While dashing through the airport, four siblings (aged 5 through 15) pass through the wrong gate and find themselves transported to a different place in-between world that links all the many realms of the cosmosEven if they wanted to go back to their parents in the real world, that decision is taken out of their hands when the bridge home is destroyed behind them. They have no choice but to move forward and explore the nilands of Overtwixt, strange floating islands linked by countless bridges -- stone bridges and rope bridges and winding staircases and soaring arches, every kind of bridge imaginable, and more besides.
And towering above them all, the imposing fortress niland of Twixt itself... where the Vizier rules with an iron fist, turning bridge after bridge into rubble so the peoples of Overtwixt can never escape.
Confronted with this strange new world -- and the evil that threatens to destroy it -- the four siblings must answer the same question all new visitors to Overtwixt will YOU choose to be?

A great read for fantasy lovers who enjoy magical worlds and exciting adventures!
Cecilie, Ewan, Amelie, and Nachton, 4 teen siblings get lost at the Atlanta airport and end up in Overtwixt, a world of floating islands also known as nilands. The villain Vizier, also a human from their world, broke the bridges. To go home, they have to defeat Vizier and rebuild the bridges.
It's a very strange place where time passes differently at different places. People have animal-like bodies in the shape of horse or bats or dragons but they can still talk and think like humans. There are no animals here. This place has 5 fundamental laws. There's no blood, only yellow puff replacing the blood. One cannot be killed in Overtwixt.
In Overtwixt, these siblings choose to be a Knight, Princess, Empress, and Loremaster. Ewan, who chooses to be the Knight learns riding and sword fighting. Empress Amelie has to unite the people from other islands against Vizier. Loremaster Nachton spends months in the library, gains knowledge of this place, learns magic and the fundamental laws of Overtwixt. He gets to know that there are some ancient magical relics like Diamond sword, armour and eyeglass lens which can multiply one's power only if they are used for the greater good. With efforts, they acquire the armour and lens but the sword still lies with Vizier however the sword cannot multiply Vizier's power since he is evil.
Vizier is still unaware of these 4 siblings. The siblings along with their allies plan a surprise attack on Vizier.
It's a really exciting story from page 1. You'll want these kids to quickly find a way to get back home but their adventurous journey is filled with unexpected twists and dangers.
Story follows 4 teen siblings. Cecilie(8),Ewan(5), Amelie(12) and Nachton who iz somewhere below 15 years old. They are at the Atlanta airport with their mom and dad rushing to catch their plane. The kids get lost in the busy airport and accidentally go through the wrong gate and suddenly find themselves in a strange place called Overtwixt.
Overtwixt is made of floating islands, and everything is connected by bridges. However all the bridges are destroyed by the new ruler Vizier who's the villain of story.
To return to their normal world, these kids will have to rebuild the bridge that brought them to Overtwixt. This means they'll have to attack and overthrow the evil Vizier, who currently sits on the throne and prevents them from going home.
These kids are also given a choice, a question that all visitors to Overtwixt must answer: Who will they choose to be in this strange new world? Ewan chooses to become the Knight, Cecilie- princess, Amelie -Empress and Nachton chooses to become Loremaster. They have to faithfully follow the role they chose.
They become friends with other people of Overtwixt who guides them navigate this strange place. These people are not humans though, they're animal-like creatures who are capable of talking and thinking just like humans. The only human besides these 4 siblings is Vizier himself and he's from the same world these 4 kids have come from. That's what makes these 4 siblings uniquely qualified to face Vizier.
These siblings are now on a mission to defeat the Vizier and rebuild the bridges which will take them back home.
The storyline revolves majorly around siblings of the Ollivaros family - Cécilie Ollivaros(8), Ewan(5), elder sister Amelie and older brother Nachton when they were about to board a plane but suddenly their surroundings take a blip, and land in the woods called Overtwixt where all parallel universes intersect and made up of nilands. Herein they are greeted by a strange creature called Guide who is a centaur(half human and half horse, and assigns them the mission to overthrow Vizier.
2 things which require special mention are the Illustrations which provide visual treat for the reader while the intricate details presented by the author such as the map, ancient language of High Estopian and Unterstygian presents author R.L.Akers to delve deeper into the story and understand its relevance, thereby reflecting the depth of author's thought. The writing ensures to grab the reader's attention taking him to the last of the 349 page as the story unfurls a new twist and exploration of the new world.
"Cows go moo while they chew; you look nice so I pick you" Never did I thought that this rhyme by Cecilie would stay with me even after completing it but the point where the story ends makes me eager to grab the next book as soon as possible for what beholds next.
The story is all about Cécilie Ollivaros (8), Ewan (5), elder sister Amelie, and older brother Nachton at the time of their flight. They suddenly find themselves surrounded by silence, and they land in the forest known as Overtwixt, the point at which all parallel worlds meet and consist of nilands. They encounter an even strange being known only as a Guide, which describes itself as a centaur (part man and part horse), charged with the task of toppling Vizier.
Two things which are very qualifying for honorable mention are the Illustrations which give visual treat to the reader while the detailed information given by the author such as the map, ancient language of High Estopian, and Unterstygian is such that puts the reader through to know R.L.Akers more in the story to understand its significance. Thus, it shows depth into the author's thought. The writing surely promises to take the readers to the end of the 349th page because it introduces new travel in and overview discovery of this new world.
"Cows moo while they chew; you look nice, so I pick you." I never dreamed this would remain from Cecilie. The ending though, leaves me with a desire to read the next book immediately because of what is in store beyond this point.
Four teen siblings, Cecilie, Ewan, Amelie, and Nachton, are at the Atlanta airport with their parents. Accidentally they go through the wrong gate and suddenly find themselves in Overtwixt, a strange world made up of floating islands. These islands used to be connected by bridges, but an evil ruler named Vizier has destroyed them all. To get back home, the kids need to rebuild the bridge that brought them to Overtwixt. That means they have to defeat Vizier, who's not just mean, but also powerful.
Luckily, the kids aren't alone. They meet some amazing creatures in Overtwixt who partially look like animals but can talk and think just like humans. These creatures become their friends and guides, helping them navigate this strange new world. Vizier is also a human, and he's from the same world as the kids. So, the four siblings are determined to defeat Vizier, rebuild the bridges, and find their way back to their family. Their goal is clear but it's not that simple and straight. Plus, Overtwixt is a strange and unfamiliar place. Even with their animal-like friends, the siblings will have to learn the rules of this new world and navigate its dangers.
This is the story of 4 siblings Ewan, Cecilie, Nachton, Amelie. Unknowingly they got transported to Overtwixt, a different world, made of islands and connected through bridges. They're afraid in this unknown world. All they want is to go back to their real world but it seems almost impossible. They're just new in this world and they're being told that the only way to return to home is rebuilding the bridges. Now the problem is, Vizier the villain of this story won't let this happen. He want all creatures remain trapped in Overtwixt so he gets to exploit them.
The half-horse half-human called Guide helps these siblings understand the basics of this world. Further they meet other creatures who are also stuck in this world. But nobody looks like them. All these creatures have partial body of an animal and remaining of human. Only Vizier is the human in this place except these 4 siblings.
These siblings start to explore and understand this world. They accept the challenge of defeating Vizier because that's the only way they will get to go home. But Vizier is dangerous beyond their imagination. And this world is mysterious beyond their understanding.

Overtwixt is the best thing there is. The world-building is quite immersive, and the details are excellent. I thought all of this was incredibly amazing, to the point where it truly allowed me to see everything inside my head. In addition to being enjoyable to read, I found the storys arcs to be really fascinating, with the protagonists or rather, the villains, as they want to be called developing in a variety of fascinating ways. Even with the villain's evolution, I could definitely feel the anxiety in this scene. One of the motivations to continue reading is, in fact, the action, mystery, and drama. In fact, the pictures were both terrible and lovely. Their presence alone made the reading experience much more enjoyable. It promises to give a killer blend, so call it richly braided for the admirer of fantasy mixed with thrillers. Despite being set in a very vividly conceived universe, the reader is eagerly awaiting the following chapter, which will reveal even more breathtaking views.
There is nothing better than overtwixt. The details are top-notch, and the world-building is most immersive. To the extent that it actually made me see everything inside my mind, I found all of this really super. Not only is it fun to read, with the protagonists, or rather villains, however they prefer to be looked at, developing in so many interesting ways during the story, I find their arcs super intriguing. I could clearly feel the tension here even about the villain's development? The action, mystery, and drama is indeed one of the reasons to keep reading thus far. Actually, the illustrations were both beautiful and horrifying. They enhanced the reading experience, making it so much better just by being there. Call it richly woven for the thriller-combined-with-fantasy lover; it promises to deliver some killer mix. While it is set in an extremely well-imagined world, the reader just can't wait for the next part of the story-opening up vast new vistas from there.
This book is an absolute must-read! Although fantasy isn’t typically my or my husband's go-to genre, we were eager to dive into it.
The story centers around the main characters, who are inspired by the author's own children. They find themselves unexpectedly transported to a fantastical universe that mirrors their own. With a bit of guidance from a wise centaur, they band together to overthrow the evil tyrant ruling Overtwixt and, hopefully, return home to their parents.
R.L.'s vivid descriptions of the different worlds in Overtwixt allowed us to easily visualize the "island countries" or nilands. From the water world with its dolphin-like inhabitants to a dark, tunnel-filled world inhabited by bat-like creatures, each land felt unique, with rich sensory details that made us feel like we were right there alongside the characters.
We love a good story that pits good against evil, and this one delivers in spades. It’s the kind of book that can be enjoyed by readers of all ages, and we found it thoroughly engaging from start to finish.
Overall, this was a thoroughly enjoyable read, and we highly recommend it!
This second book in the series is an absolutely mind-blowing experience! The world building is so rich and detailed that I could visualize everything perfectly. Following the four siblings on their journey was a thrill especially as each one discovered their own unique strengths. But this one goes beyond their journey and shows an emotional turmoil between them as one of them seemed to have gone forever. The tension was intense and even the villain's arc was compelling. The mix of drama mystery and action kept the story fresh and engaging from start to finish. And that artwork just stunning! It made the reading experience even more immersive. With its unpredictable twists, vivid setting, and intriguing characters Overtwixt is a must read fantasy I can't wait to return to this fascinating world.

"I've read many fantasy stories, but this one was different. Imagine a world where you get to choose who you are, which means you get to choose a role from the given 3 options and then that becomes your identity. You actually have to live upto and act according to that role. Your life is determined by the role you chose and the way you act upon it. It sounds like a game, doesn't it? But for Ewan, Amelie, Cecilie, and Nachton, it was real and unimaginable as they land up in a strange world with such strange rules and creatures. The way to get back home are bridges which connects this strange world to the real-normal world but these bridges are destroyed by the Evil ruler of this world.
Extremely intriguing story. The world is described so well, you feel like you're walking through it.
This story resonates with a fundamental truth of human psychology: when faced with impossible odds, individuals often discover their hidden strengths and abilities.
Four siblings, ordinary children trapped in a bizarre realm, their only desire to return to the real world ASAP. But the return is possible only if they dethrone the cruel ruler of this place, Vizier.
Cecelie, Ewan, Nachton, Amelie are just kids. They cannot even consume the idea of defeating a big ruler. But what other choice do they have ? They have no other option than fighting with their enemy. Afterall it's the matter of their survival, their return to their home. They're in a do or die situation, either fight or remain forever trapped in this dangerous place called Overtwixt.
