The last thing he wants is to hunt a dangerous fugitive in the Alaskan wilderness, especially with a tough, stubborn US marshal.
Parker Conroy moved to Alaska to be alone. His military career in Ghost Ops ended with an explosion and three torturous weeks of captivity. It’s left him scarred, wanting to avoid people, and hating being touched.
When US Marshal Jenna Sheriden knocks on his door, he has no time for the attractive marshal. But she isn’t taking no for an answer.
A dangerous fugitive is on the loose, and he happens to be a rogue Ghost Ops soldier.
Jenna Sheriden lives and breathes being a marshal. Her past has left her with something to prove. She has zero interest in love, relationships, or anything that slows her down.
She needs help hunting a deadly murderer. She needs Parker Conroy.
The gruff, lean loner radiates a dark intensity she can’t ignore, but he has the skills to help her track down her quarry. Thrust together, they’re sharing the same bed, the same tent, and working together every hour of the day.
As they draw closer to catching the killer, Jenna sees under Park’s scarred exterior to the man beneath. A man who tempts her in ways no one ever has before. A man who will do anything to keep her safe.
If they survive this hunt, then Jenna knows she’ll have the biggest challenge of all—convincing her scarred hero to take a chance on love.

So, Jenna was all set to bring a fugitive back to the US, but while in transport, the guy managed to escape. He wasn't just any criminal; he was a dangerous one and a former ghost operative.
After this, she then reached out to Parker, a retired ghost op who’s now living in Alaska.
At first, he wasn't interested in helping, but then he learned about the things this guy had done. He switched his mind up, and for some reason, the thought of Jenna chasing after a dangerous criminal just doesn't sit right with him.
They worked together and did their best to catch the man. And of course, with the forced proximity and apparently mutual attraction, things went from 0 to 60 in a span of a few days. Like I said, insta-something.
Ngl, I found it a bit tough to really get into the romance. Parker was taken as a POW a few years back, and he endured three weeks of torture, which left him with a lot of scars as a reminder of that experience. Ever since that happened, he just can't stand being touched. That's why he decided to move to Alaska and keep to himself.
Jenna, on the other hand, really struggles with trusting men. Her late father, who was so loving to her, turned out to be a serial unaliver, and that contradiction in the man she looked up to messed with her faith in men. And the last guy she dated ended up cheating on her, which just made her trust issues even worse. That's why she's not looking to date or get involved with anyone.
Yet, after a day of finally meeting each other. Parker figured he could handle Jenna's touch, and Jenna chose to share her life story with him. I mean, just one day? Like, I need it to make sense. It was so unbelievable.
Well, I suppose I’ll just have to accept how their relationship moved along, but honestly, it was just unconvincing.
Anyway, some action happens, and for some reason, these guys who are supposed to be good at ghost operations keep getting outsmarted by the criminal. I get that the bad guy was a ghost op once, too, but these good men are meant to be more capable and intelligent than he is. So I don't understand how he managed to elude them every time.
In any case, I don't want to think too much about this anymore.
I wasn't really satisfied with the ending (they got engaged) and the bonus epilogue (married). I don't understand why the author added that cute moment with Parker talking to a little girl if she's not planning to turn it into something real for the MCs and have him become a girl dad. Ugh, I want to see him have his loving moments with his own little girl, but whatever.
Overall, I thought the story was okay. It was neither bad nor amazing. It moved at a rapid pace, and it frustrated me that it took so long to catch the villain. Well, at least he got caught, so that's something positive.
Book info: - Romantic suspense - Forced proximity - Scarred H - Mention of torture, unaliving, SA - Violence - Insta-something - No cheating, OM/OW, separation - No V (no info) - HFN (engaged) - Bonus epilogue (2 yrs later, 1 yr married)

The Hero She Loves is the fifth and sadly the final installment in Anna Hackett's Unbroken Heroes series, which blends romantic suspense and adventure.
This series features alpha males who are deeply loyal and committed to helping those in need while working to defeat villains. Although these men are loving and respectful toward the women they fall for, they often struggle with feelings of unworthiness when it comes to love. Each man is surprised to discover his soulmate, a revelation that brings both unexpected joy and new challenges.
When one of their own faces a serious threat, the entire group comes together, showcasing their unbreakable bond as they confront and dismantle the menacing forces against them. The narrative is packed with exhilarating action sequences, sizzling chemistry between characters, and intense tension, all set within a captivating plot filled with intrigue, drama, and peril.
I find myself completely engrossed in the experience of rereading this series, savoring each emotional twist and turn.
This was a perfect blend of pulse-pounding suspense and heartfelt romance. Set against the rugged Alaskan wilderness, the story follows a US Marshal as she hunts for a deadly fugitive.
The action is relentless, with twists and turns that kept me hooked from the first page. Hackett’s vivid descriptions make the wilderness feel as dangerous as the fugitive they’re chasing, adding to the tension.
Jenna’s determination and Parker’s brooding intensity create an electric chemistry that grows naturally as they face danger and confront their emotional wounds. The balance between thrilling action and emotional depth is masterfully done, making their romance feel authentic and deeply moving.
For fans of romantic suspense, this book is a must-read—a gripping adventure paired with a beautiful story of healing and love.
A nice romantic suspense with a killer on the loose and a h and H who match each other’s vibes perfectly. Not much to say on this one other than I enjoyed it. The h does have magic touch syndrome where the H suddenly doesn’t mind being touched despite extreme trauma from experiences as a POW. I also felt like there was a bit too much going on and not enough time spent on the romance. There was some kind of tragedy/near miss almost every chapter so the pacing felt off for that reason. Otherwise a good read.
Safety: No virgins. No manwhore. H celibate since being a POW/can’t stand being touched until the h. No prior history for h other than she went on a few dates with coworker (om) who cheated on her; she never slept with him. No ow or om drama; h’s ex is somewhat present but doesn’t cause any issue.
Series: Unbroken Heroes #5 Rating: 4 stars - It was really good
Parker Conroy moved to Alaska to be alone after his military career with Ghost Ops ended with three weeks in captivity. His plans change though when US Marshal Jenna Sheiden knocks on his door asking for his help in hunting a dangerous fugitive who was also a Ghost Ops soldier. As they get closer to catching the killer, Parker finds himself falling for the tough Marshal, even though they agreed this was just going to be a fling.
This was an action packed ending for this series. Parker is a tortured and scarred man who is determined to hide away in Alaska. He initially refuses to help but knows that only another Ghost Ops soldier will be able to stop their killer. As Parker works with Jenna though, he realizes how strong, capable, and beautiful she is and starts falling quickly. I really liked Parker, especially since he respected Jenna’s career and abilities to do her job. He never steps on her toes during the hunt or tries to prevent her from doing something because she is a woman and it is dangerous. He just supported her and helped her take down a bad guy.
US Marshal Jenna Sheriden was a badass. She reminded me a lot of Brynn, Vander’s wife, (The Powerbroker) because of how capable and dedicated to her job she was. Jenna is instantly attracted to Parker but tries to keep her distance at first, but that quickly fails when she realizes how good of a man Parker is and how he doesn’t see it. Like I said, I really loved Jenna and how badass she was. She chased the killer around Alaska, dealt with injuries, kidnapping, and yet never backed down.
The hunt for the killer in this was great. It was action packed, dangerous, and took us all over Alaska, which makes sense because it was a former Ghost Ops soldier. I enjoyed the adventurer and how unpredictable it was. Also it was great to see the other Unbroken Heroes guys and Vander again.
Overall, this was a fantastic and action packed ending for this series. I really enjoyed Jenna and Parker's story. I am looking forward to the next series by Hackett!
TW: PTSD; kidnapping, rape, and death (killers MO); murder and death of coworkers/friends during military service; capture and torture during service discussed; death of parents in a car accident mentioned;

I guess I am the odd person out here. I disliked the book. I have read all of the series. The first 2 books were good, the next two were so so. This one, I just could not get into it.
Very early in the book, Owen referred to Parker as a jarhead. Parker did not correct him. Parker was Army. A jarhead is a Marine. There is a competition between the military branches. I would have expected an immediate correction, but none came.
Due to his time in captivity, Parker did not like to be touched (PTSD). Yet, it took only a day for Jenna to touch him anytime she liked. He also accepted touching from others. I am not an expert, but I don't think PTSD is cured in a day. Frankly, I am not sure that it is ever cured. People do get better, but not overnight.
Jenna distrusted men. But, it took only a day being around Parker to change her mind. Trust is built if someone is leery. Again, this is something that does not happen overnight. Both cases are just unbelievable.
If Olson is so dangerous, then why is it just Jenna and Parker going after him? It seems like there should be more help with them. But of course if there are others, then you would not have the instant romance. The romance is just over the top. There are numerous pages devoted to their time in bed. Sorry, I just don't like this.
Parker acts superhuman. He gets hurt, but he is still able to come back and fight. He supposedly lost a lot of blood, but a hospital is not needed. This is another unbelievable happening.
Why did Vic even show up at the end? I thought he was in Virginia. Yet, he arrives within a very short time of the take down. He did not have time to fly in from Virginia. If he got there so fast, then he was already in Alaska and nearby. This was never explained. His disclosure about wanting Jenna back was unnecessary. In fact, his appearance was unnecessary.
I did not care for the episode in the restaurant at the end. The author had already established the fact that Parker and Jenna were superhuman. There was no need for more evidence.
I did not like the book. I found it boring and unbelievable.
Jenna, the badass FL who's muscles, beauty and catching criminals meets Park (Short for Parker) ex Ghost Op, to ask his help, to solve a crime and catch Olson, a ser!al ki11er & r@pist.
Two traumatised grumpy characters with guilt of different kinds, catch feelings for each other after swearing not to. On the journey to catching the criminal, they don't realize they've fallen deeply in love too.
The action in this book was thrilling, like a little movie in my head. Both Jenna and Park chase Olson down, throw punches, take h!ts and arrest people. The villian is strong and ruthless as hell. I held my breath the whole time.
The book is well balanced with comedy, action and romance. I felt like the smut was a bit much, and their InstaLust was too insta. But their emotional intimacy was unmatched, they're both so soft and sweet. AND they're funny and silly. I love looove when the traumatised tough character has their silly moments, and when they can be vulnerable and soft.
Jenna is a muscular marshall with a strong sense of justice, but she's also soft, wears makeup and a good leader to Owen, her recruit, I love when a character is dimensional. She's not a typical "I hate makeup I hate dresses" female character. Parker is a retired ex Ghost Op who just wanted a break after the stress he went through, but eventually he becomes a mush of love and sweetness for Jenna. He's protective, sooo protective 🤭 but he also always reminds their co workers that she's strong enough to protect BOTH him and her. Because she's just powerful like that. He's always appreciating her intelligence and strength and it's just so perfect. 😩
There were some parts in the story where Jenna, like every other woman goes through her co workers not believing her or taking her seriously. Her ex Vic was insufferable, Lord like shut up 💀 He thinks he's all that smh. Two people d1ed because of him and he took little to no responsibility 🤡 I like these realistic parts of the story too.
If you like action, strong characters, forced proximity you'd love this book. I sure did. 😌
This was a perfect conclusion to the Unbroken Heroes series. I loved everything about Parker and Jenna!
Parker escaped to Alaska to get away from everyone and everything. The last thing he needed was a beautiful U.S. Marshal showing up needing his help with capturing a dangerous fugitive. Jenna did not know where else to turn and was told Park was the best man for the job. What they don’t count on is developing real feelings for each other. This was the last thing either of them needed right now.
For a good reason, Parker was pretty closed off when he met Jenna. He’s seen the worst in humanity during his time with Ghost Ops. Jenna had someone close to her betray her. Together, they helped each other heal. I really loved how supportive he was with Jenna’s job. He loved seeing her in action taking down the bad guys. They made a great team! I’m really sad this series is over but I cannot wait to see what’s next!
These two! Parker met his match. She’s PERFECT for him. And so badass. Like lady crush on our Jenna.
These two team up across the vast Alaska wilderness and towns and ocean! To chase down one vicious serial killer and rapist. He is BAD NEWS. And they are on his trail.
Whilst falling in love. Might be my favorite of the unbroken hero’s. But each were excellent in their own way. Great series finisher.
Probably my favourite of the series. The suspense element was really well written and I was on the edge of my seat. It complimented the romance and the characters perfectly. Excellent book!
Absolutely devoured this one!! I’ve been loving this whole series, and this one was no exception! I was so intrigued by Parker after we met him in the previous book, and absolutely loved him. He’s got some demons in his past, but with Jenna? Those demons don’t bother him quite as much. Parker & Jenna make such a good team, and I loved Jenna’s determination. This one’s got allll the action and suspense, and plenty of heat between these two. It was a quick read that had me on the edge of my seat, and I couldn’t put it down! So good!

Parker's got scars both physical and emotional/mental. It's why he moved to the wilds of Alaska to get away from people. Then a fierce, badass US Marshal fights her way into his life, and nothing's the same again. Suddenly he's feeling. And he wants her to touch him, which is something he hasn't wanted since he was held captive by the Taliban. Now all he has to do is find the fugitive they're hunting, and above all, protect this amazing woman, not fall in love though...
Being in such close proximity to Parker is splitting Jenna's focus. She wants to keep this whatever it is, casual, but finding that hard to do the more she gets to know the beautiful man he keeps so hidden beneath his pain. If they can just catch her fugitive, then life will go on after.
I think Parker and Jenna are my favorite couple so far in this excellent series. They fell in love against their will, chasing after a horrible man, and it was the most entertaining story yet. Because their stories were similar enough, they could relate, they could help each other through the pain and the guilt they felt when their respective teams got taken out. Vander and crew made cameos, and I fell in love with them and this series even more.

I was all in on The Hero She Loves from the very first page for two reasons. One, it’s an Alaska story and I always love stories set in “the 907” (Alaska’s Area Code – still) because I used to live in Anchorage. I still tell Alaska stories, so I enjoy it when someone else tells one to me.
Especially when it’s an author I love.
Second, I always love a romance of equals, especially when the female protagonist is every bit as proactive as her male partner. I want heroes who go out and get it done, not wait for someone to do it for them – especially when it comes to their own safety and rescue.
It’s okay to need a little help from a friend or a loved one, as US Marshal Jenna Sheriden certainly does, but it’s her duty to act and not merely react to situations just like the one she needs former Ghost Ops member Parker Conroy’s help WITH and not FOR.
One of Parker’s disgraced and dishonorably discharged former teammates has gone seriously rogue and it looks like he’s come to Alaska to get himself lost between murders. Alaska is a place where people really do go to lose themselves – but it’s a LOT more difficult to lose yourself when you pop out of hiding on a MUCH too regular basis to satisfy your need to rape and murder.
Still, Kyle Olson has the skills to continue his spree for entirely too long of a time. Jenna is excellent at what she does, but this bastard is seriously next level and she needs someone on that level to catch him. While Vander Norcross (his book is The Powerbroker), former head of Ghost Ops and still the badass ‘mother hen’ for all of them, knows that Parker Conroy is doing his damndest to lose himself in Alaska – albeit much more peacefully – and needs a way to expiate his own demons. Preferably on someone who really, really, deserves it.
Jenna needs Parker to help her catch Olson, Parker needs Jenna to bring him back from the wilderness. And Olson seriously needs to get caught. Or dead. Whichever. As long as he ends up somewhere he can’t manage to escape from. Again.
Escape Rating A-: Clearly, I went into The Hero She Loves expecting to enjoy it – and I absolutely did!
First, this does feel like the Alaska I knew through other people’s stories when I lived there. Anchorage is nothing like the Alaskan bush, and Valdez is tiny in comparison, a city of 4,000 compared to Anchorage’s not quite 300,000. (The local joke is that Anchorage is about 45 minutes from the “REAL” Alaska. Valdez is way closer than that.)
But still, it felt like the place I knew enough that nothing took me out of the story.
What made the story work for me is that Jenna was absolutely Parker’s equal, both for good and for bad. Not just that they’re equally badass and kickass in their own ways, but that they are each weighted down by emotional baggage trains filled with equally terrible demons. It’s not that they have the exact same demons, but that their demons are as big and bad as each other’s.
And neither of them believes that they can afford to look for love – let alone find it – no matter how much they both need it. And, of course, each other. Even if it does take a while for them to see it.
I found myself a bit torn, however, when it comes to the villains of this piece. There’s a little villain (and I mean that in any way that you might want to take it) in the person (using that term a bit loosely) of Jenna’s almost, sorta/kinda ex who just so happens to be her current boss in the Marshal service. He doesn’t even rise to the level of asshole. He’s just a little pisser. Repeatedly, often, and I’m surprised Jenna never gave in to at least dreaming about decking him. I want to say his actions and his character don’t ring true, but the problem is that they do – to the point where I’m left questioning her judgement a lot more than I’d like to. I wish he’d slunk away after he caused this entire debacle at the opening and I really wish he’d gotten exactly what he deserved at the end. But in real life, guys like him don’t. Dammit.
Howsomever, the real villain didn’t feel, well, real. While on the one hand that’s a head I’m really grateful not to have ever been in – I’d have hated reading anything from his perspective – at the same time he was so over the top he was mostly a caricature rather than a character.
On my third hand, the one behind my back, I’m not supposed to like him, he’s the villain. And I certainly did have a great time with Jenna and Parker visiting at least the vicinity of one my own old stomping grounds and watching them stomp all over someone who really deserved it even as they snuck into each other’s hearts.
The Hero She Loves marks the wrap of the author’s Unbroken Heroes series, barring any happy ever after all around epilogue – and I’d love to see one. I’m hoping that what comes next from this author is the first book in her NEW science fiction romance series, because those are always my favorites! We’ll certainly see in the months ahead.
I enjoyed it but there’s a few things that really don’t make any sense, and plot mistakes. The mfc is a bit annoying at times as well.
I did enjoy this book, but it wasn’t fantastic. There are a few plot mistakes, and one huge one, and Jenna as a Marshall was laughable in places. I just didn’t believe in her unfortunately.
When an ex ghost ops team member is on the run for a string of murders, Vander recommends his old team mate Parker, to help with the hunt. He’ll be working with Jenna a US Marshall who is determined to get her man. Parker at the beginning of the book and in the last book is struggling with life. After being captured and tortured while in the army, and watching his team mates lose their lives, he has serious ptsd. Understandably. He also can’t bear anyone touching him. The problem is later on in the book when he’s all in love with Jenna, he’s suddenly fine, and people can touch him again. 🫤 I really don’t think he would be fine suddenly!
Then there’s Jenna. Jenna had something traumatic happen to her when she was a child, and it affects how she is now, and how she acts. At the beginning she’s very cold, and duty only. As the book progresses she does warm up, but she makes some stupid mistakes in the hunt for the killer. She distracts Parker and he gets injured, she splits everyone up into teams of two when she knows he’s he’s incredibly dangerous. Her team has Parker on it and he’s struggling with his injury. She’s so obsessed with getting him that he run through an area where he’s already put explosives! 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ It doesn’t make sense!
As the chase for the killer continues it gets exciting, and Vander makes a rare appearance which I liked. As ex delta team members both Park and Vander make mistakes that they really wouldn’t make, that could have been deadly.
In between chasing the killer, Parker and Jenna fall in love and have s*x a lot in weird places where they should be on guard, and it distracts both of them. Sigh….
I did mostly enjoy it but there are A LOT OF MISTAKES. Really sorry as I do love this author.
I really tried hard to savor this book knowing it was the last in one of my favorite series ever, but I couldn’t. I binged this book in one sitting….because I was literally on the edge of my seat! US Marshall Jenna Sheidan is after a highly trained killer in the Alaskan wilderness, and she needs help to catch the bad guy. Who better else to help than someone that has the same training. That is where Parker Conroy. Parker left the Ghost Ops and wanted to live quietly away from people. While he still considered himself close to his Ghost Op buddies he didn’t mind the life of solitude….until Jenna. US Marshall Jenna Sheridan is as fierce, talented and smart as they come. But she feels like she has a lot to prove- to herself. When the bad guy got away in the Wilderness of Alaska she knew she needed to call in for backup and back up came in the form of Parker Conroy. I love how initially this pair was attracted to one another based on their intelligence and skills, the physical attraction quickly followed because competence is just plain sexy and these two are so very competent! The ride the Hackett took us on was WILD. I thoroughly enjoyed every.single.word! The twists, the turns, and the action were amazing and you could feel the tension and when the bad guy began making mistakes you knew they were closing in! One of the best things about any book Anna Hackett writes is that there is no doubt that Vander Norcross is going to find a way to help or provide some assistance. I am never ever sad to see him show up and it makes me so happy these amazing heroes have someone at their back always. If you are a fan of action movies, heroes finding women that bring them to their knees and found families that show up for each other, this book and series is a must read, in my opinion! Anna Hackett writes some of the best romantic suspense out there and I look forward to her releases! I can’t wait to see what she has in store for readers next!
Our former Ghost Ops series is coming to an end and Parker and Jenna have a fugitive to find!
Parker claims he went to Alaska to decompress but is he kidding himself? Is he actually hiding out from his demons rather then facing them? But with a friend like Vander Norcross, Parker will not be hiding out for long! Vander has "volunteered" him to assist with a fugitive manhunt which has hit close to home for Ghost Ops. One of their former colleagues, a complete waste of space, has turned r*pist and murderer. They cannot allow him to besmirch the good (but secret) name of Ghost OPs.
Jenna's blood is boiling. The Marshalls have lost good people, the state troopers were injured and a hedonistic killer is on the loose. Again! Worse, she's now got to work with some civilian. But soon after meeting Parker she realises that he may be the best weapon in her arsenal. They tear around Alaska looking for their fugitive and end up in a one-bed, fake married, scenario and I'm here for that every damn time. A one off fling? Eh, not likely!
There are lots of important themes laced throughout the book including redemption, mental health, trauma, redemption, survivor guilt and finding peace. There are some TW that some may find necessary: R*ape and murder is mentioned and threatened to a character, PTSD, traumatic childhood, torture.
Parker is a wonderful MC as he may be rough, tough and dinged around the edges but he is aware that Jenna is a tough cookie herself and well able to care and defend herself. She gives as good as she gets and is no wimpy damsel. Jenna can see right through that gruff exterior of Parker's and isn't above a bit of mental manipulation to get him on side.
There are some great secondary characters, including Jenna's protégé and there's even a visit from Vander and the remaining Ghost Ops members. An epic banter fest when this lot gets together and I had a full technicolour movie playing in my head for the big finale - theme music and everything lol!
5 STARS++ Surprise Combustible Relationship US Marshal Jenna Sheridan was bringing in Kyle Olson, a former Ghost Ops team member and a brutal serial killer when he escaped, leaving a trail of death. To recapture Olson, Jenna is forced to admit that help from someone with the skills of a Ghost Ops warrior would be safer and more efficient. Parker (Park) Conroy’s time on a Ghost Ops team was a dream job he excelled at until it ended horribly. Park is recuperating in the solitude of Alaska’s backcountry. He has no interest in leaving his cabin or helping anyone until Vander Norcross nudges him to step out of his comfort zone. Soon respect and attraction develop between Park and Jenna. The suspense while tracking this evil man is beyond intense and scary. But on the good side, Jenna is growing on Park. They make a superhero team. Both are at the pinnacle of their skills and cunning but still struggle because Olson is sneaky and good at being a monster. I LOVE HOW Park respects Jenna’s skills and knowledge and is not intimidated by her career. They were partners every step of the way. Both are wonderful characters who have overcome awful childhoods. I loved having VANDER NORCROSS and his team swooping in like avenging angels to help end this reign of terror. The entire Unbroken Heros series is heartwarming, featuring good men who suffered for their country, are working through mental and physical injuries, and are finding peace and love. Who doesn’t love that? Linda
The Hero She Loves is a pager-turner read with edge of your seat suspense, raging emotions, lots of action, witty banter, danger, admirable characters, vivid scene descriptions, sizzling passionate romance and a happy forever.
The story takes place in the incredible state of Alaska famous for beautiful glaciers, sky-high mountains, flawless lakes and rivers. Parker Conroy, ex Ghost Ops, lives alone in a cabin off a small lake away from people. He prefers to be alone in silence because of a haunting past. Parker is a hunk, with brown-golden hypnotic eyes and dark-black hair clipped short. His only friend is an amusing red squirrel who leaves him gifts for food. Senior Deputy Marshal Jenna Sheridan has stunning blue eyes, is attractive, speaks her mind, and is a strong enough for her challenging job. She needs Parker’s help to catch an evil criminal wreaking havoc in Alaska. Vander Norcross from Norcross Security: Parker’s commanding Ghost Ops officer recommended him to her. He comes out of his quiet, alone life to help her. They face many dangerous obstacles before reaching their happy forever.
A fascinating read that kept me eager to learn what happened next. The author does a phenomenal job with this romantic suspense read and shows you can leave your past behind with the right incentive. Backstories bring you closer to the characters. Parker and Jenna both are protective of each other; Jenna brings sunshine back into Parker’s life. Loved this read and reviewed a pre-release copy of this book.
US Marshall. Tortured Ghost Ops. Fugitive. Romance. Action.
Literally has everything a girl could ask for.
I loved Jenna. She’s a fierce, intelligent and a complete bad ass. She’s out here kicking arses and slapping cuffs on some of the baddest people. She’s just amazing.
My heart broke for Parker. He’s tortured, suffers from PTSD and just wants peace in his life. But when Jenna comes to him and asks him for help that only his skill set can provide he battles with what’s he wants and what’s right.
These two are exactly what the other needs. They understand each other on a different level. The support and acceptance they give each other is everything.
Parker and Jenna are on a mission. To hunt down a serial killer that used to be on the same team as Parker. The investigation heats up with long nights, camping and a little undercover work both in the streets and the sheets.
This reminds me a little of Seal Team and SVU so I was here for it. It’s a quick read but it sucks you in. There’s action around every corner and character development that we all need in books.
The only thing I didn’t like is there is one part that is repetitive but overall it didn’t take away from the story.
I really enjoyed it and will definitely be going back to read the rest of this series.
Thank you to the author agency and the author for allowing me to arc read. I enjoyed this one so much!
We met Parker in Hollis and Sawyer's book and he was VERY MUCH one of Vander's men. Which is to say he was gloriously capable and pretty much a loner. You know, until he meets his person. Then he just might be okay with having someone at his side.
In Parker's case, his someone is US Marshall Sheridan. Jenna is driven and gloriously capable as well. She's also observant and dogged. Which means she doesn't give up on people when they cross her path. As it turns out, that goes for both ex-military men and fugitives. Sure, she and Parker might have only crossed paths initially because she needed his help in hunting down a dangerous killer, but she saw all the layers hidden under Parker's grouchy exterior and it didn't take long before she was trying to convince herself that a relationship with the big guy was probably a bad idea since they lived two very different lives in two very different parts of the country. To be fair, she didn't do well convincing herself of any of that.
A dangerous killer with the skill to disappear if given the chance, a chase that throws two people together in the best way, a man who knows a good partner when he meets her (although he fights that partnership for a while), and a lady who gives everything she's involved in 100%. Well, except her last relationship. But good riddance to that guy, amirite?!?!
I love this series so much! Parker was in the last book and it is so great to have his story now! He was a POW and touch adverse after begin tortured. He moved to Alaska afterwards to disappear and be alone. But when a fellow Ghost Ops team member turned psycho is now broken free from his US Marshal detail and on the loose he is approached by Jenna Sheridan a US Marshal to help find him. Jenna is a strong woman often used and abused by the alpha holes that run rampant in her line of work. Especially her ex who is now her boss. But when they seem to have an instant connection and he can tolerate and even enjoy her touch and he falls hard and she thinks that maybe this time it will be different better… I love the action and suspense woven in this story there are twists and turns you do not see coming. They support each other never stepping on the other truly having each others back. I love how they think and move succinctly.
The tension and emotion that you feel as they are on this manhunt and when it all seems to be lost is so so good it’s gripping! It’s definitely a fantastic ending to this series I’m so sad it’s over I know she has something amazing in store for us next though! Definitely check the triggers before reading this as there are some areas that may impact your mental health.
*4 stars* It's the fifth installment in this series but the second book I've read so far as I've only recently discovered the author' books but you can definitely read it as a standalone. A suspenseful read with a witty edge at times but definitely one that has you on the edge of your seat, trying to figure out all the pieces to hopefully a happy ending. Another great read in this series!
Jenna's a US Marchal that needs to help transfer a heavy criminal but plans go south and tragedy strikes. Not really knowing what to do next as time will run out fast to catch a killer soon; she turns towards the special ops who might know someone that could help her out. As soon as she meets Parker, there's something about him that intrigues her and there's a spark between them but she feels there's a lot that's hidden underneath but he might be the only one that can help her and the team out. Parker has kept to himself over the last few years and when Jenna's on his doorstep, he's not eager to help as he's gotten used to the quietness and just being on his own. But danger lurks near and he's compelled to track the killer before more victims are made. There's also something about Jenna that draws him to her. Will they be on time?...
Action packed with fantastic wells developed characters
US Marshal Jenna is in Alaska to bring in a serial killer, but he escapes. Since the killer is former Ghost Ops, she knows it will take another Ghost Ops person to recapture him. Vander Norcross recommends Parker who is living in Alaska after he got out of Ghost Ops to get away from people. Can he handle the tough as nails Marshal? Yes. Does he even want to be involved with this mission? Maybe. Can he let the man kill and rape again? No! See what happens when they team up to go after the bad guy!
The pace is breakneck and it tone is intense with an action and character oriented storyline that has some super steamy scenes. The characters are vivid and kickass, especially Jenna. There is a surprising amount of character development considering how much action happens! You can read this book on its own but will get more out of it if you read the series in order. If you want to start at the very beginning read Treasure Hunter Security series in order, then Team 52 in order, then Norcross Security in order, then the Billionaire Heists in order, then Sentinel Security in order before reading this series in order. Be prepared for a wild ride!
So, when I decided to read this one, I thought it was going to be a good “palate cleanser” if you would, a short novel sandwiched between the 300-400 pages novels awaiting my in my kindle, but let me tell you, I did not expect it to pack this much of a punch.
This was my first novel by this author and this book was the 5th on the series, which can clearly be read as a stand-alone.
This is Parker former Ghost Ops solider who has retreated to the wilderness of Alaska to get away from people after being captured by the enemy for 22 days and Jenna sassy, strong woman US Marshall trying to pave her own path in a Man’s world. They are brought together after a dangerous Fugitive escapes custody and Jenna needs his help to recapture him. What they don’t expect to find is each other.
There is so much plot development and character development through this entire novel. And what I loved even more is that it 3rd person POV.
I look forward to going back to read the novels that come before, I will also be on the look out for anything else written.
Thank you The Authors Agency and Anna Hackett for the ARC in return for an honest review
Well this was an action fuelled ride with pretty bad axx protagonists to boot ! Parker is a former ghost ops soldier who is burned out and has “retired “ to Alaska whilst Jenna is a tough US Marshal determined to catch up with a fugitive on the run. Parker might not initially be interested in catching someone he has a lot in common with but he cannot deny a part of him is very interested in the agent ! As for Jenna she just wants to catch the killer but what do you know sometimes there’s opportunities along the way wink wink ! I really enjoyed that the female protagonist was a respected character with her own agenda and abilities . Readers don’t always want a hero to the rescue but a partner ? Yes that’s offering different and intriguing dynamics . I was entertained by this although perhaps shorter than some romantic suspense stories that I choose to read . Nevertheless this had lots happening with cameos from characters the author has previously introduced which is always fun . Speaking of fun it’s plain that the author had just that writing about this couple and I think anyone who just wants to read something that leaves a smile on their face will very much enjoy this book. This voluntary take is of an advanced copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
I have been waiting for Parker's story since this spinoff started. And Anna Hackett gave me exactly what I wanted. Especially since The Hero She Loves started with a bang.
Jenna was awesome. Bold and fearless. Smart and savvy and in over her head trying to track down a ruthless criminal. Thankfully she was able to get the best tracker to help her. Even with his hesitancy to get involved and be around others, he couldn't help but admire Jenna and her tenacity.
Nothing like running for your life and trying to stay one step ahead of a skilled madman coupled with some close proximity to really intensify feelings. This was no sweet slow burn, oh no, these two were hot from the jump. Even when they tried to deny what was brewing went deeper than the physical, there was no escaping the fall.
I have to admit, I wanted a little more of the deeper connection between Jenna and Parker. That being said, I couldn't seem to stop reading. I had to know how everything would shake out when their lives took them back to their normal. And that ending, nothing else would've suited them better.
I am sad this is the end of this series but once again Anna hit it out of the park and brought me another grumpy scarred hero I just couldn’t help falling in love with.
I loved this story! You have a strong and determined FMC Jena who is a US Marshal and determined to catch her bad guy. When she calls in for help she is directed to find Parker because he would be the best at helping her catch the bad guy.
Parker is grumpy, scarred and has touch aversion (rightfully so). Jena barrels into his life and the man that he is won’t leave her to find the guy on her own so he agrees to help her. What he didn’t agree to was falling for her and quickly.
I loved these two! They were both very strong characters and Parker never stepped in to treat Jena like a damsel in distress instead this man let her lead the way like the badass she truly is!
While this is a quick read that does have insta-love/connection it has the perfect balance of plot and spice!
Thank you Anna and The Author Agency for the arc of this book
A serial killer with unusual skills was on the loose, spreading terror, and it was the mission of Jenna Sheridan, US Marshall, and Parker Conroy to capture him. Fighting the ghosts of his past and refusing to accept what fate had in store for him, Parker paired up with Jenna and they found themselves not only facing danger but opening a new opportunity for a future together. I loved the intense action and the exciting descriptions of the search. That's something I always like about these stories, which keep me on my toes imagining the different scenarios and enjoying the complicated twists of the plot. Quite a challenge for the protagonists. Clearly Jenna was Parker's equal with all her skills, courage, and determination, and I liked how she fought for what she wanted despite her baggage and the obstacles in her path. Parker always had the odds against her, thank goodness he quickly understood the skills that the woman at his side had and knew how to value them. Exciting action, suspense, intense emotions, great danger, camaraderie, a deranged villain, romance and passion.
