Dylan Thomas, a cowboy with a tough childhood, is as settled as the bucking bulls he used to ride for a living. His lifelong mode of operation has been to avoid attachments and only take care of himself, because nobody else was going to. After an almost career-ending injury, he's been stuck at the R & R Ranch teaching snobby rich guys to ride bulls until he can get back to the rodeo. He's restless and ready to get back on the road, until a new guest shows up at the ranch. A sad-eyed widow named Carrie Collins who smells like sugar cookies and kisses like an angel. Dylan doesn't do relationships, but he has a weakness for sugar cookies, and for Carrie Collins.
Worn out widow Carrie Collins is at the end of her rope, and hanging on by a thread. She's up to her eyeballs in bills, and her two children are out of control. So what does her dead husband's best friend think is the perfect solution to her problems? A visit to a Texas dude ranch, masquerading as a spa for the rich and famous. Carrie thinks he's lost his mind, but goes along. When she meets handsome ranch hand, Dylan Thomas, at the ranch she doesn't think it's quite so bad an idea after all. Dylan suggests they take a ride to the lake, and Carrie jumps in with both feet. It's been three years since her husband died, and she figures it's about time she got back in the saddle of life...and other things.
With his doctor's release in hand, Dylan has nothing holding him back from reclaiming his former life, except the trouble Carrie's son Chris has borrowed by getting in with the wrong crowd. When things heat up, and Carrie is in trouble too, does he save the girl or save himself?

I was not sure I would like Callie after we met her in Trace's book. But I have always loved Dylan! So I was really skeptical about how these two would become a pair. Becky blew me away! I absolutely loved the journey she took them on to find love. I really enjoyed every single page. Bravo woman you rocked it. Write On. Davia
Carrie Collins is a widow, and the mother of two headstrong kids. Her oldest, Chris, has been in all kinds of trouble since the death of her husband, and it's taking its toll on her. Dylan Thomas is a former rodeo bronco rider. After an accident left him unable to do the work he loved, he hired on at the R&R Ranch, showing pampered vacationers how to ride.
When taking care of her son's escapades proves too much, Carrie is sent off from some spa time at the R&R Ranch by some friends. The last thing that she's looking for is a man, especially a sexy cowboy, who doesn't do relationships. Carrie has only ever had one relationship, with her husband, an undercover detective. After he was killed in the line of duty, life became one hardship after another. Forced to sell her home and move back in with her parents, she is constantly worried about making ends meet. She's constantly stressed, even at the R&R, and when she's stressed, she bakes. Cakes, cookies, cupcakes, she does it all.
Then there's Dylan. Oh, Dylan. He's lived a hard life, never had any roots, after the death of his parents sent him and his brothers into the foster care system. He signed on with the rodeo at a young age, and has never stopped roaming. His time at the R&R is as close to settled as he's ever been.
"One night stands are my type, temporary women. I don't do relationships. You bake cookies, sweetheart. Not my type."
As much as they fight it, though, neither Carrie nor Dylan are able to avoid the attraction that draws them to each other. And, though they think otherwise, maybe each of them is exactly what the other needs.
'Borrowing Trouble' is the twelfth book in the 'Texas Trouble' series by Becky McGraw. I was completely able to read it as a standalone, although I would like to go back and read the previous books. I really enjoyed the story, and the characters were all so likable. I really felt for Carrie, who was truly just doing what she could to keep it together. And Dylan, even when he was being a jerk, was so sexy and funny, that I just couldn't help but love him. What I also liked about this books is that there is a whole subplot that is more suspense that keeps the action going. The author has done a nice job of inter-weaving the two storylines, making this more than just a love story. This book was a solid 4 stars for me, and I would recommend it if you're looking for a fast-paced story that has elements of suspense and drama, along with all the sexy hotness of a good cowboy romance.
I received a copy of this book from the Author, Becky McGraw, as part of a promotional tour, in exchange for an honest review.
The Review
This is the second book I’ve read by Becky McGraw. The first one was Book 11, “Trouble With The Law” - Read Review HERE(Yes, I really need to start at the beginning, I know.) I thought I loved Trace and Ronnie’s story, but that in no way compared to Dylan and Carrie.
Two damaged hearts and souls, who somehow find their way to each other. One who is afraid to love again, but takes the leap anyway and the other who has never known love and runs from the thought of it.
I loved both of these characters so very much. Both have been through a lot and even when Carrie is losing it, she’s still so strong and fearless. Dylan however is a scared little boy in a grown man’s body. You find yourself crying with Carrie and crying FOR Dylan.
There are so many moments that stand out for me. Except for losing her husband, I was able to relate to Carrie on many levels. Putting her needs and feelings on hold, to be strong for her children and to help them cope with losing their father. Losing herself in the process. That moment on the horse, when she lets it run, is her finally letting loose and letting herself be free, for even just a moment. Dylan thought she was hiding the fact she was a mother from him, but I knew what she was doing. She just wanted to be Carrie. A woman with desires and who wants to be desired. She just wanted to feel. Be in the moment. Not be “mom”. Not have to worry about another human being for just a little while and worry that their whole quality of life and childhood depends on every single thing you do or say. I think every woman or mother has felt like that at one point in her life.
And Dylan. Sweet, sexy, selfish and heartbroken Dylan. He’s the man we all want to screw to oblivion while trying to fix their wounded inner little boy. The man we want to slap silly, yet love with all our hearts. The man we know we should run fast and far away from, but find ourselves stripping down our souls, hearts and bodies for.
The chemistry these two have is mind blowing and explosive. Especially the scene in the kitchen. Holy shit! I want to be Dylan’s damn sugar cookie!!! He can eat me anytime!
If I wasn’t a Becky McGraw fan before, I most DEFINITELY am now! I’m also investing in a pair of those panties!! ♥
This was my first book by Becky McGraw but has a fan for life. OMG I can not say enough about her writing. She has such a way with words; they draw you into the story, feeling what the characters are feeling. I cried, laughed, was mad as hell, felt loved, had my heart broken and put back together, cried some more, had several oh nooooo that can not happen moments all within the pages of this book. Much love for this book.
Carrie Collins is a young widowed mother of Chris and Izzy is trying to make ends meet after thinking that her husband would be there to grow old with her. She has to sell their home, move back home with her parents. Not exactly how she thought her life would turn out. Her son Chris, 13, has been getting into nothing but trouble since the murder of his father. He has been arrested and seems to be headed down the wrong road.
Dylan Thomas, injured pro bull rider, has been buying his time allowing his shoulder to heal at the R&R Ranch. He is there to help show the folks who come to the ranch how to ride a bull. It is a pretty laid back job but Dylan is getting restless, the road is calling to him. He had a hard life as a youngster. Having bounced from foster family to foster family losing touch with his 3 brothers along the way.
Carrie is sent to the R&R Ranch to relax and enjoy herself. She is to forget that she is a mother of 2. She is having a hard time doing this but once she runs into a tall handsome cowboy at the ranch, a burning desires that she has not felt in years starts to course through her body. Dylan knows better than to get involved with a guest but something about this vanilla smelling woman calls to him.
As Carrie and Dylan get to know each other, things heat up and sometimes no strings attached is harder to do. Can they continue to deny that they are only friends with benefits? Will Dylan be able to finally find love in this sugar cookie of a woman Carrie? Can Carrie give her heart away and risk happy ever after again? Does Chris stay out of trouble or will he end his young teenage years in jail breaking his mother’s heart?
What more can I say about this book but I absolutely loved it. It touched my heart from the very beginning and I was unable to put it down until I had read the last line. There was just enough romance, drama, suspense, a few twist and turns in the story and hot cowboys within this book to have you wanting to visit the R&R Ranch yourself.
Dylan is tumbleweed, has been since he was 13, going whereever the road might take him. Hurting his arm forced him to stop and set roots, even if only for a little while, at the R & R Ranch teaching snooty rich people how to ride bulls. It's not the best thing in the world and he's ready to hit the road as soon as he gets the all clear for the doctor. What he never expected was Carrie.
Carrie lost her husband 3 years ago when an undercover op he was on went tragically wrong. She's been barely surviving since then trying to take care of her two kids, one being her 13 year old son who's getting into more trouble than she can handle. She's not so much asked as told she needs a break and that she's going to go and get some relaxiation weather she likes it or not. Ok so it's not a punishment but after so long she has no clue how to relax. And then comes Dylan stumbiling his way into her life.
He's rough and abrasive and thinks he knows what he wants. He has a good heart and people who care even if he doesn't see it. Trying so hard to go back to what he thinks he wants he sometimes didn't see what was right in front of him and there were times I just wanted to smack him upside his head. Carrie is sweet and caring and has entirely too much on her plate. She doesn't know how to let go and needs someone to help her see things differently. The two are explosive together weather in the bedroom or not their chemestry comes through loud and clear when things are getting HOT or when they're fighting to make the other see their point.
With conflict coming from many different directions it makes for a non stop, never know whats gonna happen next story.
First let me say that I love romance novels about cowboys, and Becky McGraw does not disappoint when it comes to cowboys! This is not the first book that I have read by her, I started with "Worth the Trouble", the ninth book in this series, because I was lucky enough to win a paperback copy, and now I am hooked. I already have the first three on my Kindle, and plan to go back and read the whole series, yes they are that good! This book was about Carrie Collins, a widowed mother of two, Chris and Izzy. She has had a tough time since her husbands death, and even before, but her son is having an even tougher time, he cannot seem to stay out of trouble, and Carrie has no idea how to help him. Her friends send her to the R&R Ranch, for a week of downtime. At the ranch she meets Dylan Thomas, a hot and sexy cowboy, who is working there while he heals from an injury he received on the rodeo circuit. The last thing that Dylan wants is a relationship, he has not had an easy life and has vowed not to get close to anyone, including a sad, beautiful widow, who smells like sugar cookies. As the two of them get to know each other, he has a hard time turning away from this woman, who just needs help getting her life back on the right track. Throw in a lot of baking, a new Aussie on the ranch, a little black bag found hanging in a closet, a remote control, a son headed down the wrong road, and sparks flying when these two are together, and I was not able to read fast enough. So, if you love romance, suspense, cowboys, family, friends and a few surprises along the way, you have to read this book!
Carrie is a single mother of two children. Chris is 13 and Izzy is 10. She lives on a ranch with her mother and father, helping them out while raising her two children. Her husband was a former cop and was killed in the line of duty. Chris keeps getting into trouble. He already was arrested for drug possesion and running from the law. Trace Rooks was a friend of her husband and he was sent to jail for his murder. He was framed and they find out who really did it and released Trace. He came by the ranch and told Carrie she needed a week away and he would keep the kids. They sent her to R & R Ranch to relax. While there she meets Dylan Thomas and she finds him very attractive. He is a horse and bull rider instructor for the ranch. He is on leave from the rodeo because he hurt his shoulder during a bull ride. He believes in no commitments, no relationships, and especially no love. Chris gets into trouble while Carrie is at the ranch. He steals Trace's truck and has a gun on the seat and runs from the police after he wrecks his truck. He is really in trouble now and his mom wants to live him in Juivie instead of paying his bail. Dylan convinces her to let him go to Hope Ranch because they helped to straighten him out as a teenager. There is a lot going on in this book as Carrie and Dylan get closer and they really find out what is going on with Chris. It puts them in danger. You will love this book. It does has some sexual scenes in it.
I really enjoyed Borrowing Trouble. This book can be read within the series or read as a standalone easily.
We are introduced to Carrie, she's been a widow of slightly over three years, single mother of two. She's kept herself busy taking care of the kids and trying to stay ahead of bills. After three years, Carrie is still grieving and is in a situation where she's trying to be the best mom she can be for her two kids, especially when her teenage son seems to be getting into trouble at every turn. An old friend shows up and tells her she's going to a ranch to relax and take a break for a week.
This is where Dylan comes into the picture, these two really do physically run into one another on several occasions. They have an attraction for one another and initially there is a lot of misunderstanding. As the story goes on, we learn about Dylan's past, why he's so dead set about leaving town and getting back into the rodeo circuit.
In the end they are both trying to find their place in life, and "fit" somewhere in this crazy life and when both people aren't quite sure if there is a happy ever after, and things are left unsaid, it's no easy feat for either of them, when they come to a crossroad who and which path will they choose? This book is worthy of reading. ~Gifted copy in exchange for honest review
Borrowing Trouble is the newest book in Becky McGraw’s Texas Trouble Series. I really enjoyed reading this book and I love the fact that even though these books are all part of a series they can also be read as stand alones. This book introduces us to Dylan and Carrie. Dylan has been working at the R & R Ranch teaching the rich guests how to ride bulls while he recovers from an almost career ending injury. Carrie is an over-stressed single mom who was widowed 3 years ago. Her friends, Trace and Ronnie, send her to the R & R Ranch to have a vacation and finally take some time for herself for a change. Little does anyone know that this vacation is going to change everything for both Carrie and Dylan.
I really liked Carrie’s character. She was very easy to relate to and it was easy to see how much she loved her children. She faced a lot of the same struggles that many of us can relate to from our own everyday lives. Dylan was an awesome character. He was hot as hell and a cowboy, what more could you want!!!! I also liked the way that Dylan stepped up and tried to help Carrie’s son when he saw that he was going through a rough time. This showed that he was a really good man. The supporting characters in this book were also a great asset to this story. I give this book 4 stars and will be looking forward to the next book in this amazing series!!!!
Becky has done it again with the TROUBLE series, she has written a great and exciting book with characters that we have learned to love and new characters. I would bet that the next few books are with Dylan's brothers.
Borrowing Trouble brought together Dylan and Carrie. Carrie has been through a lot with her husband being killed by a partner and her son trying to do his bit by trying to help but causing Carrie grief and stress.
Dylan thought that with his upbringing he would never love anyone and would live a life on his own. He didn't realise that he had 'family' right under his nose and didn't know it until it was nearly too late.
Dylan learns that love can come in many forms. Carrie and her children get under his skin and it isn't until he walks away that he realises that he can be loved and love others. Trouble finds Carrie before Dylan can truly confess to Carrie but that doesn't stop him for trying.
This is a great read and brings together Texas, cowboys, trouble and love. What a great combination and Becky certainly knows how to draw out the emotions and problems of people and help solve them by drawing you into the story.
Dylan Thomas is a rodeo cowboy working at the R& R Ranch until his shoulder is healed enough to get back on the road. Carrie Collins, a young widow, is sent to the R & R by her friends to rest, but it is hard for her to relax when she has two kids and a hill full of bills to worry about. Little did these two know that they would have an instead attraction and that trouble was never too far behind.
I loved this story. Dylan is the perfect handsome cowboy that although he won't admit it, really needs the home life that he never had. Carrie thinks she has no time for romance and a traveling cowboy is the last thing she needs. I was cheering from the start to see these two end up together!! The story was engaging, suspenseful, realistic, romantic, and had just the right amount of sweet and spicy.
I am actually only on book five of the Texas trouble series but I read this one anyway. It was written in a way that you could read it as a stand alone book and not be lost at all. This is fast becoming one of my favorite series!
Borrowing Trouble is book 12 in the Texas Trouble series. Each book is able to be read as a stand alone and follows a different couple. This is the first book I read in the Texas Trouble series. I wasn't lost but some of the characters that appear in this book have had their own book previously. I did have a little trouble originally getting into the story because there is reference to events the had previously happened.
Carrie Collins has two children and a deceased husband. Life has been tough for her and her family. Trace shows up with his wife and offers her a break at a ranch that he knows the owners of. There she meets Dylan. Either one is ready for the attraction they feel for each other. I like both Carrie and Dylan. Dylan's character was a little wishy washy. He went from worrying whether Carrie was pregnant and saying he didn't want kids to instantly help Carrie's son Chris. It really didn't seem like his character went through enough growth to get from one end to the other. Other than that it was a great sweet story.
Okay so I am way out of reading order here, until this book I'd only read the first one. Shame on me, I have to go back and read the other 10 in between that I've somehow overlooked for so long.
Dylan is a bit of a broken down cowboy, loner, hot as hell, and knows how to handle a remote control! ( Don't worry, you'll understand later) Cassie is a strong woman, widow, single mom trying to do it all. I love Cassie, I get so annoyed with whiny heroines in books, the kind who cry all the time and expect the man to save them, that's not Cassie thank you Becky McGraw!! When strong outspoken Cassie meets Dylan sparks fly, an honestly how could anyone resist Dylan, that man is sex on a stick. Toss in a black bag full of surprises see where it takes them. Very well written story that keeps you glued to your kindle, I was up late finishing this book because I couldn't stand the idea of stopping before it was over.
The book will throw you from one emotion to the other You will be crying one minute and laughing uncontrollably the next. Dylan broke my heart he has been alone since he Was thirteen years old. Lost everything and was head fora wholelot of trouble but.He became a wanderer and had sworn to always be .............. Carrie had been living in the dark trying to make it all work Loosing more then any human should. She could break She could stop or give up. Her kids needed her one was already Headed down the wrong path p, he was so young and was hurting so bad So was she. Who could she turn to to help her need. Can two paths cross with out them having a effect on each other Feel the raw emotions as it unfold and see what need can truly Bring to your life Will they find out that it's not need it's love..... And it can heal them both She gave him something he will never Be able to thank her for .......... Read this awesome journey you Will also enjoy the others by Becky McGraw
Carrie is a single mom with two kids who is struggling to deal with the death of her husband, a mountain of debt and a son who seems to be turning into a delinquent.
Dylan is a former rodeo star who was injured and has been trying to speed up his recovery to go back into the circuit, while working as a bull riding trainer at a ranch. He has been a loner since he was 13 and wants nothing to do with the "family scene"
What is not to love about a Texas trouble book. As always Becky McGraw has thrown in the perfect amount of Hot Cowboys, Strong Women, Love, Laughter, and Dramatic content. I have read all of the Texas Trouble books and they just keep getting better. Another raving success and I can't wait to ready more from this rowdy bunch :)
Though I have a few of Becky McGraw's books on my kindle as TBR this is my first time reading one of her books.
This is the story of a cowboy - Dylan - who has injury in a rodeo ride. Carrie is a widowed, worn, tired, broke woman raising two children. When Dylan and Carrie come together in their stay at the ranch, there is only one word to describe it - HOT!!!
I've read other cowboy stories before, but this is the first time where I actuallly have a feel of why cowboys are so hot (I am from the Northeast). Becky knows her cowboys and gives you the feel of Texas and what cowboys are really about!
Poor Carrie went through the trauma of losing her husband in the line of duty.. Three years later she moves to her daddy's ranch, to try get her wayward son out of trouble.. She ends up at R & R, to have a break and pull herself together... There she meets Dylan, who sets her pulse racing... There's just one problem, she's looking for a forever kind of guy.... But Dylan is adamant it's not him... After his mother commits suicide, him and his brother are put in the care system... And he's determined to not follow in her footsteps...
Dylan does want or need anybody to love him he doesn't want to get attached to anybody until he meets Carrie .. Carrie husband died three years ago and left her to all these unpaid bills and heartache that she seem not to be able to let go .. Carrie and Dylan had a love & hate thing going on until something happen .. I won't tell you I don't like to give away spoilers but you must read this .. There is plenty of romance and sex and adventure all in one book ...
This is the twelfth book in this series. I read it as a standalone and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'll certainly be going back and reading others in this series as this author is brilliant.
Carries had a tough time since her husband died. To have a break her friends send her to a ranch. Here she meets the hot and sexy cowboy Dylan. 1-click this book to read their brilliant story.
If your looking for a great story full of romance and suspense then this is for you.
What a brilliant ending to a series from Becky Dylan and Carrie has a hell raising romantic affair with plenty of drama thrown in loved her kids Chris and Izzy so sweet and just what Dylan needs he is a whole lotta cowboy 🤠 to handle and it takes the three of them to do it. So sad this has ended hope we get to read more from the old and new characters from this series in her other books
This is the first one I have read in this series and now I have to go back and start at the beginning and read the whole series cause I loved it. It is very well-written and the story keeps you interested the whole way through.
I absolutely enjoyed reading this book and would recommend this series and it was suspenseful, action packed with the romance to boot. I couldn't get thru this Book fast enough. McGraw books are all great books to read!!! So far this book was the best, couldn't put it down!!!
Story about live and loss and how to live again. For one person, how to love anyone. Carrie and Dylan are a hot mess together. They have so much heard ache between them but finding each other heals them both.
loved dylan and Cassie's story. it had a great plot and was steamy as hell. Loved the miscommunications and each of there views of relationship. Becky did a great job again. It was nice to see Deep Six Security again in this book.
