I don’t know about you, but when I check out an author's bio, it’s usually because I’ve read a book I liked and wondered about the person behind it. Let's skip the formal bio and I'll give you the inside scoop on who Roxanne St. Claire really is.

First of all, call me Rocki. Everyone does. Evidently, when my mother brought me home from the hospital I seemed too scrawny and small to pull off “Roxanne” (she’d read Cyrano de Bergerac while pregnant or I would have been Judy) so they called me Rocki.

I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, the youngest of five (overachievers, every one), and fell in love with words and stories the summer I read Gone With The Wind. That year, for my twelfth birthday, my parents gave me a typewriter (with italic font – it was the coolest thing) and from that day on, I’ve had my fingers on a keyboard, pounding out love stories for fun. My AP English teacher taught me the two most important lessons an aspiring author ever needs: 1) verbs are the key to life and 2) a writer should get a real job. After attending UCLA and graduating with a degree in communications, I tried acting and television broadcasting. Oh, they aren’t real jobs? I learned that the hard way. I changed my last name from Zink to St. Claire because a news producer told me Roxanne Zink had too many harsh consonants for a TV personality – apparently Katie Couric didn’t get the memo. I got some fun gigs, and even met Tom Hanks when I did a guest appearance on Bosom Buddies. I liked on camera work, but wasn’t too crazy about starvation, so I moved to Boston and got that “real” job. In fact, I placed my foot on the bottom rung of the corporate ladder and didn’t look down until I’d climbed all the way up to the level of Senior Vice President at the world’s largest public relations firm. On the way up, I met the man of my dreams in an elevator. Two years later – in the same elevator! – he asked me to marry him and I wisely said yes.

I stayed in PR, moved to Miami, had a few babies, lost my home in a hurricane, built another one a few hours north and all along, I kept writing my “stories” for fun. One night, I read a particularly fabulous romance novel that changed my life for good. That night, I decided I wanted to make someone else feel as whole and happy as that author made me feel. (Everyone asks! It was Nobody’s Baby But Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips.) With two small children and one big “real” job, writing my first novel wasn’t easy, but I did finish a manuscript that managed to get the attention of a literary agent. She told me to do one thing and one thing fast: write another book. (The first one is usually a “learner” book, honestly.) That second manuscript sold to Simon & Schuster’s Pocket Books and was released in 2003 as Tropical Getaway. Since then, I’ve written almost thirty more, in multiple genres, and long ago replaced the corporate ladder with the rollercoaster of publishing as a full-time novelist. Finally, writing is my real job.

Today, I live in a small beach community in Florida with my husband and two dogs. Our kids are off to college and law school, which means my nest is empty! I spend my time writing, working with the kids at my church, enjoying my husband's gourmet cooking, and hanging with my many writer friends. Of course, I love to read. I’m still crazy about words and stories and hope to write at least a hundred books in my lifetime. And, yes, verbs are the key to life. My favorites? Love. Work. Believe.

xoxo
Rocki

Finally, I've read a great book again! After a month long drought of finding any book I could get into, I was starting to get worried. I should have known a Sillouette Desire book could cure me of that.

Jessie Clayton has always loved fashion and dreamed of working for Charisma magazine. When she learns that her birth mother is the head of the magazine, she finds it is the perfect opportunity to find out about her mother.

Now 6 months later, Jessie has done everything possible to avoid Fiona "Fin" Elliott. But that has come with a price. Cade McMann, Fin's right hand man, has noticed her avoidance of Fin. With the shadow intern position open and her being the perfect candidate, Cade plans on finding out why she avoids Fin and make sure she isn't a spy from the competition.

Hiding her features that look similar to Fin's, Jessie is trying not to find Cade anymore attractive than she already found him, but as he begins spending more time with her she is finding that hard to do. As their relationship takes that next step she finds he's finding his way to her heart. Yet she can't be honest with him about who she truly is until she finds some type of proof that Fin would want to meet her.

Not being able to avoid it, Jessie is made Fin's shadow. Now, she's working with her mother and she finds herself liking who Fin is.

Jessie's father plays an important role in her life. After the death of his wife, he's supportive of Jessie finding and meeting her birth mother. When she calls him, he's behind her 100% and tells her to use the shadow position to find her answers regarding Fin.

Unfortunately, Cade hears the end of her conversation and now truly believe she's working for the competition. Now he's determined to play dirty and Jessie finds herself receiving the cold shoulder. Going to his place, she demands to know why the change after he said he wasn't ashamed of them.

Cade reveals what he heard and although Jessie assures him he misunderstood, she won't tell him the truth, asking him to trust her, but Cade's not sure he can do that.

While working, Jessie gets the opportunity to look through Fin's files and just as she finds the proof she needs, Cade catches her, not only firing her, but breaking off everything they had.

With her proof, she finds Fin who is with Cade in her office. Refusing to make Cade leaves, Jessie reveals her identity and Cade watches as mother and daughter reunite. But what of her and Cade's relationship now?

After much catching up, Fin along with other accepting family members throw Jessie and welcome party. With a surprise, Fin's parents show up and accept the grandchild they forced their daughter to give up.

As for Cade, well he's doesn't give up and fights for Jessie to forgive him. Surprising her with a horse drawn carriage proposal.

The best one yet. Brought tears to-my eyes. Patrick does have a-heart after all. I wish they would have brought Jessie’s adoptive Dad into the story-more. I would like to see Fin find love.

The Intern Affair
4/5 stars

I didn't expect to enjoy this cheesy little book nearly as much as I did.

I found this one in the free bin at 2nd and Charles and thought a raunchy romance novel would be appropriate for Valentines.

The Plot:
Was nicely woven between the adoptive storyline and the love story and how the trust was a big part of this book. Since it is so short it's hard to say much without giving away everything important.

Characters:

Jessie-
Was surprisingly like able. In these kinds of books sometimes I don't care too much for the lead women, but she was fun, down to earth and never annoyed me. Although her lack of communication did frustrate me a lot.

Cade-
Was a dick at times but other than that I loved him, he was tender hearted and sexy and the perfect cliche of a guy for this type of novel.

Fin-
Was such a sweetheart and managed not to be a bitch at all, and it really could've gone either way with her kind of character.

Jessie's Father-
I loved him. I love seeing good fathers in media.

Overall:
I highly enjoyed the entirety of this book except for the cheesy ass last page. It was a little too much too early. But the amount of fun I had with this one makes me want to read others in this series.

I freaking love this book. I will be honest and say this is the first book I have read in the series since I didn't think they were going to be interesting. But I was wrong this one was really good and I liked it a lot. I loved our hero Cade. He was such a charmer and so sweet. I really liked Jessie too she was such a sweetheart. I hated when Cade and Jessie kinda broke up because he thought she was a spy and was lying to him. I felt so bad for Jessie I mean she loves this man and he makes love to her and all that but doesn't trust her. But then again Jessie did give him moments where anyone in his postion would doubte her but he should have trusted her because when you love someone then you should trust them no matter what lies in front of you because not everything is like the way its presented to us. Overall, I loved this book and the only reason I didn't give it a five star is because I wanted more on the fututre. Like is Jessie still going to work for the magazine and I wanted her to meet Cade's family and all that stuff. But I am happy to know that there's two more books in this series so hopefully, we would know about them in those books.

I re-read this as part of my goal to review my old reads. I think the relationship between Cade and Jessie was well written, the main issue being about trust. The characters don't have a lot of depth, but I only expect so much from Harlequin novels. Jessie has a secret, which I think was pretty easy to guess. I did like that once the secret is out, the book's pretty calm. I do wish the book had included the parents meeting after it was brought up. I think it would have been a cute scene to read.

I loved the story. It was a good quick read. I have really enjoyed the Elliot series can't wait to finish them up. In this book I liked both the Heroine and the Hero. They were strong yet loving kind people. The Hero was loyal to the people in his life like his boss. I would have like to see The heroine and her new mother go to Colorado to the ranch. Also what was going to happen to Oscar the horse? I could not see the HEA until they resolved a few things like country girl-city boy. Did the Hero ever go to ranch with them? I felt some things were left unresolved.

Cade McMann was Jessie Clayton's boss. As such, he had to tell her that she had to shadow Finola Elliot for a month; she didn't take it well. The more Jessie tried to stay out of Finola's way, the more intrigued Cade became. Cade began to follow her around, get close to her. Little did he know the real reason Jessie was working at Charisma Magazine. When the reason came to the surface, no one was more surprised than Cade!

Cade *-*

The plot bothered me a little. He seemed like a creepy boss taking advantage of the infatuation of a young, innocent intern. He didn't seem to fight the ethics of what he was doing very hard, and I kept thinking this smacked of sexual harrassment.

Fast-moving romance novel with a twist - he's not her boss and she might be an intern, but she's got a secret. Quick, fun read.

Asunto Privado (SM Los Elliot #9)

[SPOILER]
