This book was very chaotic... what unfolds is a light, flirty story full of meddling friends, influencers, a touch of movie star drama, and just the enjoyment of a great little getaway. This is very much the type of book where you can judge it by the cover, because that's exactly what you're going to get. It is the perfect type of book for when you're on a beach or holiday escape. It's not going to change your life. It's not going to revolutionize how you perceive romance. It's not going to be incredibly hard-hitting, but it is going to be a fun and relaxing time.
Now, unfortunately, this book wasn't fully for me... and I was very much the problem. I know the saying is cliché, where it's not "you", it's me...But in this, I am really the issue. But in this case, I really am the issue. The book had elements that I don’t typically enjoy as a reader. There’s nothing wrong with the book, it's just a matter of personal preference. And since I review based on my enjoyment, it definitely impacted my experience.
The first thing to note is that this book is told entirely in the first-person POV of Jessica. As a result, there’s almost this vibe of instalove from Luke, because we never get to see his thoughts, his feelings, his opinions, or how his love for her develops. He seems completely besotted with the main character from the very beginning, and he clearly has no qualms about her being his sister’s best friend. He doesn’t struggle with the idea of telling his sister, or with the fact that he’s younger than Jessica. He just likes her, right from the start.
This also creates a situation where I felt like I couldn’t fully connect with the MMC, because I didn’t get to see how his mind works. I only saw his actions, filtered through Jessica’s perspective. Sometimes this narrative choice can work, but in this case, it felt like it lacked the deeper connection with Luke that I would have appreciated. It also introduced miscommunication and misinterpretation of situations, which tend to annoy me in books.
The second issue that really reinforced the “instalove” vibes was the fact that their entire relationship developed over the course of a week. Their feelings, and everything that happens between them, just felt very fast. I know this is supposed to be a spontaneous little holiday romance, and as a result, it’s meant to have that instant soul mate connection. And that’s very much what’s portrayed between these two. There’s this spark and zing, like they’re magnets, and it genuinely feels like they’re made for each other. But it goes from “Hi, nice to meet you” to “I love you” in the space of seven days. SEVEN DAYS!!! So yes, it’s sweet and cute, but for me, it felt a bit unrealistic. It just seemed a little too fast for that level of emotional connection to truly develop.
Then there was the chaos. There was so much happening, so much going on, it felt like everyone spoke over each other constantly or wasn’t actually listening. This made it so much harder for Jess to communicate because there never seemed to be a right time to actually say something.

When she arrives, she encounters this absolute Adonis of a man, Luke. He is gorgeous, sexy, toned, sculpted, absolutely perfect, and they have a definite spark. The only problem is, it turns out he also happens to be the little brother of one of her best friends. So Jess should most definitely not have feelings for him and should not be attracted to him at all, but she most definitely does. This complicates matters slightly.

this book was such a cute easy read, I read it in one sitting. it was everything I wanted it to be and everything I expected so I had such a fun time reading it. I will say one thing that I personally didn’t like was the use of abbreviations throughout this book. what I mean is there were times where the author wrote btw instead of by the way or v instead of very in Jessie’s thoughts and they did pull me out of the story quite a bit. I do still think this was a good read and I would recommend it if you are after a cute, quick, easy read, and would def say if you want a summer romance, this book delivers.

I read The Pick Up by Hannah Doyle and thoroughly enjoyed it, so naturally, when the opportunity to read her next book presented itself I put my current read on the back burner to quickly binge this one.
The Spa Break is about Jess, a journalist who is unhappy with her job, unhappy with her love life and pretty much everything apart from her two best friends. So when the three decide to take a trip to an exclusive about to open luxury spa, Jess is understandably excited. That excitement only grows when the first other person she meets at the Spa is an irresistibly handsome man that she can’t stop looking at. If it were only simple…
Sadly, the Spa Break fell a little flat for me overall. The story takes place over the span of just seven days, and since the characters (more or less) meet for the first time, their connection is somewhat unbelievable. Some of the scenes didn’t feel fully fleshed out and it feels like at the start we learn a little bit about the MMC, but then he is kind of just there and we find out nothing more about him as a person. As a result, connecting with the two of them as a couple was difficult for me.
I still think the book is worth a read, especially for anyone who wants a closed door romance without any explicit scenes. It’s fun and quick and feel good. I’m excited to see what Hannah Doyle writes next.

Jess is meeting old friends Stella and Em for a week’s break celebrating the soft launch of a brand new, upmarket spa.
If you’re looking for Dickensian style literary fiction, The Spa Break is probably not for you. If, however, you want a simply fabulous read that is laugh aloud funny and brilliant entertainment, then The Spa Break is simply perfect. I loved it.
Firstly, the setting is glorious. An upmarket spa hotel in Northumberland with gorgeous surroundings, sumptuous food and activities to suit every preference is just wonderful. Hannah Doyle had me wanting to pack my bags immediately because she described her setting so effectively.
The three friends, Jessica, Emerald and Stella, have an enviable friendship and the dynamics between them lead to some hilarious moments. Each is very different from the other two so that their personalities balance beautifully. It is, however, Jess whom we get to know most intimately as the narrative is told through her first person voice. I thought the way she developed over the course of the story illustrated beautifully how making the most of life and being true to ourselves is a key to happiness. It’s impossible not to love her from the very beginning of The Spa Break.
Indeed, whilst it is a funny romcom, The Spa Break is also filled with themes that resonate with the reader. Friendship, employment, loyalty, trust, family and self-worth are all explored with an authoritative lightness of touch this super narrative.
I absolutely adored the plot. Basically it is a ‘will they, won’t they’ story of the developing attraction between Jess and Stella’s younger brother Luke. The sexual chemistry and tension between them is brilliantly depicted as it isn’t explicit, but rather is built up through sometimes humorous, sometimes intense and sometimes emotionally vulnerable situations. This means that it feels authentic and convincing. The story races along and feels wonderfully escapist, hugely enjoyable and extremely entertaining.
I finished The Spa Break feeling happy, uplifted and as if I’d had my own break from the cares of life. It’s such a funny, appealing and engaging story that I thought it was terrific. Don’t miss this one.

I am so here for girls trips and watching these friends together has been really interesting and fun. They all have their own different personalities but together they’re just perfect.
Jess, Em and Stella are on this trip to catch up after being separated by life for a while. They’re there for a break, to try and find answers to their current problems whilst relaxing.
Then in comes Luke who throws everything Jess had planned right of course. She’s instantly attracted until she realises who he actually is and yes! Just YES!
There’s chaos, banter and moments that’ll have you laughing.
The Spa Break is a fun and comforting quick read. It’s, I would say, a slow burn but also instant like forbidden romance with zero spice.
This is my first book from this author and it most definitely won’t be my last.

The Spa Break is a light-hearted, comforting, fun, and heartwarming story full of the power female friendships, taking charge of your life and romance.
Luke was a great MMC and the chemistry between Jess (FMC) and him was there from the start. I loved seeing how their relationship built up and enjoyed their quirky flirting and conversations. Although it could sometimes feel superficial and juvenile. Yet, I still loved the way their relationship developed, it was refreshing that it was a closed-door romance and how that fact allowed the story to focus more on character growth and the emotional connection between them. It also opened the space for us to connect more to all of the characters. The secondary characters were as much a part of the story as the main couple. No part was too small and drove the story forward. But I think my favorite part about this story was Jess's friendship with Em and Stella. It reminded me a lot of my friend groups and how friendships can evolve and change and still feel the same as they did back when they started.
This really was a cute story to read and perfect for the Summer!

Aside from the utter ridiculousness that the romance aspect takes place over 7 days
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the friendships so much I felt like I knew them, I think I might actually miss Em and her constantly pumping eyebrows! The addition of Dita just really worked, the language was witty. I feel like the love side took a backseat to the girls friendship

I enjoyed The Pick Up, so it was a no brainer to read The Spa Break when the opportunity arose.
I liked it, but to me it fell a bit flat. Everything happens over the course of week, and because of that, to me it felt that the characters, particular the leading man, wasn't really rounded out. We get to know him, then it is more flat stanley kind of character, rathen than the wonderful love interest.
I enjoyed the setting - who doesn't want a week at a high end resort with our besties? It felt quite immersive, and I could picture myself wandering around the resort.
The star of the book for me though was not one of the friends or the love interests, but a secondary character, who like her profession, stole the scene every time she was on page.
I did enjoy the writing style (could do with a few less "Babes" though), and are easy reads.
This would be a good book if you are after a quick, fun, easy read with a cuppa and some snack.

This was a fantastic lighthearted read. I was immersed in the spa and the activities and also the friendship group. It was lovely to read about 3 very different women’s bond and the history they share.

A week-long spa break with her best friends is exactly what Jess needs. And the guy she spots on the first day is a nice addition, too. Until she realizes it's someone she should've recognized.
I absolutely loved The Pick Up when I read it last year, so I gladly jumped at the opportunity to read this one, but it unfortunately fell a little flat for me. I liked the story, it was a quick, light-hearted read. The writing is really fun and immersive, and it makes it so easy to feel like you're right there with the characters as the story unfolds.
Personally, as the story takes place over a week, I feel like it all happened so quickly it made it a little hard for me to believe the connection between the two main characters. On top of that, the MMC didn't feel fully fleshed out to me, it felt like he was just there most of the times, with nothing more to offer. That said, there's one character that's an absolute stand out to me, and I really liked the friendship between the three girls.
Overall, I do think it is still is a very fun cleanser kind of book, and definitely worth a read. Very quick to get through, and with loads of funny moments.

I absolutely loved The Pick Up when I read it last year, so I gladly jumped at the opportunity to read this one, but it unfortunately fell a little flat for me. I liked the story, it was a quick, light-hearted read. The writing is really fun and immersive, and it makes it so easy to feel like you're right there with the characters as the story unfolds.
Personally, as the story takes place over a week, I feel like it all happened so quickly it made it a little hard for me to believe the connection between the two main characters. On top of that, the MMC didn't feel fully fleshed out to me, it felt like he was just there most of the times, with nothing more to offer. That said, there's one character that's an absolute stand out to me, and I really liked the friendship between the three girls.
Overall, I do think it is still is a very fun cleanser kind of book, and definitely worth a read. Very quick to get through, and with loads of funny moments.

⭐️⭐️⭐️½ – A Feel-Good Read with Charm and Chaos
One of the real highlights of this novel was the warm, witty, and delightfully chaotic friendship between the three women at its core. Their shared stories—full of laugh-out-loud moments, wild escapades, and heartfelt support—brought a vibrant energy to the book. It was refreshing to see female friendship portrayed in such a lively, genuine, and joyously messy way.
The chemistry between Jessie and Luke was another strong point. Their connection felt natural and full of spark, with just enough of a forbidden edge to keep things interesting. I was easily invested in their relationship and found myself rooting for them early on.
That said, the pacing threw me a bit. The story moved very quickly—at times too quickly. I would have appreciated a bit more time for the characters (and readers!) to sit with the big moments, especially when it came to the development of Jessie and Luke’s relationship, which felt extremely rushed in the final stages of the book.
Overall, this was an entertaining and heartfelt read. It’s ideal for fans of fast-paced romance, strong female friendships, and lighthearted drama. While the speed of the plot kept it from being a total standout for me, it was still an enjoyable ride with plenty to love.

Thank you to HQ and Hannah Doyle for this ARC. It was a really lovely read, a lighthearted and fun tale great for a bit of escapism.
I thought the protagonist was written well, she was quite relatable as the ‘sensible’ friend and I thought she was endearing all round. I also appreciated that her friends were well fleshed out too with their own personalities and lives. I would love to read follow up books about their stories!
The setting was excellent, the descriptions of the spa were really immersive without being too flowery so the pacing felt on-point. It also made me really want to go to a spa!
I would have appreciated more time spent exploring the love interest as a person, his quirks outside of the context of the protagonist to make him feel more well rounded, but I do think that’s really minor! I also don’t really like the trope of the super petite protagonist, but I appreciate that may be a personal preference.
I’d recommend it to anyone who is looking for a no spice romance, set in a blissful setting with reasonably low stakes. Also those who like a strong girl gang in their stories!

This was cute, breezy, and packed with summery spa trip vibes, but it didn’t quite soak in the way I hoped.
Jess heads off on a girls’ getaway with her two besties to reset and shake off some serious life burnout, and honestly? The friendship dynamic is where this book shines. Jess, Stella, and Em are chaotic, hilarious, and genuinely supportive in that ride-or-die way that makes you want to crash their group chat. The setting is lush, the spa scenes are indulgent, and there’s plenty of hot tub tequila energy.
The romance? Sweet, but a bit underbaked. Luke (aka her best friend’s brother) is charming and there’s a nice little spark, but it didn’t go quite deep enough for me to fully feel it. It’s flirty, it’s cute, but I wanted more oomph. More tension, more development, just... more.

I really enjoyed this light hearted rom com/best friends vacation book! It was a lovely palette cleanser between some heavy ones for me.
I adored the relationship between the three best friends (Em’s crazy personality was a highlight for me), and the astrology element was fun. Dita was hilarious! I LOVED the luxury spa setting - so, I would have liked a bit less sporty stuff and a bit more relaxation, with the girls getting a facial together or something. It didn’t seem they did much as a trio?
I know it’s a preference thing but after all that delicious tension and slow burn between the romantic leads (looking at you saucy massage), I really wanted a bit of spice! It would have been the cherry on top of the lovely emotional connection they had. Plus there were so many hints about wanting to get to that point that I just felt a bit disappointed that we didn’t get to experience that.
Laughed out loud several times and loved the set up of having seven days on a break and having your life spun around in such a positive way (can this be me now please and thank you)! I’m feeling happy for Jess as if I actually know her! Definitely recommended!

Sweet and innocent fun

Ignore the cover that makes it look like the Med or SoCal, this is set on the Northumberland coast at a brand new spa. Jess hasn’t seen her BFFs Stella and Em in ages so she leaps at the opportunity to spend an all-expenses but discounted week at a spa hotel. Her ex is still in her flat after breaking up two months ago, she’s just been leapfrogged at work, and her parents have just left for a year to travel the world. Then the instant Jess sits down at the pool with a well needed cocktail, she clocks a gorgeous hunk of humanity swimming towards her who doesn’t avoid her eyes. Will Jess be able to keep her mind on her friends when temptation is only a spa appointment away?
Without giving the game away, there are complications between Jess and hunka hunka burning love, as well as rivals, sports injuries and hush hush VIP guests. More com than rom, this is pretty much a script ripe for streaming adaptation, which is no bad thing. It simply breezes by, filled with loving friendships, wish fulfilment and romance, with some brilliantly weird characters of whom I would love to see more (Dita, I’m looking at you).

Firstly, thank you to Net Galley and Harper Collins for a copy of this arc.
I haven’t actually read Doyle’s last book, ‘The Pick Up’, so I went into this read completely blind to her style of writing. With that being said, I saw the summer cover and thought this was the exact kind of book I’d buy to read by the pool on a holiday so I had high hopes. I also love when I read books set in my city, the Northumberland Coast is so underrated.
I enjoyed the essence of this book and the cheery, easy read rom com style. The thing I struggled with the most, and what I found hard to bypass, was the almost immature style of writing. I found the dialect a little bit cringe in places if I’m being completely honest and that’s why I wouldn’t rate it very high. I also appreciate it’s a fictional tale, but it all felt very rushed and the speed of the love connection was a little bit far fetched even for me.
Overall I genuinely did enjoy this and it’s a perfect summer holiday pick me up if you’re in a bit of a slump and ithasn’t put me off trying the authors other books.

The Spa Break is a very well written romcom about Jess, her two friends, and a mystery man who she sees in the pool on her first day on a week long, luxury hotel break. The twists and turns during the book make for an impossible to put down read that makes you need to know what happens on the next page.
It’s a very accurate representation of women in their twenties who struggle to find time for each other due to busy schedules and it was great to see them discuss memories from university and look back fondly.
My main critique is that this book is set in Northumberland, which even at the best of times, is quite windy and cold, especially as this resort seemed to be set on the coast until the last third of the book.
I will be looking into Hannah Doyle’s other books after reading this one!

I am a self-admitted book worm, and I have been the majority of my life. Here lately, I gravitate towards suspenseful books. Ultimately, at my core I am still a fan of romance. Because of this, I was very excited to read this book.
Although I read Hannah’s previous book “The Pick Up,” I still didn’t know what to expect with this one. I have to admit that the plot description definitely is one that piqued my interest. This book definitely blew away any expectations that I had. I was hooked before I had even gotten through the first chapter due to how much I absolutely adored the main character.
I loved this book so much, and am kind of sad that I am done reading it. This book made me laugh out loud at times. In addition to the main character, I really liked the secondary characters as well. I absolutely love the ending!

What a refreshing five-star read. This was refreshing like a spa break itself, I just got swept away with the characters and could imagine myself at the spa with the girls, Jess, Stella and Emerald (I know she gets called Em more, but I simply love her family names) just seem like my type of people, they all have their own lives and are super busy women, but they try their hardest to stay in each other’s lives and still be there for each other, and those are the friends who you know you can rely on, the ones who you may not speak to for weeks or months, but when you do you pick up the conversation like it was yesterday. This story is like a hug wrapped in the pages at times, and its really special, do not miss this one as it will fast become a firm favourite.

2.5 This was not a favorite of mine. The characters and the story felt a bit forgettable and the romance felt kind of forced. In this book we follow Jessica who just broke up with her bf and quit her job decides to go on a getaway. Where she literally falls in love at first sight with her best friend’s little brother. I just never really connected with the characters and felt like the romance was often an after thought. This book was very instalove and didn’t really give us much for the male main character. The third act conflict in this felt very low stakes and kind of pointless. This book just wasn’t for me but I could see others enjoying this. I would like to thank NetGalley and the publishers for a chance to read this book for an honest review.

However she is not expecting to set eyes on a handsome man in the swimming pool on her first day. Things don’t quite go to plan when she finds out who he is but what follows is brilliant.
Although the book is a romantic read it also focuses heavily on friendships and the friendship between the 3 girls is just perfect.

This was a great best friend’s brother romance. It was a really well written story with a slow burn nature. I really liked the characters and I felt like even the side characters brought something special to the story, especially Dita who was a great character. Jess and Luke had great banter and I loved that. Their relationship definitely wasn’t problem free but I liked how they were able to work through things.
This was my second time reading a book by this author and I’m already looking forward to the next one.

I'm so sorry but, if I'm honest, I didn't really vibe with this book... I didn't warm to any of the main characters and the constant use of 'babes' grated on me... Something was missing for me, but I can't put my finger on what!
I enjoyed some of the banter between the characters and the romance, but it felt like there could have been a wee bit more...
Dita was definitely the highlight for me - no filter & says it as it is!
Maybe I'm just in a slump and I need to revisit this again in future!

This was my first book by Hannah and I cannot wait to read her previous books now. This one was about three best friends who go on a spa weekend. They all need the rest for one reason or another. I like how all three women are all real women with real life issues. I feel as though women will be able to relate to at least one of the women in the group. I liked all of the characters and found parts of the story so funny. It was an addictive read full of friendship, love and cheekiness. I loved it and it put a smile on my face for the rest of the day.

There’s lots of modern slang which might bother some people. A few times Jess even thinks stuff like “I’m v not into it” (using ‘v’ instead of very).
It’s a fun, easy read that I stayed up until 1am to finish.

At a crossroads in her life, nothing could be better for Jess than spending a week with her 2 best friends, at a high end spa, figuring out what her next life move should be. Add to that, the hottest man she's ever seen (who turns out to be her BFs younger brother), a glamorous movie star, and a host of adventurous activities; and you have a quick, charming read that won't cause any heartaches but will make you smile.

I thought I was going to like this one more than I did, because Hannah's previous book was so good. Maybe it's just because I don't like the miscommunication trope if it's easily resolved with one good conversation. Especially between best friends I would expect more communication.
The romance was cute though, it didn't disappoint. They had so many cute dates that it felt more realistic when the L-word was thrown around after just a week. If you know, you know.
