About the When not plotting murders, L.J. enjoys standup comedy, cycling, and zip-lining. Like her Agent Dallas character, she’s an adrenaline junkie. And like her Extractor character, she once rescued her grandchildren from a dangerous cult.
I write the bestselling Detective Jackson mystery/thriller series—a four-time Readers Favorite award winner—as well as the Agent Dallas series, the Extractor thrillers, and provocative standalone thrillers. My 30 novels have been highly praised and have sold more than a million copies.
I reside in Eugene, Oregon where my many of my novels are set, and I'm also an award-winning journalist who earned the Grand Neal. When not plotting murders, I enjoy standup comedy, cycling, social networking, and attending mystery conferences. I've also been known to jump out of airplanes.
This story kept me reading, it was intriguing. Although you knew the identity of the bomber from very early on, other crimes were being committed & those were not so cut & dry. Some parts of the story were a little uncomfortable to read, as the subject matter is quite dark & worrying on a few levels, especially as a mother & grandmother.
Jackson was very likeable in my opinion. The author made him a relatable, & at times vulnerable, male main character, which is refreshing. I felt that Jackson & his team worked well together. I like that the author gave us enough details about the investigating officers to form an opinion on them, but did not drown us with unnecessary details about them, as they are not the main focus of the story, the victims are.
I found myself getting very frustrated with some of the side characters, but that was the author's intention. However, I do feel that the author managed to cover some quite sensitive subjects in a respectful & non-judgmental way; religion, teenage sex & politics are all quite touchy subjects to cover, but feel that they were treated with dignity & very little biased, although I do get a feeling that the author may have experienced a quite religious upbringing, purely based on how that aspect of the story was covered.
I was a little disappointed with the ending, I sincerely hope that there is a follow-up or part two, as it just ended ... Will I read another book by this author? Possibly not, as although the story was good, it felt to me like they just got fed up of writing & ended the story abruptly. There were crimes, there was retribution & there were consequences, but ultimately I was left with a few questions.
I gave this 4 out of 5 stars because the story was good, the characters were well written, but the ending just dropped off a cliff, & that's why it only gets a 4.
A teenage girl goes to Planned Parenthood for genital herpes. Next day she is found dead in a dumpster. Detective Jackson is determined to find who would do this to a young teenage girl. It becomes evident that she has had sex. Detective Jackson is looking to her friends to find out who she had sex with. Her friends don't know but they are afraid that will come out that their Teen Talk sessions was not Bible study. Meanwhile someone is out for Kera who works for Planned Parenthood and treated Jessie the dead teenage girl who was murdered. Kera has come away from couple of bombings but her killer is determined to get abortion whore. Good read. Detective Jackson cares .
One of the disadvantages of buying books on Kindle is that the descriptions are often brief. I also don't like to read reviews because they often spoil the story. This book involves child abuse and I really don't like to read about that horrible subject. So, what I will say, is that the characters were good and I would be tempted to read more stories, in the series, but I'll check the description more carefully next time.
This story has a lot of lessons to learn about teenagers dealing with abusive parents and sex. It showed that at times adults can’t be trusted and at times and circumstances the teenagers can’t either. This author was able to make me feel emotions for several of the characters.
Are the little girls--probably pre-teen--involved in activities. Multiple cases ov genital warts cause suspicion. Kera has checked several and guesses that they are from the middle school revealing secrets no one wants to know
