An unexpected visitor upends the Becker household while Shannon and Louise are forced to make a desperate decision to gain their freedom and continue on home in book 6 of Horizon's End.
Brought to you by the #1 best-selling - and most prolific - post-apocalyptic author Mike Kraus, writing with acclaimed author Justin Bell, Horizon's End is a gripping tale of survival, camaraderie and good versus evil in the shadow of a devastating natural disaster.
Across the country, a mysterious plague sweeps through both salt and fresh water, killing anyone - animals and humans alike - unfortunate enough to be in its vicinity. Relentless as it multiplies, all natural and man-made offenses and defenses against it are useless, and millions die in the first twenty-four hours alone.
Fishing off the coast of Massachusetts when disaster strikes, Mason Becker barely manages to get his boat ashore, and discovers to his horror that he and his family are some of the only survivors in his small town.
A thousand miles away in Seattle, Shannon Becker's business conference turns to chaos when thousands begin dropping dead in the city. As pandemonium breaks out, her ability to make snap decisions will be put to the test, and her ability to return to her husband and children is not guaranteed.

This continues a good series. The challenges of deadly algae and water everywhere are neatly highlighted in several scenarios; at the Becker home in a Massachusetts town and Shannon and Louise on their journey across country. Respect to Sergeant Charlie Fresca as she was a good soldier and person. We do get a reunion of sorts in Massachusetts and it was not unexpected. Rick, while a bad guy now, is interesting in how someone can slide into a dark place and justify the journey. On to book 7.
Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2025 While Mason still struggles with his limitations following his shooting at the murder trial following the picnic poisonings, Jodie tries for a big score of water at a cranberry processing plant, Shannon and Louise gain a new ally on the road home, Rick and his crew fight to survive their fugitive status, Plemmons' mental state continues to deteriorate with his fury aimed at Mason, all while the black clad motorcycle gang continues to wreak havoc. The writing is crisp, with well described action scenes and fairly detailed settings at calmer, introspective moments, really drawing the reader into the book. Into the Fire is as good as any so far in the series, A fairly high bar to meet. Highly recommended! 5/5 stars

I did enjoy this part to the series, a little less than the last to be honest, as I found in some parts the level of angst were a little high. Otherwise a good & well written adventure, with a few surprises along the way!
Once again these two outstanding authors have written another book in this ongoing series. One family finds out they’re the only ones left where they live. Others are struggling to make sense of what happened and survive this catastrophe. There’s no stopping until the very last page.
Can’t get enough of these books, excellent so well written. Mason is one stubborn man, but Jodie does not let him get away with anything. Let’s hope they can stay one step ahead of the bikers.
