AN OLD FOE IS CHARGED WITH MURDER.Criminal Defense Attorney Mitch Turner is outside the county building when his nemesis, Frank Ward, is arrested and charged with murder. When their eyes meet as the cops parade Ward to the police car, Mitch knows Ward will call him, and he is conflicted. Curiosity compels him to meet with Ward, and he can’t stand idly by after hearing Ward’s chilling recollection of the events that led to his arrest. Ward might be a reckless prosecutor, but a murderer? Mitch doesn’t think so.

A SIMPLE CASE BECOMES COMPLEX.Assistant State’s Attorney Ainsley Karsten was discovered stabbed in the basement of the county building, and Frank Ward was found unconscious in the same room. The evidence is convincing. But the deeper Mitch digs, the more he finds questions he can’t answer. Questions that take him to a place he’s hesitant to go.

A NEW FOE WILLING TO DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO WIN.On top of that, the independent prosecuting attorney Pace Brooks is determined to convict Ward at all costs, seeing it as a steppingstone to political office. The deck is stacked against Mitch as he struggles against this determined and seasoned attorney, who is looking to take advantage of every opportunity, even at the cost of truth and justice.

Can Mitch Turner keep his wits about him in the game of oneupmanship and see that the truth prevails?

Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved.A police car lurched to a stop on the street ahead of me. It had barely stopped before an officer was out of the car and running straight toward me. I thought he was coming for me, but he swerved and ran into the Dunne building.

Perhaps he was late for a meeting.

I crossed the street, heading toward the parking garage where I’d left my vehicle, when several more cop cars arrived with blaring sirens, pulling to a stop behind the initial cop car. The first responders all ran inside, dodging people on their way out.

I turned where I was and studied the building with a frown from the other side of the street, wondering what was happening. I hadn’t noticed anything wrong inside, but I’d been up on the twelfth floor, which was only halfway up. Any number of things could’ve been happening in the building. I itched to move because I had a dozen things on my task list to finish before I could call it a day, but my feet refused to budge.

An ambulance with flashing lights and a siren squealed to a stop. Paramedics rushed inside with a gurney.

There’s no way I’m leaving now, I thought as the seconds ticked by and became minutes.

So good

Dan writes very fast paced, complex stories. I loved it from the first to the last. He is one of those authors, where I want to read every single one of his books. I'm on a roll.

The Second Option

I'm sort of hoping this series won't end because I've become addicted, they're absolute page turner for me. I enjoy the pace, the characters and the detail and the story is well written and not all Mitch's thoughts are revealed I tip it is crunch time.

Great storyline and Great Title the author understands that in our Legal system the best lawyer usually wins despite guilt or innocents. Our legal system is governed by Politics, starting with the Police Department and ending with the Judge.
