A botanical stroll through the Prado
Book published on the occasion of the itinerary A Botanical Stroll Through the Prado, held at the Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid, from 28 October 2024 to 30 March 2025.
This volume focuses on thirty botanical species represented in as many works in the Museo del Prado: outstanding paintings and sculptures from the permanent collection, such as Bosch's The Garden of Earthly Delights, Van der Weyden's The Descent from the Cross and Fra Angelico's The Annunciation. Each of the thirty plants is accompanied by a commentary by Eduardo Barba and a botanical illustration by Juan Luis Castillo, as well as a complete detailed reproduction of the work in the Museum.

Ha colaborado con instituciones como el Museo Nacional del Prado, el Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, el Museo Lázaro Galdiano o el Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao, así como para colecciones extranjeras. Ha publicado artículos de investigación en catálogos de cada una de ellas.
Además, cuenta con varios libros publicados hasta la fecha:
- El jardín del Prado. Un paseo botánico por las obras de los grandes maestros (Espasa, 2020; 10.ª edición).
- Una flor en el asfalto. La vida de las hierbas urbanas contada por ellas mismas (Tres Hermanas, 2021; 4.ª edición). Con prólogo de Gilles Clément.
- El paraíso a pinceladas. Jardines en las obras de arte (Espasa, 2023).
- Guía botánica del Museo de Huesca (Museo de Huesca, 2024)
- Un paseo botánico por el Prado (Museo del Prado, 2024)

Eduardo Barba Gómez is a landscape gardener and a botanical researcher in art history. He collaborates for Spanish institutions as the Museo del Prado, the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, the Museo Lázaro Galdiano or the Fine Arts Museum of Bilbao and other foreign collections, identifying the botany in its artworks. He published research articles in catalogues for these institutions.
His first book, El Jardin del Prado (The Garden in the Prado) reached its 10th edition. It is about the plants that grows in the artworks in the Museo del Prado.
His second book, Una Flor en el Asfalto (A Flower on the Pavement, 4th edition), talks about the urban weeds, with a preface written by Gilles Clément.
His third book is El paraíso a pinceladas. (A Paradise in Brushstrokes), about the painted gardens in artworks.
It has another titles, like a couple of botanical guides por the Museo de Huesca and another for the Museo del Prado.
