What would you sacrifice for the chance to touch the person you love?
In a world where every touch is monitored and love is assigned, Alex Cook and Jordan Phillips are forced to live by society’s strictest you can only touch the one you’re destined to be with—and only if they’re of the opposite sex. But when Alex and Jordan’s hands accidentally brush, their forbidden bond ignites a series of events that shatter their carefully curated lives. Branded as fugitives, they must flee from a ruthless government determined to separate them and silence their rebellion. Guided by whispers of a secret resistance, they set out on a dangerous journey to find a place where love is free, and identity isn’t a crime.
As they traverse a perilous path of betrayal, hope, and courage, Alex and Jordan discover that the fight for their love isn’t just about them—it’s a battle for everyone oppressed by a system built on lies.
Honestly I dnf’d at 40%. Today is not a good day for me so idk if it’s just my mood or what but basically you aren’t allowed to touch because government. Two boys touch on accident which turns them immediately into criminals and like… humans are klutzy so how does that not happen more. They’re secret friends who have been questioning the why of it all before the accidental touch and decide to go on the run since staying means being captured by the government together to find the rebellion to… well… rebel.
The writing style was basically the scene from one of the boys perspectives and then the next boy will follow which works in some books but the problem with this one is… they think the same. They’re both scared and pretending they aren’t for the other boy. They wonder about what it would be to turn back and decide internally over and over and over that that isn’t an option which to me at some point “I had decided there was no turning back” every chapter from both perspectives as the last line of the chapter was just annoying me. If I get super bored I might try again another day but I doubt it.
It delivers on the premise it sets so if this writing style is what you’re into, I’m sure you’ll like it. You never know until you try. I tried and I know.
I’ll never give a super bad rating for a dnf (except for one but it’s so popular that it won’t hurt the rating). This author has a TON of books and a lot of them have interesting sounding premises but I searched on kindle for a gay dystopian standalone and this is actually that just not my style I guess.
Edit: I just read all the reviews on here for all of this author and I changed my mind. There are like dozens and dozens of books and most are unrated but they all say the exact same thing. Same scenes from two different characters with no information added and conflicting insight that makes things confusing. I’ve never ever thought this before and I kind of feel awful but the sheer number of works in such a short amount of time makes me wonder if these are AI books. I probably won’t continue with this author if they even exist. So for that I don’t feel quite as bad giving an honest rating. This is just not my author.
