Sad. Really sad. This is "sitting in his room and playing with the train they gave him the last Christmas they were alive" level Bruce, still one of the best Batman comics to date.

Bruce's torment is showing. This is the Batman I enjoy.

It's Mother's Day. Batman returns to Arkham Ayslum to visit Calendar Man for help in solving the Holiday murders. While there, a jailbreak occurs as Scarecrow escapes. Batman follows and ends up at the cemetery his mother is buried in. He flashes back to the fateful night she was murdered. It was Bruce who had insisted she wear the pearls. She explained they were for a "special night". Isn't going to the movies with your son special? Indeed. And she paid for it with her life. Now Bruce grieves. As he does, Harvey and Gordon move in for an arrest of Bruce, since he has a connection with Falcone.

"He wanted the pearls."

Sofia is on the trail of Holiday, meanwhile, Bruce has a run-in with Scarecrow's fear toxin and has to deal with the effects on Mother's Day, of all days, while Gordon and his men are chasing him. Beautifully tragic in Bruce repeating, under the fear toxin, saying "He wanted the pearls."

Felt kind of slow in the middle, but Batman interacting with Calendar man is always welcome plus a fun scarecrow encounter that leaves you gut-punched; Great read
