मानव का उपन्यास ‘साक्षात्कार’ लेखन एवं वास्तविकता के बीच बहुत दिलचस्प आवाजाही करता है और लेखक, लेखन तथा उसके जीवन के भेद को कथासूत्र में पिरोता है। इस उपन्यास के तीन मुख्य पात्रों की अपनी-अपनी कहानी हैं, तीनों एक ही कहानी के तीन संस्करण हैं, लेकिन किस तरह वे एक-दूसरे के वास्तविक जीवन और फ़िक्शनल ज़िंदगी को प्रभावित करते हैं- इस उपन्यास का बहुत ही उल्लेखनीय पक्ष है। एक मनुष्य का कितना जीवन वास्तविक है और उस वास्तविकता में कल्पना कहाँ से प्रवेश करती है और किस तरफ़ यात्रा करती है- इस उपन्यास के मूल में है।

कश्मीर के बारामूला में पैदा हुए मानव कौल, होशंगाबाद (म.प्र.) में परवरिश के रास्ते पिछले 20 सालों से मुंबई में फ़िल्मी दुनिया, अभिनय, नाट्य-निर्देशन और लेखन का अभिन्न हिस्सा बने हुए हैं। अपने हर नए नाटक से हिंदी रंगमंच की दुनिया को चौंकाने वाले मानव ने अपने ख़ास गद्य के लिए साहित्य-पाठकों के बीच भी उतनी ही विशेष जगह बनाई है। इनकी पिछली दोनों किताबें ‘ठीक तुम्हारे पीछे’ और ‘प्रेम कबूतर’ दैनिक जागरण नीलसन बेस्टसेलर में शामिल हो चुकी हैं।

मानव कौल सर का एक और उपन्यास— साक्षात्कार ।

लेखक अपने अलग लेखन शैली से सबका दिल जीत लेते हैं। मैं उन्हें लिखते हुए उनके मन में जो चल रहा होता है वो जानना चाहती हूँ। वो क्या सोच रहे होते हैं जब एक कहानी उनके आस पास घूम रही होती है उस पल को महसूस करना अपने आप में बहुत कुछ है। अभी तक जितना @manavkaul सर को पढ़ पायी हूँ बस इतना समझ पायी हूँ की ऐसा कुछ लिखने को आपको ख़ुद से या तो बहुत दूर होना होता होगा या ख़ुद के बहुत पास आना होता होगा और ये सब कर पाना सबके लिए मुमकिन नहीं, वरना सब लेखक हो जाते।
साक्षात्कार कहानी के भीतर कहानी है, जो लेखक भी जी रहे हैं और लेखक के पात्र भी उस कहानी के भीतर की कहानी को जी रहे हैं और इतना कुछ समझना और लिख पाना अपने आप में अदभुत है।
एक लेखक का लिखा किस तरह उसके जीवन और लेखन में यात्रा कर रहा होता है उसे मानव सर की क़िताबों से सच में महसूस किया जा सकता है।।❤️

Sakshatkar by Manav Kaul is a fascinating story about three main characters: a famous author, Shubhankar, a columnist named Ativ, and the bold and mysterious Rubina. Their lives intertwine as they each end up writing about the same storyline.

What makes this novel special is how real it feels—it’s as if the events are happening right around you. The line between reality and the story they’re writing becomes so blurred that it’s hard to tell them apart. The writing draws you into the author’s thoughts, making the experience personal and deeply engaging.

Manav Kaul’s storytelling is so powerful and authentic that it’s hard to stop reading. The relationships between Shubhankar, Rubina, and Ativ are complex yet relatable. Ativ’s insecurities and Rubina’s confidence (she is also called Titli) create an interesting contrast that keeps you hooked.

This has been my favorite book of the year so far. However, the ending left me heartbroken. I was rooting for Rubina, but the way her story ended felt unfair—she deserved better. Even so, the emotional depth and the connections between the characters make this novel unforgettable.

लिखा हुआ और जिया हुआ, आँखों की बातें और कानों का सुना, लेखन की चाह और लेखक होना, तथा कल्पना और जीवन के बीच पैदा हुए फिक्शन के धागे को और उलझाता, मानव कौल का यह उपन्यास उनकी 14वीं किताब है। चाहे आपने उनकीं कितनी ही किताबें पढ़ी हों, उनके लेखन में हर बार किए गए नए प्रयोग आपको चौकातें हैं।

उनका “इसके आगे ही तो कहानी है ! ” और “गुरु, वहीं से खेल जाओ” का मतलब साल भर बाद समझ आ रहा है। एक सुबह मुझे, उनके अच्छा लिखने के बाद बने खुशनुमा मिज़ाज का भागीदार बनने का अवसर मिला। “क्या खूब लिखा आज! एक यंग राइटर के बारे में लिख रहा हूँ” खुद को भी सुनाई न दे, वैसे कुर्सी से उछलते हुए बुदबुदाए थे। अच्छा लिख लेने के बाद ऐसी खुशी होगी की प्रेरणा इस उपन्यास को पढ़ते हुए साथ चली।

पाठक के तौर पर कई जगह उपन्यास Interstellar की तरह उलझ गया, मानो वह अंत की खोज में घिसट रहा हो। मेरे लिए उनके लिखे में घिसटना भी सुख दे रहा था।

अतीव को मैं समझ सकता हूँ, उसका जीवन खोज और संघर्ष में बसर होना तय है। क्या शुभांकर उसके बाद कुछ लिख पाए?
रुबीना का त्याग, उसका नास्तिक होना और लेखक होना,
क्या ये उसकी संतृप्ति है या भूख?

First of all , it is important to consume a reading while disconnected with its appearance and author.
I am quite critical of book cover and the author itself ,due to his moral deficiency. This book only taught me this lesson.
I appreciate Manav for his courage and risk to write so complicated book. He knit this web of similar things ,reflecting his skill and expertise of writing. It shows his practice.
Instead of taking you on protagonist's journey . He gives you three perspectives and three truths from three related character.
Although the ending is not very convincing. But here journey is more important.
Also , I don't want to discourage you but writing isn't as rosy as it seems here.
Disclaimer :Not an easy read and you'll like it more only when you are good reader or have keen interest in writing. As this book is all about writers and their minds.

Three main characters rubina, ativ and subhankar.
Conversations felt so real. Ativ's character felt hypocrite many times.. but rubina was AWESOME
