Easily my favourite book in this series. I don't know what it is about idiots in love but I enjoyed reading this so much! I legit smiled from start to finish and I think Finn and Leo are the sweetest couple in this whole series.
It was really easy for me to empathise with Leo and his social anxiety because he's exactly like me. I always got awful test results if I had to give a presentation, and it's like millions of ants are marching over me if I have to speak in front of more than a couple of people. That made it really easy for Leo to be relatable to me and I loved how he was taking small steps to improve his confidence.
Finn was so oblivious but I adored his character. He was like a golden retriever and just such a nice character. I'm so happy these two were paired together. I also loved how there was no pressure for either of them to define themselves with a label.
I'm looking forward to the final book in the series but it'll have to be amazing to beat this one!

So cute! Finn and Leo were just so adorable, they were just the sweetest together. This book was a lot of fun to read, I loved getting to see Leo coming out of his shell. These two just might be my favorite couple of the series.

"I heard, or felt, his breath hitch. “A-are you sniffing me?” His voice had a bit of a crack to it. “Sorry. Your shampoo? Whatever it is. It smells nice.” He let out a shaky laugh, releasing me, and I might have been imagining it, but the atmosphere in the room had changed, grown heavier in a way I couldn’t even begin to describe."
I have enjoyed all the books so far in Becca Steele's LSU series and Dared is another cute, easy read. Although this trope is not my favourite (friends to lovers, we didn't see it coming), I love the way Becca weaves together the story within the LSU universe and it was fun, as always, to meet the next pair (Leo and Finn) properly.

Characters: Leo and Finn
The way I related to Leo…this was everything I was hoping for and more. I cannot even express how much I love this entire series.
I fell in love with Leo in Ignited. The shy dancer that JJ sort of took under his wing. I'm so glad he got his own book. I sympathized with his character so much. I know exactly what it's like to have crippling social anxiety and the way just thinking about having to do something you don't want to do can lead to a panic attack. I went through similar things in school when I would get tongue tied, stutter, or shut down entirely in front of people. I still have similar issues today. Going to a crowded bar and then being confronted...yeah, nope. I would have broken down and ran home to cry and panic in the privacy of my own home. Leo has a passion for gaming, it helps him find his confidence and feel like he has control. I loved that. There is also some demi rep with his character. I really enjoyed the progression of his character going from never really finding anyone attractive to more once his friendship with Finn is completely solidified.
Finn was extremely sweet and supportive. He's a bit of a golden retriever, friendly and outgoing with plenty of confidence. Once him and Leo become friends, he becomes fiercely protective and loyal. I loved how their friendship went from them playing online to being there for each other to cuddle buddies and nearly joined at the hip.
The moments of them cuddling were so sweet I couldn't help but smile at them. And the way Finn was Leo's support and safe space while his confidence grew was beautiful.
It's low angst, mostly feel good, a bit steamy, swoony, and relatable. I think that's why I love this series so much. All of the books are on the lower end of angst, but they still include elements of drama/conflict to keep the story moving along. I know what I'm getting with each one and that they will be very character and relationship driven. The conflicts are lighter and usually cleared up quickly. I know that the book is going to make me feel good and that I'm going to end up in love with the main characters. Plus, we always get a large found family and plenty of cameos from previous books/couples.
I will forever return to this series and reread them over and over again.

If you want a sweet, cute love story with no angst and two simpatico main characters, this would be your choice, especially if you like NA books.
The story itself I'd rate with 3⭐ objectively, my take on it was 2⭐, simply because I didn't like the delivery, so I'm going with 2.75⭐ and I'll round it up, because it's not bad, depends on your taste, really. It's written in BE, it has a European setting (so, very normal and everyday-like), not much is happening beyond gaming and a few school projects.

In this installment there is Leo, the very socially awkward and anxious student who's pretty much alone in the world and loves to stay inside and game, has a gamer buddy Finn, whom he meets in person early on in the story and they become best friends.
If nothing else, I liked how their friendship developed into a relationship. They were oblivious and were telling everyone they were just friends, when they all knew Leo and Finn were together.
There was no hiding because they had to, they just didn't tell anyone anything because they wanted privacy, especially Leo, who didn't like being exposed in any way.
Finn was attentive, caring, very in tune with Leo's needs and even though their relationship reads quite childish at times, at the end of it I thought it was just simple and cute. They did get hot and heavy and at those times you see them as actual college guys, but those times were scarce.
Scarce, but good.
The storytelling however is what completely put me off. Are we reading about adult young men or teenagers? You want to take them seriously, but their story isn't very well told. If the author would lose that many interactions with other people and focus on Leo and Finn alone, this would've been completely different.
Things that bugged me were constant mentioning of "student union", and then
"The guy left after muttering something uncomplimentary about me that I really wished I hadn’t heard, and I made a beeline for the toilet block."
"Niccolò muttered something in Italian that I didn’t understand, but from the murderous look on his face, I was guessing it wasn’t complimentary."
You're talking about two college guys falling in love, for crying out loud.
I don't know, it was just boring. The whole story is told like that, the only parts that are interesting and keep you reading are Finn and Leo's interactions, the rest isn't good.
The daring thing was good only at the beginning, when Finn was trying to coax Leo out of his shell.
I guess the idea was good, it was the storytelling that sucked.
But I did like Leo and Finn's getting together journey, so there's that.

Oblivious Gamer Boyfriends
3.5 Stars ⭐️
I finished this book with the dopiest smile on my face and my husband commented a few days earlier that he hasn’t seen me read a book and smile while reading it in ages. I picked this up thinking it was going to be a run of the mill, horny college story and while the plot is the same old thing, this couple was anything but. Most books with a dare trope are smutty with characters who dare each other to progressively do smuttier and smuttier stuff and then there’s always one who claims he isn’t gay but can’t turn down a dare etc so that’s what I was expecting. It’s not what I got, in the best way. This was an adorable friends to lovers, oblivious gamers who are boyfriends most of the book and everyone knows it but them. They were so sweet together and I just ate it up. It made me so smiley! This is what I consider a quiet book meaning the focus was mostly on the couple and nothing overly dramatic or angsty happened. It was just a lovely story of two men finding the imperfectly perfect person for them and I loved it.
So we have Leo who has social anxiety and is also very shy. He absolutely hates having to do presentations in front of the class but meeting new people stresses him out too. Having social anxiety myself, though I’ve developed strategies over time that have helped immensely, I could totally relate to Leo especially his struggle in unfamiliar places with a lot of people. Those kind of situations used to set off my anxiety and I’d have to get out of there before I’d lose my shit so definitely understood Leo. His closest friend is a guy he met playing a video game but they’ve never met in person. Leo is also a demisexual virgin. Finn is part of the soccer team and all around golden retriever. I won’t spoil how they meet in person but from the moment they met it was just the purest friendship between them. Leo becomes part of Finn’s family and Finn starts daring Leo to do things out of his comfort zone that he knows Leo can do but is just afraid to try. Not sexual things either! This is a low steam book and I was fine with that because I loved the slow burn of their relationship. I loved the nicknames, the trust and care they had for one another and when there were sex scenes, they were realistic for who the characters were. No virgins being demigods in the sack with their 9 inch dick 😂 Some of the scenes were actually a bit cringy and awkward but they fit the characters therefore I had no issue with them.
This can be read as a stand-alone because I skipped book 3 although I’ll most likely go back and read it sometime. I did read books 1-2 but it was so long ago that I can’t remember much and was able to get into this story just fine. That said, there are a lot of characters from the previous books interacting with this couple, I just didn’t feel like I was missing anything not remembering much about them. I’m rounding this up to 4 stars for surprising me in the best way but this is definitely a 3.5 star kind of book because despite how adorable it was, I’m not sure I’ll remember much in a couple months. That said I had a good time reading it and never fell asleep which has been my issue the last few months. I had an unexpected loss this year and it’s tremendously affected my ability to focus on reading especially the angsty ones I usually devour. Maybe I should be happy my most anticipated book is beyond delayed because I don’t know that I could handle it. 🤷🏻♀️ So that’s probably why this low angst, quiet book just worked for me. I usually can’t stand idiots to lovers but these two were beyond adorable. 💗

Leo is in his second year of university, and he's incredibly shy. When he was young he stuttered and would shut down when he had to speak in public. As a result he was bullied as a kid and he has avoided social situations and speaking in public. He's close to only very few people. He plays video games, he studies computers, and he's also minoring in dance but he doesn't really perform. He made friends with a fellow gamer online and they play together all the time and they have slowly started to talk via chat and using their mics sometimes. After quite a lot of months, Leo realizes they met in person. Finn came to one of his dances.
This triggers them getting to know each other in real life too. Their friendship carries over into real life and Finn is a rock for Leo. They are immediately each other's person, they care a lot about each other and they support each other. They are codependent and a bit touch starved. They do a lot of platonic snuggling and cuddling. And then things get a little not so platonic. But it's an awkward line for them to draw about what they are, really really good friends who now kiss and more, or boyfriends.
It's pretty hilarious how before they even are anything at all, everyone assumes they're dating. They are just that close and everyone sees it.
This was a good book. You can say it's pretty juvenile in ways, and some people have a tough time reading books like this where the characters come off so young! But it's so refreshing / enjoyable how sweet and good they are to each other. I am a sucker for platonic touch, and these guys just reeled each other in and burrowed into each other. It was nice that the epilogue was 5 years in the future. We didn't get to see much of them, it was a very short epilogue. But at least we got to see them post college.
Some notable moments:
This was before they were boyfriends. "Leaning into him, I exhaled shakily, mumbling an apology against his shoulder. He sighed, wrapping his arms around me and pressing a kiss to the side of my head. “There’s nothing to be sorry for. This is why I’m here, and I’m not going anywhere.” Lifting my head, I met his gaze. “Thank you for being here.” “Always, baby.” Behind me, there was a loud sigh. “I feel so fucking single when I’m around you two.”"
"“Sorry. Did you want us to act like we’re surprised?” He turned to my mum, widening his eyes and giving a fake gasp. “Can you believe it? Finn and Leo are in a relationship. They were so subtle. I never had a clue.”"

Aww.... I could not get enough of this amazingly sweet, wholesome, and heartfelt romance between shy Leo and friendly Finn. I love how they instantly bonded over video games, and then quickly became attached as friends. Their progression from friends to something more is a great aspect of their story. They are patient with one another, while always listening and supporting as their feelings change.

This is book 4 of the LCU series.
This book opens up with a short traumatic childhood moment of Leo’s. Far out, some kids behaviours can really suck.
Leo is now a university student of computing and dance, a gamer and low self confidence.
“Back to Hammerhead. I knew he was a guy, a second-year student like me, studying for a degree in engineering. Other than gaming, he played for his uni football team. He came across as a patient, easy-going guy, and sometimes I wished I could meet him in person, although I’d probably ruin it with my anxiety and lifelong habit of overthinking every single thing.”
So I’m thinking this Hammerhead guy is going to be a secret future love interest that turns out to be Finn.

Leo realises Finn goes to his university and assumes it’s the end of their friendship because he lied and is basically a nobody. Dude has real issues and I think a therapist would help.
Finn isn’t taking Leo ending the friendship and goes to fix this. He’s forthright and a hugger too. He dares Leo to let him help him with his confidence.
“I dare you to get up on that stage tomorrow and—okay, this is gonna sound really cliché—dance like no one’s watching.”
“I dare you to invite Millie for a coffee when the girls join the game.”

This book has all the feels with the overthinking anxious Leo and his caring protective affectionate Finn. There are adorable secondary characters, supportive teasing friends. I love Finn’s younger brother Ed , what a smooth lady killer wanna be 🤣 and that his family practically adopts Leo. Petition for Ed to get a book!!
I do think Leo’s debilitating anxiety and low self esteem issues were a bit quick fixed and glossed over by the end and with out a professional in sight.
Apart from that, I loved reading Leo and Finn obliviously falling in love .

4.5 ⭐️ The sweet lovestory between Leo and Finn might be one of my favorite cozy reads this year. We are introduced to the two of them as we find out that they are friends online. As Leo has always struggeled with his selfesteem and getting new friends, he likes the version he can be online. So when an event forces him to be honest with his favorite person, a new relationship blossoms between the two of friends.
"Slipping into my online persona, where I could be a confident badass warrior—something I’d never achieve in reality—I switched on my microphone. Shy, anxious Leo was gone…for now, and Viking was ready to play."
I have become so found of Becca Steele's MM stories, and I can't wait to read more of her work. This story is very wholesome, and I love that Leo and Finn get to experience so much together for the first time. Their friendship is beautiful, and I love how it developes throughout the book. If you love friends to lovers, nerdy sweethearts, tons of dares, and all the first times, this is a book for you!

It’s not often that a book makes me cry so when it happens it always stands out! Leo’s story made me so emotional it was hard to read through the tears sometimes! Social anxiety is a super hard thing to cope with and watching Leo go through it and slowly realizing he has true friends and they accept him for who he is and Finn helping him become as confident as he could be was just so beautiful! The past couples do show up in this book but it can still be read as a standalone and I highly recommend this book! So fun and beautiful and sweet!
Leo and Finn were so perfect for each other and even though I would have loved them to talk about their feelings sooner it was still such a great story! Honestly I could go on and on and I’m sure I’ll be rereading this book at some point. I realized I missed a short story about one of Leo’s friends who was just awesome so I will definitely be going back to read it!

Aww these two were soo cute!!! I remember wanting Leo to get a book after reading JJ’s book so I’m glad he got one. I’m also very happy we don’t have any manwhores as MCs because this whole series is filled with them. This is probably the only book in the series where neither is a manwhore and I loved that!!
Finn was just perfect!! I loved his character soo much. He was the sweetest and he would literally do anything for Leo. Leo was literally his everything even when they were saying they were just best friends. I thought it was funny how when they told everyone they were boyfriends everyone was confused because they had already thought they were. I love the best friends who are all over each other vibe they had going on. These are best friends that kiss and cuddle.
While I did like Leo because he was sweet and shy, I do feel like this book was revolved around him. I wanted more about Finn and what he had going on in his life but I felt like it was all about Leo and his anxiety. Everyone dropped everything to help him when he needed it and while I appreciate his friends and Finn for doing that I also wanted more of the focus to be on Finn because he was such a great character. His family was also so amazing as well!!
This book was also a little juvenile. The conversations didn’t seem really organic at some parts and the whole “I dare you” thing seemed super childish to me. I get these guys are like 19-20? But the whole thing still seemed too immature for that age. That’s my only problem with this book.
There wasn’t really any OP drama. There are two girls interested in both Finn and Leo and they hang out with them but it’s clear they would rather just be hanging out with each other. There’s a scene where Leo sees Finn at the bar and it looks like he’s flirting with some girl and he put his hand on her waist but later on we find out that Finn was talking to the girl about Leo the whole time and the girl told Finn he sounded like he was obsessed with him. Which he totally was btw. So no drama really.
Last book is next and I have no idea who it’s about. Maybe Connor?

I didn’t like this. So maybe don’t take my review seriously.
Perhaps I’ve just grown out of Becca Steele’s writing. She used to write more angsty, darker and hotter stories but this felt almost childish. The LSU series has been fine but for me they’ve just gotten progressively boring and so fluffy and sweet that I’m going to choke to death from the absurdness. I’m all for suspending belief in my romance. Hell, I read dark romance that borderlines pitch black. But the two MCs in here, Finn and Leo, are over the top communicative and cute. It got to the point for me that I was getting weirded out and craved some tension😂😂. I wanted some alphaness from them.
Honestly…where was the fire? The angst? The real representation of a relationship and all its ups and downs? Dared just felt too cozy for my liking and lacked real passion.
That’s not to say the writing was bad because it wasn’t but I wanted a bit more. Was expecting more. But to each their own! If you like super sweet MM romances that just give all the rainbows and butterflies this is your story!

I found this one to be so adorable. I’ve read stories before when one of them has either had their gay awakening or has been a virgin, but this story, both of them had no idea what they were doing, and it was so lush to see their relationship develop step by step as they learned that they loved each other a little more than normal friends would. How they defined their relationship and stuck with it until they were ready, even though everyone else was a step ahead of them. But also that no one gave them any pressure to do that. They were just left to figure it out (mostly) on their own, and when they did, it was a little funny and very sweet how everyone else reacted.
Such lovely characters individually, but together these two were the perfect pair. The social anxiety was done really well. I hated presenting at uni; it had me almost vomiting beforehand. I always said it was cruel 😂 Finn was such a loyal friend, patient, and supportive when Leo was struggling.

I absolutely love Finn and Leo. Childhood friends to lovers is one of my favourite tropes because you get to see them bond and grow together as that connection turns into love. But this one is friends to lovers (which is very different btw), so I was a bit sceptical. I was worried they wouldn’t build enough of a connection for me to get emotionally invested in their story, but I’m so glad I was proven wrong.
Their friendship is so pure. It starts with Leo wanting to help Finn with his anxiety, daring him to step out of his comfort zone. The more time they spend together, it’s so obvious they’re more than just friends. The progression is so gradual and believable that I was fully invested in their relationship, literally begging them through the pages to just get together already.
Another thing I love is how, in most MM contemporary romances, the main characters’ families never approve of the relationship because they’re just plain homophobic. But here? Leo’s family absolutely adores Finn. They welcome him into the family with open arms, even before Leo and Finn realise they have feelings for each other. Leo’s family is already assuming they’re a couple lmaooo

Dared is book four in the LSU series. This MM college romance story is about Leo and Finn. I really enjoyed meeting Leo in Ignited as the shy dancer JJ took under his wing, so I was definitely looking forward to reading his book.
Poor Leo was so shy and had major social anxiety. He felt most himself gaming online. Finn was the confident LSU footballer who also enjoyed gaming. These two became online gaming friends, and soon we see them become friends in real life. Finn was so incredibly supportive of Leo. He gave him dares that helped Leo to push himself, and I loved seeing him gain confidence.
Finn also helped Leo out when it came to teaching him how to kiss. Leo had only ever been interested in one person and nothing came of it. Finn had been with women before but not with men. I appreciated how Finn made Leo feel safe and I liked how they both felt comfortable with each other. And boy did they enjoy kissing and cuddling with each other. Finn and Leo definitely had a special friendship, and it eventually progressed into so much more. Their friends would keep insinuating they were together, but it took Finn and Leo quite some time to figure it out. For me personally, I wished they would have discussed their feelings sooner.

“Why…uh…why are you calling me baby?” Good question. “I dunno. It just seems to happen. Do you not like it? I can stop.” “No, I like it,” he whispered into my ear, like he was confiding a secret.This was so different than I thought it would be and I loved it!!! These two are precious together. There are no stupid drawn out miscommunications, no silly unnecessary drama, no crazy breaks-ups. This is just a story of two strangers who become acquaintances and then friends and then become everything to each other.

Leo is a kind and genuine soul, with deep seeded insecurities that compound his social anxiety. He struggles to make friends, join any social environments, and publicly speak. Luckily, he's able to escape where he feels safe - into the world of his favourite online game with his new friend and confidant, Finn. Knowing he'll never have to meet or engage face-to-face makes him able to open up like he isn't otherwise able to. Little do either of them know, they're a lot closer than they think, and are bound to cross paths eventually.

This was the first novel I've read from this author, and it was SO cute. I haven't felt this soft and sappy reading a book in ages, and more than once, this got me misty-eyed. As someone who's struggled with social anxiety my whole life and has been able to overcome parts of it over time, I identified so strongly with Leo. Seeing Finn encourage him through kind and gentle dares and seeing their relationship progress in such a natural and genuine way was so beautiful and healing. This entire book was such a low-stress, sweet read, with so much emotional intelligence, care, and warm characters, that I'm absolutely going to go back through the authors catalog to read everything she's ever written. Capturing people this deeply human and real is a talent, and my God does she have it.
If you want a novel that leaves you feeling whole, with a steady pace, warmth, characters slowly discovering themselves together, plus no third act breakup, this one is for you.

Seeing Finn encourage him through kind and gentle dares and seeing their relationship progress in such a natural and genuine way was so beautiful and healing. This entire book was such a low-stress, sweet read, with so much emotional intelligence, care, and warm characters, that I'm absolutely going to go back through the authors catalog to read everything she's ever written. Capturing people this deeply human and real is a talent, and my God does she have it.
If you want a novel that leaves you feeling whole, with a steady pace, warmth, characters slowly discovering themselves together, plus no third act breakup, this one is for you.

July 12, 2025DNF at 10%. The dialogue was really forced, there’s a lot of bad exposition, and the writing wasn’t capturing me at all. It felt really juvenile too. Onto the next one.

This was beyond adorable. I lost count of how many times I just smiled while reading this. It’s been a minute since I’ve read a book that’s just feel good with little to no angst. This had me giddy and giggling from how sweet and adorable Finn and Leo were.
I just adored Finn and how he cared for Leo. He was so sweet and protective of him. And I just wanted to wrap Leo up in a blanket and protect him from everything bad in the world. Their friendship was so beautiful and natural. They just complimented and fit each other so well.
This is a perfect little palette cleanser from all the angst I’ve been reading lately. This series is definitely a top series for me. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every book.

I found Leo and Finn absolutely adorable. This one might be my favourite of the series though my favourite character will always be JJ. Leo and Finn come a close second, actually I really like Anders and Liam and anyway I digress.. this book was absolutely sweet and lovely and super hot with all that “Practice” - these two had oodles of chemistry.
I felt so fond of both these characters, specially Leo, his struggle was heartbreaking (wish we could have explored his healing more) and I’m glad he had all this support from his friends and Finn and Finn’s family and friends - this book was a great example of found family being a necessity in its own right. I also loved Finn’s energy and how he was low key possessive and so ultra supportive and secure about everything. I would have loved to know what they were thinking though as these feelings of more than friendship and attachment developed for both of them for the first time aside from the attraction. I thought the whole “everyone anyway thinks you’re dating cause you’re such close friends” was very on the nose … made for some hilarious moments.
If you’re looking for a lightish, medium angst but sweet college romance with stellar characters and great chemistry check this one out. I had the best time reading this with my friend Laura (@laura) There are some sensitive themes so do check the trigger warnings
