Spencer Brothers #3.5

The Fostered Promise

Rate this book
It was easy to make the promise but much harder to keep it.
Everyone knows I'm in love with Drew…except Drew. I made a promise a long time ago, and if I break it, I will lose him, so I'm keeping my lips sealed.

The problem is that someone else is more than willing to put their lips on Drew, and let's just say that green is not a good color on me.

The Fostered Promise is a novella set in the Spencer Brothers world. Between cocktail lessons and cunning plans, you can expect romance, heat, fun, and confessions under the stars.

Buona lettura!

I received a free copy. This review is submitted voluntarily.

Drew has been in love with West since forever. Those feelings were reciprocated. Unfortunately, neither was aware of the other’s love. As former foster children, they have set up a foundation for the benefit of current ones. In the previous volume, they succeeded in getting a hospital that had closed down. Now they needed funds to transform the building to suit their purposes. The book opens with the fundraiser that takes the form of an auction for services. Drew is offering a course in mixology and West has decided to bid for it. Unfortunately, he is unsuccessful and that results in his being jealous of the winning bidder, Patrick. We, of course, find out that Patrick is taking the course to impress another man, but West doesn’t know. They go through a series of missed opportunities to admit their feelings, including West being injured in a fire in the hospital, but eventually reach a happy ending.

Given that this is a novella, the plot is fairly straightforward with essentially no detours. The main characters are nice guys who tend to be clueless when it comes to the other’s feelings. They seek advice from secondary characters (most of whom we have met in previous volumes) but don’t particularly follow that what they are offered. This does contribute to a certain amount of suspense. One knows they eventually find out, but they keep missing opportunities. The secondary characters are quite boisterous, at least the ones we’ve seen before. This makes them quite a bit of fun. However, they do make substantial contributions to plot development.

I recommend this book, especially as it ends the series.

Foster brothers need more!🙊

4.5🌟 stars
I really took to all of the basic elements of this novella. Friends with repressed feelings plot good; main characters West and Drew appealing with a poignant backstory as fellow fostered children who formed a bond to support each other; just a bit of steam to seal the deal but not really graphic; and a worthy cause they're both dedicated to support. It also had some scary drama, an interloping wealthy doctor who stirs the pot of jealousy, and those Spencer brothers in secondary roles.

That leads me to another plus for me; this could easily be read as a standalone without reference to the rest of the series. With a multi-volumed series, I often get frustrated remembering what I need to know from earlier books to understand what's going on. Not here.
But, for those who can't get enough of brash Noah Spencer and his brothers, this story adds a taste of them too.

My only issue: Drew and West hesitated speaking their feelings too often, even after they had convinced me they had gotten up the nerve!

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I’m pretty new to Ana Ashley work and have enjoyed everything of hers that I’ve read so far. I really enjoyed this novella which is part of the Spencer Brothers Series. I usually don’t like novellas as there isn’t enough time to build up a relationship between the characters, so they’re instalove and don’t feel as realistic as a full length book. This one didn’t bother me like they usually do as Drew and West have been in each others lives for years, since they’re foster brother’s who have secretly been in love with each other for years thinking the other doesn’t think the same and didn’t want risk losing the other by telling them how they feel, as they’d rather have the other in their lives as best friends than not at all. Well not a secret from all their friends but they both have absolutely no clue how the other feels. I’m glad that they finally got there happily ever after and I thought that they were cute together. I’m looking forward to reading more books from Ana Ashley in the future. I’d definitely recommend this novella, series and author to everyone.

Yes!! Fans of the series will be so happy to finally have Drew and West's story! It's been simmering in the background of brothers books and now is their chance, but only if they finally take it.
Drew and West became foster brothers who promised to stay together always. However, feelings changed when attraction grew, on both sides, and now each man is pining for the other. Whilst it seems all of their friends know how they both feel, neither has a clue about the others feelings as they hold back due to fear of losing each other.
It's a sweet romance and a pretty low angst novella that wraps up the series. It's been a joy to read throughout and this book just perfectly finishes it off. I love that all of the Spencer brothers haven't changed, still as charming and invasive as ever, now just bringing their partners along for the ride.
Drew and West don't make things easy on themselves, even with this being a novella but, after a dramatic moment, we get there eventually and the final couple of the series gets their HEA.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

🎧 Audiobook Review 🎧
Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Performance: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️️
Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love the Spencer brothers series and I'm almost a little sad that it's coming to an end. You can read “The Forstered Promise” as a standalone, but I recommend reading the Spencer brothers series first, because that's where Drew and West make their first appearances.
If you love best friends to lovers stories, this is the one for you. Drew has been in love with West forever and has been sneaking around West for a while, but he doesn't have the guts to make the first move. Yes, the story is slow burn, but it's well done and yet at times I found myself itching to nudge the two of them. Because apparently everyone knows about their feelings, except them. West and Drew are likeable characters whose story I was looking forward to. I really like them and I enjoyed the development of their relationship.

As always, Alexander Cendese did a great job narrating the audiobook. He has a pleasant voice and reads vividly. It was a pleasure to listen to him!

Buongiorno Peccatrici,

A tutt* buona lettura e a presto.

This is the perfect ending to the Spencer Brothers series. Drew and West have been friends since their childhood days together in foster care. As they’ve grown so have the feelings they have for each other but neither wants to take the chance for more in case all is ruined. After an unexpected life changing event the communication barriers are broken down and these two wonderful men finally find themselves exactly where they want to be - together forever.
This novella was such a joy to read and I certainly had a few feels as Drew and West fumbled their way to an HEA. At times I wanted to just yell at them to communicate whilst also wanting to give them a big hug and tell them all would be ok. I read this in one sitting as I was pulled in from the very beginning by the fantastic main characters and of course the story telling ability of Ana Ashley.

A great end to this series! We finally get Drew and West’s story. These two have been on our radar for a while now and it was clear how much they loved one another. But like Adam and River, they needed to admit to their best friend how they truly felt. Drew and West grew up together as foster brothers. Their lives have never been easy but at least they had one another. And they were determined to never let each other go. Their feelings have only become stronger and it is getting harder and harder not to admit they are in love with one another. And it’s only a matter of time until they are pushed to finally take the leap and hope it all works out. Loved these two! Their story was a perfect way to bring an end to this series.

Although this book can be read standalone, we do meet Drew and West as peripheral characters in the main Spencer Brothers stories, and you can see what is clearly evident to everyone around them... they need to get out of their own way... and something needs to give for them to be able to do that.

I won't spoil anything, but it gets to a point.. you know that point... and it's delicious to watch them...

If you love an oblivious best friends to lovers story that is a quick read, you can pick up the novella as standalone, but if you love watching them circle each other and pine, you can see their story develop over the entire series as a bonus to reading the amazing Spencer Brothers stories.

Drew and West’s story of mutual pining is beautifully crafted. You can feel the want emanating from both characters. This is, of course, all wrapped up in the hopeful work of the charitable foundation being set up.

Then Ashley proves she can write suspenseful scenes as well as she does romance. Holy crap but my heart was in my throat. The author has a real gift with drawing you into the scene and having you feel every emotion.

With appearances by Lex, Emery, Noah, River and Adam, this is a great series conclusion but still enjoyable as a standalone novella. The foundation being set-family aspect shines through, even for newbies. 5 stars.

Best friends to lovers, foster brothers, found family, pining, there's a lot packed into this last novella in the Spencer Brothers series.

If you've read the 3 main books, you'll know Drew and West are on the edges of the group. They are Noah's friends because he volunteers with them at their charity. I wouldn't say it's necessary to have read those though, as most of the important details are mentioned in the novella.

Drew and West were great characters. I was invested in their relationship to the point I was getting ready to give them a push! Yeah, this is a slow burn, but it's worth it.

Loved the epilogue. Great way to end the series.

Drew and West, once foster brothers who vowed to always stay together, find their relationship evolving as mutual attraction grows between them. Despite their feelings, both men hold back, fearing that acting on their emotions could ruin their bond. Their friends seem to know about their unspoken feelings, but Drew and West remain unaware of each other's desires. This sweet, low-angst novella concludes the series beautifully, offering a satisfying wrap-up. The charming Spencer brothers remain as lovable and intrusive as ever, now accompanied by their partners, making the story even more heartwarming.

Two foster brothers, turned best friends, are simmering with mutual, but oblivious, pining.

I love BFFs pinning for one another. Especially when their friends know. And it’s completely understandable given their upbringing and promises to always be by each other's sides. It’s a lot to risk, but oh so wonderful when they do.

They are both wonderful guys, and it was a lot of fun watching them find their happy ever after.

A perfect ending to the Spencer Brothers series. Drew and West are best friends and grew up in fostercare together. They catch feelings for each other and both are terrified to ruin their relationship with declaration of love. I was sitting on pins and needles waiting for them to get their act together and declare their love for each other.
And what a sweet ending it was. I couldn't put the book down and read it in one go. It gave me a warm feeling in my heart and put a smile on my face.
Ana Ashley has a wonderful way of telling her stories and I always enjoy her books.

I absolutely adored this novella!
We’ve seen Drew and West in the background of the Spencer Brothers finding their HEA, and it was so lovely to finally see them stop dancing around each other and going for their own happiness.
While it’s absolutely crystal clear to everyone around them they are absolutely and totally in love with each other, both of them believe they are the only one pining for the other and are scared to make a move. It takes them the better part of the book, between fear and multiple interruptions at exactly the wrong moments, to finally own up to their feelings.
A perfect cherry on top of this great series!

Very cute novella, about foster brothers, that are best friends, who have been in love with each other for years but did not act on it afraid that the other did not feel the same and afraid of loosing their friendship which is the most important thing in their life. I enjoyed the book even if it has a bit too much of non-communication for me.
It's an easy, entertaining read, with two very sweet main characters, concluding the Spencer Brothers story with a warm feeling of found family.

I got an ARC and this is my honest review.

Je me suis régalée !

I'm so glad that Drew and West got their own story, and it was terrific. They were secondary characters in the series but they so deserved their own happy every after. This best-friends-to-lovers tale was sweet, fun and emotional, and had just the right amount of angst to give the two of them the push they needed to be honest with each other. I loved it, and can highly recommend this novella as a great addition to the series.

I enjoyed this sweet friends-to-lovers MM romance. Drew and West had been dancing around each other for so long, I had almost given up on seeing them ever become more than friends. But Ana didn't let us down. This story is so sweet, with pining, secret feelings, secrets revealed, friendship, and love. I'm sad to see the series end, but this was a really great way to end it.

I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Great addition to the series!

I loved The Fostered Promise by Ana Ashley. It's the third book in the Spencer Brothers Novellas series. I loved Drew and West's story. It was short, it was sweet, and you just wanted to shake both of them and tell them to confess their feelings for each other already. I loved their foundation and the people that they could help with it.

I read this book using the Kindle unlimited app.
