Brady was born in a stronghold at the base of the Rocky Mountains. He currently resides there with his wife, their two daughters, and a few domesticated house lions of a rare breed. He set out with the goal to write fantasy that anybody could read, with characters who face real life struggles. Everyone deserves to feel like there is hope.
Dragonsworn is a thrilling conclusion to the duology—fast-paced, action-packed, and full of emotional payoffs that hit just right.
The character arcs are what really shine here. Ven’s growth was powerful to witness, as he wrestles with pain and loss and comes out stronger. Mia’s full redemption arc felt incredibly satisfying, and Zein’s complicated journey added extra layers that kept me hooked. I loved how much deeper we got to explore Siwen—his culture, his sheer presence, and just how much of a force he is on the page. The new characters were also fantastic additions, expanding the world without ever stealing the spotlight from the main cast.
The pacing kept me flying through chapters—I actually devoured the entire second half in one sitting. If I’m being picky, the ending felt a touch rushed and a few chapters in the middle dragged a bit, but those were small speedbumps in an otherwise phenomenal finale.
As a duology closer, Dragonsworn sticks the landing: delivering twists, high-stakes battles, and emotional resolutions that make the journey more than worth it. And who knows… it might not be the full end though!
Oh my lordie! Oh my hat! Oh my heart! Oh my stars and moon and just about everything OMG, this was a magnificent read!!!! This book started off just as thrilling as the previous one but shoot, I was not expecting to be stunned in the first chapter! And I was, my jaw gaping, completely unhinged! The twists were so unexpected, I was in spasms...No words seem sufficient to capture the splendor of this book but I'll give it a go...
It is something special when an author manages to make an ordinary boy, living on Earth, travelling widely with his parents to all corners of the globe, into something extraordinary. Which Brady does, so effectively, effortlessly, electrifyingly. A story that spans across different realms, a story of heinous experimentations, a story with dragons, a story of survival. This book and series is all of that and then some. This book and series twisted my emotions so tightly and then unravelled me, strand by strand. Brady took no prisoners, he DEFINITELY didn't hold back the punches! I'm black and blue...I wasn't even 35% in and already I thought my guts had liquified, first Mia, then Ven, I'm not lying when I say my eyes were as wide as saucers, I couldn't believe where the author veered off to, it was as though he were playing hide and seek with my very essence!
The complexity of the characters is so tantalising, even the introduction of new characters add more depth and coolness, like Morgan and Valerie. The plot thoroughly convoluted, it urges me to want to peel away layer by layer, following the authors immaculate writing prowess and clues. But.... Mr Hunsaker doesn't allow me to catch my breath, the curve balls he throws my way, sting! Unexpected, I cannot avoid them, I truly, as I mentioned up front, feel like I've gone through a round with Mike Tyson! By the time I got to 50% in, my blood had frozen and thawed so many times, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to feel anything other than awe at Mr Brady Hunsaker. I was devastated by the events at the end of the previous book, then elated at the unusual...ummm... outcome and this book started with everything "normal" Ven is back on Earth furthering his studies, Mia is in Orund, hiding from everyone. All of this changes in a heartbeat, Ven, once more confronted by Dayelle, hears horrific news, a revelation to blow his mind. Mia soon discovers there's no where to hide and then things take a turn, so flipping unexpected, to both characters and myself, I'm not sure who was more astounded! I'm also never sure who I trust and who I don't, besides Ven and Mia, I reserve the right to vacillate... Zein? Yeah, he is so flawed one can see it almost physically. He has done heinous deeds, all in the name of science, deeds so repulsive there can be no redemption. But, and here the author had me agog once more, what Zein actually is, what he did to Ven, unseated me!
It was Mia my heart embraced, my heart bled for, all she'd been through at the "facility", then her supposed death, then her illusive freedom, only to fall into the clutches of Dayelle and Rowan and become exactly who she feared she'd be, an assassin, forced to facilitate and perform atrocities. Her relationship with Ven, was complex yet transparent, another incredible feat of this author, he captured the waring emotions perfectly. But heck, I WASN'T prepared for THAT! I sobbed, I really sobbed!
Dragons, thought extinct through the intense culling by humans, seek revenge. That can't end well and sure as heck doesn't! My word! This isn't just revenge, this is retribution on an unprecedented scale...These few remaining dragons are worse than deadly, worse than dangerous, they manipulate forces and people, inciting war and mayhem. And that's not all they do, what else they're capable of is mindboggling! But before you think this is all doom, gloom and despair, rest assured, this author taps into the thread of hope and personal growth which permeates through the book. Ven captured it succinctly "The burdens placed on out backs don't ever go away. They might weigh on us forever, and it's on us to grow and build ourselves so that we have the strength necessary to carry them". Ven himself has come a long way, his personal growth, his understanding, his compassion are a thing of beauty to behold, it was so uplifting.
After I nearly suffered an aneurysm during THE battle, Hunsaker brought it to a painful wonderous conclusion. The bombshells he dropped, OMG, Mia????Tem???? Zein??? Like no, that smacked me soundly across my face! The ups, the downs, the horror, the elation, the action, took me on an unprecedented journey, I relished, one I clung to, one I didn't want to let go of. THIS is storytelling at it's absolute best!!!
Unlike the first book, there are dragons in this book and woe to anyone who would consider riding them: they are out for vengeance!
Dragonsbane, first in the series, focuses on a research facility on a foreign world that secretly is doing illegal experiments… on human children using the blood of dragons that once ruled the world. Things go awry, with some assistance from a visiting human who is trying to solve the mystery of his parents’ deaths. That book is a good sci-fi read with a large mystery and a hint of fantasy.
In this book, perhaps the final in the series, but certainly a conclusion in this installment, the consequences of this experiment, and of human uses of the ever-powerful dragons blood which fuels most of the world’s technology, are harsh, violent, and far-reaching. This book was an *intense* read. Many other reviewers are using a lot of exclamation marks and they are not wrong. There are some genuinely horrific concepts here and the author does not hold back. (Still, it is appropriate for older YA readers.) While I experienced a full variety of emotions reading, the most prominent was dread. What the FMC, Mia, suffered through will stay with me for a long, long time.
This is a good duology for people who enjoy a mix of sci-fi and fantasy, who like to explore hypotheticals, and follow the stories of two characters who are stretched to their absolute limits. It touches on the nature of love, a variety of ethical issues, justice, loyalty, and off-world politics too.
Brady Hunsaker what have you done to me, That ending………….
So this is book two of a YA duology, and I would say this book is perfect for a YA fan looking to move towards more epic fantasy
The pacing is amazing, there is no let up in the action, but it never seems rushed or too frantic, twists and turns galore, this books seems to fly by
The characters are wonderful, we start with the main two characters from the first book Ven and Mia, and as we progress side characters from the first book return, in a lot of cases in more substantial roles, and we are introduced to new characters as well, all seem well thought out and add to the story in their own ways
Ven’s journey is probably the most prominent as he deals with ‘rejection’ and pain and the growth that brings This is not to belittle Mia’s growth and her journey towards being a confident independent young woman, which was very well written and executed Siwen Huan returns but as a much more major character in this book, his is not so much a journey of growth but one of realisation Then we get Zein Huan a man of so many shades of grey, unlikeable but heroic
I could go on but all I really want to say is to read the book, it is a wonderful piece of writing, one you will thoroughly enjoy, just be ready for that ending
Where Dragonsbane (book 1) has a mostly clinical and scientific feel, Dragonsworn is gritty and packed with high-intensity adventure. The consequences of experimenting with dragon blood are now out in the world, wreaking absolute havoc. Ven and his allies are pushed to their absolute limits and all hope seems lost.
This book has dragons, but certainly not the kind you want to try riding! There are parts of this book that get absolutely wild and moments that are soul crushing. There was definitely a moment or two where I got teary eyed. There were also a few things I did not see coming! The story explores justice, loyalty, loss, ethical issues, and what it means to love.
While I would not be opposed to reading more in this world to see how things fare in the future (and certain things *are* left open ended), I was happy (though happy is maybe the wrong word for all the emotions I was feeling) with how this YA duology concludes.
Content: 💕: it's there in the background, but not "romantasy" style ⚠️: human experimentation and control, past loss of loved ones, battle violence, gore
What a fun book! This duology was super compelling, and it’s definitely one that will stick with me for awhile.
You won’t find spoilers here, but I will say that this book builds on the first in some cool ways. Ven has stopped the dragonsblood medical research, but it’s too late. The dragons have returned, and they want vengeance.
There’s so much emotion in this story, and it makes the characters feel so real. I could have used more distinction between the characters voices on the page, but their personalities and choices were all distinct enough that it didn’t bother me too much
You’ll enjoy this book if you like fantasy with modern elements. It’s a portal fantasy, so it merges fantasy and earthly elements (in some really cool ways). Ven’s background as a doctor from earth allows him to interact with the world of Orund in some really interesting ways.
Give this book a try! It will break your heart in all the best ways
After the way the first book ended 👀 … this one did not hold back!! From the very first chapter, I gasped out loud and knew we were definitely starting strong.
The pacing? perfect! 🤌🏻 (fast, engaging and no filler in sight) ohhh, and the twists?! Absolutely amazing 🥹 .. Every time I thought I had a grasp on things, another surprise hit me!
Now, the characters.. Mia and Ven’s development was incredible to witness. Their growth, their struggles, and the way their love was so innocent made my heart ache🤍… But Omg… the end, My heart is throbbing, I’m trying to recover!
So YES!, Dragonsworn really stepped things up! It was sharp, thrilling, and full of intriguing turns. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time!! 🐉
Dragons, battles, friendships, portals and intrigue fill this fast paced sequel that ties up many of the character stories from book 1 neatly.
It was an enjoyable read, easy to follow and the characters felt much more fleshed out in this book compared to the first book. While book one felt very clinical, this sequel brought more of a gritty fantasy feeling.
Some elements felt a little predictable or obvious, but overall it was a fun read…even if the ending may leave others slightly sad too! Book 2 definitely stepped things up from book 1 though; with exploration of the world they’re in and the many kingdoms in it, to the nefarious villains and the strength and struggles of the heroes.
My thanks to the author for allowing me to be part of his ARC team.
This was a wonderful follow up and I loved visiting this world again! With this book we get an expansion of characters and character growth along with more world building and dragons who have been here all along. We get advanced fight scenes that give you a play by play of the action. If you enjoyed the last book, you'll love this one! Hunsaker delivers an action packed fantasy with huge stakes that may just leave Orund in shambles. Will they learn from history or make the same mistakes? Will our FMC find peace? Will our MMC be able to stand up to his own standards of character? Highly enjoyable. Highly recommend.
WOW! INCREDILE! Book two of the Impervious series by Brady Hunsaker and I was captivated within the first few pages to the very last word! About a brilliant story across different realms, horrible experimentations, dragons and survival. A story with enough twists and turns to keep me on the edge of my chair. The MC's are complex, driven and extremely well written. And Brady's world building is brilliant, beautiful and immersive holding readers completely captivated. I absolutely highly recommend reading this book and series!
What.a.conclusion! Okay, so we all remember how the last one ended, right? Well, buckle up because we are in for it! It starts the moment Ven decides to go back. Once we cross, it doesn’t stop. The dragons are NOT happy, and they are out for blood.
Lines will be drawn and friendships broken all in the name of goodness and freedom for man kind. Who will win? I won’t tell- just get to reading!!!
I enjoyed the conclusion to this story. It was not quite what I was expecting, but I'm glad that things were wrapped up, even if it was sad about Mia. I wish that her and Ven could have had a happy ending, but thats not how life always works out. I look forward to seeing what the author puts out next!

****Spoilers***** Ven has decided to head to college to try and finish becoming a doctor. He ends up running into Dayelle, in all places, running a lecture. She tells him that she thinks Mia is still alive and may need his help. Ven then must save Mia, from an unknown danger back in Oorund.
Find out what else happens in Oorund.

ARC review. 4.5 Stars. Wow what a ride! With book 2 of the duology Brady Hunsaker delivered an epic conclusion. There were many twists and turns and surprising moments that I did not see coming. I won’t give any spoilers but the dragons are here and they are pissed! After the last page we are defiantly left wanting more with either a sequel series or prequel series.
Oh my gosh! The cover is perfect. The tiniest accent color of the red and the dragon are great. It's crazy that between the two book it's less than 1000 pages for this epic story. A fabulous complete story that is this epic!
Bahaha yet again Mr.. hunsaker reels me in! Once I started reading I could not stop! I loved how he added some elements of therapy, and grief into the story and ways to work on yourself and be confident. Amazing read sir. I can't wait for more books!!
The Impervious series is a great YA read. The concept is intriguing and the story is engaging. This story felt a lot more fleshed out than the first installment of this story. We got to get to know the characters better even with the fast paced nature of the story. I also liked getting immersed in the world on a deeper level and I can honestly say I liked book two more than book 1. I liked how the topic of autonomy and choice was addressed in this, especially along the lines of that choice being taken away completely by an outside force. It highlighted courage to do what is right as well as the very real desire to just give in. This book had me anxious to see what would happen next.
