Surviving was just the beginning. Now, the real nightmare begins.Betrayed by the man who was meant to stand beside me, I watched my pack fall in a bloodbath of treachery. My sister and I barely escaped—but in the chaos, we were separated.
Pulled from the river, I was saved—begrudgingly—by Ryker, a ruthless and powerful pack leader with secrets of his own. A man I don’t trust and can’t seem to escape. The pull between us is undeniable, but after everything, I refuse to let another wolf break me.
When we finally rescue my sister, shadows close in—shadows only I can see. Our survival seems impossible—until Ryker makes the ultimate sacrifice, stepping in front of a blade meant for my sister.
Now, the war is escalating. The attacks grow more relentless, and the deeper we dig, the darker the truth becomes—the very man who rejected me isn’t just after Ryker’s pack and mine. He’s hunting wolves and vampires alike.
I’ve spent my life running from Fate. From the bond pulling me toward Ryker. But the more we fight side by side, the more something inside me begins to awaken. Something powerful. Something I don’t understand.
And if I don’t figure out what it is soon, the next time the shadows strike—they won’t just take my life.
They’ll take my soul.
Cursed Magic is a dark and addictive paranormal romance packed with fated mates, enemies-to-lovers tension, lethal secrets, slow burn romance, and a heroine who refuses to surrender. One-click now and step into the shadows.
Reading has always been one of my favorite hobbies, even as a little girl. When I was a toddler, my parents would read stories to me over and over. I would hear them so often that I had the books memorized and could recite the story word by word.
My favorite genres are fantasy, paranormal, and contemporary romance. So of course that's what I'm inclined to write.
I have a husband, two young daughters, and a mini Australian Shepherd. I've lived in Tennessee the majority of my life and love the state.
I'm extremely addicted to caffeine and enjoy drinking coffee and lattes. I am so pleased that you stopped by my page! Please feel free to follow or contact me at the following pages -
The same as the first book. More attacks. No answers. Everyone still doesn’t trust each other. Ember still pisses me off and hardly anything happened between them. Thank god these books are super easy, short reads for me. Not sure I’ll read the last book when it comes out, we shall see.
DNF - I couldn’t handle the constant mistrust and talk of betrayal. Every 2 freaking pages it seems like it’s being mentioned that she was rejected and humiliated still. WE KNOW.
I can’t remember how old the FMC is supposed to be, but honestly she comes across as 16. Maybe her age is why I’m having an issue too I don’t like reading new adult and this must be that because the thought process she has is very immature. Which is why I try to always avoid new adult. My bad on missing that age rating before I started reading the first book and got hooked on the storyline, but I tried I guess.
I get it that this is a shifterverse and rejection is a really big no no and trust is a big deal but my god this group has already proven themselves over and freaking over and she still gets hung up on things she “HEARD” about them. Hello?! Y’all had that big eye opening moment where you realized all people are going to HEAR about you is that you ran and your entire pack is dead but they dont know you were alpha ordered to run and you wanted to stay and fight because THEY WEREN’T THERE AND DO NOT KNOW WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED. I can’t with how absolutely dense, judgmental, and annoying the FMC is. Also she said herself several times walking to her fated mate that something was wrong that she didn’t feel an instant connection blah blah blah yet she refuses to acknowledge possible feelings of MMC because if her fated mate rejected her why would anyone else want her? Do some critical thinking here girly pop you didn’t even like that man and everything you know about fated mates is not like that so….. Why wouldn’t that indicate to you that something weird is happening? Idk whatever I can understand the fated mate situation a bit more, but god is it annoying to constantly have it mentioned when she didn’t even LIKE the man. A better angle would be “something must be wrong with me for being so relieved he rejected me” or something like that to be constantly mentioned. I also hate the constant doubt she has and constantly thinks she is hearing things or making things up when she never has before and then will literally get hit in the face with confirmation and then still doesn’t believe in herself. That’s especially annoying since shes established in book one as being impressive with her instincts more so than nearly anyone else in that original pack. I get she is probably supposed to be insecure and unsure of herself now given the rejection but I just think it isnt being written well since it’s the most random crap she doubts herself over…
Edit - I literally think of this series all the time and wish to read it but I just cant handle having to work through all that crap listed above to scrape through a plot. I read the sisters spin off and loved it.
Just finished another epic ride with Jen L. Grey's latest book in the Rejected Fate Trilogy!
Cursed Magic is just as fast-paced and thrilling as the first. Jen's talent for grabbing my attention from page one and keeping me hooked is unreal—I devoured the whole book in hours!
The chemistry between Ember and Ryker is off the charts! The mystery and magic had me on the edge of my seat, and I couldn't put it down until the very end.
With Ember and Ryker getting closer, tensions rising among the packs and their allies, witches vanishing, and still no clues about the ghostly attackers hunting the packs, this book is a rollercoaster of non-stop action!
If you're into shifters, vampires, high-octane action, and fast-paced reads, you NEED this series in your life.
I don't think I've ever come across one of Jen's books that I didn't devour in a day because they just kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I literally started and finished this in one day. And I'm not even sorry. Here's to book 3!
I thought it was a great little fast-paced book with murder mystery-esque vibes. An easy read coming home from the hospital and needing something to pull me in and get my mind off my sickness.
The twists and tension were all great and I loved that it was an urban romantasy with wolf shifters.
This second book was a very quick read but I enjoyed it as I wanted something easy and fast paced.
About 80% of the way through, I wanted to DNF, but with so little left, I pushed through.
For me, it felt very repetitive—like nothing really happened. There was a lot of back and forth, and it felt very similar to the first book but with less going on.
The crash scene particularly confused me; they mentioned losing a lot of blood and almost dying, but the injuries weren’t really described, so it didn’t make much sense.
I found Ember really whingy and frustrating in this one. I completely understand that she’s going through IT with everything that's happened, but it just became tiresome for me.
I did like book one, but book two felt like a filler—nothing of real importance happened, and it dragged a bit.
The ending, though, was by far the best part. I didn’t see that betrayal coming, and we actually got some answers. The cliffhanger was good—the kind that makes you want to keep reading just a little bit more.
Moving forward, my hopes are that Briar and Gage get together not that we got any hints of this but i feel the vibes coild be there. (I feel like they’d be so well-suited!) and that Ember grows and stops being so whingy by book three.
Will I continue the series? A fat maybe. I wasn’t hopeful at all until I read that final chapter—the last chapter honestly saved the book for me.
It’s a super short read, and I should have finished it in one sitting, but I found myself needing to put it down a few times because both the FMC and MMC annoyed me at points. It ended up taking me three days.
Final rating: 0.5 star — this one just wasn’t for me, but if you loved book one and are invested in the characters, you might still really enjoy seeing where their story goes.
In trying the free Ember’s sister, Briar, from her captors Ryker was wounded and is quickly bleeding out. They need to escape to heal their wounds but with the Shadow beings closing in on them Ember fears none of them will make it out alive. In hopes of saving Ryker and the others she orders them to head for the cars while she stays behind to fight off the Shadows. Suddenly a shrill whistle sounds and the Shadows start to retreat. With some help from Raven’s vampires, they make it back to the vampire’s strong hold, but all are injured.
There has been a balance in the supernatural world with vampires, shifters and witches normally not mixing. With the attacks upon the wolf shifters, and so many lives lost, there is fear it won’t stop with them. With a tentative alliance between the vampires and wolves another ally comes forward. The Shae pack has also been violently attacked losing many of their people. Bruce, their alpha, has come to ask to join them, offering his help. They need a plan to stop these creatures, learn who they are and the reasons behind the attacks.
It all seemed to start with Reid Blackwood’s rejection of Ember. They are certain the Blackwood pack is behind the attacks with the help of a witch using spells. However, in spite of their alliance with Queen Ambrosia and her vampires there are some vampires that make Ember uncomfortable. There appear to be no outright lies or overt actions but a feeling that something isn’t right. And while she wants to trust Ryker, since they have grown closer, he is hiding something too. So much mistrust, uncertainty, feelings that Ember is struggling to deal with when it comes to Ryker. In several instances Ember finds herself in control of magic she wasn’t aware she even had. She sees Ryker’s eyes change, something others don’t seem to see, then a coldness comes over him. Also, she is the only one who can sense/feel and somewhat see a wavering image when the Shadows are close. There is a shimmering in the air, but it isn’t formed clearly enough to recognize any one shape.
Some of the shifters and vampires are happy with their alliance. Staying ahead of the Shadows, stopping them from killing more shifters, discovering for certain who is behind all the killings and why may be the answer to survival. If Ryker’s pack members learn that he is hiding something from them, they could well lose even more who are willing to stand with them in the fight.
Traditionally, witches have kept to themselves, not wanting to get involved with the other supernaturals however, being certain that the Shadows are being cloaked by a spell means they need the help of a witch. There is such a one who owes Queen Ambrosia a favor. When a small group driven by Raven visit with the witch, they find her house in array, and she is no where to be found.
I felt that this tale was built on hidden layers readers will peel away as the story continues but each layer hides patches of secrets, answers that can’t be attached to the right question and emotions that flow and ebb like the tide, with an occasional storm stirring up. Ryker swears that he and Ember are mates, but she can’t read him, he refuses to admit that there is a change that comes over him at times. Raven doesn’t always share information with the others as if she too is hiding something. There are truths, half-truths, lies, secrets, and mysteries while Ember and Ryker run afoul of trust in their feelings for each other.
I felt like I was on a slip/slide with this next part of the story. Things I thought I knew turned to smoke drifting direction or did an about face. Maybe people aren’t who I thought they were. Lies can be hidden within twisted words. But through it all I still wanted to hold on to my conviction that Ryker and Ember were meant for each other even if they struggled to agree on the actions they needed to take, the half-truths they shared and those they could trust. I am eternally grateful to Jen L Gray for giving us a softer cliffhanger this time around since I had to do a quick step to keep up with all the action and deviltry. Things will come about, in the last book in the trilogy, I am sure.
I was given a copy to read for my review.
For myself, I am really enjoying all the action, suspense, the romance that is slowly playing out, the mystery of who and why. And in the end what is to be gained? While the pain and heartache of all those who were lost make this a poignant tale it adds to the gauntlet of emotions that run through it. Loaded with questions to savor, characters to befriend, to love, the need for justice and a final resolution it is not one I want to rush too quickly to an end.
Cursed Magic, the second book in the Rejected Fate Trilogy by Jen L. Grey is an action packed adventure with a twist at the end that blind-sided me. Jen always writes a great story, and this one is no exception. We pick the story up right where the first book left off, right after the rescue of FMC Ember’s sister Briar from a supposedly allied wolf pack. They are fighting off invisible assailants with MMC Ryker and his pack while trying to escape the cabin where Briar was held captive. Out of the 4 Grimstone pack members and the two girls, only Ember can see the shadowy outlines of the attackers, for some unknown reason. After the vampire allies show up and help, they finally make their escape.
From this action packed opening scene, the story follows Ryker and Ember and pals as they try to exact justice for their murdered packs. More packs are being attacked and the wolves’ numbers are being decimated. Can they figure out who is behind the attack before it is too late?
I really liked the action in this book. Every time Ryker and Ember think they can rest, something happens. There is political intrigue with the area wolf packs and the vampires. The witches are disappearing, too. The attackers always seem to be two steps ahead of them. It was fun to watch all this play out.
The slow burn love story between Ryker and Ember develops more, but with this being a middle book, I must wait to see their HEA. I really feel attached to them despite all their character flaws and angst. Both characters still have a lot of unresolved issues and growing to do.
All in all, a great middle book with a big cliffhanger that I didn't see coming. I can’t wait to see how Jen L. Grey wraps up all the intrigue and brings these two complex characters to a HEA in the next book.
I read an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I finished Cursed Magic in a single day — that’s how addictive it was. The slow-burn romance between Ember and Ryker had me completely captivated. Their push and pull was so intense, I found myself yelling at them for not realizing they were fated mates, and then moments later melting over how deeply they cared for each other.
What I loved most is how Ryker and Ember weren’t just dancing around their feelings — they were united by a shared mission: finding Ember’s sister and uncovering who was responsible for the massacre of both their packs and the royal shifters. That common pain and purpose gave their connection so much more depth and urgency. Ryker's unwavering loyalty and protectiveness — especially how he would lose it anytime someone touched Ember or even looked at her the wrong way — had me in my feels the entire time.
Their journey led them to suspect a certain pack, and when they went to help a new allie who was checking on that pack... bam, the plot twist hit. One of their supposed allies turned out to be anything but, and it completely flipped the story on its head. I didn’t see it coming, and it has me so ready for book three.
And let’s not forget the emotional gut punch when Ryker literally took a knife to the back to protect Ember’s sister — the only family she had left. That scene sealed the deal for me. He’s alpha-level obsessed in the best way, and their dynamic is everything I want in a fated mates romance.
If you're into fantasy romance with strong female leads, fiercely loyal alphas, and plots that keep you on edge, this book is a must-read. Bring on book three!

Ember has succeeded in saving her sister, but not without injuries to herself and Ryker and his pack. Though they are alive and with their vampire allies, there is still a lot more they need to know about these shadow attackers. Who are they? And what exactly do they want? It will take everyone working together to figure it out. But their group has their own problems. Like this pull between Ember and Ryker. Ember is bent on ignoring it. Not ready to be vulnerable again and how can she think about what it would mean for them with so much destruction around them? And don’t forget about the secrets Ryker is keeping from her and his pack. There is something going on with him and he refuses to admit it. Still so many questions left unanswered in this story! But we are getting closer and closer to the truth. Ember and Ryker have a long way to go in their relationship as well, but the more they open up the more they realize what they are to one another. And of course, a crazy cliffhanger that makes me need the next book asap! Can’t wait to see how everything plays out.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Get ready for a whirlwind of dark magic, fierce battles, and a romance that burns slow but strong. Cursed Magic (Book 2 of The Rejected Mate Trilogy) will make you feel the weight of every decision, the thrill of every fight, and the ache of forbidden desire. Once you enter this world, there’s no turning back.
With every revelation, dark secrets and betrayals come to light, testing loyalties and pushing the boundaries of trust, morality, and love. Each character is fighting their own battle whether it’s finding the strength to stand against their enemies, discovering their true worth, healing from tragic losses, or confronting the undeniable chemistry that binds them to another. Some will embrace fate, while others will resist it until the very end.
As tensions rise and shadows close in, survival is no longer guaranteed. Every choice carries consequences, and the deeper they dig for the truth, the more perilous their path becomes.
More than a fight for power, Cursed Magic is a battle for identity, love, and the right to forge one’s own fate.
Cursed Magic was a good read. I certainly enjoyed Ryker's personality transplant. His attitude towards Ember is loads better. Plus, he has that possessive, touch-her-and-die thing going on, which I love. Unfortunately, Ember made a few decisions in this one that I disagreed with. At least she fixed her mistakes, so I didn't have to suffer.
The plot was interesting. Ryker and Ember have an alliance with the vampires, and now the witches have come into play. Nothing major, just a hint of their magic, which I enjoyed. There are a lot of different relationship dynamics. At some point, everyone was angry with someone, so there was a nice amount of drama. It was the plot twist that I really enjoyed. Things started to feel a little suspect the closer I got to the end, and I'd be darned if I wasn't proven right. Jen left us with a shocking cliffhanger. I can't wait to see how it all plays out in the final book.
Every time I read one of Jen’s books she never ceases to amaze me!
I need a higher star rating for her books! When I get the email with her new book, everyone in my house knows I’m not going to be available till it’s done!
This one was no different! I couldn’t put it down! It starts off right where the first one leaves off. Talk about taking it up in intensity and tension. Thats not to mention the intensity and tension growing between our main two characters 🔥.
So much will be revealed in this one! I want to tell everyone BUT sorry not sorry! You just have to go read it, it’s that good!! It does end on one crazy hella of a cliffhanger! But believe me it’s one you don’t want to miss!! 🖤🖤
Ms. Grey has a lot of books under her belt, and I love her writing. She’s got characters that are like real people, who happen to be werewolves or vampires. They’re all pretty well fleshed out, and their personalities are well defined.
In book 1, our FMC was rejected and then the night of terror ensued. Her entire pack, except her sister, was decimated. Now, she has found and recovered her sister, but the MMC, Ryker, has been wounded by the shadow creatures.
In the very last chapter, a shadow body is found and the spell is removed. We find out who this person is, and it’s a big surprise. Personally I don’t believe it… something terrible is actually happening. Book 3 will arrive on May 1, and I can’t wait…
My Rating: ❤️❤️❤️.75 General Thoughts: I didn't love the first in this series, but I kept going because I usually really like Jen L. Grey's books and because I figured the story would get better, and in many ways it did. It picks up right where book 1 left off and, of course, ends on a cliffhanger. (Completed series, thank goodness). I'm still not feeling as drawn into this series though as I normally am with her books. I'm not sure what feels off about this trilogy for me, as again, I normally love her books. Both of these have been good but not great. A bit of a rare miss from Jen for me so far, but I'll read book three to see how it ends all the same.
Spice Meter: I'm sure we'll get there.

This book was amazing! But honestly, I love any book by Jen! ❤️ highly recommend any of her shifter books 📚
To see the relationship between Ryker and Ember grow, I knew they were fated mates from book 1 but getting it confirmed. I felt that the witch Cassi did something for them to think it was a fated mate bond between Ember and Reid. When she felt like something was wrong with their bond and she didn't feel safe, that's when I knew something was up.
BUT, the ending!!! To finally know about Ryker spell and to finally see who is behind the attacks 🤯 and for it be RAVEN AND THE VAMPIRES!!! Beyond shock! 😳 I can not wait to see how this series ends!

I was hoping that this book would start where the last one ended since the last one ended on such a cliffhanger, but it didn’t seem to do that. There was definitely a lot of sexual tension in this book between ember and Ryker. This book ended on a little bit of a cliffhanger, but it was definitely not as bad as the first book. Ember and Ryker‘s pack learned some things about Ryker that made it difficult for them to trust him, they all feel that the black woods are the ones that are responsible for the shadows that are killing the packs, but we learn the truth at the end of this book. I definitely can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
I loved this book as much as the first! Fast paced holding my attention from the first page through out the book! I devoured this read! The chemistry between Ember (love that name!) and Ryker, you could feel through the read. I was on the edge of my seat through out this read devouring book one and two! With ember and Ryker getting closer the tensions among the packs and their allies with unknown attackers hunting the packs there’s definitely a roller coaster of emotions. And lovvvveee how it has witches vampires as well! The supernatural world was written amazingly you NEED to try this series out 😍 I can’t wait for the next
Great read, once again, by Jen L. Grey! And really, I haven’t read a single book by her that I don’t love.
Cursed Magic delves into the enemies to lovers aspect of their relationship as well as giving hints into what could be the issue. Could Ryker and Ember’s true fated mate bond have been blocked initially when she was initially thinking Reid was her fated mate? It’s possible. My theory anyway.
The cliffhanger needs a big fat warning label though! I was angry and shocked all at once. I can’t wait to see what the next book brings! 🙌🏻
🐺 Fated Mates 🐺 Paranormal Romance 🐺 Enemies to Lovers 🐺 Touch Her & ☠️
This review is pretty much all spoilers. Proceed at your own risk.
This is book 2 of the Rejected Mate Trilogy and picks up where book 1 left off. The tension continues to burn between Ryker and Ember, but we are finally getting somewhere in book 2. I feel like in book 1 it was all denial on both ends that they feel something for each other. In book 2, they finally admit that the feelings are mutual, but they still haven’t really acted on them.
There is a lot of action in book 2 and some things are becoming clearer, but we have definitely not been given all the answers. I am anxiously awaiting book 3!

2 stars, the mystery of the plot was okay, but the whole mates thing was super forced and didn’t add to the plot. The cliffhanger at the end had me kind of wanting to read more but I’m over the wierd push and shove and back and forth of Ember and Ryker. There isn’t cohesiveness, and then they just randomly gave into the bond. There’s a lot happening but too many questions and no actual answers. There’s so much distrust that it overpowers the relationships that could be good. The bones of the story could be made into something really good, but the meat of it is lean and lacking. So unfortunately I just don’t have the want to finish book 3.
Ryker, Ember, and the rest pull you back in for the second book and you be disappointed but will be left wanting to know more. As they story unfolds some things get revealed and the more answers they try to find the more questions they have. Ember and Ryker fighting their attraction, spells, and a few more twist and turns thrown in there, read for an emotional charged,action-packed, read that wil definitely have you coming back for more and also leave you guessing at the thruth. I so can't wait to read what happens next.
Ok the 3 star rating does NOT mean the book was bad. I liked the book. However, I do feel like book 1 and 2 could have been combined into one book🤷🏾♀️. Now Ryker spilling his heart to Ember-❤️❤️❤️❤️. We still know nothing about why Ember can see the “attackers” but no one else can. Also did she heal Ryker when he was hurt? They just glossed over that 🙄. I felt sorry for Ryker at the end because he pack lost respect for him. Interested to see him repair that relationship. Waiting on the next book.
I read this book on a whim not knowing too much what it was about. This will be a review of the whole series, I read them all in one sitting. Overall I felt like this series should have been one book edited down a bit so it wouldn't be too long. It felt like it was broken into 3 as a money grab and not because the story required it
I didn't love it. I feel the author failed to make me connect with any of the characters. They all felt kind of flat to me overall. I wasn't invested in them. It felt like the author killed off a bunch of people just for the shock value.
Okay, this book is mid, but did I DEVOUR the hell out of it?!? HELL YES!! 🔥🔥 I thought all the people talking about trust issues were being dramatic… BUT THAT ENDING?!?! 😭😭
Like, I KNEW from the moment those two came to pick them up that something was off, but NOOO, I did not expect THAT twist. I’m literally still screaming! 😱🤯
The big one? I’m dead. DEAD. 😩😩 I can’t even process it.
I’m basically hate reading at this point because I am still intrigued by the story and want to find out what happens. But the writing is terrible. The dialogue is bad. I really dislike how the MMC is written. The possessiveness is annoying and ridiculous in scenarios more than anything. The FMC is just mildly better but all of a sudden super subservient? And all of a sudden there are guns? Bleh. At least they’re short and it’s easy to skim.
I gave it 3 stars because all of the arguing between Ryker and Ember got very repetitive and annoying. I am all for some good banter but this was not it. There was a lot of repeat thoughts and pages of talks about how they mistrust each other and so on. It just got too much and ruined the story for me. I like the plot and where it’s all going but the constant complaining and not listening to each other gets very annoying.
I received an ARC for this book. What a great second book in the series. Ember goes through a lot in this book. She gets Briar back. She has to decide what is next for them. She has to learn who to trust. Ryker's secrets are revealed and he has to earn his trusts back with everyone. What a cliffhanger! Can't wait for the ending!
Finally maybe Ryker and Ember are starting to realize there is something more between while still desperately trying to save more people from the dangers lurking around every corner in the shadows, seriously great series!!! So glad I got all 3 so now I’m going to book 3
“ I will prove myself to you, lil’ Rebel, but until then, can I kiss you once to get me by?”
FINALLY!!! Loved the angts and tension and im happy to say this couple made it to second base! The slow burn 🔥 was killing me but it definitely steps up in this one! Plus that little nickname he gave her always gets me in all the feels! Ryker&Ember 🩷
