A Fractured World… The balance of power is shifting. Forces once bound by silence now stir, and the world Valeria fought to understand is unraveling. What once lurked in the Deep Wood no longer stays hidden, and as old boundaries break, she is thrust into a conflict far greater than herself. But with each step forward, she finds that power is never without consequence - and some truths refuse to stay buried.
A Love Reforged in Darkness… He was lost to her. Torn from her grasp by fate’s cruel hand, he was nothing more than a ghost in Valeria’s shattered heart. Until the moment he stands before her again - changed, yet unmistakably him. Their reunion is anything but simple. Shadows cling to him, secrets buried beneath his skin, and the man she loved is both familiar and unknown. Bound by a love neither can forsake and a destiny neither can outrun, they must navigate a world that does not forgive second chances.
A Reckoning Approaches… As war looms on the horizon, Valeria’s growing power threatens to consume her. The choices before her are few, and each one carves away at something vital - her control, her past, or what remains of her humanity. But the deeper she descends, the more she realizes that some fates cannot be fought. Some paths must be walked to their bitter end, even if it means losing him all over again.
With its evocative blend of romance, peril, and slow-burning transformation, Into the Deep The Deathless King delivers a breathtaking conclusion to a saga of love and power. In this final destinies are forged, debts are paid, and the shadows of the past demand their due. A must-read for fans of slow-burn romantasy, where devotion is both a weapon and a weakness, and some hearts refuse to break - even in death.
“I dreamed of a fairytale as a young girl. This didn’t feel like a fairytale at all.”
For a debut series this is remarkable. That ending had me tearing up for Marat...and I am not a Marat girlie! There were some grammatical errors, and pacing issues, but nothing that I felt took away from how stunning a world, and story, Polina created. I can confidently state this is fairytale/fantasy with a subplot of romance. The world, the kingdoms and creatures, and the conflict Polina created was incredible and captivating. My only angst is that I think the ending was slightly rushed/anti climatic given the build up it had (four books worth!). I was really hoping for a stronger showdown between Marat, Val and Koeschi. Regardless, the lore and plot more than made up for it,
“There is but one that I could not weave. Could not bind. He came after. After all of them. He challenged me in my right and declared himself king. And he is the hungriest of all.”
I am a romantasy girlie. And a love triangle thrown in...you have me hooked. I had high expectations but because I felt there was a gap in character building/development, the romances fell flat for me. I picked the wrong guy in the love triangle (this is a me problem). We were told conflict was resolved but the how/why was missing. Respect and trust were suddenly given to certain characters but we missed the building of that. I could see what Polina was trying to achieve but it just wasn't quite there for me.
“I do not need sight to see you, Marat...I have never needed sight to see you.”
Nonetheless I was in the trenches of this world, trying to figure out the magical system, how it all tied together, and how it would all play out. I really did enjoy Val, and despite what I said earlier, she was the sole character I actually saw growth from. Her journey was incredible and seeing it all come full circle and loose ends tie up...it was both heart wrenching and heartbreaking. I would absolutely recommend this series and recommend that you be patient with it. It takes time to build an incredible world and story. But it was unique and fun and infuriating and alluring and sad and mystical all at the same time.
“You must save men from the monsters that they are. And I must save them from the monsters that are not.”
What a sleeper series!! I had few, if any, expectations going into this series and wow… really, really enjoyed it! I wish I were more articulate so I could write a review to do this series justice, but here we are. The folklore is so cool. Character development is so good. The relationships with so little spice *chefs kiss*
Still several typos and formatting errors. The meat and potatoes of this book though? amazing. The ending was pure perfection in such a heart wrenching way.
