She’s running from her past. He might be the first person who doesn’t run from what she’s hiding.
Amelia Marsh lives on the road, with her van and true crime podcasts as companions—until she’s stranded outside of Smoky Heights. The charm of the small town calls to her, or maybe that’s just the thrum of electricity from the golden-haired country boy who finds her on the side of the road, Weston Grady. With a lethal grin and sharp, dark humor that rivals her own, he quickly proves there’s more to their chemistry than just a sizzling physical attraction.
The longer she stays, the more Weston crumbles her resolve to keep moving. Smoky Heights offers a fresh start she never dreamed could be possible, but letting people in has always been a one-way ticket to exile. Keeping her past buried is the only option. Amelia’s secrets aren’t just baggage, they’re a ticking clock.
As much as she wants to stay and explore the possibilities with Weston, her past is creeping up on her, threatening to expose her haunting history. With shadows like hers, can she find happiness and a new beginning in a town that harbors no secrets? For the first time ever, his heart is on the line, but their future could go up in flames.
For fans of small town romance and unforgettable heat, Strike the Match is a must-read. A heartwarming story of love, breaking free from the past, and embracing fresh starts, Strike the Match is a standalone with a happily ever after and can be read on its own, or as book two in the Smoky Heights series, following Rekindling the Flame. It is the springtime book of the series, and it has enough spice to start a food truck.
Read it for free on Kindle Unlimited or purchase on Amazon and select bookstores.

Maddie is an elder millennial who writes contemporary romance books that focus on relatable characters you’ll fall for, journeys you’ll root for and spice you’ll melt for. She’s awful at social media and talking in the third person, but she’s less slightly terrible at writing spicy romance.
When she isn’t at her keyboard from dark to dark, she’s usually blasting music that hasn’t been cool for fifteen years, or curling up with a book, her pups and the book boyfriend of the day, or her very real (and very understanding) husband of over a decade.
“For the girls with dark senses of humor. We deserve HEAs too.”
This BOOK!!!! Not only is this an arc review, it’s an alpha review too 🥹 I’m so so so incredibly proud of Maddie!!! This book has my entire heart and soul. I’ve read this book four times now and every time I do I love it more and more 🥹 I didn’t want any of the reads to end, this is 10000% an ♾️ star rating for me! This whole series means so much to me and I love these characters so very much!!! I will forever recommend this book, I’ve devoured it so many times and it’s always the best time!!!!!! I’m obsessed with every single aspect of this small town 🤭
Amelia is hands down one of my favourite characters, her dark humour has me in STITCHES! I loved her personality and her growth throughout the book. I loved learning more and more about her throughout the book, especially trying to find the hints about her mysterious past 👀 it was such an addictive storyline for sure! She’s definitely my favourite girlie because of her love for crime podcasts.. she’s my type of person. I loved seeing her relationships develop with the other characters, it made my heart melt. Amelia is such an fiercely independent character, it makes sense but I loved that about her, she stood her ground in situations - and defended people 😭😭😭 I loved everything about her, she’s such a stunning character too, I’m literally obsessed with her and she’s 10000% my woman crush everyday! Let me just say, Van Gogh will forever be my favourite 💅🏻
Weston is my obsession, my favourite, my man. I love the Grady brothers so much, I love his character as a whole, being able to understand his thoughts and feelings had me in tears if I’m honest. It was so raw and relatable and I adored that about him, seeing his character growth was everything 🥹 he truly deserves the world, I will forever fight for this man. I loved seeing his relationship with his family, watching him and Wyatt resolve their issues - and seeing Weston overcome his ‘curse’ that he believes he has. Watching him fall so deeply in love without even knowing it was so special. Seeing Weston find his feet back in his home town was beautiful, he found his home🥹 His journey to overcome his insecurities has got to be one of my favourite growth storylines!!! He is a man obsessed and that’s one of my favourite things in the entire universe. He is the perfect golden retriever hero that loves a good time iykyk I’m obsessed with him 😏
This book is so addicting, i will definitely be rereading again soon for the fifth time 🤭 the chokehold this series has one me is something else. I will never shut up about this universe, the writing is so captivating. I loved seeing old faces, and seeing how much changed and developed from book one. It really is magical, I was hooked from the very first line - I love Maddie’s introductions every time 😮💨 the banter in this book had me screaming honestly, I was giggling, kicking my feet at these two. It just felt so natural and it made my day, especially the sarcasm from a certain person 💀 And the spice… it was spicing 🤭 oh my!! I was blushing because this was some good spice!!!! 🐹🍌 By far some of my new favourite scenes were in this book, especially the revenge scene 😏 I adored the girl group in this book, it was so special to see Amelia find her people! Lexi took her in and made her feel so at home, OBSESSED! They were all so welcoming to Amelia and the girls loved Weston 🤭 I wish I could be in Smoky Heights because it’s such a dreamy place, and the people will always have your back. This book had me on the edge of my seat, the suspense throughout had me hooked, I needed to know more. And the big reveal did not disappoint oh my, what a surprise 🫣 I loved guessing what could’ve happened and once I went back and did all my rereads I could find the hints straight away 🤭 It has got to be my favourite romantic suspense book ever! I loved being back in Smoky Heights and I can’t wait to be back there soon 👀
Thank YOU so much Maddie for my arc copy, I’ve loved every second of it, and thank you for choosing me as your alpha reader 🥹 Forever honoured, this is going to be on my mind for a very long time. Being Maddie’s alpha reader has changed my life for better, I love you so much and I’m so proud of you! You’ve smashed it like I knew you would, this series is incredible!!! I love being on this journey with you 💘
What to expect - ✨ Small town romance 💐 Hidden identity ✨ Two loners finding each other 💐 Golden retriever hero ✨ Dark humored, true crime obsessed heroine 💐 Family drama ✨ A morbid past 💐 Lots of spice ✨ Found family
Small town | Golden Retriever MMC | Heroine in hiding | Found family | Spicy 🌶️
Weston & Amelia - these two were magic! Their connection from their first encounter on the side of the road was sizzling. I loved how natural they were together and their banter was perfect. It was evident that they could be themselves around each other which was special because they were afraid to show themselves to anyone else.
Weston - what a man. He had a heart of gold 💛 I admire the loyalty he had towards his brother at the beginning but it broke my heart at the same time. All he wanted was his to prove to his brother that he was worth of being seen, which he did with the help of Amelia. Amelia helped Weston see that he was worthy of the things he wanted.
Amelia - a tragic childhood turned her into a badass independent woman. Although running from her past and being on the run for 8 years - she found a way to live life. Not to the fullest but she made it work. Her dark sense of humour and quick wit was perfect. I love how protective she was of her independence and why she wanted to solve her own problems. It did break my heart when this nearly lost her the thing she needed most.
If you love banter, spice and happily ever afters, give this a read. You won’t regret it.
As a lover of Claire Kingsley and Lucy Score, Smokey Heights is exactly what I was looking for. A small country town of genuinely well-meaning (and well-doing) gossips that we get to see rebuilt is a comfort Maddie Myers provided. 🏘️
What to expect: ✨Small town 🌷 Hidden identity and past ✨ Golden retriever cowboy MMC 🌷 Dark humored, true-crime obsessed FMS ✨Family drama 🌷 Lots of spice ✨ Found fanily
***Weston, a reformed playboy who hides his pain with humor and a breathtaking smile.***
“His lips tilt up in that wholesome way of his that makes me certain he’s one of a kind. His kindness, sincerity, the way he gives himself wherever it will help out, even if that’s just a smile, he’s too good for this world. Too good for my tainted self.”
***Amelia, a mysterious, true crime-loving, fiercely independent girl on the run.***
“Hand over the razor blades, Wednesday Shortcake. Today’s not your day. Not on my watch.” “Did you call me Wednesday Shortcake?” “You’re half depressing, half irritatingly sunny. Could call you Strawberry Addams instead, I guess.”
✨When they meet in a chance encounter, an insta-lust for the books blooms. ✨
Weston matched Amelia’s morbidity with softness and southern charm, and gave her the time she needed to melt into trust (which she has done little of) piece by piece.
🤍 “What is this impulse I have to lighten her mood? Why is it any of my business if she laughs or not? Yet here I am, following her lead, this dark little angel with the morose sense of humor, determined to lighten her burden. Couldn’t tell you what hers is, but I could tell you it’s there. Undoubtedly.” 🤍
I saw a lot of myself in Amelia; her distrust of the world (and particularly of men), her need to protect herself, not need anyone, and maintain distance from strangers. Weston, like my real-life partner, manages to chip away at those walls, and it was pretty cool to watch it unfold.
P.s. The spice??? Whew!! There was some pretty creative stuff in there, and I think a lot of folks will be big fans 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
P.p.s. I loved the check-ins with Rory and Wyatt; and, I predict we might get to see Lexi finally get her HEA soon…
🫶 Thank you to the author for selecting me as an ARC reader - I had a blast jumping into the Smokey Heights universe and can’t wait to see what comes next 🫶
5/5 ⭐️ 2.5/5 🌶️ When the van’s rockin’…don’t come knockin’ 🚐
What an amazing second installment to the Smoky Heights series! I stayed up late to finish this last night and I’m so glad I did even though I am feeling it today. If you’re a millennial, you’ll probably love Madison Myers as an author. Take this book, tiny 5’ black cat FMC who is obsessed with true crime and living van life? Then the MMC is a golden retriever with a weapon of vaginal destruction in his pants. My goddddddd. Did I mention I didn’t sleep much?
I really enjoyed this, so I don’t have many gripes. There’s a mystery element to this and I do think it could have unfolded in a better way…or been laid out in a better way. That’s more what I mean. Maybe the issue is more with character development for our FMC than with the mystery, I suppose? The scene where we first meet her? Absolutely phenomenal. I can watch it in my mind. I think the way her trauma was handled and showcased was done really well too. I just think the impact at the end would have been even greater if the stakes had felt higher.
Weston our MMC is just a lovely accessory for Amelia and we love him for that. No, I’m kidding. The Grady brothers have their own stuff that they work through and good for them. Weston though. West. Yeah. I thought Wyatt was something, but…phew. I really did enjoy this. Truly phenomenal spicy scenes. It doesn’t get spicy for a while, but when it DOES?? Girl. I kept forgetting to highlight because I was just engrossed in reading.
Content & trigger warnings: air compressor play (?), cum play, murder (recounted), size kink, stalking, true crime (fictional)
I LOVED the first book in this series, and was so excited to head back to Smoky Heights. Sadly, my second trip didn’t have the same sparkle as the first time.
In this book, we meet Weston (his brother is Wyatt from book 1). He is heading back to help with getting downtown ready for their big revival. Him and Wyatt have a weird past - and he has promised to be on his best behavior while in town.
Amelia is a transient. Living in her van and moving from place to place. That is until her van breaks down in Smoky Heights. Enter our meet cute.
While Amelia & Weston’s chemistry was clearly off the charts, I felt like that was the extent of the story until the end when we finally got some answers to Amelia’s past. And while that part of the story was revealing and heartbreaking; it felt rushed through and like it wasn’t truly explored. Unlike in the 1st book where the plot took center stage with the pain and realism of long term illness, I felt that this book relied solely on spice.
I do enjoy the town and the other community characters, so I’m not writing off the entire series….but this one just fell flat for me.
🚐 Small Town 🚘 Golden Retriever MMC 🚐 FMC In Hiding 🚘 Family Drama 🚐 She's A Coder 🚘 Found Family
Y'all. Idk where to even begin. I fell so hard for these characters in this book. That wouldn't have been possible without Madison's wonderful writing. She gave these characters so much wit and made the banter on another level hilarious. I laughed and I teared up but more than anything I loved.
Amelia is a baddest woman who has been through some things. And not just your normal growing up things. She has been through some trauma that no one should ever have to go through. Being brought through that trauma she has become an amazing woman who won't take shit from anyone. She has been on the run not just from this trauma but also people. When she met Weston he was the person she never knew existed.
While Amelia has been through some much, she still struggled to trust people. And with good reason she didn't want to get attached much less tell too much because of how she was received in the past. I was cheering her on throughout this book! I loved that she was able to see what it was like to have a person she could trust and share moments with.
Weston is the handsome guy who went above and beyond for a woman he didn't know. But that didn't stop him from seeing who she was before she could truly be herself and live her truth. He knew before anyone how much she was growing to mean to him and refused to let her go without showing her.
I couldn't have laughed more with the banter between Amelia and Weston. It was some of the best banter I have seen in a book 📖 . I had so much fun reading it and seeing how much a small town like theirs could be so warm and inviting. Not to mention Westons family was so wonderful and loving but they protect their own!
I absolutely can't wait to read the next book in this series!
🔥 Let's Talk About Sex Baby 🥵: 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
Toys Are Teammates & Teachers She has a Piercing Fun In The Garage Fun On The Motorcycle He guides her hands ✋️ during play time
I received a complimentary copy via Madison Meyers. All opinions are my own, honest and voluntary.
I got this book as an ARC copy & the theme was totally up my alley! Overall I enjoyed this book however I’m going to be that person😬. The overall storyline kinda fell flat for me. It wasn’t bad perse just wasn’t as good as I was hoping. From pages 15-18 I was totally confused by how the author was calling the characters names.. maybe because I didn’t read book 1?!🤔 but I’m being introduced to 1 person by 3 names(Alexis, Lex & Lexi) all within a a paragraph. I literally had to take a moment to reread cause I felt dyslexic not understanding who was who. It took me another min to realize Aurora is actually Rory and not their infant daughter who I’m pretty sure wasn’t named?? So just a criticism of how some of the characters were introduced that I felt could’ve been cleaner. I also didn’t love how Amelia was introduced/described- tiny, small, bony- it’s like okay we get it she’s small and petite move on, then enter West the gargantuan god who dwarfs her in every way. I get that MM was trying to set the scene to describe how their physiques affect their sexual performance & also the under tone of Amelia’s trauma but just felt repetitive. Wasn’t a huge fan of West’s “southern” accent & could’ve done without so many “angels” & “darlin’s”. The spice was off the charts and if you’re someone who legit just wants steamy sex scenes this book did NOT disappoint in that department- all “12” inches”🍆. I mean Id climb that Grady tree too if given an opportunity 😂. I did feel like the chapters of the back n forth of Amelia & Wests foreplay went on a few chapters too long, I mean I was getting frustrated lol, but the build up of the “last night” was good & I appreciate the added depth of them bonding. I am glad I got the chance to read this & excited for the opportunity as an arc reader! This book isn’t something I probably would’ve picked up myself but did like it. I’d say this would be a good palette cleanser if you’re looking for an easy spicy🥵read! Rounding up to 3.5⭐️ Spice🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Madison Myers does it again! 😍 “Strike the Match” 🔥 is the perfect mix of suspense, drama, and emotion, with just the right amount of twists and turns to keep you on your toes! I absolutely adored this book, just like the first in the series, “Rekindling the Flame”. Madison does an incredible job at building tension while still adding in moments of vulnerability and connection that make the characters feel real. The characters, even the side characters, are so well-developed and dynamic, each one drawing you in and keeping you hooked!
I love Amelia Marsh! Amelia is the main character, a runaway in a sense, living in her sprinter van “Van Gogh”, (I love that she named her Van that, lol), who has her own set of fears and walls built from her past. She finds herself drawn to the handsome/funny Weston Grady, Wyatt Grady from book #1’s younger brother, in unexpected ways. Weston, on the other hand, is a character with his own struggles, but his genuine feelings for Amelia begin to break through the barriers and walls she has set up. The love story between Amelia and Weston so profound. Their relationship begins with a slow burn, starting from a place of uncertainty and tension.
As their relationship unfolds, the connection between them deepens. The chemistry between Amelia and Weston is visible, but it’s also filled with moments of vulnerability and personal growth. Amelia learns to trust and open herself up to not only others but the possibility of love, while Weston is there to support her and show her that love doesn’t have to be something to fear. The emotional depth of the characters really makes you connect with them on a personal level! I felt like I was apart of Smoky Heights, living their story right alongside them.
I HIGHLY recommend Strike the Match. 🔥 It’s a book you won’t want to put down, and the journey it takes you on will stay with you long after the final page.
Five stars all the way!
PS: I adore Lexi and so want to be apart of her and Rory’s friend group! 😍
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Wyatt captivated me with his pining and his never ending love for Rory in book 1 of the Smoky Heights series, Rekindling the Flame. But Weston, his brother, did noti disappoint. Wyatt's broodiness is in total contrast with Weston's lightness, easy and overal golden retriever attitude... with a dirty mouth on him that doesn't hurt in the least.
But Weston is a deeper character than that. He struggles with how everyone sees him. Yeah, he's an easygoing person but most people mistake this trait as him being irresponsible. His brother being the main person chastising him the most.
Enters Amelia, a quirky and feisty woman, who's been travelling on a van for the better part of a decade to escape from her past.
And what happens when the golden retriever meets the black cat? They strike the match, but the fire and struggles are difficult to keep at bay and soon things can get more complicated than they originally thought.
I hope this intrigued you, because reading Strike the Match was hilarious, darkish and hot and it's a book you definitely should read. Especially if you want to see how the characters from book 1 are doing.
I can't wait for book 3 and I have some ideas on who Lexi's beau could be...
Thank you Madison for trusting me wth your book. I received an ARC for my honest opinion
This book fell completely short compared to the first. I couldn’t connect to the characters at all. The best part was when we got snippets of the couple from the first book! I didn’t feel a connection between the two characters…they simply wanted to jump each other and then boom in love. It just really wasn’t convincing. There were too many name changes of the characters…Rory is Aurora but calling her different things within the same paragraph is kind of confusing. Don’t even get me started on how many different names her sister was called. Madison is a really good writer, her writing style is good, I loved and devoured the first book but I just could not get into this one. I struggled and really just made myself finish it…
1. I didn’t like the FMC-at all 2. There was too much spice talk without the smut 3. I expected more of West 4. Why is the title “Strike the Match?”
3.5 stars 2 chili peppers
I really, really hope the 3rd book redeems this one :/
Madison does it again!! I’m soooo in love with Smokey Heights!!
This was kinda insta love, but enjoyed how the MCs (whether by choice or sorta kinda imposed) chose to take their time to nurture the friendship first - which made the realization of their love for each other a little easier. The innuendos were off the chart, their sexy banter was epic! Can’t have the great stuff without the bad, so of course the story line includes past traumas & insecurities and how the characters dealt with them.
I’ve enjoyed reading the continued growth of the characters relationships, like Rory & Wyatt, Rory & Lexi and of course the healing of Wyatt & Weston’s.
I laughed, giggled, gasped and worked on my pelvic floor exercises!! 😝 There are 3 scenes that will make you shutter (in a good way)!!! 🫣🤤🥵 The motorcycle 🏍️ scene was definitely my favorite!! Hang on tight & enjoy the ride!!
After reading the first book in this series, I couldn’t wait for Weston to find his own love and happiness—and this book delivered! I love how the author once again normalizes the idea that we can make changes to our bodies without shame. Sometimes, self-improvement—whether for confidence or personal happiness—is completely okay, and this book embraces that beautifully. Our FMC is a fierce, independent woman who’s always been on the run, escaping both her past and her problems. Meanwhile, our MMC? Pure golden retriever energy—his kindness and protectiveness make everyone around him feel safe and at home. We love a cinnamon roll hero! 🥰 And the spice? Chef’s kiss! 🔥 The chemistry between them is not just hot but also full of confidence and freedom, making their relationship even more enjoyable to read. One of my favorite tropes—found family—shines in this book. As a romantic, I truly believe that home isn’t always about blood; it’s about the people who choose to love and stand by you. And the author captured that theme perfectly. I absolutely loved this book, and I hope you will too! Plus, getting to know Lexi better was such a treat—I’m really hoping the next book is her story!
Something about a feisty independent black cat fmc that falls for the lovable golden retriever mmc. I loved everything about this book. Amelia was so strong and always felt like she had no one in her corner. West was the perfect book boyfriend. Lovable and protective with a dirty mouth. They were opposites in the best way. They learned to be vulnerable to each other and lean on another person. Their chemistry and banter was so fun. As always, the Heights is full of awesome side characters. The charm in that town is off the charts.
Amelia has spent years running from her past, living life on the road in her van, until it breaks down in a small town. Stranded, she crosses paths with Weston, who finds her on the side of the road. Their connection is instant, their chemistry undeniable, but Amelia knows she can't stay for long. The ghosts of her past still chase her. Yet, as she spends more time with Weston and the tight knit community, leaving becomes harder than she ever imagined. Now, she must decide whether to keep running or finally face her past to build a future with Weston. If you love small town romances filled with passion, heart, and unforgettable moments, this book is a must read!

5 stars. Infinite stars
First and foremost I need to thank Maddie for this ARC opportunity!
The banter in this book is EVERYTHING! The characters in this book are EVERYTHING. This book is EVERYTHING! I am still thinking about this book, and can’t thank Madison enough for the opportunity to read this ARC!
If you didn’t know, you know now, I have been waiting for this book for AGESSS! I was very lucky to get the opportunity to ARC read the first book of this series and now got the opportunity to ARC read this one! Maddie has been such a wonderful friend and I’m so thankful for our friendship now!
I think what drew me so much to this book too was the mystery and suspense of it all. Wanting to know everything, getting little hints and clues! But gosh was the wait sooo worth it!
I really didn’t think that Madison could beat Wyatt Grady but I fear she has with Weston Grady! Like this man is a GOD to me 🐹🍌 IYKYK. I was so intrigued by him in book one, it was no surprise he would be this amazing. He is such a golden retriever, with a spicy attitude when needed. But in saying that, he has his struggles, his ways and his thoughts that bring him down, but it only takes a certain van girlie to change these. I’m obsessed with how understanding, calm, supportive, not pushing her to reveal anything she doesn’t want to and how he knows her so well he figures her feelings and stuff out before she even tells him.
I am full on so obsessed with Amelia, I love how she does van life, loves her true crime (because seriously it’s amazing) and I love her attitude towards all the negativity in her life. She has been through some stuff in her life and to come out of it like she has was such a wonderful read. She knew how to care and stick up for herself and that is such a wonderful trait for her to have, but the best part was that she was able to understand that sometimes it is ok to let others help, and that made me so emotional.
- Small Town Romance - True Crime obsession - Dark Humor - Family Drama - Found Family - golden Retriever MMC - Hidden Identity - FMC in Hiding - LOTS OF SPICE
Let’s also take a moment for the spice. THIS BOOK HIT WITH THE SPICE OH LORDDD. I now have some new favourite spicy scenes from this book. I don’t think I have even blushed so much in my life!
I just love how they both feel like they don’t belong, how they did find solitude in themselves and were happy but at the same time found it in each other and it made themselves realise they are wanted, needed and can be even more happy then they are when they are together. They were literally meant for each other and you can’t convince me otherwise.
Can we also just take a moment for the past characters, I missed them all so much! Rory, Wyatt, Lexi! I think I first knew I’d love this book as much as I did when I read the dedication, “for the girls with dark senses of humour, we deserve HEAs too” and hell yeah we do! I laughed like a lot during this book, I cried (I’m very emotional) and I smiled constantly! 1000000000% recommend this book!
Strike the Match is a small town romance that follows Amelia Marsh and Weston Grady. Weston is the charismatic adventure seeker who just wants his big brother’s approval. Amelia is on the run from her past never staying anywhere for too long. Will Weston be able to unlock Amelia’s past or will she hightail it as soon as her van is ready?
Diving back into Smoky Heights was exactly what I needed. The cozy feel of being alongside characters we already know on top of the new introductions this book has made Smoky Heights feel like home to me.
The way Madison writes this town, you can envision walking past every shop as spring is poking its head out. Her characters feel both new and exciting AND like they’re already your best friends. And have I mentioned another Grady man and his “trunk”?!
Overall, this book can be a standalone but is better read after at least Rekindling the Flame. You can also check out her Syndrome Series to get a better feel of the world Madison has created.
Thank you Madison for sending me an ARC copy of Strike the Match!
This book has my entire heart and soul. From the very first page, I was hooked. The writing is captivating, the banter had me giggling and kicking my feet, and the emotions? Oh, they had me in tears. Watching Weston’s journey—his struggles, his love, his growth—was everything. His character development stole my heart, and his love story was breathtaking. He is the perfect golden retriever hero, and I will forever fight for this man. And i am sorry but he is the best of the two brothers🤭
Amelia, on the other hand, is an absolute queen. Her dark humor had me in stitches, and her fierce independence made her one of my favorite characters ever. She’s strong, loyal, and protective, and watching her relationships unfold melted my heart. The girl group in this book? Pure perfection. Seeing Amelia find her people made the story even more special.🤍🌸
This book is addicting. The emotions, the humor, the friendships—everything about this small town and its characters feels like home. If you love deep character growth, emotional moments, and the perfect balance of spice and sarcasm, this book is for you. I can’t recommend it enough!
This was great! 4.5 stars from me. The pacing was just as perfect as in book 1, so I'm confident that's something that Myers excels at. While this one is a little bit dirtier in the bedroom, it still feels organic and realistic. The backgrounds to her characters are impeccable, and I feel like I could pinpoint their actions in scenarios with how well I feel like I know them. I love this kind of small-town romance and I can't wait to read the future Smoky Heights novels!
I’ve been sitting for half an hour trying to put into words the depth of love I have for this book, and I just know that I’m going to fail miserably to put this into writing.
Let’s start with Weston Grady. I thought, seriously thought, that Wyatt was dreamy in all his broody, masculine, grumpy loner, country boy energy, but my oh fucking my has Weston come in and scooped my heart out and ran off with it. Always perceived as a playboy, and looked down on by his brother, Wyatt, he came back to town to help out with the renovations and stumbles across someone in need of help that will change his life, and help change how everyone sees him in town. His golden retriever, do anything to bring a smile to your face, energy is everything I could wish for, yet he’s even more perfect being a tall 6ft+ tall country boy, who can make your panties melt with the word “Darlin” rolls out of his mouth, and goes *out of his way* to find all ALL the things that make you feel good and brings them to life for you.
Now, Miss Amelia Marsh. Living life, driving across the country in her revamped van named Van Gogh, and running from her past, she survives and maintains her sanity with Alani and True Crime Podcasts. Her dark, twisted sense of humor reminds me of myself, since we both use it to deal with trauma and being uncomfortable as hell. When her van breaks down in on the highway outside of a small mountain town in the Smoky’s she flags down the first vehicle she sees to possibly help her get back on the road. What she doesn’t expect is the tall, tan drink of water she gets, and the way he makes her feel a bit safer than she’s felt in so long.
This book is nothing short of perfection to me. Filled with mutual pining, so much banter I was thoroughly entertained, and quite a few highly sexy, BOB breaking scenes that will keep me company in my own head for a long time to come.
Wow this was so good! I didn’t think it could get better than Rory & Wyatt but damn west did not dissapoint and Amelia?! SMOKESHOW ✨
Amelia was one of the those characters that just feel like a breath of fresh air, that makes you happy and giggly. Her character development alone throughout the book was amazing to see. & her SENSE OF HUMOR😍
I loved learning more & more about her story throughout the book and getting to see her open up to west . Running from her past and just trying to make it day to day, but she grew so much and I loved seeing it. She just needed someone to slow her down & that’s exactly what west did 🥹
She was on the run for so long, that she never stopped— until her van breaks down & boy was that the best thing that could’ve happened to her, truly 😭
“You ever get tired of running. Amelia, smoky heights is here. I’m here.”
Weston was the playboy and that’s shown chapter one — he never felt like he was worthy of love and looked up to his brother Wyatt and wished he could have a life like him .
Amelia and Weston are only down with one night stands — until one night isn’t enough for either of them.
“Tell me what you want.” “All of you.”
The found family in this book was just like book one in the series- chefs kiss & getting to see a side of Lexie in this book that we didn’t get before I absolutely loved & I know her book is next IT HAS TO BE 🗣️🗣️🗣️
Amelia and West both have filthy ass mouths so you can imagine how much fun the spicy scenes are. Perfection 10/10. THE GARAGE SCENE?? THE CHAINS?? Will live rent free in my head for the rest of my life.
Madison Myers did it again! This is book 2 in the Smoky Heights series; it could be read as a stand-alone, but some of the family drama will make more sense if you've read Rekindling the Flame first. And let me tell you, if you loved grumpy Wyatt...his sunshiney brother Weston is just as loveable 😉
This was SUCH a fun read! It's been a while since I've been able to fly through a book, but I did with this one! Cute characters, adorable small-town vibes, great chemistry (🌶), family dynamics, heartwarming friendships....this book has everything I love in a rom-com.
I'm obsessed with the FMC, Amelia Marsh. She's quirky, hilarious, dark humored, and a little spitfire. A little bit sunshine, a little bit gray cloud. A girl after my own heart. She's on the run from her past, and breaks down in the cutest little mountain town with serious Starshollow vibes.
Weston Grady is back in his hometown after getting roped into some local work, and trying to keep his disapproving big brother off his back by promising not to break any hearts while he's there. A charming smile here, a well-timed joke there, keep his hands to himself, and everything will be fine, right? Until a little dark angel visiting town begins to test his resolve...but he can totally be a southern gentleman. He's just helping a lady out.
Okay, WOW. I am honored to be able to have read Strike The Match as an ARC reader, so firstly a big thank you to Madison for allowing me a sneak peek! Now, onto the book itself. I've never highlighted quotes and moments so much in any book so far. The banter is perfect, the story flow is incredible, and the twists and emotions are *chef's kiss*. The callbacks to Rekindling the Flame were very well done and definitely made the whole book feel connected. That being said, Madison did a great job creating Weston and Amelia's story to be completely their own. Some darker subject matter, but in a way that didn't change the overall feeling of the story. You get to learn and grow in real time with these characters and the set up for the next story in Smoky Heights got me so excited. There was only one thing I had a small issue with (and it had zero impact on how much I enjoyed the book) *****SMALL SPOILER***** was the pregnancy reveal at the end for one of our characters. That's such a personal preference thing, though, and definitely didn't impact my love for the story overall. This is my favorite book I've read so far this year. I can't wait to be back in the Heights for the next installment. 🥰🥰🥰

I was so happy to be back in Smokey Heights. I didn't think I could love another Grady man like I did Wyatt but Madison proved me wrong with Weston. THAT. MAN. Not only is he a thoughtful golden retriever but he can GET. IT. (if you know what I mean!!) And that garage scene...where do I sign up?!
Amelia is passing through Smoky Heights when her van breaks down on the side of the road and just happens to be so lucky to come across Weston. And the gentleman that he is can't leave her on the side of the road. She ends up staying in town while her van is being fixed and the sparks are flying between her and Weston but they agree to wait until her last night in town before they take things further. BUT that doesn't stop them from building a friendship and ultimately trusting one another with their struggles.
So what happens when Amelia is tired of running and ready to lay down some roots?? Will her past catch up to her? Will Weston be okay with her past identity? Has Weston finally found someone he can settle down with?
Weston and Wyatt's relationship has always been on the fence since their parent's divorce but it's a beautiful thing to watch these brothers grow and mend their relationship during this book.
I could not love this book more. I could not love Weston and Amelia more. These two just kept me smiling and made my heart so happy!
Amelia is running from her past. She breaks down on the side of the road in Smoky Heights and meets Weston Grady. His dark humor seems to rival her own and soon she’s wondering if it’s possible to stay in this charming small town with Weston.
Weston has this sweet golden retriever energy that you can’t help but love. Sure, he doesn’t always get it right but he is unfailingly loyal to those he cares about. Amelia enters his small town and completely changes everything for him. She’s the person he’s been searching for but never believed she existed.
I loved how she encouraged him to deal with some familial issues he’s had for many years. His relationship with his brother Wyatt (even if it was rocky at times) was one of my favorite things about this book. I loved Weston’s reaction to Amelia’s secrets and how he stood by her with no question. I truly loved everything about this book and I CANNOT wait for the next one!
So grateful I got this ARC & got to dive back into Smoky Heights & these amazing characters, Madison writes such relatable, funny & loveable people that you can’t help but love💗
Amelia is my kind of gal, dark humour, optimistic pessimist, fiery, a pocket rocket & I loved seeing her personality blossom throughout the book!! The nuggets of her mysterious past added such an interesting layer to the story!! It was so fun reading about her life in the van, it’s made me wanted a home on wheels even moreee!!
Weston my golden retriever green eyed man, I loved seeing his happiness grow & grow the longer he was in Smoky Heights & finally releasing no you’re not broken you were just waiting till you met your perfect person🥹
The spice was 🤭🙂↔️ I was blushingggg, the Grady brothers have a way with words & car equipment🫠 I’m so invested in this world and these characters & I can’t wait for book 3!! Thank you Madison!!💗
Strike the Match is out April 1st & is available to buy & on KU!! I’d highly recommend!!🫶🏼
I’m so glad that I was able to be an ARC reader for this book. This is spoiler free because there’s just so much I love about this book I need more people to hear about it and read. I demolished this book in one day.
I am in LOVE with the feisty FMC Amelia. She is a great embodiment of true millennial culture: strong, take no nonsense woman who is a true crime junky that has a questionable past but who also feels deep even if she doesn’t admit it. She is witty (Van Gogh might just be my favorite nickname for a car Ive ever heard), yet guarded in a way you know there’s a reason but you don’t exactly know until later in the story. Then there’s true golden retriever energy MMC, Weston, who as much as he tries to deny it he really does want to help out in his hometown. This story seemingly picks back up in the wonderful small town of Smoky Heights and I’m obsessed with how it flows from the previous story into this one.
Weston really does want to impress his older brother and show he has self control but he can’t help himself when he meets Amelia. The combination of dark humor and fun energy really makes for fantastic banter and real good steamy moments. We can all hope for a relationship with this equal give and take someday.
Thank you so much to the author for the chance to be part of her ARC team - it’s a privilege and responsibility I don’t take lightly!
Full disclosure - I did not read the first book in this series due to time constraints, so I don’t have that background. In any event, I don’t think I am the right reader for this book. As much as I love small-town romance with some spice, it turned out that this was too spice-forward for me in terms of the proportion of the book it took up. Around the midway point I was looking for some of the plot that we only got at the very end.
The MMC Weston had his charms, but his frequent use of “darlin’” didn’t strike a chord with me personally. That being said, the physical description of him and his mannerisms reminded me of Sawyer from Lost - if that type of book boyfriend sounds appealing and you’re looking for lots of spice in a small town setting, this would be a good one to pick up!
Having read Rekindling the Flame (book 1 of this series), I immediately couldn’t wait for the 2nd book to be here and knew that it would not disappoint. And well….it didn’t! Amelia is literally every extremely independent woman who struggles with letting people help even in dire situations. Granted, Amelia has her reasons and while they are valid, she does have to eventually let some walls down and ask for help. Enter Weston, who is literally my perfect dream of a man, hot, rugged and a true golden retriever who behind closed doors fulfills A LOT of fantasies 🥵🥵 But even the golden retriever hunk of a man has his own problems he’s got to work through that Amelia seemingly helps with whether he’s realized it or not. The banter alone in this book between these two sells the story but the emotions and the way they fall in love is pretty amazing.
