Billionaire Situation #4

The Bodyguard Situation

Rate this book
Being a bodyguard for my billionaire cousins comes with many perks. One of my favorites is rescuing gorgeous, sassy-mouthed damsels in distress...

There are a few problems with that: Harper Alexander isn't a damsel or distressed. Oh, and I can't forget to mention that she doesn't want to be rescued.

Too bad she doesn't have a choice.

Right now, I don't give a flying you-know-what that she escaped the city with her brand-new fiancé and plans to marry him next week...I will find her. I may have to throw her over my shoulder, kicking and screaming, but she's coming with me. She has no idea how much danger she's in.

Unfortunately for her, I'm the only one who can save her. But I have a feeling, she might be the one who saves me.

The Bodyguard Situation is an action-packed, grumpy/sunshine, forced-proximity, bodyguard rom-com with suspense elements. It includes tons of witty banter, touch her and eek vibes, with lots o' spicy tension. It can be read as a stand-alone, but for the complete Billionaire Situation Series experience, please start with The Wife Situation. Happily Ever After is always included! Please read the content warning.

self note:

〰️ dead lover

"He plants a comforting kiss in her hair. I feel a pang in my chest at the raw, pure connection between them. It stirs memories of Eden Banks—the woman I loved and lost—memories I’ve kept buried beneath layers of grief and guilt."

"He’s a Calloway. They don’t do anything halfway."

I've been waiting for this story. I have always loved Brody, so I knew it was going to be good! Especially when I found out the Smoky Mountains and The Golden Girls would be included, because yes please! (My favorite.)

Harper is in trouble, and Brody will stop at nothing to save her! He's everyone's favorite protector, and he protects Harper fiercely. Not only does he treat her with respect, but also with kindness and patience. Brody is a permanent rock, never breaking his promise.

I loved watching Harper and Brody heal each other. There were so many times I just wanted to hug Harper because of everything she had to go through. I appreciated that Brody was always willing to be blunt and brutally honest. He's never afraid to give a reality check, which we all need sometimes.

There was so much love, compassion, and growth throughout The Bodyguard Situation. I love seeing the interconnected characters and the love they all have for each other! If you're looking for all the feels and swoon-worthy men, then I highly recommend picking this up.

Brody & Harper. I have mixed feelings about this book.

Things I liked:
- There was action and some suspense
- The spicy scenes were limited
- The interactions Brody had with the other guys, some were very funny
- Feel-good vibes, lots of love in the air
- Brody: sweet, protective, honest, decisive, caring, respectful. Not as broody or grumpy as I was expecting based on the previous books

Things that didn’t excite me:
- The tension that was all over the place in the beginning, faded quickly. It should have lasted longer imo.
- Some parts were repetitive and the pace felt dragging from time to time
- Harper’s attitude after Brody found her. She seemed to have forgotten reeeeally fast about what she went through and her serious relationship up until 2 days ago. And just had fun like nothing had happened and enjoyed being secluded in nature with Brody. Like there was zero “grieving” period for what happened to her and the man she had decided to marry.

It’s definitely well-written and I enjoyed reading it, it’s just not my favourite so far. But there’s no doubt I’ll be reading the next one.

-Dual 1st person POV
-Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5

Overall: 3.5/5 ⭐️

A big thanks to Lyra Parish for providing an arc of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

So boring!
The first 3 chapters were good, suspenseful, but as soon as they were at his hideaway it was full on snoozeville.
Not to mention, she 360’s her feelings from one guy to the other in a snap.

This is book 4 in a 7 book series. I have previously loved the earlier books, but I hated this book largely in part because I couldn’t stand the FMC.

The FMC has “pick me” vibes. She is constantly referred to as Little Miss Disaster, and if I never hear that phrase again it’ll be too soon. She is repeatedly infantilized throughout this book. Direct quote from FMC “Don’t tell anyone, but I’m really just a kid with adult money.” 🙄🙄🙄

She is referred to as “a strong woman” yet every character in the book coddles her, makes excuses for her poor decision making skills, and basically kept her wrapped in bubble wrap instead of having her confront the reality of her decisions. Instead of actually trying to heal or take down her abusive ex she’s too busy trying to get MMC to f*ck her. It works though bc she is busy playing house with MMC when another woman (Mia) who is mistaken for FMC is kidnapped and the two of them need to stop f*cking long enough to fix the situation.

Previous book set it up where Eden (deceased character) and MMC were a thing before she died. She left a letter in which she tells MMC’s cousin they are “falling for each other” but in MMC’s POV in this book we are told they were “just a fling” what was the point of Eden saying they were falling for each other then? The book is advertised as a healing journey for the MMC, yet he maybe says two sentences to FMC about his past with Eden.

Throughout the book we hear how traumatized FMC is from her time with her ex Micah. She had maybe one stressful day with him in the time they were together and we have to hear about it over and over. It’s not to say that she wouldn’t have been hurt/traumatized by him had MMC not rescued her when he did, but I would argue that Mia experienced way more trauma than FMC ever did. There is an entire chapter where FMC kept internally comparing Micah to MMC while waiting for pregnancy test results. This didn’t need to be an entire chapter, and this seemed blown out of proportion (I’m not defending Micah, he’s a POS), but she was having an anxiety attack remembering how impatient he was (tapping his foot on the ground) and grabbing the test while abruptly leaving the bathroom. That’s it! That’s what she was having an anxiety attack over.

FMC and MMC spend 60% of this book in a cabin and I was getting cabin fever waiting for them to go back to the city.

Another dumb quote by the FMC “To be loved and understood is officially my kink” -That’s not a kink it’s a bare minimum 🙄

Plot is summed up and we are subjected to 100 extra pages of them f*cking. The only good part of these extra 100 pages was that we got to see Lexi and Easton’s triplets be born and Carlee and Weston finally told everyone she’s pregnant. The book literally could’ve ended there, but nope it continued to drag on and I sighed in disappointment at every chapter that wasn’t the epilogue. The bonus that you get when you sign up for the newsletter is irrelevant. It’s just them f*cking and we already have an additional 100 pages of this in the book.

To sum it up, these characters lacked any real depth or growth, the plot was more interesting than whatever was happening at the cabin for 60% of the book, and it should’ve ended when the triplets were born.

This was a really close 4 🌟 for me but it didn’t quit get there for me.

Let me start with what I liked - we get a lot of detail, the book is long, almost too long, we’re not cut short on the story, Brody and Harper are a good match, love Brody for Harper and Harper for Brody - there was drama, plot twists, and no 3rd act breakup - although this is a standalone, I think you have to read book 3 to actually get the beginning of this one. This is a fun series and I have enjoyed every book so far!

NOW VENT SESSION FOR THOSE THAT READ THIS ALREADY (SPOILERS)

Eden Banks was brought up way to F’n much- like Brody, come on!!! I get you loved her and she’s great, but she knew you loved Harper then, soooooo what’s the problem!!! The amount of times his thoughts went towards Eden….it just didn’t add up.

Brody, if you’ve loved Harper forever and she’s now 32 not 18…..again, what’s the problem??? Him not thinking he was good enough for her was annoying.

Harper - I get her ability to move on from psycho killer Micah to Brody quickly being that she always had a thing for him but the way the story played out was odd.

I wish we got more of the “discovery” built in with their hide away, damn near 50% of the book was in the cabin and weeks were going by…just hiding out and a lot of internal thoughts but what about her job? And what about updates on Micah then.

The interconnection between their day-to-day life, the digging into Micah and his bullshit and hiding out in the cabin could have been integrated better - it almost felt like the story was a little choppy. We had a lot going on, but it was parallel, and there was a lot of pages in between those updates…..

Then the last hundred pages almost felt like a bonus as we got updates on the rest of the characters that we’ve met this far, I appreciate that, but I think I was tired at that point and just ready to move on

I do love the series

I think Nick and Mia will be interesting

That’s the end of my rant 😉

Harper takıntılı birine bulaşmıştır. Ailenin güvenlik biriminden sorumlusu Brody olaya el atar.

Sonraki kitap Nick Colloway'in. Merakta bıraktı. Bakalım.

I straight up devoured this book! I LOVED Harper and Brody together. From their banter to their chemistry to their vulnerable moments together, I could not get enough of them!

Brody is brooding, protective and loves the Golden Girls - he’s basically the perfect #bookboyfriend He was also holding in some trauma from his past. Underneath that tough exterior is a total cinnamon roll for her. He was sweet and caring and teaches her (well ok tries his best) to cook…plus he’s great with weapons, is very handy with an axe and is always down for a little revenge - Swoon!!

Harper is witty and sarcastic and my heart broke for her. She didn’t want to be rescued…but even the baddest bitch sometimes needs some help. She was in a really tough spot and Brody really gave her the security and space to heal. She’s strong and also wasn’t afraid to after what she wanted.

I also really loved the friendships and family and found family throughout this series. I can’t recommend it enough!!!

Lyra Parish does it again? How does she make all her books so good?? I’m genuinely curious.

Micah is the WORST!

Brody talks..? More than just a head nod? Say what!?

Harper, sweet Harper.

With that being said, the first half of the book felt like a bit of a slow burn. But not in a bad way. I like that we got more of a glimpse into who Brody and Harper are.

Brody to the rescue! Because who wouldn’t want a tall, muscular, tattooed, rich hero to save them? Let me whisk you away to my secluded cabin surrounded by beauty and nature while I cook homemade meals for you and promise with all my heart to protect you. Yes, please!

I was terrified Micah was going to find Brody and Harper the whole time they were at the cabin. I was on the edge of my seat every time they left the cabin to explore the outdoors or drove into town to stock up on groceries.

But I absolutely loved their time in the cabin. It was all so simple and sweet.

And then from pages 317-335, my heart was RACING. The suspense was real!

I just cannot say enough good things about this book. I enjoyed every page. Thank you, Lyra Parish.

Now, who do we think Nick’s secret lady is?? August 7, please hurry!

I really wish I could rate this book even this series higher than 5 stars!

I am so glad we finally get Brody’s book. I’ve been patiently waiting for the bodyguard romance situation and I was not disappointed. Everything about Brody screams Green flag but looks like a Red flag.

When Harper gets into some trouble he knows he needs to swoop into help rescue her. The only question is will she coming willingly or will he have to throw her over his shoulder?

Harper is caught up in what she thinks love is. That is until her fiancé shows his true colors. Will her stubbornness and determination to be loved win her over or will common sense finally ring true in her head when she sees Brody come to her aid.?

💛Tropes:
Body guard romance
He falls first
One bed
Grumpy/sunshine
Best friends cousin
Always been her

Thank you again for this amazing ARC

At the outset, Brody is determined to rescue Harper, who’s run off with her current boyfriend, who happens to be a truly bad person. Things aren’t entirely as they seem, however that won’t stop Brody from sweeping in like a hero and whisking Harper away for her own good. Of course the pair are perfect for each other, it’s just not a direct path to their HEA.

This is book 4 in Lyra Parish’s billionaire boyfriend series, and this will definitely please fans of the other books. Maybe it’s just me but this could’ve been edited down by about 50-75 pages, so it’s not a perfect five imho; however, I applaud the lack of a third act breakup.

I was furnished an advance reader copy from the author, and I’m sharing my honest review.

The Bodyguard Situation is a romantic suspense with rom-com vibes in the Billionaire Situation series. It's packed full of action, has a broody grumpy MMC, a Sassy Sunshine FMC, forced proximity, witty banter, a slow burn with spicy tension, suspenseful elements with a HEA. This can be read as a stand alone but IMO these books are better read in order. The Smokey Mountains in TN and The Golden Girls sitcom was a bonus for me.

TW: stalking, unwanted touching (briefly on page), mentions of the death of a parent (discussed, not shown), grief and healing after loss of a partner (discussed, not shown), mentally abusive partner, detailed sex scenes, violence, use of weapons (guns/knives), alcohol use, drugging, kidnapping, and Rated R language.

I would sincerely like to Thank Lyra Parish for my ARC and in return I voluntarily promised an honest review.

Harper Alexander is part owner in Bellamore and has recently gotten engaged and turned her back on her best friend, Billie Calloway. This isn't her usual behavior but it's apparent she needs to be rescued and when you call in the best you receive Bodyguard, Brody Calloway.

Brody Calloway is a Marine veteran turned Bodyguard working for his cousins. He's known Harper is whole life and he's not giving her a choice on being rescued. Brody is about to come in hot, get the girl and get revenge and justice all in record time.

Harper needs saving, Brody is the man for the job, but when they go into hiding, feelings and secrets are exposed and she's not the only one who needs saving. They just may be each others destiny...

“I didn’t think forever was something I’d ever get,” he says, eyes locked with mine. “Not with my past. Not with the way I’d lived. I thought I’d always be the guy who showed up when things fell apart, never the one who got to build something of his own.” Tears rise fast and hot behind my eyes, but I don’t blink them away. “But then you came crashing into my life with your fire and your stubbornness and your impossible strength. And suddenly, I didn’t want to be the man who only protected people; I wanted to be the man who deserved you. The one who got to love you out loud with his full chest, without apology, exactly as you are.”

What a beautiful love story, Harper reminded me of a Phoenix, she is so strong and she deserves a whole world of happiness after all she went through, happiness that only Brody can bring to her life.

I was devastated with Brody’s pain and grief for Eden, Harper came to his life in the perfect moment, they are definitely the definition of soulmates.

My heart is absolutely full, seeing Easton and Lexie become parents, that moment in the hospital room with all of them holding the babies, it was absolutely magical.

Thank you Lyra for another incredible and wonderful love story, I can’t thank you enough for your books!!

Brody Calloway is the bodyguard for his cousins but when one of them, Billie, asks him to protect her friend & business partner, Harper Alexander from someone that’s tied to them both, he might be in for more than he bargained for. Alex definitely can take care of herself and doesn’t want any help but she might not have a choice. She is in a situation she might not want to admit is true but slowly is opening her eyes to the truth & definitely needing that help. This picks up right after the friendship situation story so it helps to read that first to get the full picture but it is not necessary. Can Brody save his “little miss disaster” Harper before it’s too late? This is a protection romance with action, tender moments and two people that always were perfect for each other. We get to see all the previous characters and a sneak peek at who stars in the next book. Told in first person and dual POV.

ARC here.
Lyra did it again! Her writing style makes me fly through these books and completely forget about all of my responsibilities and sleep…
Who’s ready for boom 4 and Broody Brody! Lyra states it perfectly in the book….
“Brody’s the hurricane that doesn’t announce its landfall.”

This entire book was a hurricane that didn’t announce, and I know, I’m a born and raised Floridian.

Brody came in ready to conquer the world and with Lyra’s first person dual POV writing style - you get to know both characters so well that you feel like you know them. Watching (I guess reading) about Brody and Harper has been like watching my two friends figure it all out.

This entire universe makes me feel like I’m a part of the elite Calloway family and I can’t wait to keep reading.

ARC Review- The Bodyguard Situation
By Lyra Parish
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶🌶1/2

I had such a great time reading this book! From the very first chapter, the story kicks off with high stakes. Harper is in serious danger. Insert Brody the badass tattooed bodyguard and ultimate protector. The tension between Harper and Brody is palpable, especially because they have history and some deeply buried unspoken feelings. This isn't necessarily a slow burn, but it feels like it.
Harper and Brody have great authentic chemistry. I appreciated that both characters treat one another with so much care and patience. Harper gives Brody the time and space he needs, and Brody repects and cherishes Harper and is able to anticipate her needs. Their emotional connection felt authentic and made the romantic payoff that much more satisfying.
I LOVED the Golden Girls references! The fact that it is Brody's comfort show made me love him that much more.
There is a great mix of suspense, flirty banter, heartfelt moments, and just the right amount of spice.
If you are in the mood for a romance that has:
-A touch of suspense
- Years of pining
Touch her, and you're ☠️ vibes
- Sweet nicknames
-Humor
- Emotional depth and healing
- Swoon worthy HEA
This is definitely worth the read!

Brody, Brody, Brody. I had a feeling the last book was setting us up for your story, but I did not expect it to unfold the way it did (no spoilers, I promise!). The pairing totally caught me off guard — in the best way. What really got me was how this relationship pushed Brody to grow in ways I didn’t see coming. His tough, guarded exterior mixed with that soft, teddy bear heart? Loved it.

The way Lyra handled Brody’s trauma and healing felt so real and respectful. It’s clear that his past shaped him, but it doesn’t define him — and his partner really sees that.

I seriously hope Lyra isn’t done with them yet. I’d love more from Brody’s world!

This may be my new favorite by Lyra Parish. I love her writing don’t get me wrong, but give me some edge of your seat, suspense and I’m done for!! I eat this kind of suspense up!!

We get our start, and little suspense to hook us, like what’s going on here?? And then we get all the fun, swooning romance and then BAM!! You can’t put it down because so much is happening so fast!!! Like a whirlwind in all the best ways!!

Our setting is one of my favorites- middle of nowhere, cabin in the woods. (Forced proximity) Other tropes include- grumpy/sunshine, friends to lovers, bodyguard, banter and protective MMC.

“Brody is thunder and lightning, and after the rainstorm, he brings flowers and rainbows.”

I absolutely loved Brody and Harper's story. This series just keeps getting better!! It was a continuation of Asher and Billie's story and I was dying to read it. Thankfully, Lyra didn't make us wait long. I enjoyed their time in the Smokey Mountains and how they grew together. Everything about this book was so well written and I devoured it. Their banter and friendship was great. Thank you Lyra for the opportunity to read this ARC. Can't wait for Nick's story.

ARC REVIEW.. I enjoyed the witt like I do with rest of the series. I love the intertwining of the families and how everyone connects between the books. It was entertaining for sure. I enjoyed their history and the feels of their pasts. I do wish there was a little more meat..I feel like this series could be a four star it just needs a little…more. The spice is good. The story lines between them is engaging. Just missing a little more depth I think or scenery/world?

This book felt different than the first few books in the series. The writing was more flowery and there were limited side characters and settings. Another big difference was this book was soo much heavier and more emotional. It definitely wasn’t a bad thing, just made this book stand out from her others.

ARC Review:

I’m so happy to finally have Brody’s book! I loved the mysteriousness of him in all of the others. He was so great to Harper and really everyone he loved.

The suspense was suspense-ing!! Micah was the worst, obviously! I loved their time getting to know each other on a deeper level at the cabin once Harper escaped.

Loved Brody so much. Loved Harper even though she got herself into a little trouble.

I’m excited for the next book after the hints in this book and Fall I Want!

This was my first ARC read and I paused my current book so that I could devour this before its release date! I’ve been waiting for Brody’s book since The Wife Situation and Lyra did not disappoint. Brody is broody, grumpy, protective, but a softy at heart. Harper is strong-willed, smart, and an amazing friend. They are the perfect pair! There was one part of the book midway through that I felt was redundant, but other than that, it was another amazing book from LP! ❤️
