Sun Damage is the third and final book in the Sunshine series by Nikki Rae. This book is a paranormal romance but really, it is so much more. It is a story about overcoming insurmountable odds, love, trust, and coming to terms with a past so full of pain and deceit and being the better, stronger person because of it.
Sophie has had such a past. Nothing comes easy for her, nothing ever really goes right, so why should her transition into vampirism be any different. She wakes up from her transition, emotions and senses heightened. But…one problem…her body doesn’t want blood. She tries, but it won’t stay down. Her brother Jade is dealing as best he can with everything. During her absence her band mates accepted a two week tour. This is Sophie’s dream, to play her music, to tour. But the timing is a little rough. Can she trust herself among the humans? She’s still trying to figure out this new life. And then there is Myles. The one she loves, and now her maker. But he has lied about so many things. And he chooses now to reveal some new truths, some new information about her past that he has withheld from her. This is all just too much to deal with. And, she still cannot feed. She is slowly starving.
“When he held me, nothing else mattered. When he bit me, we were one entwined, beating being. How can something so complex be reduced to something so small? So ugly?”
Myles will do whatever it takes to help Sophie through this, even if he has to let her go. The evil Michael is still a threat. So Myles will just stay in the background to protect Sophie, to be there if she needs him. But why can’t she accept the blood? What is it that her body needs?
This final book brings everything to a conclusion but it is not an easy road for any of the characters we have come to know so well in this series. Sophie and Myles have had so much to deal with. This book is full of raw emotion as well as a heart pounding conclusion. I’m still on the fence about the epilogue. I actually lost sleep over it, just can’t decide how I feel about it. So, I’ll leave that up to you to decide for yourselves. If you haven’t started this series yet, now is the time. Thank you so much to Nikki Rae for allowing me to read this book for an honest review.

I’ve decided goodbyes are harder on readers than they will ever be for the authors. I am allowed to say this. Because we have to say goodbye to these characters for potentially ever, we can revisit them in the pages that were written, and join them on the same adventure. The author though, she/he has all the answers, all the time to revisit and join her/his characters on “one last adventure” in dreams or so be it. So let us prepare to say goodbye to Sophie and Myles, an uncommon, intriguing, couple that will leaving you remembering what it is to really love. It’s not pretty, it’s not all rainbows and butterflies and some really good sex, it’s so much more. No allow me to step off my soapbox it’s pretty high up there so give me a minute. \
“The last son of the night is “Colorblind” and we get to it too fast. It’s harder than I thought it would be. Most of the tour I was either distracted by my own problems or just didn’t remember shows we played. Not that I’m here, back in my own world, only thinking about the words, only concentrating on moving my hands against the keys, I don’t ever want to leave again. I make every note count.”
To me this is Nikki’s goodbye and its beautiful.

Nikki Rae has a tantalizing seductive way of writing. Making you so twisted when you step back you have wonder…Am I the monster?
First Warning: This ARC was given to me in exchange for an honest review from the author and that is what I am going to do, be honest. I would also like to point out that it was stated that things were subject to change.
Second Warning: This was a final in a series. If you haven’t read book one and two, please don’t read this review, I promise not to spoil this book, but there are no guarantees to book one and two they are fair game :p

First thoughts: So…wow. I guess that is one way to end a series. There was a lot that we still have yet to have learned in this book, surprises that I am not even going to pretend I knew that they were going to happen. Oh also that thing you call a heart – go ahead and dump that bitch right now, she is will just break a couple hundred times ;) probably by the end it will be mended though ;)
Thoughts on Plot: So both books same thing, Michael. How is he going to ruin our lives again, I mean Myles and Sophie’s lives….anyways….There is a lot of dealing with Sophie and Myles’ issues, and like I said we are going to find out quite a bit in this book. Like what? I can’t really say but we are going to learn why Michael is so scared of the beautiful Sophie. So the pace was pretty good, I was trying to slow my own need to finish because I knew when I finished I would be “finished”. I wasn’t ready for that shit. I did almost cry at work… woman not cool, I rarely cry at home, but making a girl cry at work…not cool, not cool ;) Anyways I guess the best thing I can say is, be prepared to learn lots, be prepared to say goodbye, and be prepared to feel alllll the feeelllllss.
Characters:
Sophie: We leave book two…at *eye twitches* a horrible spot. Sophie is about to go through a huge huge huge huge huge huge change. In this book I think she takes three steps back at first, then near the end she runs about 10 miles ahead. She does in the end grow into herself again, and I think it was beautiful. I really love that Nikki never takes the easy route; I mean it would be easy for her to forgive and forget, the past is the past, until it’s not anymore though. I think that a big part of this though was she was starting to walk, truly on her own.
Never Fear Myles is there here!
Myles: Oh my god. Never have I read in a guy’s POV and felt so comfortable, and just thought: YES. I loved reading as Myles in the few scenes that we get for him. It was always apparent how much he loved Sophie but I don’t know this just really solidifies how awesome he really is. Wow. Such a fantastic character that I just adore.
Jade: Poor Jade :(. He had so much he had to deal with in this book as well. I am though glad he wasn’t the brother that made one appearance then disappeared, he had some of his own growing to do in this book and I think in the end he will get there. <3
The ending:
What’s important is that it goes on.
Update: Nikki e-mail the ARCers and told them there was a slight change in the end...all remains the same for me, my heart broke into a million pieces, and i am not crying right now, and it was a beyond beautiful ending. It was their ending <3
So I want to put down every quote that I highlighted but then I would be giving you more than half the book so that isn’t possible.
Read on my friends, you are going to have a book hangover after this.

I am so excited to be reading the ARC of Sun Damage! I read Sunshine and Sun Poisoned, books one and two in December and was so anticipating book three! I feel all bitter sweet knowing this is the final installment... I am so sad but so happy to have had the chance to read the ARC and be part of the tour!
I am so mixed in my emotions right now and seriously had to take a moment to figure out what I wanted to convey about this book.
I love the dreary angsty vibe to the series, it's not gooey and schmoozey like some vampire novels. (even though I like that too) The emotions run so deep it kept me mesmerized and willingly stuck in place able to take full advantage of Spring break and my hours of reading this book until it was done! I read this in one sitting and nearly dehydrated I was so captivated.
My heart broke for Sophie and really for Jade, he had alot to deal with and it was torture for Myles to see and hear everything, even what he didn't say out loud. Going through the transformation was not sweet nor horrific, it was the most realistic or should I say plausible scenario for a vampire "change", I was reminded of my agony while Milo was changing in My Blood Approves by Amanda Hocking.(Love that series BTW)
I read hurriedly wanting to know what the change would be like in all it's detail and I was not disappointed.
The whole first part of the book I was more worried about Ava than Evan was! LOL! I was also worried about Myles, I mean I know he is a vampire and all but the poison he took from Sophie was now in him and he was so weak. I really got hooked in at Sophie's first POV. Her retelling of Myles saving her was terrifyingly beautiful.
But then after... after it was all laid out Sophie's anguish was thick and palpable. My throat burned from unshed tears and the lump in my throat lingered until I took a moment to let all of Sophie's emotion roll off of me. The tour was really awesome. The whole music element is so close to me and I got lost watching Sophie just like Myles did, it was so easy to drift into the world Nikki created and get lost there, be a part of this story. Granted I wanted to reach into my reader and shake Sophie until things were fixed but I think it played out once again as realistic as possible and I really like that. I actually felt like Jade had an okay grip on things albeit new territory. My focus was always on Sophie and Myles the entire read.
This was a truly great finale to this series and I so recommend these books. If you love vampires and you are tired of the run of the mill story this is possibly the read you have been searching for. An excellent spin on vampire from a new perspective you won't want to miss!

The final book of The Sunshine Series was everything I have come to expect from Nikki Rae. The storytelling was filled with emotion, excitement, and an engagement that ensured you invested everything in the characters and story you were being told.
Sun Damage follows on from where Sun Poisoned left off to in-part quell all the anticipation Rae left us with last time. But do not expect any immediate solutions, one of my favourite things Rae does is give us a realistic environment amongst this paranormal world. Illness and injury needs time to repair and life goes on. The balance and struggle between the normal and paranormal is shown through the tour Sophie and her band go on, and we also see how Sophie is coping with all that has happened to her.
The continuity and the connection this series has to its past books is part of its charm. The life and relationship of Sophie and her friends is established and we only see more of it exposed and develop through the series. A key difference from previous books is that we get to see Myles' point of view in addition to Sophie's, an act which adds a whole other level to the story we're given and have been told.
Because the story is told from both Myles and Sophie's perspective, we do get a further insight into Myles' character, but what you realise as more is revealed throughout the book, is that Myles is keeping secrets from the reader as much as he is withholding from Sophie. We don't gain a lot of additional information by seeing things as Myles sees them, though what we're given is significant.
I have to say, Sophie in this was a joy to read, we've seen how Rae expresses Sophie's confusion and emotion previously, but what Sophie goes through, what she experiences and feels through this book is fantastic and half of the enjoyment from this book I got from getting caught up in Sophie and the actions and events around her.
From page one Rae can change everything in a single sentence that alters what you thought you knew and then when you resettle she will spark a new series of questions a few chapters later with another single line. Your heart jumps as you make assumptions, knowing there is a full chance they may come true based on past experience and books. You cannot help but gasp with excitement and wonder and you find yourself being pulled along by these characters, flying through the pages, dragged along by the interest and investment in their lives and the world around them. It's exhilarating, even when the narrative pace is slow.
Pace is once again wonderful, properly wonderful. The mystery and the continual issues that Sophie faces are wonderful. There is no instant solution, but nor it is drawn out so far that you tire of the problem either. Everything is new, and you see new sides of many characters and watch them become confused and pained as they all try and help. And truly, we all need a Jade in our life, we really do. From the moment the book starts until the end, reading about Jade was one the real joys of this book, and has been through the whole series.
The music is also a key factor in the series, not just as a plot point but as an escape for Sophie. Her piano and music convey and calm her emotions really well and we gain an understanding of the role it plays in her life.
There is so much I could rave about in this book. I got to a point when I was just enjoying the story and engaged so much with the characters and I remembered I was supposed to be reviewing it and I couldn't just keep blindly enjoying it, I had to find some faults, but I couldn't and gave up trying.
I'm not a complete fool, I understand books are not to everyone's tastes and I think if anywhere the ending may be where there is some contention. Personally I loved it, I had a long think about it and I really do. There is a line in there from Sophie that makes you understand why it is ok. Seeing how Rae has created this series, seen where it has come from, seen how Sophie has evolved, this final book is the best ending it could have been given.
I'm sure someone will find negatives, they always do, but I enjoyed this book a lot. Throughout this book, and the whole series to be honest, you get swept up in characters and they pull you along, you get involved in the story and the untold conversations and hidden mysteries you didn't even know were there. Filled with moments of excited gasps and stifled noises of delight and excitement Sun Damage is definitely a fitting end to the series.

I knew when I first started reading this series that it was going to be great! The first book was good and each book has just gotten better.
Sun Damage where to start with this review..... my first thought after finishing was "Is there going to be another book?" I know, I know, this is the last one...but the epilogue... it killed me! I was literally talking to my Kindle in hopes that it would give me some answers. And yes, it kills me to not be able to say why, but man Nikki... you sure know how to put a girl on edge!
But alas, this is the third and final book in The Sunshine Series and I have to say that I'm sad to see it end because I've come to really love the series and the characters within. We see Sophie grow up and experience more pain in a brief span of time than anyone should have to endure over a thousand lifetimes. But she gets to experience things she has wanted and enjoy her music career taking off, along with her friends.
I'm not going to recap the first two books, because you've already read them (because I used my Jedi mind tricks to convince you to do so... yea, ok it doesn't work with my kids either... but I can't help but try). Nothing about Sophie's life has been easy, but perhaps in death things will be easier. But things don't ever seem to work out for her the way she plans. During her transformation she has to make choices that will not only effect her life but all those around her. Boo, Trei, Jade, and Myles will all have to live with the choices that she makes; of course, Boo and Trei don't really know what's going on, but they still try their best to help her any way they can. And Myles.... *swoon*... what can I say about Myles? He's devoted to Sophie in a way that seems unimaginable. Even when Sophie is pushing him away, he loves her with everything he has. Will she push him away forever or will she stop denying the love that they share?
But secrets are trouble....secrets are what got her killed in the first place. Myles has been keeping secrets, but it's time to lay it all on the table. Can Sophie forgive him for holding on to this last secret? Can Jade come to terms with what Sophie has become and accept that she's still his sister? Can Jade ever forgive Myles for this last secret? Will this secret help her defeat Michael or will it be her ultimate downfall? Have no fear though....all those questions get answered. But the epilogue...did I mention that it KILLED me??!!
I'm sad to see this series come to an end, but excited to see what else Nikki has in store for readers. I've seen her work progress into something great and I know that she'll just keep getting better from here!

Despite my not really liking the lead female character from the start, the storyline was enough to capture my attention and patience. Big emphasis on “patience”. On the first part of the series, I got to know Sophie, how she is different, like, she is allergic to the sun and she has secrets and she cuts herself to relieve her pain. She has an aloof character but not when it comes to her close friends and family, who constantly worries about her. With the exception of her mother who acts like a bitch all the time when it comes to Sophie. Then she met Myles, who seem to like Sophie, despite Sophie’s not so friendly treatment towards him. But Myles also has secrets of his own. And to cut the story short, Myles is a vampire and these two became close. But someone is after Sophie and will not stop till she’s dead.
On the second book of the series, Sophie and her band moved to New York with Myles. She is happy playing music and getting to know more on her now boyfriend, Myles. Then Sophie learned Myles lied to her… And once again, her life is in danger.
Sophie is constantly fighting for her life in all the books of this series, as the villain, apparently, CANNOT be killed. Why? It was never really explained. Strange.
This third and final book picked up where it left off and I finally get to read Myles’s POV. It starts off with "to turn or not to turn” Sophie into a vamp, but we all know where the story is heading… with Sophie finally becoming like Myles, a vampire.
The first and second book of this series, I was frustrated that I had so many questions and got no answers. But these holes were finally filled in in this final chapter. It was really good to finally get those answers. It was good but it was disappointing how the story proceeded after that. It didn’t feel like Myles had much of a choice but the story goes on with “let’s put all the blame on Myles” and make him more miserable.
Sophie’s character has gone from so irritating to extremely irritating and irrational. The entire story and all of characters involved in this series movements and actions centred on Sophie. It is all about Sophie. And Sophie’s main concern is also all about her. Ugh! While I feel for Myles, I wish his character has more of an attitude. He is after all a 400 years old vamp. But again, it’s all about Sophie. Enters a lot of eye rolling here.
The highlighted scene was lame. The ending was insanely weird and so very disappointing. I can’t talk about it cause it will be a major spoiler. And what happened to Sophie’s ex Jack? I have no idea. ;)
All in all, this series is a complete and utter FAIL for me.

I received Sun Damage in return for an honest review from the author for the release tour. Sun Damage is the third and final installment in the Sunshine series. Sophie has overcome a lot in the last two books but the time has come when she can’t cheat death again. Now she’s become a vampire but it’s not going to be simple. Myles has told her the truth about her past, her father and his part in her life prior to the meeting show knows about. As if learning the truth isn’t enough she also is still being haunted by Michael.
When the band gets the chance at a tour Sophie doesn’t want to pass it up but being around so many humans as a new vampire won’t be easy. While Sophie has pushed Myles her maker and former boyfriend far away she struggles to cope with becoming a vampire at least she’s not going it alone. Her bother is by her side but even he can’t help her and he’s forced to reach out to Myles for fear of losing his sister. However Sophie isn’t transitioning like a normal vampire. Will they be able to save her before it’s too late?
I like Sophie she has issues, she’s broken but with Myles by her side she’s grown into an amazing character. Granted things are a little rocky in this book for them but love isn’t perfect. I have enjoyed reading her story watching her grow as a character. She has some really great friends which support her throughout the series which I this is great. Then we have Myles his name doesn’t do him justice he’s a vampire but he doesn’t sparkle and he’s not a crazy blood sucker. He’s an honest nice guy who happens to love a very special girl.
I have bittersweet feelings about this book because it is a conclusion and I’m honestly not ready to let go. That being said the author does a brilliant job ending the series it’s a total tear jerker in the end with good tears. The author has taken the popular human and vampire romance but with her own unique twist creating an amazing story that captures the heart as well as the imagination. All of the books have been hard to put down it’s easy to get lost in Sophie and Myles story. The characters are easy to connect with I know they stole my heart. Aside from the romance the series is packed with action, and suspense that take the reader on an emotional rollercoaster. I loved the series it’s one of my favorites that I know I will be reading again in the future. I’m sad to see it end but I think the ending was well done so I'm ok with saying goodbye for now. It’s one of those stories that teens as well as adults will enjoy. I couldn't put it down finished it in one day.
When the band gets the chance at a tour Sophie doesn’t want to pass it up but being around so many humans as a new vampire won’t be easy. While Sophie has pushed Myles her maker and former boyfriend far away she struggles to cope with becoming a vampire at least she’s not going it alone. Her bother is by her side but even he can’t help her and he’s forced to reach out to Myles for fear of losing his sister. However Sophie isn’t transitioning like a normal vampire. Will they be able to save her before it’s too late?
I like Sophie she has issues, she’s broken but with Myles by her side she’s grown into an amazing character. Granted things are a little rocky in this book for them but love isn’t perfect. Ok so I finally have time to review this book and I have to say it was amazing!!!
Sun Damage starts off where sun poisoned left off with Sophie going through the transformation to become a vampire. We see what Sophie goes through and what Myles goes through emotionally and physically. What found interesting during these chapters was the emotionally turmoil that Myles experiences with Sophie transformation. I felt soooo bad for him because he felt so guilty. He knows that she might never forgive him for the choice he had to make by turning her and it was hard to read for me because I felt how much he loved her and how much the idea of her hating him forever tore him up inside.
Another thing that I loved about this last book was the explanation we get for the way Micheal ended up as twisted and evil as he did. Most of the time when we read a book, the bad guy is usually just an asshole. We don't get the back story of how he/she became who they are. It just is. and in this book we get a better understanding a Micheal and his past. And let me just say that if that happened to me I would be evil too. Just sayin!
Now on to our main character Sophie. In Sunshine we meet a damaged girl who is just trying to make it through the day and who loves music. She was tough yet fragile and really had been through some terrible things. From book one to this last book we see her transform from that same girl who was struggling with her demons and cutting herself just to make it, to a strong, self reliant woman who was finally ok with herself. I loved watching her development as character. She felt real. She was a regular girl with some extraordinary problems and I loved watching her overcome them all. Granted she did annoy me with the Myles flip flopping she did throughout this book but I understood where she was coming from.
Now the only problem I had with this book was the ending. It was a perfect ending for this series. How it all wrapped up in the end was satisfying and felt natural. But Come ON!!!!!!! I don't want to say why i feel like this because I don't want to ruin it for anyone else but whyyyyyy???? I just wanted Sophie and Myles together forever!!!! -__-

I would like to thank the group Never too old for N.A and Y.A books and the author Nikki Rae for allowing me to read this book for an honest review.
The book starts off from where we left on the last installment of the series, Sophie, our little messed up sunshine, turns into a vampire by the hand, I mean fangs of Miles....... There was the transformation scene on which Sophie dies and Stevie is there, here comes the tissue box and I was not far reading than chapter 4.... I don't know why but the way that Ms. Rae writes makes my eyes so watery, either I blame her writing style or allergies, my ego chooses the latter.
I struggled with and wanted to straggle Sophie, for an instant I believed she was going back to her old ways, I felt like a déjà vu all over again......... Poor Miles!!!!! Really my heart goes to him every time, and honestly I get it all about the lies or semi truths or just plain silence made Sophie doubt him and/or over exaggerate the situation, come on, Not the paint!!! It was beautiful, I wanted to slap her..... You must read the book to find out the rest!!!!
I was content that some of the mysteries from the past books were answered, (sorry, no spoilers)..... And then that twist with Michael, UNEXPECTED!!!!!!! But here is the paradox Do not judge a book from its cover! Even better "every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future"........
I was shocked (wow, that ending!!! It left me hoping, sighting and wondering!!) on how Ms. Rae executed her writing and mostly how she bended, folded, twisted and scrambled the characters, just the perfect fit for the ending of the series.... Ms. Rae, I can officially admit that the two boxes of tissues were not empty by just allergies..... I am honored to read this series and to witness Ms. Rae's growth as an author.

Sun Damaged where to start with this review..... Man okay after I read it I was like OMG is there going to be another book because that Epilogue KILLED ME I mean it GUTTED ME! Nikki Rae I love you and you are my girl but holy Myles...... that is all I am saying about that because I do not want to ruin for the readers but lord lord lord as I am sitting here typing this review I am thinking man I love me some Myles!
This is the third and final book in this series. I have to say that I am sad to see it go because I love this series and everything that happened. I got to see Sophie grow and experience things she wanted to and enjoy her life and her music.
If you have been following the series you know Sophie has had it rough and she and Myles have gone through enough stuff to last a lifetime. So when she is finally turned into a vampire things should be easy right? Well not quite because what unfolds in this conclusion of the series is amazing I mean just simply amazing and I love Myles more for the way he handles things.
Sophie will have to make choices and decisions that will not only change her life but Myles and her brothers as well. The band is doing great and her brother and her are getting closer by the minute. Myles is her constant in this sea of uncertainty and what Sophie goes through will make her second guess decisions she has made. But through it all she has Myles and her brother and the band by her side.
Will Sophie be able to deal with the changes of becoming a vampire? Will she over come her issue that she is having? Will she and Myles stay together and fight for the love they share? Where is Michael will he hurt her? I have to say that I cried at the end because it was just so much to take in and I am sad to see this series go. Nikki I need more Myles and Sophie.

When I was reading the first page, the first few words, I remembered how much I loved Nikki's writing in Sunshine and Sun Poisened. The first page already got me hooked.
The story itself also kept me reading and reading. Gosh I don't know where to start. There was a lot of emotion, love, fear in this book. I don't know why someone would dislike Sun Damage the story is beautiful, so are the characters, just everything about Sun Damage is beautiful!
I even think this one is my favorite book of the serie!
The story is about Sophie who's turned into a vampire. Myles had kept a few secrets she eventually figured out. In the beginning she didn't know how she could trust him again. Which I understand. But eventually they knew that their love for each other is all they need. But then there's the part that Myles is infected and that Michael is still trying to kill Sophie.
I wish that this serie didn't end, because I love the characters and the story so much! And I can't wait to read more books from Nikki Rae!
I also wanted to say that I loved all the covers from the Sunshine Series!

I loved this series from the beginning. You never know what you're going to get with Sophie and Myles and hat makes everything that much more exciting.
This is the final chapter of their story. Sophie is now a vampire but something's not right. She can't keep blood down and food is just an icky thought to her now. She's growing more and more sick and no one can figure out how to help her.
She's still hiding away from Michael. Going on tour with her two best friends should be awesome right? It's everything they've been wanting right?
While Sophie is trying to figure everything out Myles is on the sidelines looking in.. He's told her a huge secret about her family and now she doesn't want anything to do with him. He's losing so much he can't lose her too.
I was a little sad for Sophie. I mean this whole time she's been in more crap than one girl can take and I'm thinking this becoming a vampire thing and still being hinted by Michael just might break her. She is one heck of a strong girl though and I'm thinking between that and Myles' determination to save her she just might finally find where she belongs..
You won't be disappointed. Hopefully you'll love this book just as much as I did.

Great book! Nikki Rae does it again! this book was awesome! I so love her imagination and the raw way she creates her world. it is so real and gripping that it draws you in and doesn't let you go.
Life wasn't what Sophie was expecting, so why should death be any different?
Secrets plague Sophie existence, they seem to be embedded into her very life. She doesn't know who to trust any more or who to turn to. Secrets are what got her killed and secrets are the foundation of her life, Myles can no longer be the one to keep her from the truth and can no longer be the only defence against the darkness that seeks to destroy her.
The monsters are closing in on all sides and the question is, will Sophie be able to defeat them before it all ends?

A lot of the details of how I feel have already been said in my reviews Sunshine and Sun Damage, but the bottom line is I REALLY RECOMMEND THIS SERIES.
The characters are so lovable and lifelike, the atmosphere is so thorough that it is completely immersive, and the romance and action are well balanced and both shine.
If you're looking for a slump-breaker or just something intense and engaging, check it out! I will definitely be keeping an eye out for Nikki Rae's future releases.

In some ways, this was the weakest book of the trilogy, and in others, the strongest. For me, the story seemed to concentrate too much on what Sophie was seeing. I didn’t think it was always necessary.
In this book, we get to delve deeper into Myles’ secrets and the story is told from two perspectives. I think that works well here.
The suspense in this one seems to kick up a notch and is deftly written. And the epilogue? Well, i’m not sure you’ll see it coming. I sure didn’t!

I had a feeling about it and I was right…Sun Damage was awesome! I liked it a lot more than Sun Poisoned and it was the perfect wrap-up to the series. Overall, I am just so impressed by these books. When Rae approached me to review them, I was hesitant. I’d never even heard of her or the books before and paranormal romance isn’t always a favorite genre of mine, but I decided to at least check the first one out when I saw how highly rated they were on Goodreads. And I have to admit, the synopsis had me intrigued. Well Sunshine did not disappoint and it only made me want more! I’m so glad that I took on these books to review and I’m extremely excited about starting her next series.
What I really liked about Sun Damage was how fast-paced it was, how emotionally involved I was in Sophie’s problems, and how all of the questions I’ve had since the first book were finally answered. Everything fell into place, all in ways that I wasn’t at all expecting. Once again, the characters of this series the things that truly make it great. Each of them is so interesting and complex. I wish that we’d gotten a little bit more of Evan in this book, as he was so important in Sun Poisoned and I was sure that there was more to his story, and I was also disappointed with how little Sophie’s family was in the book, because it seemed like they were still having some pretty big issues that didn’t ever really get resolved. But all of the other characters really shined in Sun Damage, especially Michael, Manny, Myles, and Sophie.
I also thought that the writing in this book was superior to both of the previous ones. There were quite a few lyrical passages that I really enjoyed reading.
My main problem with this book, and the reason why I’m not giving it 5 stars, is that I wasn’t super in love with the ending of the book, specifically the epilogue. The stuff that happens with Sophie at the end of the book itself (before the epilogue) was kind of…weird. It was unexpected and I’m not really sure what the point of it was, but I thought it was sort of interesting and I mostly liked it. Sophie really comes into her own in this book, and I really enjoyed watching her blossom and grow in the end. It was very touching, especially since I felt such a strong connection with her and her story throughout the series.
But I thought that how everything wrapped up with her and Myles in the end was just a little too easy. There’s also a lot of vampire-y stuff that they talk about in the epilogue that just doesn’t seem…right. Like Rae was kind of pulling stuff out of her ass that would never exist in real life, even if vampires really did exist. I guess, in general, I’m just more of a fan of realistic endings instead of ones that fit together just a little too perfectly, especially in this case since much of the series was so dark and emotionally gritty. I don’t know. I have mixed feelings about the ending, since it was at least a little bit bittersweet. But it bothered me enough that I couldn’t rate it a full 5 stars.
Ultimately, though, this series is incredible. I’m so happy that I decided to read it, and it’s definitely going to be one that I recommend a lot, since it seems to be fairly underrated. Rae’s ability to create such realistic and lovable characters is something that is truly unique and special about this series. I won’t ever forget Sophie! She definitely has become one of my favorite YA/New Adult heroines.

Sun Damage which is the third book in the Sun Shine series was a gorgeously written read. Hands down one of the best books, I’ve read so far this year! The beautiful dark & brooding atmosphere played as much a role as the story that filled the pages…
Sun Damage takes place after Sophie had been bitten (by Myles) to save her life in the previous book. Book three walks the reader through her transformation and experiences when becoming a new vampire…plus it details how Sophie and Myles handles the danger which still exist and threatens to pull them apart.
The two main characters had shown their affection and love in the previous two books, having grown realistically from attraction and friendship, to a flowering romance…to a deeper commitment. But here in book three, there relationship has grown to so much more…just an intimate, devotion that at times as a reader, I felt as if I was intruding on the two in certain scenes…,lol not simply the physical intimacy but simply the times when Myles had to care for Sophie, guide her and teach her…the moments when she fed (because his blood was the only she could tolerate physically..)
Nikki Rae pulled out such emotions from me as a reader, that I had not had in awhile. I truly “felt” these characters pain and agony…but their strength in not giving up and their unfailing hope that somehow they would survive together…
Myles…oh my goodness…he truly put my emotions through a wringer…he combined the romantic love with that of a creator…so his loved seemed transcendent when it came to Sophie…he was so weakened, but his only concern was her…the times when it appeared all hope was lost…he simply repeated at various interval…(In speaking of Sophie dying)..that he won’t allow it to happen.
One of my favorite lines when Evan spoke with Sophie in the club and said “Do you feel your maker in your bones and your blood? Do you feel his pain over your own?”
That was what Myles did from the start, no matter the personal cost, his desire was to Sophie, who did realize this eventually.
The ending was bittersweet for me…part victory, part will these kids ever have a chance?
I enjoyed the series greatly, I can truly tell the growth from book one to book three…where the author seemed to truly have grown to know these characters, and expressed her own love for these characters.
The writing flowed, almost poetic. There was action, suspense and passion. It will take the reader through an emotional wringer, be warned:)
I am sad to see the series go, but a very well written series ender!
I recommend to any who enjoys Vampires, Romance and Suspense:)

I enjoyed the series greatly, I can truly tell the growth from book one to book three…where the author seemed to truly have grown to know these characters, and expressed her own love for these characters.
The writing flowed, almost poetic. There was action, suspense and passion. It will take the reader through an emotional wringer, be warned:)
I am sad to see the series go, but a very well written series ender!
I recommend to any who enjoys Vampires, Romance and Suspense:)

Such a great ending to a wonderful series <3 Review to come tomorrow on blog tour stop!
Vampire books used to be my favorite think of Paranormal books. But after a while, I refused to pick one up. My readers know I am always looking for originality and after a while all Vampire books had just lost that spark for me. But last year Nikki Rae contacted me asking me if I wanted review copies of her books. It had been a while since I had attempted anything Vampire related so I decided to give it a try. And I absolutely love it!
Book 2 ended on a huge cliff hanger that had me gasping on a red-eye flight from LA to New York. After events that I won't go into because you have to read the first 2 books in the series, Sophie our main character is finally being turned into a Vampire by her boyfriend Myles. But for reasons unknown to Sophie, her transformation is very different than most turns. Her heart still beats, her lungs still breath in Oxygen and she does not have a desire for blood. When forced to drink blood she body can not tolerate it and immediately expels it out.
If handling her new transformation and the death of her brother's boyfriend was not enough. Her boyfriend Myles reveals some big news to her that tears whatever resemblance of sanity she had left to a thousand pieces. She is stuck between a rock and hard spot, because she does not want him around due to the immense sense of betrayal, but at the same as her maker, she needs him in order to figure out how to survive as a vampire. There are still dangers ahead of them, with Michael a vampire who is hunting for Sophie still wanting her dead. All of this combined to make an excellent conclusion to the series.
This book took me a little longer than usual to finish. Not because the book was not enjoyable and action filled, but because the first three quarters of the book was filled with so much angst and heart ache. Just when you thought Sophie had some control over her life and her emotions, something else happened to maker her plummet even further down. And Nikki Rae is such a descriptive and detailed writer that you as the reader fell down this hole with Sophie. So after a few chapters I needed something light and happy filled with newborn and babies and bunnies to handle it all. But because the story was so interesting and kept me wanting more, I gathered up all all my happy thoughts and dove back in. And I am glad I did, because the ending was just beautiful and everything I could have asked for to conclude this story. Thank you to Nikki Rae for an amazing series!

The third installment of the Sunshine series didn't quite live up to the other two, in my opinion, but I still thought that the series overall was amazing. I highly recommend it!!
The series follows Sophie, a teenage girl with an allergy to the sun and a whole host of psychological issues (I'll get into those more in my actual review). She spends her life avoiding people - everyone except her two best friends and band mates. When she meets Myles, at first she wants nothing to do with him, but she soon finds herself letting him in. She finds that they have a few things in common - but it doesn't take long for her to realize that Myles isn't just a regular guy.
What I loved about this series:
Issues that don't go away.
Just like I mentioned in my reviews of the first two books, Sophie's issues don't magically go away - even in the third book, they are still haunting her in many ways.
Myles and Sophie. Even when things were bad, I loved these two together. I so wanted to see them get past their issues and get their happy ending!
Supporting characters. Stevie plays a huge role in this third book and we got to see Sophie's brother a lot more as well!
Music. Loved seeing Sophie on tour!
Vampires! The action all comes to a head in this final book in the series. And it's good!!
The negatives:
Sophie's misery.
I did have a few issues with this one. Sophie's misery in this third book started to feel a little drawn out and I was kind of waiting for her to get over her problems with Myles. It's not that I didn't understand that she still needed to get past some things, but it just went on a little too long for me.
The ending.
The series ended with an interesting, unexpected twist that was somewhat bittersweet, and I wasn't sure I totally loved it. I understand Rae's reasoning for this ending, but it didn't quite sit perfectly with me. Just my opinion.
If you're a fan of vampire books and you're looking for something new and different with a bit of an edge to it, definitely pick up the Sunshine series! You will not be sorry! Overall, I give this final book 4/5 stars.

Sun Damage was an okay ending to a good series. I really enjoyed the characters and especially Sophie and Miles. It was nice to actually get a perspective from Miles point of view. I definitely valued that, but there were a few plot based items that just felt overdone and unnecessary.
Sophie was damaged in a completely different way in this book, and I really did feel bad for her. I did really like how she struggled with being a vampire, and not because she didn’t want to drink blood. I didn’t like how hard it was for her, and it was hard to read about her physically deteriorating like she did. There were some moments that I felt just caused her unneeded pain, and that was where the largest critique of the book comes in.
I still really related to Sophie, but there were just moments that I felt like didn’t need to be in her story. It just felt like it created unnecessary drama. I knew there was a backstory with her dad, but I just felt like the explanation was just a creation of more drama and less of an explanation. I really wanted to like that aspect and had found in intriguing throughout the previous two books, but it kinda fell short for me in that area.
There was also an explanation of what happened with Jack that just seemed added to create more tension and pain for Sophie. There wasn’t any real point to it in the story, at least not in this book.
I did really enjoy the scenes with Michael and what ended up happening to him in the end. I didn’t think I would enjoy that because I hated Michael so much coming into the book, but that was actually a very refreshing change of pace. The one problem that I had was the solution to the people who were tainted. It just felt wrong to make someone endure that pain over and over in order to cure someone.
It also bothered me how things ended with Miles and Sophie. Neither of them wants us to live without the other, but yet that’s exactly what they are going to do? It just felt weird, and completely opposite of what I was expecting for the two of them. I would give this book 3.5 out of 5 stars, because it was still incredibly well-written even if there were parts that I felt didn’t mesh with the rest of the series.

Myles has always looked out for Sophie. Even as a young child he had watched over her and her family for the father that she never knew. Sophie’s father had left his family to protect them from Michael and had made Myles promise to protect them in his place. When Sophie finds out the last of Myles secrets it is more than she can cope with and separates from him as much as possible. But a new vampire needs her Maker and Sophie needs Myles to help her navigate the new world she is in. Myles does not leave her alone but watches over her following her from a distance to make sure she is safe.
After everything they have been through together the hardest part is just starting. Sophie must feed and she can’t! Will Myles finally be able to keep Michael away from Sophie? Can they find a way to heal the past and have future together?

Sun Damage is the third & final installment of Ms. Rae's Sunshine Series. What an ending!! Totally didn't see ANY of that coming. Was just shocked by how all the secrets came out, how Sophie dealt with them, & pretty much just shocked!!. But in a really good way. What I love most about this Vampire trilogy is that it's original. Unique in it's own way but not outrageously different from what you'd expect from your average vampire reads. Which in my opinion, makes this trilogy freakin' awesome!!
Okay, so Sophie is now undead. Secrets & lies are surrounding her & her family & friends. She's not even seen as a normal vampire with how her new undead body works. If it ain't one thing, it's another. Who can Sophie trust? No one. Not even herself. So, yea it gets really dark there for a while but we see why & how she overcomes those obstacles. Of course, Myles is there to help her when she finally stops fighting those emotions. Ah...Myles. I was so glad we got a few chances to see his side of things because quite frankly, if we hadn't, I'd think he was a selfish asshole. Which he is NOT. He's just always loved her, flaws & all. I will always love Sophie's inner dialogue, even when things got dark. Sophie is something more than just a human turned vampire. Which is what it all comes down to in the end. Myles was never selfish & I believe Sophie finally understood that & doing what she did in the end proves it.
The Sunshine Series is a trilogy not to be missed. You will not be disappointed. Ms. Rae writes so eloquently that the words really become alive in your head & I want & could see this as a movie. There are no musical notes to read but as Sophie feels alive while performing, I did too. You can sense how it would sound. Mind blowing, in fact. That's when you know you're reading something special, amazing even. It may be the end but it's now time for Sophie & Myles to begin their lives together, no matter who's human or who's vampire. As long as they're together.

Ahhh... sigh... another Sophie & Myles epic story. Love, love, love these characters & this story. We were left with a huge cliffhanger at the end of the last novel so I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one! Loved it.
Sophie's life definitely took an even more difficult path... I can hear you saying now, "Wait? How is that possible? Girl couldn't even go in the sun before? How can it get much worse?" Ha. Well, yea. I thought that too. But this story's ending definitely wasn't a cake walk. She ended up having to deal with an even great issue at hand, life changing and all, plus she had to try to find a way to calm her inner battles when it came to Myles. Decisions, decision.
This story, more so than the others, definitely has a more.... half glass empty... type feel too it. Everything just seems so dreary for the longest time because Sophie is constantly raging an inner battle about her life. Plus, she's disconnected from her bandmates/friends. And she's definitely disconnected with Myles. When things begin to finally reconcile, the book took on a much more lighter tone and was soooooo easy to read. I kept flipping pages and eating up the words.
The plot has several different climaxes, one in particular where they were trying to get away from a certain someone...and a certain someone surprised us all and helped by... Well, crap. No spoilers! :) I was definitely surprised by a few character revelations! Completely changed the way I looked at a certain someone.
Overall, I loved this finale for the Sunshine Series. I have to admit, I'm a little on the fence about the epilogue because I'm just not quite sure how I feel about it. I didn't NOT like it. I just simply said, "Hm. Alright. Well, that's that then."
So, great ending to a trilogy & I'll truly miss reading about these characters! I'm sad to see it end but happy that I was able to take the journey with Sophie!! Definitely recommend this series to anyone looking for a vampire novel that's definitely different than the average vamp tale.

WOW! Ok, so still a little shell shocked. That was an amazing ending to an incredible trilogy. I didn't want it to end.
So I really, really don't want this book to contain spoilers, I feel quite strongly about them. The trouble is, everything I want to say is in some way going to give something away and spoil what has to be read for ones self. So this is going to be a really easy yet really hard review to write.
The overall feel to this final part in the Sunshine series, is somewhat darker and intense. It starts with the continuation of an event that happened at the end of book 2. It then goes on to show Sophie and her way of coping and handling this. Whilst all this happens, the band are asked to go on tour. Which is a fantastic opportunity but also so difficult for so many reasons.
I did feel like there was quite an emotional feel to this book, Sophie has never had it easy in any of the books. Yet in this final part when you think she is in a position to come out of everything stronger and better for it, she still has to struggle so hard and has to deal with so many new revelations.
Myles is always a constant that is reassuring. He sticks by Sophie and proves to be even more addicting a character than ever.
I had a lot of love for Jade in this book. He comes through so much and is such a strong character for it. All that he has to deal with as well as anyone.
Again, quite a few surprises and shocks along the way. The way in which it still manages to blow me away each time as I don't see it coming is fantastic. I always try to guess whats coming in books and never guess throughout these ones. They are so clever and well written.
The ending. Well, again wow! Fantastic ending which I'm 100% happy with considering the numerous ways it could of gone. Yet, I do feel like there is something there with potential for more, maybe?? Or am I just hoping? lol

This review and more on So Bookalicious
Sophie and Myles have gone through a lot already during the first two books in this series. And every time they think that everything will be all right their lives get turned upside down again. Sophie is slowly turning in to a vampire after that everything should be okay, she and Myles can finally be together and Jade doesn’t have to lose anyone else in his lives. But everything is far from okay when Sophie wakes up. Somehow she’s different than any vampire Myles has ever known, he tries to help Sophie but she pushes him away. Hurt by all the lies he told her to keep her safe. When Myles finally reveals the truth about everything it’s too much for Sophie to handle. So she does what she does best, she runs away. She goes on tour with her band, while trying to avoid Myles and trying to adjust to her new life.
In this final book everything came to an end, all the unanswered questions from the previous book are made clear. I believe that Sun Damage is the most powerful book in this series, since all the characters are going through a lot. Sophie is adjusting to her new life as a vampire, Myles is trying to let Sophie go for a while so she can heal from his betrayal even though it breaks his heart and Jade is still coping with Stevie’s death and the transition of his sister. This book is full of raw emotions and the ending was just epic I could have never seen it coming that that was going to happen. End then the epilogue, I am not so sure what to think about it. I loved how it ended but at the same time I’m also sad but I can’t explain why that is exactly.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who’s looking for a deep, dark, emotional and refreshing vampire world. I will be sad to let this series go but I’m looking forward to the next work of the author.

Sophie and Myles have gone through a lot already during the first two books in this series. And every time they think that everything will be all right their lives get turned upside down again. Sophie is slowly turning in to a vampire after that everything should be okay, she and Myles can finally be together and Jade doesn’t have to lose anyone else in his lives. But everything is far from okay when Sophie wakes up. Somehow she’s different than any vampire Myles has ever known, he tries to help Sophie but she pushes him away. Hurt by all the lies he told her to keep her safe. When Myles finally reveals the truth about everything it’s too much for Sophie to handle. So she does what she does best, she runs away. She goes on tour with her band, while trying to avoid Myles and trying to adjust to her new life.
In this final book everything came to an end, all the unanswered questions from the previous book are made clear. I believe that Sun Damage is the most powerful book in this series, since all the characters are going through a lot. The book starts off where we left off in book 2, with Sophie going through the transition. But she isn't "normal" and she isn't adapting to the change at all. Lots of internalizing, lots of confusing emotions. Some answers were explained while other things were not explained . Some parts in the middle, like Sophie and the band going on tour, didn't seem to matter, there was no point in having to the tour IMO cause the same events could have happened anywhere. Then Myles answers some of the most interesting questions we have had, things he was keeping from Sophie, which I had never seen coming. Due to that, Sophie has a difficult time trusting Myles for a significant part of the book. I missed Myles, and it felt like Sophie reverted back to a version of herself from book 1. I didn't like that, she was stronger than that, and starting to be happy and it just felt like that big ball of depression was coming on again. I also didn't like how it seemed like Sophie couldn't get past drinking blood, I understand your human mind is putting on limitations, but you're a vampire, drink it. That being said, most of the loose ends were tied up, but I was a bit disappointed in the ending in the sense of Myles' decision, but overall a decent ending to the series.

After reading Book 1 - Sunshine (See my Review of Sunshine) and Book 2 - Sun Poisoned (See my Review of Sun Poisoned) of this series I fell in love with Nikki's writing. She has magic in her words that would compel everyone who will pick her book up and the same happened with me too. I was waiting ages for reading this final installment and now when I've read it, well I'm feeling very sad that this trilogy has come to an end and I'll really miss Sophie a lot!!!
Ah!!! The emotions that the author so genuinely and brilliantly expressed in this book, touched my heart and made me cry too. The hardship that Sophie, Myles and Jade had to go through made my heart ache for them and the suspense really gave me physical pain. God!!! Nikki, it's not fair to give your readers a heart-attack. LOL!!!
The events that unfolded left me in awe and in shock too and I couldn't think about anything else other than being in Sophie's head and being a part of her life and I loved every minute of it. " even when I did bite her it wasn't ,it wasn't hunger that drove me. It wasn't curiosity ,it was love ,I wanted to keep her close to me keep her entwined"
Wow I love this book ! It had me anxious to finally see what would happen with Sophie ,also her relationship with Myles was it going to progress or regress .
And I just loved how everything happen the drama the excitement but most of all I loved the way Sophie and Myles were they made me cry laugh and feel all jittery .
Also loved when Myles would try to make Sophie see that she needed him in his forceful but gentle way had me swooning ....
"But I'm not just your boyfriend anymore am your maker you need me "
" your pain is my pain your joy is my joy "
" my fangs nearly pop out right there but I take a deep breath, and will them away . I want you to bite me "
" I marked you because I wanted to make it clear that no one else was to touch you "

Rae has a way with words that invites you in and wraps you up in the world she has created. This is an enticing, fast paced read and it was easy to get lost in the pages of this wonderful story. I couldn’t put it down for a second. Rae presents her wildly imaginative story in a realistic light, allowing you to fully understand the possibilities behind the story. She also engages you emotionally, creating a web to catch you in. This novel definitely left me in tears at the end. The vivid descriptions in this novel make it so that you feel like you’re watching a movie rather than reading a novel. Each and every aspect pops right into your mind. The descriptions are a poetic interpretation of reality that are impossible to ignore.
We’ve come to know and love the characters in this series in the previous 2 instalments, but readers get to know them even better in this one. Their personalities really shine through, especially in the 2 main characters. The realism infused into these characters, be they human or immortal, really helps to shape the novel as a whole.
My overall thoughts? I devoured this book! It was fantastic. Rae’s personable writing draws you in from the get-go and holds on throughout. I’m sad to see this trilogy end, but oh what an ending. This is a novel (and series) everyone who enjoys the supernatural should read.
