Rowan Thatcher, the brash cowboy. Layla black, the contemptuous witch. From the first moment they meet, they get on each other's nerves and do nothing but annoy the other. But, they will also have to depend on each other to save Layla's home and the entire town of Absolution from total destruction from a threat it's never seen before.
Found in the Wild West, Absolution is peaceful, just a desert town where people just want to find their own fresh start. That's why Rowan Thatcher is there, even though his own past is still haunting him. He doesn't want to follow the rules the town has and hand over his guns, and that in and of itself draws the attention of Absolution's own welcoming committee. In this case, the welcoming happens to be a coven of four witches.
The coven has sworn to protect the town and all the people who call the town home from trouble, and they will keep the peace at all costs. It seems though that the coven is as stubborn as Rowan is, as neither is willing to give in to the other's demands. And as Rowan and Layla start to work together, the fire flies, and they really start to annoy the other as they start to make the other's life more and more difficult.
Soon, they have to put their differences aside and work together to protect the town when a mysterious Shadowmancer shows up in Absolution, threatening the peace, threatening the town, threatening everyone. All he wants is some spell that is apparently hidden within the town. And if Layla and Rowan can't work together and not kill one another, this Shadowmancer could kill everyone and everything they love and care about in Absolution.

He's searching for a new start, a place to stay and try and start a new life, and suddenly, he's riding into the town of Absolution. He will not follow the town's rules, though. Like giving up his guns, that's not going to happen. And it's in that defiance that brings him face to face with a powerful witch with low confidence named Layla Black.
Layla together with her coven have sworn that they will protect the town of Absolution and all the surrounding homesteads against any and all threats, and she will butt heads with this stubborn, rule-breaking cowboy at all costs. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Rowan gets under Layla's skin and she hates him for it until she doesn't. I had so many laugh out loud moments reading their story. And the way Rowan was with his deputy was the cutest thing.

This is a great enemies to lovers story. As you read you get to watch the tension between the two of them grow into something more.

I loved the neighborhood witch series so I thought I'd give this ago ..it was bit slow to start but got a lot better ..not as moving as neighborhood witch but I enjoyed it
