope the next book comes very soon.
Mazzy is a strong, beautiful, sensitive, stubborn, smart aleck, intelligent woman who will come alive through her interactions with a man who is so deadly…but she refuses to give up on him or them. Beck is one of the most dangerous men around who believed he never wanted a life or love with a woman. When Mazzy gets under his skin and into his heart, he is ready to take on the world for her…and he will have too. This is an epic love story in the making!
Beck DeLuca, caught driving away in a stolen vehicle, hundreds of miles away from home, running from the scene of a crime in he just committed, the vic just happened the be a millionaire, what he didn't know, the daughter was home, she saw him and her two perfect green eyes met as he sped off.
Beck knows that if he gets caught, he's going to be in trouble, but then again, he's always in trouble. The trouble is that she's seen his face, and he can't let her go. Beck just doesn't know what he's going to do with this gorgeous, sassy, untouchable woman.
Mazzy hasn't had the easiest life. She just wants to be left alone and live the rest of her life in peace. Mazzy didn't need some charming, manipulative, hot-as-hell bad boy stealing her car, with me still in it.
While she was trying to get away from all the trouble that they each had found themselves in, they both knew that they had each never had that much good luck, and now, they were both stuck with what they were calling their bad luck charm.
Mazzy swore that she had survived her entire life so far, the good, the bad, and the ugly, so she knew without a doubt that she would be able to survive Beck DeLuca as well.
I absolutely loved all the tropes and themes in this book. The found family touched her and die, mine, kidnapping, forced proximity (graphic violence), forbidden relationship, praise/degradation, BDSM, good girl.
Buckle up, buttercup, you're in for the ride of your life.
I went into this book with no expectations. I didn't know what to expect with this book so I had to go in with a very open mind and I am glad that I did, this wasn't what I expected with this book and I am not sorry that it's not what I thought it would be after the first few pages... it was oh so much more than that.
This was a roller-coaster of a ride, and nothing was ever what it was what it seemed. This was just so perfect.
Beck, our yummy MMC is our typical mafia alpha-hole, the ruthless enforcer. Make no apology, take what he want when he wants when he wants it.
Mazzy, our sweet and smart FMC, would rather live on the sidelines than dare to draw attention to herself. The past has seen her have the wrong attention sent her way, and she wants to leave the past right where it is in the past.
Then fate brings the two of them together. They each tell the story from the POV, and it gives us an intimate look at what's going on in their minds and in their hearts. We get to see their struggles and conflics, the good vs. the bad, right vs. the wrong, crime vs. justice, hate vs. love, all the feelings that one could feel and oh so much more.
The one thing that I really didn't like about Mazzy was that she just seemed to like complaining all the time. But, this isn't going to stop me from continuing the rest of the series.I do think there is a touch of BDSM themes in this book, and it spices things up a bit. I actually enjoyed it. It felt like it was perfect for Beck and his personality.
Collateral Affliction will hook you from start to finish, and I can't wait to get my hands on book 2. This book ends on a cliffhanger, so it makes me want book 2 that much quicker as I am aching and longing to know what happens next.
Have you ever read a book that you just cannot put down? That sucks you in from the first paragraph? Where the books world becomes your world, and when you do finally put the book down and re-enter your reality you feel discombobulated? Collateral Affliction is one of those books 🖤 and I am so here for the author! This amazing first installment of what is, thankfully, a trilogy, starts off with our MFC Mazzy driving down a highway in Utah. It isnt long before our MMC Beck comes on scene, in a stolen car. Their worlds collide, not realizing that their worlds had already collided in the past due to their families. As Beck basically adultnaps her to drive to Philly in her SUV, they begin to know one another. The lone highways and the long hours gives time do conversations that Mazzy is not at all comfortable having. With anyone. Relatable much? Mazzy is very self-conscious and socially awkward. She avoids relationships and conversations with the majority of people. Once you learn about her past you get it, but also, the avoidance of social situations is so freaking relatable for me. That is what drew me into her character so deeply. Beck is quite the opposite, he is very confident and talkative, though his talking is usually to get others to open up to him with information he needs. Beck is also pretty funny and a bit of a cinnamon roll for being second in command of the Italian Mafia in Philly. During this installment we learn a lot about both characters, their past, and how their pasts overlap. We also get to be along for the sweet and oh so spicy ride of their emotions towards one another. The spice itself is good, but the inside look into their emotions and the buildup makes the spice about 10x's hotter. This book was amazing, I happily devoured it, loving every word! It was also a really good buildup to the second book, which should be even more amazing with what was revealed and what took place in this book. I will definitely be recommending this trilogy and this author to anyone who asks!!

I definitely was able to read this in one sitting. Let me set the mood for you:
Mazzy is on her way back to New York after FINALLY taking a vacation from work to go to her cousins wedding when she noticing signs on the highway about a stolen vehicle. And what do ya know? Only one other car is on the road with her. In a snap decision she decides that she doesn't want to deal with this and passes the car when she locks eyes with a beautiful blue eyed man. And from here, our story ensues!
I feel for Mazzy and her traumatic past and life experiences. And yet I still found myself being so incredibly frustrated with her. She's been through so much as a teenager/adult, and yet was so sheltered as a child that her emotional reaction to situations was very, immature for the most part. BUT, towards the end I started to see some growth from her and potential for the next book which is really great to see! I appreciate multi layered characters even if they frustrate me from time to time. 🤣
Beck, my man's been deep in the mafia life for as long as he can remember. He's got so quite a bit of pressure and responsibility it seems. One thing is for sure though, he's got such a low key sense of humor and banter that I LOVE to see! He's really out here thinking to himself, well this random woman is headed in the same direction as me, I might as well persuade her to let me drive the rest of the way to my destination so I can ditch this car. ☠️
There's so much angst and tension in this one, and a slowwwwww burn 🔥 with a build up! I'm looking forward to where the rest of this series goes! I need book 2 right now after that cliff hanger!
❤️🔥Mafia Romance + Heart-Pounding Tension❤️🔥 What you can expect: ✨Found Family ✨Touch her and d!e ✨Mine ✨Kidnapping ✨Forced Proximity Graphic violence ✨Forbidden Relationship ✨Praise/Degradation ✨BDSM ✨Good Girl
Buckle Up, you're in for a wild ride! I wasn't sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't this -and.... i'm not upset about it! The twists and turns were superb! nothing is what it seems in this novel! Our MMC, Beck, is your typical mafia alphahole - ruthless enforcer, makes no apologies, takes what he wants, when he wants it. Our FMC - Mazzy, is a shy, smart, and would rather live on the sidelines than dare to draw attention to herself. she's had plenty of unfortunate attention in the past, and would rather leave her past right where it is - long ago and far away.
A strange series of events (one might even call it fate) brings these two together. Their POV's give the reader an intimate look of what goes on in their minds and their hearts. They both struggle with their conflictual feelings: good vs bad, right vs wrong, crime vs justice, hate vs. love... so much going on for them.
There were times i wanted to shake the FMC for her whininess, but not enough to hate her. I would say there is super light BDSM compared to other books I've read and some of the spicy scenes felt like the author just rushed right into it, but i guess it lines up with Beck's personality.
I was hooked right out the gate, while reading this book, and now I have to wait for Book 2 to come out, as this ended on a cliffhanger.
I was given a free ARC of this book, and this review is only my opinion.
Mazzy’s return home from a family wedding takes an unexpected turn when she encounters a stolen car. After noticing the driver’s face, she’s pursued by Beck, who presents her with a choice: hand over her car and face the consequences, or join him. This decision kicks off a memorable road trip filled with awkwardness, yet easy and undeniable chemistry they both struggle to embrace.
The author creates characters that feel real and full of emotion, which makes their stories believable. Mazzy and Beck have conversations filled with witty banter and humor, making the story very enjoyable. Their strong connection pulls readers into their world easily. They are two of my favorites characters I’ve ever read about.
This book delivers a 5-star experience, with a captivating storyline and a fresh twist on the mafia genre that kept me engaged from start to finish. It was unlike any other book I’ve read, to date. I loved every page and ultimately devoured it.
Though the story is left unresolved, it ends on a perfect note, setting the stage for an eagerly anticipated sequel with Beck and Mazzy. I can’t wait for more adventures with them! I just know the next book with be just as amazing.
Wow, this was an unexpected take on a mafia romance. I can't wait to see where this series goes next now!!
Ok, let me say I am a lover of mafia romances and this one took me by surprise in the best of ways. First off it starts off very differently than you would expect with Mazzy being a bit of an introvert or recluse of sorts. She is finally taking a vacation from her job to attend a family wedding but ends up seeing a car on the highway that is wanted and by chance, she even notices the driver and decides she doesn't want to deal with the police or the extra that comes with being a good Samaritan. Unfortunately, she has no idea that she is about to become involved in more than a stolen car problem now. Beck trying to charm his way into Mazzy's life finds her at a gas station and propositions her two choices let him drive her car and let her go afterward or he can cuff her in the dark lot leaving her to fend for herself. She decides to take a chance and let him have her car but with unforeseen circumstances cause catastrophic repercussions for the two of them along the way. Be ready for some twists and witty banter making this an unputdownable read.
I love that the author takes you into this crazy ride along giving you crumbs to follow that lead to even more questions as the story unfolds. It's a fun push-pull between Beck and Mazzy plus the tension between them builds like a slow fuse waiting to combust. All I can say is this one takes you on a fun journey but weaves in the emotional moments as well that give you a very unconventional love story. I absolutely can't wait for more of these characters. I highly recommend this to any reader who loves mafia romance with the dark themes, suspenseful moments, witty banter, spicy times, and twists & turns leaving you needing more.
This was my first book by the author, and I enjoyed it. This book is filled with my favorite tropes.
And okay, I'll admit that I love unhinged dark mafia men, and the way it was written, I loved it so much.
Beck and Mazzy...
I know he is a mafia man. , but oh god, how chaotic they both are. I loved their banter and the energy they radiated. I really enjoyed it.
Beck is a beautiful man, but I want to enter the book and tell him to please loosen up. He is amazing at getting on her nerves! 😂
I loved how his character is multilayered, yet delicious and not rushed. He is fun, but burdened with pressure and responsibilities.
Mazzy had her own reasons for reacting in a certain way to some situations. Her past and her life made her who she is. She isn't falling for the lies.
I love how they complement each other and how impressively the story unfolded.
Rose did an amazing job building the tension between the characters. What I enjoyed most about this book is that the banter, the sexual tension—everything—was appropriate and impressively written.
This is book one in a brand new series by Christina and I fucking loved it. It's a different take on mafia romance and different from her normal writing, but it still packed a punch. It's takes you on an exciting, emotional, crazy journey.
I sat and read this book in under 2 hours, I just couldn't put it down, page after page I just kept turning , glued to they pages. Needing to know what was going to happen next, I'm so engrossed in beck and mazzy's story, it had me on the edge of my seat and my heart racing.
It's a crazy wild rollercoaster ride that's filled with action, drama, twists and turns, surprises, secrets, suspense, banter, chaos, betrayal, death, war, spice and loads more. There budding romance is a slow burn, a game of cat and mouse. Their chemistry and attraction is there and it's explosive.
I just loved the way Christina started off this series, the storyline just flows nicely, the characters are great, even know you get annoyed at mazzy sometimes. The plot definitely fantastic.
Christina never disappoints me in anything she writes, everyone of her books I've read I've fell in love with and this book was the same. I can't wait to see what she pulls out the bag for the next book in the series. Highly recommend!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Mazzy and Beck are brought together initially for a short time. However, many events lead to them being together longer than expected and then falling in love (though they havent said that yet).
I feel like Beck, as a leader in the Mafia, could have been a little rougher around the edges, but his charming personality is captivating and passionate. I think that a person raised in the mafia life might not be as soft and compassionate as Beck is, but this is exactly what Mazzy needs. It's easy to fall in love with Beck, and he makes a great hero for this book.
Mazzy's struggles with finding who she is and who she wants to be can be felt throughout the book. I think her continuous arguing can be annoying at times as it maybe is a little too much, but I love that as the book goes on, in the end, she starts to accept who she wants to be.
This book has a lot of suspense and tension. It is not just a hero meets heroin and falls in love story. It hasn't great plot that leaves you wanting to know more.
This book does end on a cliffhanger.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves Mafia books.

"Collateral Affliction" is a wild ride from start to finish—with a few unexpected detours that make the journey more worthwhile.
The book hooks you right away with a gripping and intense setup. I was instantly captivated by the chaos, suspense, and fast-paced drama. Although the middle section slows down during Mazzy's healing, it serves a crucial purpose. The author uses that downtime to build out the characters, giving them depth and dimension that many books in the mafia romance genre tend to skip over.
What stood out most was how different this story felt compared to other mafia romances I have read. The banter is sharp and witty, the tension is palpable, and the supporting cast is strong enough to carry their own stories (which I hope we get!). The story strikes an excellent balance of action, emotion, and character development.
If you are looking for something with bite, heart, and a fresh take on mafia romance, Collateral Affliction delivers. Thank you, Christina B. Rose eARC.
I had the honour of reading this book as an arc read, and loved every second of it.
Mazzy has a difficult relationship with her family, and after attending a family wedding, leaves as soon as she can, to start the three day drive back to New York, but her life becomes a lot more complicated when she sees the face of the driver of a stolen car, and he decides to kidnap her and drive back in the direction of New York with her to stop her reporting him Beck is second in command of the Italian Mafia in Philly, and is driving back from a job when he realises that he’s been spotted by a beautiful woman, and can’t just let her go, so he forces her to travel with him, and they head off on a journey that is filled with eye opening revelations, unexpected feelings and danger
The plot twists in the book shook me, and they find out a lot more about each other and their families than they ever expected to. I can’t wait to continue this trilogy 🖤🖤🖤
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 🌶🌶🌶 Collateral Affliction by Christina B Rose
Part 1 of 3 Collateral Destruction Series. Part 2 released March 23rd Part 3 released May 25th. ARC reviews to follow!
Collateral Affliction is a dark mafia romance. This fast paced intricate story follows Beck, a longstanding mafia 2nd in charge, who coerced Mazzy into driving him back home from a job across country. Along the journey Beck and Mazzy discover about each other's dysfunctional upbringing and become closer. When Mazzy is put in danger, Beck realises his feelings for her and is started on a journey to right a long history of wrongs. This story is reminiscent of Romeo and Juliet with warring families, forbidden love, kidnapping, forced Proximity, touch her and die tropes with a morally grey MMC and an FMC who reveals a praise kink! This is a slow burner with more spice promised in book 2 and 3! I'm really looking forward to reading these!
Let me just start off by showing one of my favorite quotes from this book.
“I want to… devour you. I want to crush & snort you, shoot you into my veins.”
This is a mafia romance book that has so many turns of events. It all starts when Mazzy spots a stolen vehicle on the highway & the driver makes eye contact with her. That’s what starts the intense rollercoaster of the next couple of weeks.
A kidnapping, mob ties, family secrets… lots of family secrets, getting shot, gun fights, a whole lot of angst & enemies to lovers, plus so much more.
There’s definitely a lot that goes on, so buckle up & be ready to ride this rollercoaster.
The slow-burn of this book is exactly that. Literally SLOWWWWWW burn. But when it finally happens…it’s GOOD! I do wish there were more spice near the end, since the build up from the slow burn was so long awaited, but that’s just my opinion! The spice was there, don’t get me wrong!! I’d just love more 😏
Who doesn’t want a slightly unhinged mafia man!? I know I do. The plot was so good and very fast paced. Mazzy is just as amazing! I love a strong fmc, she’s sassy and doesn’t back down. She’s also had a really hard life.
"𝐼'𝓁𝓁 𝒶𝓁𝓌𝒶𝓎𝓈 𝓂𝒶𝓀𝑒 𝓈𝓊𝓇𝑒 𝓎𝑜𝓊'𝓇𝑒 𝑜𝓀𝒶𝓎, 𝑀𝒶𝓏𝓏𝓎."
There’s some twists I didn’t see coming, some suspense and hot spice! The banter between these two was just hilarious. I highlighted so much of this book! I need the second now!
Tropes: -found family -dual POV -praise and degradation -“good girl” -mafia romance -forced proximity -one bed -kidnapping -forbidden relationship
This was such an interesting take on a mafia story. The book starts with Mazzy spotting a stolen car driving down the road. The driver of that stolen car is none other than Beck, who is in the mafia. After she sees his face, he can’t let her go. He has to ensure she won’t turn him in, right?
I loved their banter, and this book was so funny at times. I enjoyed watching Beck slowly realize he adored Mazzy. It felt authentic and sweet. The romance develops slowly, but the tension is delicious. Most of the book was just these two riding in the car or alone, and I was still highly entertained. Rose did a fantastic job making the two characters so enjoyable.
There were so many twists and turns, some of which I did not see coming. I can’t wait to read the next one. This ended on a massive cliffhanger. I need more like yesterday.
This is available on KU. I hope you read it and enjoy it as much as I did.
Quotes: “You absolutely will not be touching me?” “No, Jesus Christ. Do I look like someone who needs to touch a woman who doesn’t want me to touch them?”
“I want to… devour you. I want to crush and snort you, shoot you into my veins. I want to smother your body into mine so you’ll always be with me. So I never have to wonder where you are. So that I always know who you’re with, what you’re doing, and when you need me.”
I love how this is another viewpoint of Christina's mafia world. There isn't really any overlap so it does feel different, but yet we get the same impact as we do with her other books. Beck and Mazzy have almost an instantaneous chemistry that they both try to deny. One in self preservation, and one in protection of the other.
Beck's wit and charm are top tier. I know that he is supposed to be good at charming the ladies, but honestly, it wouldn't take much for him to charm me either, lol. Whenever a big tough mafia guy shows sympathy or compassion, they really rope me in. However, his caring for Mazzy and understanding how to handle the situations that they are going through, and have gone through, might make him my favorite in this universe so far. I cannot wait to see what is in store for them in the rest of the series.
This is the first book in the Collateral Destruction trilogy. Christina B. Rise is not a new author to me, as I have read the Denial and Defiance duet prior to this book. I do have to say that this book is my favorite so far! Although I have not read the Devil’s Dominion series yet… Mazzy truly is a unique character. You never know how she will respond to the things that happen to her or around her. Her backstory is so unimaginable that you do not know what to make of her. Beck has me feeling so confused! One minute you're drawn in by his sexy alphahole ways and the next you want to st@b him with the nearest object at hand! But I loved every twist and turn in this story! Thank you, Christina B. Rose for a truly outstanding read! I couldn’t wait to leave work to finish reading this story! I look forward to reading the next book to see how their story continues!
