They appear innocent and loving, but it’s all a facade. The kids in this collection are pure evil. “Fuck Them Kids” takes you on a journey through ten terrifying stories. As you delve into the sick and twisted mind of Timothy King, you’ll encounter possessed teens, ghosts, murderers, and chilling tales of a world full of monstrous little bastards.
As soon as I saw the title of this collection, I was intrigued, because wow, what a title. 🤣 And no spoilers, but the title came into play in the BEST way at one point and it put the biggest smile on my face. If you don't mind reading stories mostly revolving around evil little kids doing terrible things to people (and sometimes getting punished for it), this was a really fun collection that I enjoyed a lot!
You know when you find a book that just hits that high note. I mean just look at the title – Fuck them kids, if that doesn’t scream creepy kids that deserve a bit of comuppance, then I don’t know what does!
Bury Your Demons – Well stab me in the heart and make me cry straight out of the gate, why don’t you, Mr King. Parents beware you’re in for a gutting!
The Valley of Missing Children – Creepy serial killer children. The happy ending nearly had me puking haha!
The Town – These kids have no chill, jesus christ on a bike!
The Empty Crib – My heart fell out of my ass quicker than a fart that you should not trust! In the House of the Devil- Love a good possession story and this had Regan vibes scattered throughout like a helping of scooby snacks.
The Dahlonega Reaper – Cryptids, cryptids, cryptids.
Blue Eyes – You’re going to want to engage your seatbelt real quick because this goes from Mary Poppins to Jeffrey Dahmer in the blink of an eye.
The Grotto – Mr King, this needs to be made into a longer story, I needed more, I have questions and you need to provide answers!
The Children’s Garden – My favourite story in the collection. The ending was simply *chef’s kiss*
The Man in the Window – You that feeling that passes along your spine? My grandmother used to say that was someone walking over your grave…yeah this is that story.
First, I’ve got to thank Timothy King once again for allowing me to be a part of Tim’s Terror Team and providing me with yet another great ARC. It’s a pleasure to dive into his work pre-release and give an advanced review.
This time around— it’s all about “fuck them kids!”
Fuck Them Kids is the first collected work by King. Consisting of ten creepy tales— they’re all about, well, creepy ass kids. This collection is a successfully solid mixed bag. There’s some demon possession, massacred children that haunt an abandoned daycare— teenage boys who take part in a wicked sacrifice, and even a gang of savage, murderous kids living in a town where adults don’t survive. The youths are ruthless in these tales, and there’s no letting up.
Entertaining, sinister, and a little gory would be the perfect way to describe these stories. The little ones are out for blood, and boy, does it really spill.
Timothy King knows how to keep you turning the page. His easy-going writing style still packs all the punch and delivers an ominous tone. Fuck Them Kids highlights his versatility and ability to create many storylines surrounding one theme. I’m pretty impressed. Just two books into his published writing career, and he’s truly a favorite.
My favorite stories were Bury Your Demons, The Man in the Window, The Children’s Garden, and The Town. But, there’s definitely something for everyone within the collection.
Overall, I had a good time with the book, though I may look at children sideways for a little while.
Oh, and if you have a little one or know a little one, and they stand at the foot of your bed in the middle of the night complaining about a man standing at their window— believe them.
You ever read a book of short stories and every one is your favorite until you read the next one? Yeah, me too, I just did. Seriously though, if I had to choose, I would say the last two were it for me. Kids are creepy man, fuck ‘em! 🫀🫀🫀🫀
Have you ever read something so amazing that when you finish it’s like you need a moment to grieve that it’s over? You just want more and you’ve become so invested in the story and the authors writing that it feels wrong to be done with it? That’s how this book feels. Timothy King is going to shock the world with his newest release coming out December 25th. It would have been an injustice to every single one of these stories had I not honored and credited each of them individually.
Easy 5 stars from me in this short story collection.
Bury Your Demons
“That,” she extended one trembling finger toward the kitchen. “Was not our baby girl. That was something else. Something evil.”
A strong start to this collection demanding the readers attention and grasp. If this story is any inclination of what’s to follow im in for a real treat. This story follows Keith and Susan, parents to 7 year old Charlotte who is now dead. But who is to blame? With the guise of a demon possessing their child what is a scared and isolated parent to do? Well, you’d hope get help… but for these parents that was not the case.
With this story you find yourself having sympathy, and hatred for every single character, a true roller coaster of emotions that I almost didn’t even want to get off.
The Valley of Missing Children
“Charlie raised his tiny hand and pointed at something behind her. “You followed him.” The boy whispered.”
A newly single mother escaping an abusive situation with her battered child in tow stop for some gas. When the mother asks for directions she’s given two options but is strongly advised to take one versus the other. To get to safety sooner, she disregards the advice, a decision that nearly cost herself and her son their lives in the Valley of Missing Children.
Tim has a way of tapping into parental fears in a hauntingly impressive way. This story did not lack in its ability to evoke anxiety and terror for the reader. Next time I ask for directions, I’ll be certain to heed the advice of the locals.
The Town
“There’s nothing to do in towns like this.” He shrugged his shoulders. “Little fucker is probably bored.”
Well … shit … fuck them kids. A group of friends set out for a beach getaway when they come across a seemingly desolate town, come to find out it’s not so desolate after all. The children have taken over and they’re on a he’ll mission to eradicate any and all adults from their town. This was a very unique yet fun read. I kept thinking I knew what was next but per usual I didn’t, I had a ton of fun with this one and the semi mute narrative from the boys added a huge spook factor for me. Could absolutely be elaborated on in the future to create a full book.
The Empty Crib
“Then he heard it. A baby crying in the nursery.”
These stories keep getting better and better. The nature of this story was hard to swallow and digest. I needed to take breaks and reflect and even reached out to Tim regarding how well constructed the story was. The story telling was exceptionally spot on, and only those who have been through certain things will truly understand and grasp the nightmare-esque horrors of this particular story. This one was chilling and brutal as we find 2 young first time parents dealing with returning home from the hospital to start their life over when they return empty handed and broken hearted.
In the House of the Devil
When a demon is quite literally hell bent on seducing the human world and possesses a teenage girl chaos is certain to ensue.
This story was fun, witty, thought provoking and unforgiving. Though typical ghost stories really aren’t my forte, Tim has a way of creating a story beyond just the target tropes. I thoroughly enjoyed this story just as well. The repertoire that Tim is building with this collection is rather impressive for a seemingly “newbie” author.
The Dahlonega Reaper
“Every fiber of his being begged him to kick this creepy little girl into the lake and run back inside.”
When a family vacation to the mountains takes a turn for the worst the entire family is faced with an adventure they never wanted in the fight of their lives. This one was fun. I could see it playing out in my mind as I read along, feeling the anxiety seeping through each page. A true nightmare of written word and any travelers worst fears. The descriptions and gore in this one did not hold back and the story was unforgiving and unflinching from the main goal, to truly spook the reader.
Blue Eyes
“Now I look like you, Mommy.”
Okay well that might’ve been the creepiest short of all short stories of ever… Beauty is pain right? But at what… or whose expense??? This story follows that of a mother putting her two daughters to bed for the night when her oldest takes her insecurities into her own hands to become more “beautiful”. This story was disturbing, and though I knew in my gut what was going to happen I desperately didn’t want it to. Ugh that was a trip.
The Grotto
‘The bigger the sacrifice, the bigger the reward.’
4 boys sneak out into the night in search of a hidden mausoleum where sacrificial offerings were said to be exchanged for the granting of any wish. Unfortunately one boy learns the hard way that friends aren’t always who they seem. If there’s one thing, (and there are MANY), that Timothy King does exceptionally well it is mastering teenage dialogue. His voice is wonderful and unique among all the characters he writes. From his debut, Seven Rabbits to now with FTK this is a very apparent detail to his writing. Tim takes you directly into the scene with his use of banter and snark between his antagonists. Truly another well written and plotted out story.
The Children’s Garden
“You’re never leaving The Children’s Garden.”
A group of curious explorers looking to create a documentary in a daycare where the unthinkable are faced with … the unthinkable. This story was incredibly anxiety provoking and had a profound feeling of impending doom through the entire story. Tim’s scene descriptions were immaculate in reproducing the words in the readers mind.
The Man in the Window
“He said he wanted to be my daddy now!” A widowed father to a young boy faces a serious nightmare when his son claims he sees a man outside his window in the middle of the night. This was a hell of a way to wrap up the collection. And I won’t let it go unnoticed that my name is in there too, I’ll say it was purposeful to boost my own ego. I’ve said it time and time again with this collection but I truly am left feeling a bit of grief that this was the last story. I devoured this final story and truly enjoyed it as well as the horrific pit it forms in your stomach while reading it
My vote for 2024’s “book title most likely to make your Aunt Gertrude clutch her pearls & drop dead,” Timothy King’s Fuck Them Kids collection will definitely get your attention. In this world/business, whatever gets your foot in the door. Amirite? Besides, Aunt Gertrude’s heart was a ticking time bomb. If it wasn’t an intrepid book title that took her out, it probably would have been when she found out Red Lobster was closing. Enough about Aunt Gertrude & her mustache tho, we are here to talk about some fucked up stories about some fucked up kids.
King (the only one who doesn’t bore me to death, zing!) really did give us a wide range of stories that won’t necessarily make you rethink your family planning, they’ll just creep the fuck out of you. Maybe it’s their sticky little hands, or their abundance of grey matter, or the fact they get all the cool backpacks…kids have just always weirded me out. Timothy capitalized on this & upped the ante, delivering some actually terrorizing notions that I would have been happier never thinking of, ever. From local folklore that will have you looking over your shoulder more often, to the antics of rambunctious kids conjuring an ancient evil, to revisiting childhood traumas & having to face what would be waiting for you. He runs the gamut, & even throws in a story about a crib that pulls at your parental heart-strings, (which you weren’t aware you had any of?) that ends horribly brutal. If you read Seven Rabbits, you know what you’re in for. Yes, the man is going to fuck us up all over again. And if you haven’t read it, you should because it’s one of the best new slashers out right now. First Tim said Fuck Them Teenagers with his debut, now he said Fuck Them Kids. I’m just glad he’s leaving us grownups alone. 👀
First off, the title is absolutely EVERYTHING!!!!! Ummm, these are some scary, crazy ass kids man! You can’t go wrong reading any of the stories that are in this collection. They are creepy, emotional, dark, bloody, and a beautiful hot ass mess! You may want to check your triggers if you have any because the topics in some of these are heavy! I absolutely loved this collection of crazy kids, I think I want more of these wild stories, haha!
I was excited when I heard about fuck then kids! I was intrigued by the premises sounded intriguing and it was a fun time! I had to take a moment to take it in once I had finished this short story collection. Some of my favorites were The Dahlonega Reaper , The Grotto , The Children’s Garden , The Town
When I heard about this collection, I was super excited. Tim delivered by giving us 10 stories of some creepy ass kids. From violent to paranormal, fuck them kids! A perfect title to an excellent collection. 2 of my stand outs stories are the following.
Blue Eyes: it's the normal bedtime ritual for Marian. Brushing one of her daughters' knotted hair, she notices just how similar she looks like her. She has the most beautiful blue eyes. Elsa, her other daughter, is extremely jealous she has brown and not blue eyes. Marian tells her she's still beautiful, but Elsa isn't listening. Elsa will do anything for blue eyes. - I loved this one and lot! It showed innocence while being vile. This one's a top for me!
The Grotto: 3 boys have heard of the witch who grants your wish as long as you offer a sacrifice. One night, they head to the graveyard with Samuel, a nerdy boy, to do the ritual. The boys tell Samuel to bring the witch an offering, but what they don't tell him is his actual role in the night. There are also rules to abide by once the ritual has started or consequences will happen. - Another banger from Tim! This story made me mad but left me satisfied at the end. Also left with wanting more. Bullies will always pay the price!
Overall, this was a fun, and great short story collection! An honourable mention goes to Bury Your Demons. It's the first story in the book and was released earlier this year. A husband is left miserable over his wifes actions. It haunts him until that action comes back to hurt him. I also want to point out the very last story, the very last 4 words, I see what you did there Tim and I appreciated it! Release date is December 25th, 2024. Grab your copy! Excellent job Tim!
An absolutely stellar collection of stories revolving around creepy kids! An image in my mind’s eye from the very first story still haunts me as I write my review and was one of the most effective horror scenes for me this year. Fans of Timothy King’s “Seven Rabbits” will be pleased to hear that King can pack just as much of an emotional punch in his short stories as in his novels, and the scenes of action and violence are written excellently and move at a fast clip. Timothy King is one of my top new authors to watch out for, and I can’t wait to read more!! Thank you so much to the author for providing a review copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
Fuck Them Kids was LEGIT everything I hoped it would be. Let's be honest there are definitely some creepy kids.... especially in this book. Each tale is just as good as the one before. Definitely check your triggers before reading since some stories may be more sensitive topics to some. Blue Eyes is probably one of my favorites of these. Stoked to have been an ARC reader for this and to continue reading more from Timothy.
The title really does say it all! D@mn creepy a$$ kids!!!
Timothy King does it again! He paid homage to a few classics but fed those classics steroids for breakfast! Screw every single one of these kids because f*ck all that!!!
ARC Review of FTK by Timothy King, a collection of horror stories Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Releases: Christmas Day (12/25) available for preorder now
Kids are creepy, even as a mother myself, kids do some really creepy shit. Fuck Them Kids is a short story collection highlighting a whole lot of creepy kids with a story for everyone. This collection explores all themes and many different subgenres of horror. These stories will make your skin crawl AND have you in your feels (or at least I was 🤣😅)
I’ll start off by highlighting three stories in the collection that stuck out to me the most:
The Empty Crib — Omg, as a mother this story was HEARTBREAKING but also so very creepy. Check your triggers, this story was short but a rough read. A couple heads home from the hospital after experiencing the greatest loss.
Blue Eyes — Okay I think this story creeped me out the most out of the entire collection because, wtf???? A woman has two daughters, one is blue eyed, the spitting image of her. The second has brown eyes, and no matter how many times her mother has told her how beautiful they are, she’s determined to find a way to change her eye color, by any means possible.
The Valley of Missing Children — A woman escapes a difficult situation with her son, she decides to take the fast route to Pittsburgh and quickly regrets having to pass through the infamous valley of missing children. Creepy read with a surprisingly happy ending (after all the trauma, I could appreciate that 🤣)
Overall this was an incredible collection of shorts, King nailed it, as always! I enjoyed each story thoroughly, there wasn’t one bad apple in the bunch. If you haven’t preordered yet, you should!
Timothy King's debut short horror story collection has the disturbing and provocative title "Fuck Them Kids" for a reason: the ten tales within take the creepy kid horror trope and dip it into any other horror trope you might think of - demonic possession, evil doppelgangers, folk horror, baby ghosts, budding serial killers, cunning shape shifters, even 'children of the corn' small town horror. This means that the kids starring in these stories are bad seeds, evil f*cks, sinister psychopaths, and wicked sociopaths. The settings vary widely: schools, daycare, a house in the woods, a deserted town, a backyard. Don't expect redemption, mercy, or sweet little angels cuddling with their parents. In fact, the parents (and the adults in general) are the victims here instead of the perpetrators, and, deservedly or not, they suffer all kinds of tragic ends. Every story kicks ass, but King pulls no punches and both gore and violence spill off the page aplenty! Still, most of the stories should be read tongue-in-cheek, since even the goriest ones combine cruelty with a very dark undertone of humor (be it banter, absurd imagery or a bizarre comeuppance). So, there's no reference to themes such as school shootings, for example, or any portrayal of sexual abuse. The tales aim to entertain, and amplify the horror through evil looks, betrayal of trust, vulgarity, and unnerving kid behavior. The author succeeds in this brilliantly, and before you know it you'll have devoured the book in one sitting!
I gave each of the 10 stories in this collection 5 stars. I wish I could give more than 5. I loved them so much so I'm going to give a few words for each story. 1. Bury Your Demons: Oh Lord! Poor Keith! I read this a couple months ago and it still haunts me 2. In the House of the Devil: Exorcisms are the worst! I was really rooting for Keilan. Also, the end! Are you kidding me??? It is 100% not over. Where did he go??? 3. The Empty Crib: Hubby definitely got what he deserved. It was heartbreaking until the very last sentence. Now my skin is crawling. 4. Blue Eyes: Oh. My. God! Man, these last sentences really get me. But is Anna ok???? I don't think I will ever be able to watch Frozen again without thinking of this story. 5. The Dahlonega Reaper: "It's hard to breathe without lungs." What???? Always listen to the backwoods gas station attendant. The black bile vomit scene almost took me out...just gross. 6. The Man in the Window: My skin is crawling. Jordan and Jarvis have a cute and loving relationship which makes the ending that much worse (in a good way) 7. The Valley of Missing Children: Always. Listen. To. The. Gas. Station. Attendant. That is all. This one is my favorite I think. It's a toss up between this and Bury Your Demons. 8. Grotto: The witch is just taking out the trash. 9. The Children Garden: Well, that was terrifying. 10. The Town: These kids are psycho.
TK knocking it out of the park again! I read Seven Rabbits and it’s one of my fave reads of the year. When he was asking for people to check this book out, I jumped at the chance.
The title does really sum it up well but there’s so much more here. All 10 stories are creepy as hell! There is just always something about the extra sinister feel when a sweet and innocent child turns out to be the thing of your nightmares. Something very cool about TK’s writing is his ability to make his stories anxiety ridden from jump. Especially impressive in shorter stories. There is some good gore, but nothing too crazy! Possessions, ghosts, evil, revenge… these kids are mad!
A couple stories stick out to me, although I loved them all.
👶🏼The Empty Crib (please, check your triggers) is not only creepy as hell, but it carries a weight of dread, despair and grief. One of those stories where you just know there will never be a happy ending.
🥀The Children Garden was the one that had me the most freaked out. So many times I could feel goosebumps because I was SCARED. Had the reminder that no matter how much I want to check out an old abandoned building, I’m not gonna. Not even for a documentary that would make me money!
It was fun to snag this ARC and I will be getting the physical copy ordered when it comes out on December 25th!
Timothy King did not disappoint with this short story collection involving kids.
When asked by the author if I wanted to ARC read Fuck Them Kids, obviously my answer was a very enthusiastic YES. If you know me, you know Seven Rabbits is one of my favorite reads this year and I’m very excited to follow the career of this talented author.
There are 10 stories in this collection, and they are all solid reads. The author has a way of pulling you in immediately with each story and getting straight to the good stuff. There’s so much variety, too. We’ve got demons, witches, shapeshifters, and just downright bad or creepy kids. In some of the stories you’ll be scared for the children and in some scared of them. They were all unique and had satisfying endings. I would have loved for some to be longer, but I’m very impressed with how much he was able to pack into so few pages.
My favorite of the bunch would have to be The Town, followed by The Valley of Missing Children. Also really loved Blue Eyes and The Grotto. Those are the standouts for me, but there wasn’t a bad story in the entire collection.
Fuck Them Kids by Timothy King releases on Christmas Day. Consider this your present from the indie horror community, I guess!
10 tales of horror, viscera, monsters and disembodied voices, all of which revolve around…you guessed it…children. Children are creepy. We all know this. With the sinister singing, the constant sticky hands (how are they always sticky?!) and a penchant for brutal honesty, there is no escaping it. With this collection, Timothy leans into it: with some of the single most terrifying children I have ever experienced in print. And I have read Roald Dahl.
From a heartbreaking loss and ghostly crying in The Empty Crib pulling at your heart until you need a few minutes to recover, to The Town which is an urban Lord of the Flies, this collection is stunning. Every story is dark, twisted and has an amazing build up of atmosphere, it’s almost unfair how much talent is contained in each of the 10 stories. Timothy has proven already that he is a gifted writer, and he shines in this stunning collection. So this Christmas, treat yourself to this collection that will have you saying “Fuck them kids”.
Let me start by saying, I’m glad I never want to have kids.. 😅
But really this collection was awesome and included a variety of horror that kept me very entertained throughout. In these stories you’ll find demonic possession, ghosts, folk horror, small town horror, and more. The author did a great job of pulling me in with each story and kept me guessing at what would happen next.
I really enjoy King’s writing and the way he makes you feel all while being scared. These stories are creepy and sinister yet emotional at the same time.
My favorites are The Empty Crib, The Dahlonega Reaper, and The Valley of Missing Children.
This is my first read by TImothy King and it will not be my last. There is not a bad story in the bunch!
Thank you to the author for letting me be a part of Tim’s Terror Team and providing an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
4.5⭐️ rounded up! This collection of stories are both frightening and fun. While I enjoyed some more than others, almost all of these were 5 star stories.
One of my favorite things about T King’s writing style is the ease at which he sets the scene. You’re immediately engrossed in each story and feel like you’re right there with the MCs, experiencing their fearful encounters.
My favorites would have to be The Valley of Missing Children, Bury Your Demons, and In the House of the Devil. While I expected all of these to include some form of evil or wicked children, I was pleasantly surprised at how unique each one was. They maintained the theme without the boredom of repetition. Horror fans, you’re going to love this one!
These were a fun set of stories about kids doing some really bad things or those being victimized by other children. Trust me the title isn't just there to look good, these stories are quite disturbing, which equates to them being very good, hehe. The following were my absolute favorites.
- Blue Eyes - The Valley of Missing Children - The Grotto - The Town
Perhaps my favorite story was The Town, but you can't go wrong with any story in the collection. All I can say is kids aren't saints all the time. As Timothy has shown us here, children might just be the worst people in the world. Read this at your own risk. Plenty of fun to be had with this one as long as you don't mind kids being killers, hehe.
Timothy King is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. His debut novel, Seven Rabbits, blew me away. And now, these short stories prove that he can write both novels and short stories. Full of everything from possessed kids to regular kids scaring the hell out of you, this collection is a must read for any horror fan! Each story I read, I kept thinking would be my favorite, and then the next would get even more intense and fast paced. These stories had me on the edge of my seat, my heart pounding, and I read the whole collection in one sitting. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would! Not many books have given me nightmares, but this one did! Highly recommend everyone read this one. ***Trigger Warning-One story deals with loss of a child/pregnancy.
But absolutely bloody at the same time, so the best combo. This could have gone way too campy or silly and really ruined the vibe, but on this one Timothy managed to toe it, and come up a gory little thrill ride.
I had a few favorites, The Man in the Window, and The Town.
Both were dark and weird, but I couldn't wait to see the last page and find out , what was going on .
Yeah yeah yeah i know, we have to save the kids, but sometimes, those book kids, they deserve it right?
This was creepy and scratched a dark itch, as soon as i saw this cover i knew, i needed to read this.
One thing I’m normally not a fan of is anthologies -ONLY because those short stories leave me LONGING for more! But this was amazing! The title is literal *chef’s kiss* and leaves the reader repeating it in their head for days after reading these beyond horrific tales! Each story was so unique, but with the common theme of “kids are evil af”. Standouts for me were the starting story “Bury your Demons” followed by “In The House of the Devil” because I love a good exorcist story! And the finale- “The Town” ugh so so good!!!! This author just came on the scene the past year & keeps getting better and better!!
Come, sit, let me tell you about this most recent bit of perfection from one of my auto-buy authors.
This is a collection of creepy stories and, as I'm sure you can guess by the title, they all revolve around creepy ass kids. King does a great job of diving into your worst little kid-related nightmares and making them worse. I really enjoyed that each story was terrifying in a different way, ranging from the most wild of imaginable nightmares to the most terrifyingly plausible ones.
As with all of King's writing, I could not put this down and finished it in about a day. From the first story to the last perfect line, this book had me glued to the pages.
“What happened to the rest of the kids?” He asked. Amanda shook her head. “Man, fuck them kids.”
You'll be saying that as well when you read this collection of short horror stories, all featuring not-so-innocent children! But what's the worst these little brats can do? 🤷 Find out for yourself!
My favorites were: The Empty Crib Blue Eyes The Dahlonega Reaper The Town
I enjoyed these stories and will definitely be reading more from this author.
