I actually came across this book at my gym on the recycled books table and I'm glad that I did. As a Christian, and a reader of mostly bios, I thought this would be an interesting read as I'd be able to gain insight on how one continues to keep their faith in God, despite what seems like unimaginable odds. Her story is not preachy, nor does it force feed religion down one's throat. Instead,it focuses on her motivation as well as dedication to overcome severe poverty, familial mental illness, sexual & physical abuse, and a disability to become highly educated and an advocate for those who are underrepresented. . There were times when the book became a bit repetitive, and I felt like some of the pages were just "filler pages", but in the end, I was able to move on to finish this remarkable story. If ever you feel like your life SUCKS, read this and I'm sure you'd beg to differ.
