Sagebrush Cowboys #2

Whiskey and Wildfire

Rate this book
Two cowboys. One failing ranch. A spark that could burn it all down.

Logan I swore I’d never come back to Sagebrush. But New York broke me, and now the family ranch is the only thing I have left. It’s drowning in debt, the town is watching me fail, and I’m out of options. Then I see Dakota. He’s a Cherokee cowboy with eyes that see right through my city armor. He’s guarded, intense, and completely off-limits. I need to focus on saving my legacy. But every time we touch, the only thing I want to save is us.

Dakota I keep my life simple. Protect the land. Honor my heritage. Guard my heart. Then Logan Baker shows up, looking lost and dangerous to my peace of mind. He wants to save the ranch, but his "investors" want to turn my culture into a sideshow. I should hate him for even thinking about selling out. I should keep my distance. But the fire between us is hotter than the Texas sun, and for the first time, I’m scared. Because I’m falling for the man who might cost me my dignity.

Welcome to Sagebrush, Texas. Where the stakes are high, the nights are long, and redemption tastes like whiskey and wildfire.

Bref, me voilà donc à attendre la suite maintenant !

DNF @ 50%

Logan having very intense anger towards Beau almost made it seem like the book was going to pair them together via an enemies to lovers thing (which by comparison, kinda made Dakota feel like chopped lettuce tbh)

Dakota coming up and extending friendship to Logan happened too quickly imo. I'd have liked there to have been more tension and a slower evolution of their dynamic as opposed to Dakota explicitly rejecting Logan's offer then immediately offering his friendship and confidence two days later.

Dakota admitting he was attracted to Logan also came way too quickly, being literally the same day he offered to be Logan's friend. Again, would've liked to have seen a slower progression of their dynamic.

Seemed like things going too fast was a theme here because Logan and Dakota choosing to get together and have sex right after their very first date almost felt like a speedrun.

I found Caroline incredibly annoying and incredibly unlikable after she admitted that she knew Dakota was avoiding her, but she kept on trying to stay around him because she thought he was handsome. Inappropriate much? The dude already told her no, why have Logan even ask afterwards? Then she punches him twice to do the whole "treat my little bro good or else" (as if casual hitting was appropriate) AND Dakota was fine with that? Wasn't he fucking scared about exactly that situation? Where of things didn't work out between him and Logan, he have to deal with the consequences of the fallout, AKA having to still work with the family despite things ending? Wasn't Caroline's warning/threat the exact embodiment of that outcome? Him chuckling and even taking blame for how he apparently handled Caroline's advances infuriated me because it just showed how the author wrote this part without properly considering what something like that meant to Dakota's character (and was also just casually excusing female agression and inappropriate-ness)

Primarily DNF-ing because the story was generally boring. Logan and Dakota had already gotten together and there wasn't really anything standing in the way of their relationship. Despite having cute little conversations getting to know each other, there was almost no real conflict between the two, no real reason the two should not stay together, and as a result, there was zero romantic tension because there were no real stakes.

TL;DR: Relationship happens too fast and there isn't anything to stop Logan and Dakota from getting together and staying together, making the book boring and fluffy as hell.

Intense, torrid and moving
It's a pleasure to go back to the small town of Sagebrush, its prairies and the dust of its arid spaces, and its inhabitants in this second volume.
This time we meet Logan, who grew up in Sagebrush and fled to make a life for himself in New York, where he met Lucas, his best friend. After the events of the first volume, Logan is forced to move back to Sagebrush. We discover a man full of anger and insecurity, and feel a great deal of compassion for what he has endured and for the moment in his life when everything falls apart.
Dakota has been an employee on his family's ranch for five years, and they find themselves working together. Dakota has his own insecurities; he too fled his family and the reservation he lived on, and worked hard to rebuild a life here in Sagebrush.
We love watching the two men grow closer and fall in love with each other, facing their fears while fighting for the survival of the ranch.

----

Too many

long sex scenes that grind the story to a halt over and over. I don’t understand why mm romance writers think this is obligatory or something. Believable characters and plot.

Another good book for the series!

I loved book one, and I absolutely loved this book, too. This one is about Logan (Lucas' bestie from book 1) and the handsome ranch hand who works on his family's farm, Dakota. Logan is at a loss. Things didn't work out in New York, and he's back in the small town he swore he'd leave behind forever. He's lost with no direction and what feels like a trail of failure following him around but for now at least he has his family and the Texas sky and it doesn't hurt to have a gorgeous cowboy around either. Dakota was tired of reservation life and his father's drunk ways and left 5 years ago and made himself a home on the Baker Ranch. He mainly keeps to himself as being a Cherokee man in Texas is talked about more than he'd like, and he feels like by opening up, he's only asking for heartbreak. Until he and Logan cross paths. Dakota has been working for Logan's family for awhile but Logan and him haven't really had many interactions though they've noticed each other plenty and when Logan is back home and the attraction they feel for each other is returned they end up on a path neither of them expected. There was doubt and fear in their way, but slowly, things changed, and they got closer and felt a strong connection to the other. But when tragedy strikes and the ranch is at stake they'll have to make hard decisions that could make or break them but even though it gets rough these cowboys ride it out and come together when they need each other the most. I loved loved loved Dakota's mom, and I was so happy that Beau and Lucas made appearances as well! This series keeps getting better, and I'm can't wait for what's to come next for the men of Sagebrush

This is book two of the author’s Sagebrush Cowboys series and features Logan who first appeared in book one, Rust and Stardust.

This Texas boy thought he’d escaped for good when he moved to New York City but he’s back now, against his will, and feeling like a duck out of water. Drinking himself stupid every night hasn’t helped but when he gets to know Dakota, the handsome young Cherokee ranch hand, suddenly he’s not regretting it quite so much.

Dakota keeps everyone at a distance; sure he gets lonesome at times but it’s better this way—not letting anyone in means he never has to worry about being left behind. He wishes it was different; Logan, his boss’ son, is gorgeous but unfortunately it’s the boss’ daughter that won’t leave him alone.

This was SUCH a good book! Both Logan and Dakota were so amazingly real! They weren’t these flat, one dimensional characters like we sometimes see, I could literally see the whole book playing through my mind’s eye, every detail as if it were a movie. It was like they were real people and not just words on a page… I loved it!!! 5 stars!!!

I received a copy of this book for free but this is my honest opinion.

There is something so beautiful about Sagebrush, the prairie, the people and the hot as hell cowboys!
Atreus has done another fantastic job with this story, bringing together Logan and Dakota in a way that honours the Cherokee history and highlights that love can overcome many things.

Logan returned to his hometown of Sagebrush with his best friend Lucas in book 1. He's living back on his family ranch, with no real job prospects and not feeling like he's part of anything. Until he goes on a cattle drive with Dakota and his best friends boyfriend Beau and makes some realisations about himself and the people around him. After a few particularly interesting nights sharing a tent and sleeping bag with Dakota while trying to ignore the sizzle chemistry between them maybe Sagebrush is exactly where he's meant to be.

With some unexpected plot twists and a few almost misunderstandings Logan and Dakota find that together they are whiskey and wildfire and there's no stopping their sparks.

This book cuts deep. I loved it! It is more enjoyable to read in order. After reading the first book, I couldn't wait for this one! It focuses on Logan, and the ranch hand Dakota. A lot of things happen in this book. Both have to go through bad situations and confront them. It is so good to see a couple that make mistakes along the way, and even if they were hurt, going to speak and listen with compassion. No third break up. It is wonderfully written. Both characters felt so real, and are so lovable !

In this captivating continuation of the series, we rejoin Logan as he navigates life back in the quaint town of Sagebrush. After a failed mission to steal cherished recipes, Logan finds himself jobless and homeless, returning to the place he once tried to escape. The warmth of his family’s forgiveness does little to ease his feelings of defeat, especially as he moves back into his childhood home.

Logan’s homecoming isn’t as smooth as he hoped, particularly with Dakota, the ranch hand recently hired by his family. Tension crackles from the start, as both characters carry their baggage—and it’s not just the ranch feeling the strain. Readers will feel the heat of their interactions, as misunderstandings slowly give way to deeper connections. Their journey from conflict to understanding is not only, beautifully written but also remarkably relatable.

Throughout the ups and downs, Logan and Dakota discover more than just each other; they find their true selves. With the charming backdrop of Sagebrush, readers are treated to a rollercoaster of emotions, each turn filled with laughter, tears, and heartwarming moments that affirm the beauty of second chances. The strong character development ensures you’ll be rooting for their happy ever after, feeling thoroughly invested in their story.

Join Logan and Dakota as they learn to overcome their doubts, ultimately cheering for a love, that feels destined. This book is sure to leave you wanting more!

I have to admit, Logan was a little annoying for me in the first book, but that was mostly because, as a side character, we didn't spend much time with him and didn't know the root of his behavior. I was genuinely looking forward to his book so we could get to know him better.
Here, we get to follow Logan as he returns to his family home and discovers a new calling, a purpose in life, and, of course, love. It was great catching up with Lukas and Beau! 🥹 I loved watching Logan get the chance to finally process his past and work through some old issues. When a dramatic event puts the family ranch at risk, it forces Logan to realize what he really wants for his future.
And then there's Dakota—another man who stole my heart! 😍 There is just something incredibly captivating about quiet, shy men who sweep us off our feet with their aura of calm and their intense gaze.
I absolutely loved watching the relationship develop between Logan and Dakota. Seemingly mismatched, they were actually made for each other. I am so happy that Dakota found a true home and love on Logan's family ranch, because, oh boy, did he deserve it! 🏡❤️

The second book in the Sagebrush cowboy series, Whiskey is the follow-up to Lucas and Beau's book, Rust and Stardust. Logan was Lucas' partner in crime come to steal recipes from the barbequists of Sagebrush. Fired, along with Lucas, he returns to the family ranch. Only to find out the ranch is on the edge of bankruptcy.
Dakota is Native American and gay which led to his leaving the reservation to find himself. He's worked for Logan's family for years. And is a bit reluctant to act on his attraction to Logan, the bosses son.
The book is a steady read. with none of the intrigue of the first book. There's some angst. A few road humps and surprises along the way. But once they give in, my kindle went up in flames. I'm not a fan of sex-sex-a tiny bit of plot-sex-sex plots. And there's almost too many smexy sizzle.
But Rosewood does make it work. (Or you can skim and not lose too much plot)
A fun, fast read. Rosewood leaves some clues for book three.
I received an advanced copy of this book and this is my review.

OH WOW 😮 this was a steamy page turner and the suspense was totally worth it. Absolutely loved this story. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t even put it down. It was so intense and mind blowing of drama. Logan return home to his small town of Sagebrush, Texas to where he meet Dakota and handsome guy. Logan and Dakota's had a sexual encounter that was shocking and intense. But they couldn’t fight the temptation and feelings of this captivating connection between them and the physical attraction was intimacy and fireworks exploded in the sky on a summer night. Has Logan find love once again with Dakota who truly cares about him and understanding of sacrifice and more.
I definitely recommend this book and you won’t be disappointed. I received advance copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion. Trina Jones

We were introduced to Logan in Rust and Stardust, now jobless he stayed on his family ranch trying to make amends for the betrayal to his family. Dakota has been on the ranch since he left the reservation and whilst there is an attraction, he does not want to risk his job.
This was a good addition to the series and to see if Logan starts to love Sagebrush again. Whilst there was an instant attraction between Logan and Dakota it took a while for Logan to get what he wanted and you can see that moment when Dakota realises he could not fight the attraction anymore.
It was good to catch up with Lucas and Beau and when things on the Ranch are not what they seem I loved how they all worked together.
This was low angst but it doesn't go smoothly and I didn't put this book down until everything was resolved.

The second book in the Sagebrush Cowboys follows Logan and Dakota. Logan is back in Sagebrush after he and Lucus failed to steal the winning BBQ recipe for his former boss in NY. He can't believe he is back home and on the ranch. He wanted so much more. However, trying to make admends for trying to steal from family he helps with they round up and gets closer to Dakota one of the ranch hands.
Dakota loves the ranch and its home for him. He has some family baggage and being Cherokee doesn't always make things easier.
Logan and Dakota hit it off and start to fall for each other when Logan's father has a heart attack and things aren't what they seem on the ranch.
This is a sweet, low-mid angst, with family drama and some fun secondary characters.

A return to Sagebrush, focusing on Logan this time!

I enjoyed the plot to this one. Logan and Dakota working together to save the family ranch. A lot of focus is spent on Logan dealing with his recent job loss and trying to find his place in the world. Meanwhile, Dakota is struggling with his desires to find a place to truly call home. All together it creates a recipe for both men to find comfort in each other. Especially the spicy kind of comfort! ;)

I'm a fan of series where characters make reappearances and we do get to see our friends Beau, Lucas, and my favorite, Dolly again! I'm hoping this trend continues with the future books.

Logan and Dakota…

Logan is back at the family Ranch, since his New York job ended in failure, but there must be something to do with his life. The Rancho isn’t thriving.
Dakota, Native American Cherokee, is their ranch hand who has loved his work and the ranch is his only home.
What can Logan do to turn things around after his Dad’s heart attack, and he’s in charge?
I like the characters, the new concept for the ranch, the struggles and ideas, plus the romance, sexy times and big hopes.
Enjoy !

Logan & Dakota...So GOOD!
Logan living back home with his family after leaving the chaos, trauma and shady dealings at work in New York, he and bestie Lucas (book#1) went through.

Unsure of what his next move is, with bills piling up, he's not in a good state of mind. Until..

Dakota, working on the ranch is the strong silent type who is/has been attracted to Logan.

Their road to their hea is not easy, but you'll be laughing, cheering and falling in love with bith Logan & Dakota!🔥🫠

What a nice book, Atreus. Logan, who grew up in Sagebrush, Texas and left for an ad job in New York, returns to Sagebrush, not entirely voluntarily, and meets Dakota, a full-blooded Cherokee, at his family's ranch. Sparks fly, Dakota's mother and Logan's father approve, as does Lucas, Logan's highschool friend, and even Beau and Logan make up from a spat they had growing up. This is life as it's supposed to be. Yes, there will be a wedding.

Loved the story!

Logan had returned home permanently after being fired along with Lucas but he hated being back at the ranch. Dakota is a Native American ranch hand who has his baggage. It takes a cattle drive to bring Dakota and Logan together but bliss isn't around the corner just yet. It'll take both of their strengths to save the ranch.

Love these Texas cowboys!

I wasn’t born in Sagebrush, TX, where this story series is set. But I was born in that area of Texas. My heart feels at home as the writer describes the area and the people. My imagination fills in the details. The night sky. The heat of the sun. When he men are together - that’s when it really gets hot!

There are no spoilers in this review. This is book #2 of the Sagebrush series. It did not disappoint. It blended perfectly with #1, Rust and Stardust. I couldn't put it down. The same characters and they are even more developed. And the epilogue was great.

Great Story, Plot, and More

I thought the first Sagebrush Cowboys was wonderful, but this was even better because it included characters from #1 seamlessly. And the “and more” threatened to burst “my” jeans! Thank you, Blake. Now I’m off to #3….!

Una buena continuación con buenas frases que guardar.
Siento que algunas escenas spicy tuvieron diálogos repetidos, pero no le quitaban lo interesante.
