A fool-proof gym plan from one of Hollywood's hottest trainers that acts like a Swiss army knife to sculpt your body in 12 weeks or less. Offering you multiple tools to achieve physical excellence, Peak Physique features a fully-illustrated, step-by-step progressive exercise plan of cardio and resistance training, which works whether you are male or female, a novice or experienced gym-goer. The book also gives you advice on nutrition and how to fuel your body for peak performance. From your transformative beginnings in Week 1 to the extraordinary tested and proven Week 12 reveal, you can take concrete steps toward achieving the body you've always wanted! Foreword by WWE Superstar Chris Jericho.
Peak Physique is going to be a good motivator for anyone not familiar with working out or healthy eating. It won't tell you anything new if you have a moderate to high knowledge of fitness training and eating a nutritious, balanced diet.
The photos are cringe-worthy with Liebman posing topless in the gym and looking like a deer caught in headlights in most photos - possibly a result of his restricted diet, which he explains was to be ready for the photos in this book.
I believe in inspiring people to be fit and look great and eat well because it feels fantastic and they will perform better in both physical and overall life challenges, but ultimately it is for themselves. Liebman suggests that when you get a craving, you both look in the mirror and decide if the way you look is how you would want your "social media" photo to look right now (puh-lease!) and to eat lettuce. Really?
I DO appreciate his explanation around insulin and combining high GI carbs with lean protein and healthy fat sources to ensure a stable blood sugar and prevent the wave of high energy and crushing fatigue as well as weight gain associated with refined carbs.
So I got this as a free book in kindle format and began reading it prepared to dismiss it as nothing more than a cross promoting ghost written pamphlet. I was pleasantly surprised that this was a lot more! Great instructions and useful photographs that were suitably aimed at beginners and the errantly motivated. The benefits to the gym regulars - a little less but still some useful pointers - more so than a PT who tried to negotiate a working relationship with me at the gym. An idea, as kindle moves on, perhaps the photos can be 5-30 second videos instead. I think I'll look for more of Hollis' work in the future.
