She went to the West to marry her childhood sweetheart but finds her life totally turned upside down when she catches the obsessive gaze of a charming, but deadly, outlaw.
One of the absolute best western dark historical I have ever read, not surprising considering the author who wrote it. This is a novel that will plague me in the best way for a long while. The ending was bittersweet and melancholic. 🖤🤧😭✨
If this was published, it would genuinely be over for romance authors—because when I tell you that this was one of the best historical romances I've ever read, I'm being so serious.
The characters, the setting, the tone, the story? Everything about this was so perfect. It's so difficult and rare to come across stories as thorough as this one.
The tears won't stop coming it's not even funny 🥲 easily one of the best things I've read this entire year.
Other woman scene at 70% ruined a story that would've been five stars for me😭 Made me so furious I shed a tear... Don't know where his undying love for her went🙄

Wow what an emotional rollercoaster. I loved this so much! The writing was so well done (even if the AO3 copy I was able to find had spelling errors). It didn’t even matter because the meat of the writing was so creative and thoughtful!
Love how complete the story felt with many Acts and arcs but it never felt redundant. The perfect length for the full story to be told! Multi POV for interesting perspectives and added tension/angst/suspense. Really liked the short chapters from smaller character’s POVs. They really added a lot of substance while not being too often or too long to make it feel bloated.
I cried on and off the entire last 1/3rd of the book which I was not expecting from a kidnapping adventure story. This was a wild ride I thoroughly enjoyed!!
I loved how the characters were complex. Had just enough stereotypical aspects to them to feel like a true Western but enough personality to feel like real people feeling many conflicting and confusing things all at once.
There was no point where I could predict how it could end which is VERY rare in a Romance Book.
The showing instead of telling was beautiful to experience!

This book wrecked me in the last parts in a good way...god it's been a while I'm genuinely feel this invested in any book and go through multitude of emotions, that's what good storyline with proper character depth do to people. OMG the characters itself is so well written, I am a fan of this author now. It's always from the unpublished authors you will find a underrated gem of a book like this one.
Anderson and Arabella journey is one of a kind. I'm rooting for them till the very end, although I want Anderson to grovel for what he had done but you can still understand his perspective and his character and how much he suffers that made forgiving him easier...and the character growth him and Ara both go through is amazing. I feel so much while reading this...but last parts wrecked my insides. The way pain and disbelief I go through...the way I was praying with Anderson for God ( Author) to give them a better chance at life to be together! Arabella is a finest FMC with so much resilience and backbone. She really went through a lot, sacrifices a lot when it was never her fault...But I'm happy that after a hard life and struggle, they actually get to live better...that her sacrifice is not for nothing. I truly admire these characters individually and together, and how humanly they're written... they're not perfect but that's the most beautiful thing about their relationship. Anderson indeed break the stigma of a perfect MMC character with no flaw... that's what make his character stand out. I wish I could get to read more about them. Of their time together in desert. I miss them already, I do the right thing to take my time reading this book.
I don't know why Jonathon had to die , maybe to add more emotional depth to the storyline? But his death was so unfair...he was such a good brother. And some questions remind unanswered like is Archie ever got Punished for his deed, what about Blackjack and John ? What happened to them? Why didn't they come to informed Anderson? Who was the person who see Archie got away in Tularosa after killing Susana? What happened to Theddues ? This questions had remind unanswered...

Tigger ⚠️: Read the Tigger warning before proceeding.
THE ACTUAL BOOK IS CALLED : IF I CAN'T HAVE YOU by DeathsDoll from AO3, ebook.
The book in question is very dark themed and i don't think it is everyone's cup of tea.
A lot of trigger warnings for people reading the book, non-consensual, rape, stockholm syndrom.
If this was a real life scenario, i'd call the cops.
I wanted to read a really dark dark book, without reading the trigger warnings and let me tell you, the book requires you to chuck your morals and ethics out the window before you can read it.
Eventually, it became my life mission to know what the hell is going to happen to Orla and Caleb and Chris. it was a twisted kind of ending, a happy ending but not an ending i would imagine.
overall, i enjoyed this author's writing style, i felt like i was truly with the characters as i was reading.
Can't wait to read any of her future completed projects.
Spoilers : Caleb is obsessed with Orla, so Obsessed that he with the help of Chris drug her and rape her to prove ownership on her and then begins to play a mind fuck game, triggering her anxiety, drug addiction, eating disorder. etc.
Caleb is a guy with a kink of dominance and complete power exchange to the point of drugging and raping his victim for the thrill of it. in his mind, thats how he shows true love and obsession to Orla but really, he is just raping and torturing her til she eventually falls for him in some stockholm syndrom way.
in the end, Caleb and Orla get married, she falls deeply in love with him and the book ends with Chris drugging Orla again so that Caleb can rape her as a congratulation from Chris to Caleb.
Anyways, longest book ever, my brain hurts but yeah.....

My only disappointment from this novel was that the epilogue wasn’t giving at all. I need to know what happened to everyone else! What happened to the noose really? Blackjack? John? Freakin Roper and Thad? I would really like to know they got what they deserve especially for what they did to Jonathan. Yes both of them cause Roper did pull the trigger and Thad lied about it and accused someone else. It was a long read, same as other DeathsDoll novel, but this one somehow felt short. I need more.😩
Not a fan of western, especially historical stories, but this one though would top the list of my favorite novels.☺️ Anderson and Arabella were just perfect. Their character was just perfect. The story, the setting, how they met, how they fell in love with each other, everything was just perfect. I only wish we could get another whole different novel from Arabella’s journal.🥺

I never thought I’d enjoy a western this much, but Lassoed Hearts completely won me over! OMG!!! I think I’m in love with Anderson!
I only discovered Deathsdoll recently (IICHY or BaPF -big warning for BaPF, it’s truly very dark and not for everyone-), but she has already set the bar so high for all my future reads… C'est vous dire !
I’m amazed by her deeply layered characters whose psychology feels so real, and for this one, by the amount of research she must have done to make this western feel so authentic.
Please, please, please keep writing, Deathsdoll; your talent is truly something rare.
I love you Anderson and Arabella 🥺💕 Deathsdoll is such a good author!! My first historical romance book and I loved it 😍 💞 I would say this book is pretty light compared to Deathsdoll’s other books like Bought and Paid For 🖤🔪
TRIGGERS/TROPES: 🖤 historical romance 💛 forbidden love 🖤 noncon/dubcon 💛 virgin 🖤 age gap (9 yrs) 💛 AO3 website 🖤 enemies to lovers 💛 second chance 🖤 infamous outlaw 💛 northern yankee 🖤 “touch her and die” 💛 kidnapping 🖤 time jump (50 yrs) 💛 HEA
my heart hurts so fucking bad 😭 this book was a roller coaster. i don't even know what I wanna rate this. the ending was wayy too painful like im literally sobbing rn and idt I have ever cried this much for a book with a happy ending. my darling babies 😭 my shaylaaaa my babyyy jonathan goodness. this author is so fcking talented and she made the characters so fucking endearing. they were all so well written that i literally don't think i can move on from this book anytime soon
There’ve been fewer books in recent years that have really stuck with me. Dark romance especially; they all blend together. This book is going to stay with me for a looooooong time. I scared the hell outta my husband because I yelled at Frank for being a dumbass and cheered on Arabella for having a backbone and even shed a tear or two in between the swooning and laughter. My heart has been fuckin lassoed by this book 😭🤎🤎
Oh you beautiful amazing human. thank you for writing this. I'm obsessed with how smoothly you move along your plot and add in character development. Man I'm impressed. I'm definitely gonna be re reading this many times.
This book was phenomenal. I swear I will keep this story with me forever. Def a re read type of book. Literally sobbed like a baby the last few chapters . Sooooo good!
😍 I love it! What a wonderful and well-written (dark) love story! Thank you very much—we look forward to your future works. Don’t stop, because you have extraordinary talent.
i did not expect to be crying over a dark romance book but here we are. i did not originally support the mmc for he was broke and dirt poor but MYYY was he a spiritual experience. it was not said much by the end what he did when he got her back but i am certain that he did everything he could to try and be a good man for her. i like to think that
i wanted to rate this 3 stars because as i mentioned i did not like that he was not giving girlie the lifestyle she deserves to have but i like to believe that when they went to Minessota he was a newly made man and he did EVERYTHING in his power to live up to the man she deserves to have
i won’t live with someone like him though if i was in the girl’s position too much problems but MYY he was truly a MANNNNN hard to say no to
time to read more of deathsdoll now 🫠
