I haven't read a good murder mystery (with an interesting paranormal twist) in ages and as this was a freebie at Amazon I thought "what the heck, I'll give it a go". I'm glad I did, it was an enjoyable read that helped while away a pleasant few hours. I did learn more about Sawmills and the running of a drug testing lab than I would have thought possible in a quickie read but that was half the fun.
Grave Doubts... A story of friendship, and family. When Lee's best friend dies of an apparent suicide, she steadfastly doesn't believe it to be true. Since the police won't listen to her she makes the decision to investigate and find the truth for herself. Along the way she uncovers more than she could have ever imagined. This was a fun whodunit and I didn't guess at the outcome.
I was pleasantly surprised by the heroine who is about my age and who also has grown children. Who says that 50-year-old plus ladies can't be detectives? One drawback though is that the killer was a little too predictable.
If you think you have a terrible life, think again. Lee and her daughter Amy find Lee's best friend, Diane dead of an apparent suicide just hours after she and Diane had a fight. Later when Lee starts to think about things that were found at the scene of Diane's death, she's not so sure it was a suicide. When Lee goes to her police officer friend, he doesn't believe her, in fact no one believes her, until she and Diane's sister, Carey, talk. When Carey gives Lee a black onyx bird statue that was one of Diane's favorite trinkets, things really get strange. Just when you think they murderer has been caught, there is another turn in the plot. Ms Bohart left me breathless and with my heart beating in my throat at times. It's a great mystery that will keep you guessing and once you think you have it figured out, well, guess again.
Started strong. Another story of a murder investigation with no science and completely off base. Since the investigator in this case isn't in law enforcement you have to give her a break. Had a couple good plot twists and a little paranormal which seemed to come and go.
Original story line and character development. Something new and different. Four star for a couple of typos and a couple unfinished threads. Enjoyed the story and will read more of this authors books.
