Simply because your world collides with a shooting star doesn’t mean that’s a sign, does it?

Cooper Davis has a nice life he’s quite fond of. He has a wonderful family, good friends, and a job he excels at. He is protector, guardian, but most of all, as his boss always says, everyone needs to be better off once he leaves. The issue is, when he’s asked to watch over the actor Ashford Lennox, he’s not sure that leaving is what he wants to do.

Ashford Lennox is a movie star on the rise. He has everything he’s ever wanted, except someone to love and call his own. He’s learned over the years that home is not a place but sharing a life with one special person you can count on. When he meets the man tasked with keeping him safe during a wedding, it’s like a lightning bolt. Suddenly he can see his whole future unfolding.

Being on the same page is an epiphany for both, now if they could just make it to the happily ever after without getting shot…

Mary Calmes was one of my early favorite M/M romance authors. I think I have read and now own, almost everything she had on the market at that time...somehow, I missed this series...although Torus Intersessions was mentioned in some of the other series. I'm making up now for lost time and of course I'm reading them out of order. Is anyone surprised?

We join Cooper Davis right at the start. He's at the airport on his way to Maine for a wedding. Cooper is the epitome of a "fixer"...that's what the men at Torus are called...they "FIX" situations and people and always with a big smile. Sounds better than saying you are hiring a bodyguard:) Cooper wasn’t thrilled with this assignment. He's supposed to be protecting an actor and pretending to be his plus one for the weekend for a very wet and very, very cold, Maine wedding. Then Cooper learns that his client is THE actor, Asher, who we met in the book, You Never Know when he was just getting his big break in Hollywood and confused and hurt over his then boyfriend, Hagen, choosing his ex-boyfriend Mitch. This book takes us forward a few years and Ash is now a BIG film star who has won Oscars.

It was instant lust as soon as they met, and it was decided that Cooper would be his plus one also in a shared room as well as at the wedding. Ash has insecurities in this book, his fear of commitment, his loneliness, wanting and having someone to call his, but he soon learns that Cooper isn't just a fixer, he was also a carer and a provider making him perfect for Ash. This was the kind of book you just wanted to go on and on. I intend to see that for me it does go on and on...as soon as Amazon delivers my other 5 books in the series. YEAH PRIME!

Any book that is getting me out of my long-lasting reading slump can't get less than 4 stars. Don't know what it is about Mary but I felt comfortable right from the start. I don't remember much from the other Torus books but that's also not necessary because she's sprinkling her magic and it's like coming home. Doesn't matter that at first it's a lot of talking between Cooper and Ash and that their business relation is highly unprofessional right from the start. How could I not enjoy their light banter when Cooper while being a terrible bodyguard is the epitome of a fixer with charming dominance and a big heart and Ash his partner in crime and the possessive one right from the start. While the story meanders in the well-tried Calmes way, collecting the supporting female characters (this time even a 2 years old can't resist the ML's charm) and flowing through various stops of past experiences, there's never time to get bored or rolling your eyes sincerely. Doesn't even matter much that the “mystery” makes no sense. that big parts of the story still feel like the fever dream Mary was talking about in her intro and that I still wonder about the Torus business case where a client isn't charged if he falls in love and an employee nevertheless earns enough to afford a Tom Ford suit … but really, who's reading a Mary Calmes' novel with a reality check list in mind?

Ok, so yeah. I had plans to re-read You Never Know since Mary got it back and re-released it. Thing is, I’ve read it twice and didn’t like it all that much. Then this was released, and this was new, so I decided if I’m going to read a Mary book, it’s going to be something new and something I have a chance of liking or loving.

So, I started this and I’m turning pages and BOOM!! I suddenly realized who I was reading about and almost full stopped this read so I could go re-read You Never Know so I had all the facts in my head.

Then, I decided no, I’m going to finish this and then go back and do a re-read of something that bugged the Hell out of me with a different perspective.

Sorry for the brain dump but this new perspective is giving me crazy thoughts and I’m dying to see what I think about Ash now. I don't think he was my issue, but I love having this new outlook.

I don’t know what it is about this series of Fixers falling in love that just works for me, as it seems, every time. This is the 2nd time there has been a sort of celebrity in the mix, which usually does not work for me, but again, it did. These two were so freaking cute and their instant attraction, like, respect, whatever totally worked for me. But the best part of the entire thing were all the little connections that Mary drops in so freaking well. I loved the Vault mention and of course, getting to see some of the previous fallen Fixers.

Good stuff!

Oh My God! There is insta love and then there is Insta-pot insta love! Too fast - too smooth and characters too simple.
I am use to Mary Calms recycling character types but these characters were flat and the story confusing. I would be reading along and then WHAM. Story line disappears - where the hell am I. Stop - get it figured out - get going again and BAM - WTF - I am lost again. And the non stop talking - and confusing conversation. The MCs went from "Hello nice to meet you" to instant love to psycho possession. Just no. 2.5/5

Cooper and Ash

Look, if you're a Mary Calmes fan, you'll probably love this, like I did devouring it in less than a day. If you don't, I don't think this is going to be the one to change your mind.

Bodyguard who's supposed to be playing a fake boyfriend and instead becomes instant love at first sight. It's hot, fast, and fun.

Cooper and Ash !

Torus Intercession sent Cooper to help Ash, being his plus one at a wedding !

Cooper, tall, brave, strong and has a big heart. He’s a fixer, his aim is to leave folks better than they were.
Ashford Lennox, a sculpted physique, green eyes, black hair, is a movie star, who wants a love of his own.

First, Cooper helps Benji and Owen, then Coop must go to the wedding with Ash and keep him safe. It turns out it’s more than just a wedding.

We begin at the airport scene that shows us Cooper’s actions and he is spectacular ! At the wedding venue, he jumps right in to be the best “boyfriend” ever. These two are fantastic together.

Ash‘s family is a mixed bag of unique characters. Yikes !

Our couple learn more about each other in talks and their sexy times are super sizzling, and emotions are sparked, too.

We have a nasty ex, some criminals make an appearance also, so it’s not smooth sailing at this series of event filled extravaganzas.

I loved Coop and Ash so much. Gosh they are terrific together.

We get catty relatives, action packed excitement with a gun and “nerf bat” to the rescue.

We get witty banter, hot lovin’ and we learn much more about everyone.

The criminal wrap up is big, and our guys need to express their true feelings.

Highly recommended!
ENJOY !

This story is lots of sex and stupidity. A wonderfully charming and captivating Cooper, an awesome secondary family, and oodles of plot nonsense with Ash there to be hot, benevolent and enchanted.

In the intro, Calmes states ". . .this book came out like a fever dream that had to be wrangled a bit.", and I definitely believe it. Only, wrangling it “a bit” might be why the story still fills like a fever dream in terms of some of the non-romance plot elements.

Cooper is terrible at his job; the brain power of some law enforcement barely better; and the danger is unbearably absurd. Lampshading the ridiculousness doesn’t always make it ok. There are quite a few callbacks to characters and situations I enjoyed so there’s that. I wish Cooper had a less janky cover image, a less generic love interest, and a less unbalanced storyline, but what can you do? At least he's better off than Hayden.

It's always great when...

...two side characters get their happy ever after. Not too long ago I did a reread of the book You Never Know and was reacquainted with Ashford Lennox, so this was a joy to see his name again and have him find "the one." Cooper Davis, doing what he does best, fixing peoples' lives, does what most of Jared Colter's men do, fix the life of the one that they end up with.

In typical Mary Calmes' fashion, a whirlwind of a romance, with always a twist thrown in. Fun side characters including the cutest little girl, and a disaster of a wedding to boot.

You know exactly what you’re getting when you read a Mary Calmes book, and boo six in this series is no different! There’s an element of insta-love (or more love with intense like) and I really appreciated how open and honest both male leads were with how they felt – from the moment they met, Cooper and Ash were utterly out there with each other and it was refreshing.

The normal case of fun characters, along with a hateful ex, and a background plot that included murder, fraud and international issues, and this was an enjoyable romp that was exactly what I was in the mood for!

Every reader has comfort reads and comfort authors. Mary Calmes is one of mine. She’s happily ever after. I know her heroes without even looking at her name on the cover. They’re highly competent in their abilities, gorgeous (whether they acknowledge it or not), full of warmth and kindness, especially for a certain inner circle of people. They shine.

And fall in love, usually deeply , quickly and forever. And Calmes makes a great story for their romantic journey to the point we believe in them.

They are fixers in a highly specialized agency, Torus Intercession, which has a unique and often powerful clientele. But the fixers themselves often have need of fixing as much as the people they are hired to work with. And the romance between them is quick, combustible, and as memorable as the men themselves.

I definitely have my favorites in the series. And while Get A Fix might not be quite at that level, I definitely enjoyed this story and the couple. It’s very close.

That’s due to Cooper Davis, the Torus fixer. I fell in love with him as he helped Ainsley Cushing, mom to big brood and having airport meltdown along with Gemma, 2, at the Bangor International Airport. Its there we got to know him, watch him interact with Gemma,2, fill a overwhelmed Ainsley about himself as he helps her get her stroller and get back together before meeting up with her husband coming in on the next flight.

There’s sequence after sequence of heartwarming moments, real and genuine in their ability to ground us in this character and the family we will get to know better.

Ashford Lennox appears at the wedding location, an Inn that’s not exactly what the bride or anyone else expects. Under construction, ghostly fog instead of photographic backdrop worthy snow covers the Bay and surrounding landscape, and the wedding party is a stressful affair. As you’d imagine. All beautifully written and executed.

I enjoyed Ash. This relationship, as new as it is, is understandable. They both realize it is a hard like and lust with amazing potential. They want to see where it goes. I think that’s a great foundation here. The chemistry is sizzling and they are a terrific team.

There’s other smaller elements I appreciated. I’m not sure if everyone will agree with me on this. The ex and how he was handled is one of those. I think he was very well done. Yes, he’s an appalling man. But even those people have a right not to be outed. For me, Calmes made calm thoughtful choices about him. I’m sure others wanted a more dramatic comeuppance.

The ending was a bit abrupt but I’m hopeful that we see more of them in the upcoming wedding.

For me, this was another winner in a series I really enjoy.

A calm, logical, practical Torus Intercession agent and a high-profile actor play at being fake boyfriends in an assignment that goes off the rails practically from the beginning. ‘Get a Fix’ is the sixth installment in Mary Calmes’s ‘Torus Intercession’ series and technically it can be read as a standalone, but in my opinion the entire series is phenomenal and should be experienced.

Frustrated huff of air, and then he said, “If you’re willing, while we’re here, I would like to sleep with you.”
My stomach flipped. It was not every day a fantasy came true.
“I’m sure this sounds insane to you,” he went on, “but it’s harder than you think to find a man who’s gorgeous, charming, funny, confident, and able to hold my attention for more than a few fleeting moments. I bore terribly easily.”
“Is that right?”
“Absolutely.”
“But you’re not bored yet?”
His gaze locked with mine. “No. Not yet.”
“So you want the full fake-boyfriend package for the duration of your stay.”
“Yes, I do,” he replied, his voice cracking a bit.

So, here I am reading along, thinking (especially after the action-packed story that was Jared and Owen) that maybe Mary Calmes was writing me a lovely meet-cute, insta-lust/love that was possibly going to have a little angst involving one of Ash’s wacky family members, when WHAM out of the blue comes the possible threat from a maybe dead witness for the SEC, his missing wife, and the fact that Ash had lunch with this guy three hours before he died in a car accident. I’m sorry. What?

As I’ve come to expect from these stories, and this author, ‘Get a Fix’ is packed with humor, snark, sexy times, honesty, vulnerability, and the guys from Torus kicking a** and taking names. There are wonderful easter eggs to be found and an incredibly lovely happy ever after. The only thing I would have liked to see on-page was Ash actually meeting Cooper’s parents, sisters, and the entire extended family. I figure that might have been worth more than a few laughs! Now, PLEASE, can I have Nash’s story next? I need the rumpled, grumpy man with the squishy center to get his own HEA.

‘Get a Fix’ is a great story that will keep you engaged until the very end. I highly recommend it and all of the books in the series.

Get a Fix is the sixth entry in Mary Calmes very romance-light, suspense light, character development light, instant love series. Torus Intercession is headed by Jared Colter, who hires a wide variety of people as fixers with the philosophy to leave things better than they were. In this one, Cooper Davis is sent off Maine to be the undercover bodyguard and fake boyfriend for Ash Lennox, a rapidly rising actor at a wedding. But before he gets there, he has a few surreal incidents occur. First, while out on a date, his coworkers join them along with four would-be investors, and he soothes down the argument the six newcomers are having (something about a haunted warehouse.) In the lobby of the airport in Maine, he spots his ex boyfriend, a lawyer who was so closeted he was pulling Cooper into the closet too. Their break up wasn't bitter, but it left Cooper feeling hurt. Then he meets a mother struggling with her two children and steps in to help her, quickly becoming her (and her two year old daughter) new best friend. Then when Ash shows up, there's a strong attraction, and they can't hurry fast enough to get to the hotel room to... do what two adult gay men will do.

What follows is a series of odd vignettes involving badly behaving family members, exes, a very bizarre crime that takes way too long to describe and resolve. But three days later (story time) the two men are committed and planning their lives together.

In a quick forward, the author mentions she wrote this in something of a fever dream. Well, it kind of reads like it... and it wasn't really that interesting. The main characters are just perfect, all the women love them, the guys are all hot for them, and there's no real challenge to bring them together. It went down like flat ginger ale.

Two stars.

I forced myself to keep reading, hoping it would get better. I made it about 75 pages in. It starts off with Cooper breaking up an almost-fight between Owen and Benji & 4 guys chasing them on foot across town because O & B stopped them from inheriting a building due to being haunted. Cooper is in the middle of a date with a guy whose name he doesn’t even remember, but invites Owen, Benji and the 4 strangers to sit and eat to hash the whole thing out. And the date didn’t mind because it was all just so fascinating. Seriously? Not even believable.

Then there’s about a whole chapter just about Cooper rescuing some mom and her kids at an airport because they’re all having meltdowns. Then when he finally meets Ash at their hotel, Ash wants to have sex as soon as they get in the room. Never mind that they literally just met & Cooper is supposed to be his undercover bodyguard. It was fine until Cooper kept stopping them to TALK. They’re both halfway nude, but Cooper wants to talk about why Ash is single, what kind of relationship he’s looking for and what happened to the last 2 bodyguards. They make out, Cooper stops them. Cooper literally gives the man a BJ, then stops them from going further to ask more questions. Now??? That was so unbelievably annoying and stupid I just couldn’t do it anymore.

I came to the reviews to see if it was just me, and it’s not. But then to find out that it’s not an HEA, but an HFN, with the same end result that Ash said in bed that he didn’t want? No. I don’t even feel bad about not finishing. I may not even read the next installment after this.

The Torus Intercession books are so fun. There's always a romance, but there's also plot and a touch of Oliva Pope-esque "fixing."

Book 6, GET A FIX, is Cooper's story.

Cooper gets sent to bodyguard-fake boyfriend-plus one-fix Ashford Lennox. Ash is a movie star and needs protection for less than a week, at a wedding.l because his previous bodyguard was a big creep.

When Cooper and Ash meet for the first time sparks FLY. I'm talking instant chemistry. Like country songs could be written about their first hug. It was wild! But also, totally believable because sometimes it just clicks.

I love how we get to know Cooper. The entire story is written from his perspective. He is a smooth talking, brutally honest fixer to his very core. He sees almost immediately that he himself is the perfect fix for Ash, and not just because of their sexual compatibility. The two just click together like missing puzzle pieces.

This book had an almost instant love story *I was so here for it* and the plot was plotting so hard - that's what I love about these books. The side plot is almost always ridiculous in the best way. So the book is exciting, and the HEAs always hit the spot.

GET A FIX was fun and enjoyable as hell. It's available to read now on ku! And so are the first 5 books in the series.

Loved it💜

I really enjoyed the banter in this book. I loved Cooper from the start, he is the epitome of a fixer and always with a big smile.

He wasn’t thrilled with his latest assignment, protecting an actor and playing his plus one over a weekend in a very wet and cold Maine at a wedding, but I was when that actor was none other than Asher, who we met in You Never Know, when he was just getting his big break in Hollywood and confused and hurt over Hagen choosing his ex boyfriend Mitch.

The book has moved on a few years and Ash is a big deal in the film industry and has won Oscars, but I was pleased the author touched on his past with Hagen, the one who got away.

This was insta lust and as soon as they met it was decided that Cooper would be his plus one in the bed as well as at the wedding. We see Ash’s insecurities in this book, his fear of commitment battling with his loneliness and having someone to call his own, but the lovely Cooper wasn’t just a fixer, he was a carer and perfect for Ash.

An enjoyable read with lots of interesting characters and special shout out to Ainsley and her gorgeous family especially the beautiful little Gemma, the airport scene was adorable.

Sweet, low angst fun

It's been a while since I've read a Titus Intercession book. I didn't read the last one because I think it's a little gross to go after someone you had a familiar relationship with as a kid, even if they're an adult. And I can't remember what happened with Locryn's story, but I didn't finish it. From what I remember, this book is totally different.

This is a love at first sight story between a famous actor and a fixer. To be fair, the fixer is pretty dreamy: calm, loves kids, eternally helpful, close with his family - he's the whole package. The actor is a nice guy, too. There's some family drama, and a jealous ex, but nothing that requires bodyguarding or, really, fixing.

It felt like the author suddenly discovered halfway through that there wasn't going to be any action, so she added a little murder mystery. That part had nothing to do with the couple, except a short interrogation and brainstorming session. Then, of course, a person shows up with a gun at the end. It felt tacked on, but without it, this story wouldn't match the rest of the series in genre.

Expect a lot of sweet, romantic moments and some hot sex, with some family drama to distract from the fact that there isn't a lot of characterization for these guys.

Mary Calmes has a handful of characters and just recycles them. Same personality, same conversations, same reactions. She’s such a good technical writer but she lacks imagination when it comes to character, dialogue, plot and storytelling. It’s the same characters, the same situations, just different settings.

Why is there always a woman who just can’t function until the main character (a man) shows up to solve every problem. Because she isn’t capable on her own…cuz she’s just a woman. My god, a female author should know better.

And what the hell does she have against condoms?! Seriously. No one in their right mind sleeps with someone they met hours ago without a condom, especially after they were told they slept around a lot, no matter what their test results say. It’s not romantic, it’s stupid.

This entry into this ridiculously unrealistic series is so far beyond instalove. It’s fated mates…without the fated, or the mates. In context, it makes no senses. Even for a fairytale, which is what Mary Calmes writes, it’s incongruous. It made it impossible to get into the story. Characters behave a certain way their entire life, then suddenly they meet someone, and their personality completely changes? What?!

4.5/5 - I love this series about “fixers” and the long running joke that Jared Colter is running a match making business as they always end up with their clients. This one was no different - we finally get Cooper’s story, with the added bonus of getting Ash Lennox’s story too.
Long term fans of Mary Calmes have probably read You Never Know, but if you are new to her books I’d recommend reading that first as that’s where we first meet Ash. This book definitely works as a stand alone, but I think you’d enjoy it more reading You Never Know first. And those of us that read it in 2017 when it was released are rewarded with some background on Ash and proof of what we always knew - he was a good guy deep down.
I like the dynamics of these books, the team of fixers - we see a few of them again in this one - and both main characters were really likeable. I’m only knocking half a star off as the “big finale” moment in the book was a bit convoluted and not really necessary. But I still love all Mary’s books and I always read them the moment they are released. Hoping we see more of these guys soon.

3.5 stars.

Not my favorite, but still enjoyable. This one requires a lot of suspended belief. I mean, most of Calmes' books do to a degree, but this one was way up there.

Cooper is another one of those characters that everyone loves immediately, and hangs on their every word. He can do and say no wrong. Which is great, but gets kind of boring/old.

Ash is the playboy, non-monogamous guy, who, upon first meeting Cooper, decides he's met the one. So, it's a case of insta-love, but the odd emphasis on them making a long-distance relationship work just didn't jive with the rest of the book. Cooper immediately says he'll stop traveling for work, so why can't he just go with Ash when he has filming? It also ends with no real wrap-up, just the understanding that they'll make it work and live happily ever after.

The plot is also pretty weak and you don't really see much of the case because the story is all told from Cooper's POV, and he's with Ash and not part of the investigation. So, again, not my favorite from Calmes, but still enjoyable and, as always, written well.

A very enjoyable installment of this series. I actually didn't realize this was available and it turns out I like Cooper more than most of the other "fixers" in the series. He was cute (That cover! Wow!) and sweet, sexy, smart... I could go on. And he was hired to be the fake boyfriend for a movie star attending a family wedding. The moment their hands touched, both men were goners so there was not the usual buildup of attraction and am I good enough for him stuff that often happens in this sort of story. They grew close quickly but they had a lot of other outside interference impacting their enjoyment of their meet-cute.

The adventure was topsy-turvy, sometimes confusing, always entertaining, and had a load of previous book characters making an appearance. But the bottom line is I enjoyed it very much. It's Mary Calmes and I love her. So... let's just say I'm looking forward to more new stories from her in the near future. This is a good series and as i said, this was the best, IMO, so the perfect way to end it.

Got about halfway through before I just gave up. This is one of those Insta love books that is full of quips that feel like they’re out of Gilmore girls. Which would be fun but it feels like half the book is dialogue and so after a while you forget the plot and the characters and what’s important, and why things matter. What really sent me over the edge was when the coworkers arrive by breaking into the hotel that they’re staying in to update the bodyguard/fake boyfriend about issues. I honestly couldn’t think of any reason why someone would break in if you’re a part of a security firm when there’s no danger but also, I couldn’t figure out what they were talking about or who they were talking about and why I cared about their problems. So I decided that I wasn’t going to continue with this.

I love all the series!!!

What a wonderful thing to discover that there was another story in the Torus Intercession series! I am hoping that this is not the last either. What I love about book six is the beginning scene at the airport. Only Mary Calmes can pull off that scene. I'm a big fan of her books, especially with complex characters, some action, drama, and families involving children and their pets (though not this story), or some tragic death of a character. There are always something for everyone to read in her stories. It's never a dull moment in her world. Thank you for sharing your stories to your fans and followers to enjoy. I hope that there are more of these to come (soon or in the future). For now it's rereading the old stories again, but it's worth it.

Audio: 5 stars for Gary Furlong, really the only reason I picked this up, and read the whole thing.
Book: 1.5 stars

Yes, this can be read as a standalone. Maybe my opinion would have been different if I read the rest of the series, but I don't think so. The relationship was over 2/3 days, and they were already saying declarations of love and being highly possessive when it wasn't a paranormal romance. That is the only way insta-love works for me haha!

Overall the writing and the way these two characters were acting didn't fit with their ages, which i was assuming was 30's haha I can't remember.

Pretty much stayed for Gary Furlong, but should have really DNF'ed haha

I really wanted to love this as Mary C is one of my favorite (and go-to) authors, but the story was too disjointed and the romance felt waaaayyy too fast and convenient. MC Cooper could (of course) do nothing wrong and was very perfect. MC Ash was also perfect but also incredibly possessive over Coop after only a few hours (or so it seemed).

There's a bit of mystery that intertwines Ashford's step-niece's (or close to that sort of relationship) wedding and we see a range of the Torres mob join the story here and there.

As I mentioned, I just wish the story was tighter and more cohesive, with less 'insta'.

No doubt I'll read this again, perhaps in line with a series reread. Hopefully it will sit better next time :)

Narrated by Gary Furlong - excellent.

this one was kinda boring, tbh

Of the Torus Intercession books, this one is so far my least favorite. Still really good, with most anything Mary Calmes books usually have; lovely descriptive writing, a hot new relationship, interesting side characters. However, there was a lack of action in this one that just made it seem boring. There wasn’t a whole lot going on, just a lot of talking over the mystery. So I probably won’t be rereading this one, which I can’t say for the others. This one just didn’t stack up for me.

I really enjoy this series

Was so happy to see another entry in this series had come out and as usual I was thoroughly entertained by it. I think Cooper is one of my favorites so far. I love his outlook on life. The scene in the airport set the whole stage for me and I was all in at that moment.

I like the way the relationship between Cooper and Ash develops and how vulnerable both men allow themselves to be. I love the whole concept of Torus Intercession, particularly demonstrated in the final scenes re Ash.

Looking forward to the next book.
